Restart mobile after start new Ovi Maps in my N8

Hello ALL,
I have just updated my mobile phone (N8) with the last software version (Ovi Maps, Quick search uodate, Apps update).
Since then my mobile phone restarts when the Ovi Maps  application is launched.
What do you suggest?
I thought this new version would improve my N8.
Thanks all

It does improve the phone for most N8's, mine included. There must be a problem with your settings. Nokia Care have has suggested you post c:\ovimapsinstaller.txt for analysis in case of upgrade problems!

  • N8, unable to check-in after updating to ovi map 3...

I cannot use my check-in function as it keeps saying system error after updating the ovi map.
the version is 3.06 11wk10 b01 with map version 0.2.42.122.
    my n8 is in PR 1.1  013.016
    please help Nokia!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Unfortunally I would recommend a factory reset of the device
You cant uninstall Ovi Maps 3.06, and if you get a system error its usually the software that isnt installed properly somehow.
If you dont already got it, download and install Nokia Ovi Suite from www.nokia.com/ovisuite
Start Ovi Suite and follow the guide to connect your phone.
Do a Backup of your phones content via Tools -> Backup (in Ovi Suite)(Be aware that e-mail accounts and programs might not be in the backup)
    Disconnect phone from computer
On the phone press Call, then typ *#7370#
Phone will restart.(This will remove your personal content from Phone memory and Mass memory)
Set time and Date (and timezone) correctly on the phone.
    Connect phone to Ovi Suite.
In Ovi Suite choose Tools -> Restore.
Restore your backup (I would advice you to not restore 'settings')
Try and download latest Ovi Maps via Ovi Store in phone.

  • E55 - NEW OVI MAPS - A LOT OF BUGS!

I have just installed the new OVI MAPS.. but it was better the old version
The usefull internal compass don't work!!!!! why?
Where could I set the AGPS option on/off?
I want back the the ovi maps 3.0 version!

Curious, I have not observed many of the issues you indicate.
    0. Haven't had issues, but haven't really paid attention either.
    1. This works very nicely for me. Switches to known WiFi when available and automatically uses 3G when not.
    2. Have not observed.
    3. Lots of apps are missing or don't work on S^3 - terrible shame.
    4. It's a **bleep** app so don't worry about it. Half-baked junk, IMO.
    5. Yep, it's bad.
    6. No problem for me here. Entered Ovi credentials when phone first started up and haven't had to do it anywhere else or ever again.
    7. Try Windows Media Player for sync. As for other issues, have not observed any of them.
    Have not tried the rest.

  • Why GPS symbols cannot exit after i exit ovi maps ...

i have one something problem for my hp nokia n86,
why gps symbols cannot exit  after i close my ovi map. after i exit ovi  maps the gps symbols still display, please help me for solved this problem , i used firmware 30.009, latest ovi maps v3.04

Okay then, the best solution maybe to remove Ovi Maps from your phone, backup all your contacts, messages etc. (not settings)  to memory card or PC, remove the memory card and then try the resets in the order below, then re-installing Ovi Maps. Please note, if you don't back up your phone's data before resetting, you will lose everything!
Factory settings reset. In standby, dial *#7780# and the phone's security code (the nokia's default security code is 12345). This reset restores phone's original settings.
Soft reset. In standby dial *#7370# and the phone's security code. Soft reset deletes ALL your phone's data!
Hard reset (the three key code/reset). Turn off the phone. Press and hold three keys together, the green/talk key, the * key and the number '3'.Then, turn on the phone and don't let the three keys before you see the nokia hands logo/nokia boot up screen.  Hard reset also deletes ALL data on your phone!
    Good luck!

This feature is certainly present in latest version of OVI Maps from Nokia Beta Labs:http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-for-mobile-v3-06-check-in-update
Whereas previously only contents of folder could be removed, now "collection" can be deleted.

  • New Ovi Maps: version 0.1.24.114 are out (!)

For those interested, I just noticed Nokia have just released new maps version 0.1.24.114
Prior to this they offered version 0.1.23.112
For those waiting on new maps, now is your chance to grab them and see if they offer improvements in what you are looking for.
I happened to notice the new version while loading Map Loader just prior to writing this.
Contrary to what I thought, it seems Map Loader reports the version of maps that are on the server and not the version of maps already on your phone.
    Anyway, enjoy the new maps.
I haven't even downloaded mine but will soon

    Maps confirmed working.
All maps are from Nokia's official Gate5 server(s).
    Main geographic regions listed below.
I'll fill requests for the much smaller individual countries later on.
Just wanted to get this post out here quickly for those eager to grab the new maps (and who have enough storage and bandwidth for the bigger files).

Remember, you can always try to download your new maps with Nokia Map Loader / Maps Updater / Ovi Suite, too. The links above are only for those people that prefer to do it manually and/or can't get Nokia's software to work.
You will need version 3 of the Nokia Ovi Maps application installed on your phone (3.01 or 3.03 or similar).
If you have trouble getting it from Nokia, some of my previous posts have links to the map application.
If you want to start fresh with new maps, deleting the qf file on the (root of) your memory card along with the Cities folder is the recommended way. Running the Nokia Ovi Maps application once on your phone will then re-build the Cities folder and the qf file, ready for your new maps.
You will need to attach your phone to the computer in Mass Storage mode to extract & copy these files across. Most of these are large files (especially Europe and America), so it's only recommended for those that want major geographic regions (or the whole world on their phone). 8GB or more storage is preferred if you want all the countries that Nokia offer on your phone.
    Enjoy Nokia's new maps.

  • New OVI Maps online? It's terrible!

What's the deal with the new version of OVI maps online?
It no longer recognises my favorites collections, and it's a lot slower now!
    grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

    Hi Alracu,
I'm actually having this conversation on 2 threads & have uploaded a .gif on the other one showing the tiling effect.
It now seems that with the latest version of Safari, there is no problem. It loads quickly ( a few seconds) both initially and now after Log on as well. Therefore it can't be a bandwidth issue. Also, the previous version of Maps on the web was fine.
With IE8 & Firefox, the problem occurs on initial loading of the maps page:
    http://maps.ovi.com/
Looking at the Error Console in FF shows no Errors but Many Warnings (pages of them). However none relate to the maps URL, the all relate to the discussion fora & are all of the form:
Warning: The 'charCode' property of a keydown event should not be used. The value is meaningless.
    Source File: /t5/forums/replypage/board-id/navigation/message-id/31944
    Line: 0
From now on I'll just use Safari when I want to look at maps.
    Thanks for the advice.

I guess I'll use DOS since nobody supports CP/M anymore...

  • N900 and Voice Navigation / New OVI Maps

s much as I love my N900 it is so frustrating to walk into a T-Mobile store here in the US and find that the simple Nokia Nuron has much newer version of Ovi Maps. While Nokia is busy launching voice navigation for the N97's and such, the N900 is left waiting in the wings. Does anyone have any news regarding when Nokia will again turn their gaze back to what is supposed to be their flagship device?

Not only does Nokia not support Ovi Map downloads on the N900...it also does not support Native Video calls and sending of photos/Video via MMS...sent a note to their support careline..and the reply below was what I received...:-(( This is NOKIA's FLAGSHIP product with 2  cameras and they do not support Video Calls....why launch a product with 2 cameras which does not do Video calls...Hope someone from NOKIA is reading this tread..don't launch products when it is NOT ready .... extreemely dissappointed...might have to consider other brands of phone for my next phone purchase.

  • Ovi suite wont update to new ovi maps

While trying to update my n8 to the latest version of ovi maps v3.06 11wk10b01 through ovi suite i got an error message: something has gone wrong cannot update....
please help. there are some serious update glitches have been happening to ovi suite lately that need to be fixed asap by nokia

I have been facing the same problem. Even when another new build 3.6.637 has come out, it still gives the same error. I have tried to install from the phone and through the OVI suite and also using the sis file. Here is the link of the Ovi Suite error.

  • New Ovi maps - too small?

I recently sent my phone off to be repaired, they couldn't and I was sent a brand new one in replacement (sorry, it's an N97).
I've just come to install the UK maps on my device and it's only 160mb. Is this right, since last time I installed the UK maps it was well over 1GB.
So what's going on here? Have I installed the full UK maps or has something gone wrong here?
I'm using latest version of maps, ovi suite and map loader.
    Cheers!

    Hi alex79uk
OVI Maps v3 for UK has always been about 150Mb + Voice files and the whole of Europe 2.2GB. Nokia Maps v2 were much more wasteful of space though!

  • Favorites problem after upgrading to ovi maps

I just upgraded my 5800 to ovi maps using the Nokia Maps updater. Everything seems to work except for one significant problem. Although all my old favorites are still there, when I go to the favorites menu, there is no text in the menu items, or the text is the same black color as the packground. I can see little icons, and i can go to my places if i remember that is the 2nd item on the menu and there I can see a number of items equal to my favorites, with little icons and also no text. I have to blindly select and discard till I get the one I was lloking for. Once selected though, they appear on the map just fine. Please help.

    Do you have many pictures?
Have your tried to reinstall the phone software using SUS to check if the problem remains?

  • N97 and the new OVI MAPS

N97 sim free (on Orange), version 2.0 software. Updated to OVI maps, the free ones from this site. Installed ok.
When I open the app, it opens fine, then closes by itself after about 10 seconds!
    Any ideas?
I have deleted and re-installed the software, I deleted the CIties file and QF files.
    I am stumped!

Nokia Map Loader is a programme you can download to your computer, then connect phone to computer with usb, you can then download and install all the maps you need to your phone ( the actual maps not the app, this saves your phone having to download them real time, so navigation is quicker and data usage reduced)
And yes, I dowloaded and used the N97 mini version of maps before the N97 (classic) version was available.

  • Suggestion for new OVI Maps feature: Friend(s)

    Hi!
I have a suggestion to make OVI Maps better.
I have seen in computer games teammates/enemies on maps or  radars.
Hence I came up with a very nice idea:
Let's say I'm in a forest picking berries or fishing or just searching my friend.
Now why not have a feature, so that I can "pair" with my friend, so that both of us will have dots on maps, which will show friend(s) location...
The possible utilization could be by bluetooth or/and by network.
The problem I see is, that with bluetooth the connection usually ends about 8-10 meters, especially in forests. The network on the other hand will make data costs go pretty high. I don't know, if you can use phone as a wifi adapter, but that also has pretty limited range and is hence useless.
Now Iets post some ideas about how to implement connection between two (or more) phones. It will be very nice to hear

  • Hate New Ovi maps

When I bought my Nokia Navigator, the maps were wonderful. I was recently prompted to update maps, and I did. Big mistake.
The old version, I could specify countries and cities. Now it doesn't so it's normal to be directed to places like Iraq.
Also in the old maps; if when wasnt sure of the spelling, you could type the first few letters and the list would populate itself. No more. Now you either have the right spelling or you don't go anywhere. This feature was important as in Countries where they dont use the English Alphapet, the spelling varies. So one usually put the first few letters, and it would give you a hint. No more.
Is there a way to get the old maps?

The url links to Ovi Maps for Facebook showing a map view of your location. Its not exactly a self advertisement.
As for saying "via Ovi by Nokia", its common for most apps. Its pretty common to see Facebook status updates with embedded signatures like "via Tweetdeck for Android/iPad/iPhone", "Friendly via iPad", etc.
