Restore datafile from an OS copy

Hi all,
I have a 10GR1 database open with datafiles marked as MISSING in the dictionnary.
I have an OS copy oh those datafiles. These datafiles are contained in a Read Only tablespace.
Could you explain me how can i recover this datafile to the database ?
Thanks.

Nope....the db does not need to be in mount mode.
Presumably the missing files have been created in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs?
If you have multiple missing files then the alert log will point out to you which missing file relates to which tablespace and datafile#.
Obtain your offline datafile names:
select FILE#, name, status from v$datafile where status != 'ONLINE';Take tablespace offline first.
alter tablespace tbname offline;Rename the datafile.
alter database rename file 'abc' to 'xyz';Bring tablespace online.
alter tablespace tbname online;Ensure all datafiles are online:
select FILE#, name, status from v$datafile;Put the tablespace back into readonly mode:
alter tablespace tbname read only;Check status of tablespace:
select TABLESPACE_NAME, STATUS from dba_tablespaces;Refer to: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14231/dfiles.htm#i1006457

  • Need immediately script for Restore Datafiles from TAPE  Please.

    Hi All,
    Could you please provide me the script to restore 10 datafiles using RMAN which are stored on tape.

    Hi!
    1. Restore the whole database:
    run {
    allocate channel t1 type "sbt_tape" parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/path/to/your/client/tdpo_file)';
    restore database;
    release channel t1;
    2. Restore a tablespace: (In the Example the USERS tablespace will be restored)
    run {
    allocate channel t1 type "sbt_tape" parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/path/to/your/client/tdpo_file)';
    restore tablespace users;
    release channel t1;
    3. Restore a datafile: (In the example teh datafile number 5 will be restored)
    run {
    allocate channel t1 type "sbt_tape" parms 'ENV=(TDPO_OPTFILE=/path/to/your/client/tdpo_file)';
    restore datafile 5;
    release channel t1;
    In the above examples:
    - you need to change the location of your TDPO config file.
    - the database/tablespace/datafile will be only restored and not will be recovered
    Best Regards

    hi.
    Its not necessary its a otherway around to recover datafile from this backupset and apply archivelogs to make datafile consistent.
    yes, it ain't the right way to restore backup to primary location.
    so how would i connect to standby database with primary and recovery catalog.
    i need to connect to recovery catalog and primary site because i need to restore to primary location and recovery catalog contain all metadata and backupsets related information.
    i also tried the following steps from oracle documentation.
    Connect to the standby database as the target database:
    CONNECT TARGET sys@standby
    You are prompted for a password:
    target database Password: password
    Connect to the primary database as the auxiliary database:
    CONNECT AUXILIARY sys@primary
    You are prompted for a password:
    target database Password: password
    Back up the datafile on the standby host across the network to a location on the primary host. For example, suppose that /disk1/df2.dbf is the name of datafile 2 on the standby host. Suppose that /disk8/datafile2.dbf is the name of datafile 2 on the primary host. The following command would copy datafile 2 over the network to /disk9/df2copy.dbf:
    BACKUP AS COPY DATAFILE 2 AUXILIARY FORMAT '/disk9/df2copy.dbf';

  • Question on Restore,Recovery from Image Copy in RAC

    version: 11.2.0.3
    Platform : AIX 6
    Found the following in
    http://www.oracleracexpert.com/2011_12_01_archive.html
    SYS@DBTEST>startup mount
    SYS@DBTEST>switch database to copy;
    SYS@DBTEST>Recovery the database;
    SYS@DBTEST>Alter database open;The author of the blog says
    "Please note that we didn’t restore backup from backup disk or media, we have pointed the database to backup. "
    So, how will this work for restores in RAC ? Because, after the 'switching' to a datafile which is now disk based only one of the instance will be able to acess that datafile. Right ?
    Even if we be cross-mount the backup location to both nodes , the datafile will still not be in the ASM diskgroup where it was originally stored ?

    The blog is "oracleracexpert" but the notes on Incrementally Updated backups at http://www.oracleracexpert.com/2011/12/rman-incrementally-updated-backups.html are NOT necessarily for RAC.
    The backup is done to '/oradata/rman/backup.%u' which may not be a filesystem accesible by all the notes.
    If you really want to implement Incrementally Updated Backups with the ability to SWITCH DATABASE TO COPY for a RAC environment, your backup destination must
    (a) asupported Cluster FileSystem (*not* Oracle ACFS which is not to be used for Database Files)
    OR
    (b) an ASM DiskGroup accessible by all the nodes.

  • Restore Data from Datafiles

    Hi Experts,
    I am facing a problem with TTS(Transportable Tablespace).
    I have a backup of tablespace TBS_DATA as TTS. Now i need to restore that tablespace.
    Whenever I tried to restore using IMP command below error occured:
    IMP-00003: ORACLE error 19721 encountered
    ORA-19721: Cannot find datafile with absolute file number 123 in tablespace TBS_DATA
    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_PLUGTS", line 1730
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    The TTS backup was not taken by me and i think that the dump file version and the version of backed up datafiles were not same (as I am sure that no datafile is missing in my par file and I simulated a test in which i took a TTS exp then made some change in the tablespace then tried to restore that tablespace got the same error as above).
    Now under this scenario my question is,
    "Is there any way to restore data from those datafiles ?(i know all the table names and structures)"

    obaidWhen you talk about transportable tablespace and "backup" and importing -- I'm not sure exactly what you are doing and what you have to work with.
    Let's start by you showing the actual command you used that produced the output you gave us.
    And it certainly wouldn't hurt if you let us in on the secret of what OS and what version of Oracle you are using.

    Hi,
    I would like to know few things
    1. How are you setting the db_name ? you can set db_id at RMAN, how are you setting the db_name ?
    2. Do you have any default init file at default location ? if yes, is the db_name parameter set correctly in that file ?
    Since spfile is yet to be restored, you must set the db_name parameter correctly before you start spfile restore.This can be done with init file at default location which can even contain just one paremeter i.e db_name.

    one more thing u can also rename ur database by using nid utility ,So u have no need to recreate the controlfile for changing the name of ur database.just restore all files from primary to new server ,create new service by oradim ,start the instance and then use NID utility.
