Resources files in Multi-JAR distribution

Hello.
I'm kind of new to Java and I'm having some serious issues trying to make resource files get packaged into my JAR properly. Actually, this is what I have:
CompositorX - this is my main project; it just contains a small main class with "static void main" method that creates a new form from another class, which belongs to CompositorXLib.
CompositorXLib - this is a class library that contains all the classes I wrote specifically for the CompositorX application.
General - this is a class library that contains lots of general-purpose classes which are used by multiple applications.
(BTW, is this a good way to organize my classes?)
Now, I have a bean in General called PictureFrame. PictureFrame's default constructor has to get an image file to display as the default image for the bean. What I'd like to do is get the default image ("defimg.bmp") packed into General's JAR, so that it is always available to PictureFrame, no matter which application creates the PictureFrame. But it doesn't seem to work that way. In my PictureFrame constructor, I have: PictureFrame.class.getClassLoader().getResource("."). I expect it to return a URL that will get put into my General JAR: therefore, I put the resource inside my General/build/classes/. However, when I run my CompositorX app, and it creates a new PictureFrame object, the URL returned by getClassLoader().getResource() is pointing to CompositorX/build/classes/.
I'm using NetBeans 5.5.1. I could probably figure out how to fix this without NetBeans... but as I'm doing all my dev in NetBeans and I don't want to fight against whatever it's already doing, I was hoping that someone could tell me how to solve this problem in NetBeans.
Thanks a lot. If I wasn't clear enough, just let me know and I'll try to post a better description.

1) I don't know if
these will work with a JAR exe, as I've been doing
some searching and found that people have had
problems playing wav files embedded in a JAR.It will work fine if you do it correctly.
2) The Java Sun guide doesn't provide me with enough
code examples to actually know what I need to do.What don't you know how to do? If you need more help, search for tutorials on google and consult the API.

  • Resource file in a jar

    I have a txt file which I want to display in a JTextArea (about 3 pages of it).
    I'd like to store this in my jar file, which I can do; BUT I have no idea how to locate this file from one of my classes.
    please I'm lost.......

    Simple. Say you have a text file named "info.txt," stored in a jar file in the subdirectory com.my_company.project. You'd get a URL to it by doing the following :
      URL url = this.getClass().loadResource("/com/my_company/project/info.txt");With the URL you could then open a stream and read in the files contents.

  • LWUIT Resource Editor. what do you do after you save the resource file?

    I have read up on LWUIT and the Resource Editor/Theme Creator. I can set the Label Border to empty as I want. Then I save the file.
    But what do I do next._ I need to get the resource file into my JAR, I believe, and then activate the resource settings in my App. I have read the LWUIT doc over and over and tried a few things but I don't get it . Help.

    Thanks,
    Thanks, I was able to get that code in with a few additions as below
    Resources resource = null;
    try {
    resource = Resources.open("/MMC2_Package/MMC2.res");
    } catch (IOException ex) {
    ex.printStackTrace();
    UIManager.getInstance().setThemeProps(resource.getTheme(resource.getThemeResourceNames()[0]));
    There are no errors but it doesn't work yet. I tried to change the background colour of the command keys, as well, but no change. My resource file is called MMC2.res and I put it in the MMC2_Package directory along with the java file and some png images , one of which I am able to put in the label but it has this border that I am trying to get rid of.

  • How to raplace resource files in jar file by other files?

    Can I replace resource files (ex: some jpeg file which is in the jar file) when midlet execute on the phone. Is it possible?
    Usualy, we use getResourceAsStream(filename) to get resource data as stream.
    Is there some API function like 'setResource(filenmae,stream)' ??
    Assume that I have a javaME application which displays some image in the jar file.
    It is different from general image viewr program because it can display only
    image file in the jar file (it means image file is resource file of java applcation).
    In other words, when application executes, It shows always same image at first.
    but I want that user can change image displayed if user wnat to do. I want to embed
    authoring function into application. So user can replace resource file by other image files on the phone.
    How to do that?

    I already told you, you CAN'T replace resources in a jar file.
    [http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5334325]
    Look into using rms to save content on a mobile device.
    Now do you have anything else you want to ask?

  • Must Resource files be located in jar package?

    I use ResourceBoundle.getBoundle() method to get resource. I found that the resource files must be packaged into the application jar file. Can the resources be isolated from jar file?

    From the link you have provided:
    ●        Do not load a JDBC driver to use them directly. Instead, use the mapping lookup API (see: Mapping Lookups), or the JDBC Connector Service in the SAP J2EE Engine.
    ●        Do not use the package java.io to write directly to files, or use it to read directly from files.
    <b>&#9679;        Do not use a class loader in your classes.</b>
    &#9679;        Within a Java mapping program, do not call java.lang.System.exit() or java.lang.System.setProperties().
    &#9679;        Do not create or use any threads.
    &#9679;        Do not use any network sockets.
    I guess it won't be able to do this.
    Probably you could deploy a application and consume its service.

    Henrique.

  • Accessing resource files inside Jar using Fat Jar Eclipse plugin

    Hi,
    I want to develop single JAR file that uses a set of other JAR libraries. I am using Fat Jar Eclipse plugin. It works fine. However, I have problem to access resources files (i.e. rdf file) using relative path from my classes. Is there any idea how can I pack, set classpath and use relative path in order to make it works.
    Thanks
    Zoran

    I have solved this problem. The problem was in a way how I have trying to access it. It should be like:
    URL fileURL = this.getClass().getResource("resource/myFile.rdf");

  • Accessing JARred resource file

    Hi,
    My app uses an XML file. How might I construct the java.io.File so that when I JAR the app, it can be executed from any where on my file system? Currently, I have to hardcode the File absolute path which is very limiting and undesirable.
    e.g: private File configFile = new File("c:\dev\myproj\config\config.xml");
    works, bit I wish to have the resource file bundled in to the JAR, so the path must be relative i.e accessible to the app, no matter where the JAR is executed from. How can I achieve this please?
    thanks
    Paul.

    To find about more about a class, you can always look it up in the API: [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/]
    For example, here is the constructor in question:
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/io/InputStreamReader.html#InputStreamReader(java.io.InputStream,%20java.lang.String)]
    Click on the [charset |http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/nio/charset/Charset.html] link for more information about that string.

  • Unable to read a .gif file from a jar

    I have made an application which requires some .gif images.
    I packed all the classes and .gif's in a jar file.
    I have used no package statement in files, all are in one folder.
    While retrieving the .gif file from the jar I have used..
    Image img1 = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage(ClassLoader.getSystemResource("Lock.gif"));
    ImageIcon i1=new ImageIcon(img1,"No Users");
    but this does not works and throws nullpointer exception.
    I have also tried getClass().getResource() etc.
    But none of the methods are working..
    Plz. help.
    Nimesh

    Is the class that is loading the image contained in a package? If the resource name does not start with a forward slash, it is interpreted as relative to the package of your class(when doing getClass().getResource())

    Although the versions 10.1.3.4 and 10.1.3.3 are close and should be able to use 10.1.3.4 JDev for most 10.1.3.3 development, the human tasks is the one exception. 10.1.3.3 had a few bugs fixed therefore the jar file used in JDev 10.1.3.4 may not be compatible with 10.1.3.3.
    I would either use JDev 10.1.3.3 or upgrade SOA Suite to 10.1.3.4

  • Java.io.IOException: unable to find the type mapping resource file

    Hi,
    I am using weblogic7.0 to deploy my applications. I wrote a web service and
    was able to deploy it sucessfully. I am trying to access the web service through
    a jsp page. I am the error posted below on my server and " error:505 internal
    server error" on the browser. Can any one please help me out with the problem.
    My jsp page just displays the float value i am returing from the session bean
    method.
    Thanks,
    Ramya.

    Make sure that you put the client jar file generated by

  • Unable to Find the Type Mapping Resource File (Two web services)

    Hello,
    I am using BEA weblogic 7.0 to deploy my applications. I have a web service and was able to deploy it sucessfully. I am trying to access this web service from another web service previously succesfully deployed too. When I call the second one, I have the next problem:
    java.io.IOException: unable to find the type mapping resource file for:tuoprec.sinsesion.TuOPRecService
    at weblogic.webservice.core.encoding.DefaultRegistry.<init>(DefaultRegistry.java:62)
    at weblogic.webservice.core.rpc.ServiceImpl.<init>(ServiceImpl.java:72)
    at tuoprec.sinsesion.TuOPRecService_Impl.<init>(TuOPRecService_Impl.java
    I put the client jar file (2nd web service) obtained from the <clientgen> in the class path of the ear file (1st web service), but I have the same error.
    Can anybody help me?,

  • Including a resource file in java

    hello all,
    I am new to java and the question I m asking may be quite basic.
    I have developed an application which is using a .jpg image file.
    In the code I m accessing the image by only specifying the name of the file (LoadFile("image.jpg"));
    instead of specifying the whole path to the location of the image file. The intention
    is to make the app independent of the location of the image.
    Now I have created a jar executable in which I have included the relevant .java and .class files using the
    "Export" functionality in the Eclipse IDE. I then add the image file using the
    jar -uvf example.jar "C:\temp\image.jpg"
    However, when I execute the jar file I get an error that says the image file could not be found.
    When we include a resource file (image.jpg in this case) doesnt it get included inside the jar?
    Thanks in advance for your help
    Tanveer

    In the code I m accessing the image by only specifying the name of the file (LoadFile("image.jpg"));
    However, when I execute the jar file I get an error that says the image file could not be found.Use:
    getClass().getResource("/image.jpg");to get the url of the image in your jar file, and then use the url for anything you want to do.
    Thanks!

  • How to read a Properties Resource File in KM with Web Dynpro Java

    Hello all,
    I would like to store a resource file in KM and have my web dynpro application read that file at runtime.  Is this possible?  Any examples of how to achieve this?
    I hoping to be able to modify this resource file in KM to easily change certain behaviors in my webdynpro application.

    Thanks Naga Raju Meesala.
    How come all these methods are deprecated...getEP5User
    Also, since I am building a weddynpro DC, what is the proper way to include these jar files as Used DCs?
    Now proceed in the same way with the variable PORTAL_HOME and add the following .jar files:
