RESTful Webservice "Operation Timed Out."
Version BI4.1 SP4 Patch 4
Clustered Windows Environment
One WACS Service (default settings)
Using C# HTTPWebRequest and HTTPWebResponse for all the steps
Workflow
1. POST Login (using Enterprise)
2. PUT Refresh document no parameters (using docid)
3. GET Refreshed document - This Step Fails (Operation timed out)
4. POST Logoff - This step fails (Operation timed out)
The workflow fails about 90% of the tries. We also noticed that some of the steps take a long time to process. For example refreshing the document in Launchpad takes about 13 seconds, but using REST calls it varies from 30 to 120 seconds
When we do the same steps using a REST Client (in browser) we are able to process all the steps without failures. We did notice the same processing time as mentioned above.
Report in BI Launchpad works without any issues.
Please advise.
Anthony,
I did try your suggestion, but it did not matter when we had the Accept parameter or not.
Strangely, though we just stopped a couple of our servers and the timeout error has not occurred in the last 5 times I have run the same code.. And the responses are pretty quick too.
So, I am guessing that the processing time it is taking for the application to read the content from the repository/memory was not fast enough..
Now have to figure out why the system is slow when those servers were up and running.. . Oddly though we do not see that in the BI Launchpad..
You have been a great help and thank you soooo much for taking the time to look into the problem and all the support you provide to the SCN community..
Anthony you are AWESOME!!

Guru

Hi,
I get the following error when trying to make an HTTP request. Below is the snippet of code I run. I get the error after exactly 60 seconds(default timeout?). I searched through the forums and found many similar errors but nothing that helped me resolve this issue. The problem does not exist in the rest of our environments, only our test environment.
Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Ifs-21030 Database operation timed out
Hi,
We have installed cmsdk 9.0.4.2.2 with oas10g 10.1.2.0.2. The application runs fine, but sometimes we got the following error:
[AJPRequestHandler-ApplicationServerThread-6] ERROR cmsdk.CmsdkUtil - Error with gettting document
oracle.ifs.common.IfsException: IFS-21030: Database operation timed out
java.sql.SQLException: ORA-01013: user requested cancel of current operation.
I have set the IFS.SERVICE.SESSION.DefaultSearchTimeoutPeriod, but it doesn't help. Normally the documents are displayed immediately, but when the error occurs, it can take 30 min or more. Mostly, but not always, the error occurs on monday morning, while getting the first or second document after the weekend in which the application is not used. Sometimes the first documents comes up immediately, and the second gives the error.
Are the parameters, agents, sessions, .. to configure to avoid this problem?
Can anyone help me with this?
Regards,
ElsI forgot to mention that we use a webservice. This is the complete error from the OC4J instance, found in the <oracle home>\opmn\logs dir

UTL_HTTP & ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
Hi ,
I have written the following piece of code to validate if the Web Service is accessible using UTL_HTTP. If I schedule this procedure from Unix (as a cron job) OR try the modified version through Oracle Portal
I get intermittent Timeout errors (Exception - -12535-ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out).
However if I schedule the same package as a dbms_job it always seems to work fine.
Does anyone have any idea as to what/where the problem could be?

Hello
I REALLY NEED SOME GUIDANCE ON THIS ERROR.
Does anyone know why this could be happening. I am getting the error: -2147012894 (80072ee2) the operation timed out. I have this code in an Excel macro. I am sending the URL an XML string and am expecting a response
but I am getting the time out error on the SEND. I have tried using the SetTimeouts method, but I still get the error.
Could it be my machine settings? Does WinHTTPRequest work with Excel VBA? I am just lost at this point. I have researched, and have seen examples of Excel VBA using WinHTTPRequest. I do not know why I am getting
the error.
Your help is very much appreciated. I really need some direction on how to resolve this issue.

Postfix/smtp[8437] Operation timed out can't send mail to 1 address
server 10.4.5 running mail, filesharing and website.
The mail server has been up for months working fawlessly. We have one address (domain) where we can't send mail, and users at that address can't send us mail.
All other mail functions on both ends seem to be functioning fine.
They seem to be running exchange as a mail server, but i don't have other details from their side. DNS/MX records all look like you would expect.
This has me stumped.
i turned debug level loging on and got the following smtp message written to the log when i tried to mail to an address at that domain.
Feb 23 20:45:10 fileserver postfix/smtp[8437]: 775401AFD61: to=<[email protected]>, relay=none, delay=31, status=deferred (connect to anhc-mail.anhc.org[24.237.2.213]: Operation timed out)Yes, good luck to them.
relay=none
doesn't look so good.
Of course, a successful outgoing message should look something more like:
Apr 8 11:41:05 server postfix/smtp[2300]: F1D4D3B8A27: to=<[email protected]>, relay=mail.someobfuscatedserver.com[6x.20x.148.1x6], delay=5, status=sent (250 2.0.0 k38FYfDS023848 Message accepted for delivery)
I take it you can send to any/all other mail addresses (servers) ?
Here's a thought:
Some time ago, I had to edit the helo_checks config of postfix, for a windows mailserver because their AntiVirus was horribly mangling their outgoing mail, helo-ing as <fix-your-dns>.local
Point being that .local anything is not a viable tld for anything in the public realm, and certainly won't work with the rest of the world in terms of DNS.
That might be the work of Norton's break-it-for-you addon for Windows Exchange mailservers, not sure.
Please post the output of:
postconf -n
on your server,
and the mail.log file content when they try to send you an email (confirm via telephone and watch for it). -

ThanksHi,
Nothing to investigate at the application side, there is everything to investigate at the network side.
Check the below points.
- is there any firewall in play
- is there any Network Address Translation into play
- have the correct ports been opened in the firewall
- is Oracle using random return ports (by default Oracle always uses 2 tcp/ip ports, the first one fixed, and configured in tnsnames.ora, the actual communication takes place on a radom port. If that is a problem at your site you need to fix that)
- You need to run netstat -r to identify which ports are actually used.

SQL Azure - Intermittent The wait operation timed out
I have a website engine which runs a few hundred "white label" sites. It's hosted on Azure with a SQL Azure Business database. Generally everything is fine - it all works and runs at a good speed.
However, throughout the day I get maybe 40 or 50 of the error:
System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception: The wait operation timed out
Please don't refer me to the connectivity blog at http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlazure/archive/2010/03/22/9982979.aspx as this seems to refer to problems where you just can't connect. My problem is that it's fine most of the time, but I still get these
intermittently.
This is sometimes on the main database, but we're also using a database for sessions and this gets the errors too. Both databases are on the same server.
I also get errors like:
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host
and:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The service has encountered an error processing your request. Please try again. Error code 40143. A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
and, when evil bots are hammering the site:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Resource ID : 1. The request limit for the database is 180 and has been reached. See 'http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=267637' for assistance.
Each website can potentially have a Google footprint of around 10,000 pages. The result it that bots are hitting the sites regularly, indexing lots of pages for hundreds of sites. I also have some worker roles doing data work. The database is clearly busy!
I am hoping to add 2 or 3 times the number of sites that I currently have to the "engine".
I am looking at efficiency where possible, but the sites are clearly under a fair load from bots and visitors.
My question is, will one of the upgrades from Business to S2, P1, P2 or P3 resolve these problems? The financial cost of these database instances stagger greatly so I wouldn't want to update and find I'm left with the same problems but am paying many times
more each month.
Thank you in advance.Hello,
For Web/Business edition database, the maximum limit of concurrent requests is 180. Beyond this limit, you will receive error.
The Max woker threads for Standard(S2) is 100, you should upgrade your database to Permium tier.
The concurrent requests limit of premium database varies depending on the reservation size of a premium database. For example, for P1, the max worker threads is 200.

TNS:Operation Timed Out error while trying to invoke BPEL Process from sql
Hi,
I am trying to invoke a BPEL Process from PL/sql code. When i try to invoke the process, I am getting the following error message
ORA-29273 HTTP Request Failed
ORA:06512: at SYS.UTH_HTTP at line 1029
ORA:12535: TNS:Operation Timed Out
ORA:06512: at line 18
I have the SOA suite installed on my local machine...and the BPEL process that i am trying to invoke is deployed their.
Any idea what could be wrong..following is the code piece
soap_request:='<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<soap:Envelope xmlns:soap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/">
<soap:Header/>
<soap:Body xmlns:ns1="http://xmlns.oracle.com/Test">

</soap:Body>
</soap:Envelope>';
dbms_output.put_line('soap_request: '||soap_request);
utl_http.set_proxy('3.209.30.25:80', '3.209.32.149:8888');

,'POST'
,'HTTP/1.1');
dbms_output.put_line('after Begin Request' );
utl_http.set_header(http_req, 'Content-Type', 'text/xml') ;
Please adviseyou are right the file adapter doesnt invoke any bpel
process, instead it is polling the file from
directory location?If it is polling for new files, shouldn't it create a new instance of the BPEL process automatically the moment it finds a new file? In other words, should a new file trigger an instance of the BPEL process rather than being started from PL/SQL?
Can this file adapter not be invoked as bpel process
in that case?The file adapter is part of a BPEL process. The BPEL process can be invoked from e.g. PL/SQL.
In this case this file adapeter return to an RECEIVE
activity...I think this receive cannot be invoked as
a BPEL process rite?Can you explain what you mean with this?
Also , will all synchronous request return "TIMEOUT"
error, if tried to invoke from pl/sql?Only if the synchronous process instance takes more time to complete (and thus to return) than the value specified for a time-out to occur. If the instance completes in for example 10 ms and the time-out time is specified as 30 seconds, no time-out will occur.

ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out on other pc
After installing the XE edition on a server, I can connect fine on the server itsself. But when I try to connect from a client machine, I get ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out.
My tnsnames on the client holds this string for the XE db:
MyDB.10gXE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
any ideas???Rather than
MyDB.10gXE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
why not go with the bulk standard tnsnames entry as follows:-
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYSERVER)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
I don't think the qualified MyDB.10gXE name is adding any value and may well confuse things.
Although setting it for my environment does work

ORA-12535 TNS:operation timed out from SQLPlus and Enterprise Manager Conso
I keep getting a ORA-12535 TNS:operation timed out error, when I try to start my Database.
I know its a timeout error, but I would like to know what is timing out and why. All I want is the database its self to run to allow me to connect to it via SQLPlus and JDBC.
Is there any information on what the following services do and which ones I need to have running to use the database.
Oracle OLAP 9.0.101
Oracle OLAP Agent
Oracle oraHome90Agent
Oracle oraHome90ClientCache
Oracle OraHome90PagingServer
OracleOra90SNMPPeerEncapsulator
OracleOra90SNMPPeerMasterAgent
OracleOra90STNSListener
Thanks for any help TonyEither reconfigure CONNECT_TIMEOUT to be 0, which means wait indefinitely, or reconfigure CONNECT_TIMEOUT to be some higher value. Or, if the timeout is unacceptably long, turn on tracing for further information.
If you have oracle metalink, then read the following note;

ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out on a win2000 Oracle instance
Hi,
i have a Oracle 8.1.5 instance on a WIN2000 PC.
I can connect me to this database with sqlplus
as long i stay on the PC (means i started the sqlplus
on the same machine).
When i try to connect from an other (unix-)system
i get after a while (ca. 90 sec.) the error:
ORA-12535: TNS:operation timed out
tnsping works fine (answer comes back in one second)
There are no firewalls or other "strange" things between
the database and the failing client (on an other PC,
also win2000, Oracle 8.1.5 everything works fine).
Below you see the log with debug of the listener.
I have also a trace on level SUPPORT but this is more
than 1000 lines for just 1 or 2 TNSPINGs and one SQLPLUS
connect. Due to this volume i decided not to attach it to
this initial mail.
Does any one have some advice or experiences ?
Please advice.
Best regards,

Thx.Yes, the XP firewall is running. During the Oracle instalation it poped up twice, but I selected 'Unblock'. I can't turn it off because it is running using the domain settings, but I can add exceptions (programs or ports). Port 1521, tnsping or sqlplus are not blocked and there is an option 'Display a notification when Windows Firewall blocks a program' witch is checked.
