Restore Leopard Menu bar

Hello. I'm currently on my 1.07ghz iBook G4. As some of you may be aware of, the menu bar in Leopard can only be changed to look translucent if you have a graphics card that supports Core Image. Mine doesn't, so I was looking for ways to make mine look translucent. I ended up editing some things in Terminal (stupid, I know) and now the menu bar just looks different, darker than before. I want to restore it to the default, and I can't figure out how to do it. If someone could help I would appreciate it. Thank you.

I've tried but I can't get it to revert back to normal. Is there a terminal command that would take it back to the defaul?

Any time you install a hack like this, you run a risk that it may not be reversible. I suspect that this hack probably modified some part of the system and did not properly restore it when it "removed" itself. Try contacting the developer... but you'll need to be prepared if he/she is unresponsive.
If you have a backup of your system from before you installed that hack, you should restore to that backup. Otherwise, you could try reinstalling the system on top of your existing system. This will restore any modified or removed files.
By the way, note that running as root on a normal basis is an astoundingly bad idea. In fact, enabling the root user at all isn't a very good idea. This doesn't help you now, but you should not do this in the future.

  • Restore toolbar / menu bar / gear icon Safari Windows

    Hi
Some combination of keys got pressed and now I have no toolbar, menu bar or gear icon on Safari. Ctrl-shift-\ doesn't do anything either. Every post I've seen mentions clicking on buttons I don't have. The only bar I have is my bookmarks bar, and no way to select anything else. Right click doesn't do anything and I can't find a way to re-select my options.
I've uninstalled Safari, logged out, logged in and reinstalled but no change. I can't delete cookies because...I don't have the buttons to click on.
Assistance appreciated, this is driving me nuts!

You can do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 28: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
    *(32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
    *(64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.
If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

  • Restoring contextual menu bar?

By accident I managed to turn off the Tools contextual menu bar in Illustrator 10. I must have mistyped something... Luckily I found an image to illustrate what I'm after.
More specifically, when I click on a tool I don't have any options along the top of my menu. What used to be only a click away, it is now gone.
    Any help is much appreciated.

I guess I'm out of luck then...
...I can see no such option.
    Thanks all for helping!

  • Firefox4Life78: I lost my menu bar with bookmarks, tabs, etc. How do I get them back

I was downloading a utility from "Ask". After getting the utility loaded Ask installed itself in the menu area. I right clicked the first two lines, which were Firefox menu and tools. They disappeared, so I also got rid of Ask but now I cannot get my menu bar or tool bar back. I tried reinstalling Firefox but that did not help. I also tried add-ons but that did not work either.

'''Menu Bar''' (File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help)
Press ALT+ V T M (CTRL+V T M on Macs) on your keyboard. This should restore the menu bar (Firefox 3.6)
    '''Other toolbars'''
    View|Toolbars|Select the desired Toolbar
    '''Other steps to try'''
Try restoring the default set by going to View|Toolbars|Customize| Restore Default Set. This will put the toolbars back in the default place
    '''Safe Mode'''
You May need to reset toolbars and controls via [[Safe Mode]]
Make sure you completely close Firefox first. When you get to the Safe Mode window, select Reset toolbars and controls and then Make Changes and Restart.
    Hope this helps!

  • Cannot display date in menu bar

For some reason, my computer (in OS 10.3.9) will only display the date & time in the floating window (by checking the box to display date & time and selecting the button to display in window thru system preferences), but won't display the date & time in the menu bar (even though it should since the menu bar button is selected in the system preferences).
This seems to be a bug in OS 10.3.9 that has not been fixed yet. Has anyone had this problem and been able to fix it?
    Thanks

Hi ndl! And Welcome To Discussions!
From March 2006 MacAddict magazine p.56
    Open Terminal
At the prompt, type or copy & paste
    defaults write -g AppleICUTimeFormatStrings -dict-add 2 "MMMM d, y hh':'mm':ss' 'a"
    Press Return
    Then type killall SystemUIServer
Press Return again, and your menu bar will disappear.
Click anywhere on your Desktop to reload it.
This setting only affects your User Account; other users on the Mac will not see the change.
To restore your menu bar to normal, repeat the process, omitting the MMMM d, y part in the first Terminal command, like so:
    defaults write -g AppleICUTimeFormatStrings -dict-add 2 "hh':'mm':ss' 'a"
    For Tiger 10.4.x
Easily add the date to the menubar Mac OS X Hints
    For Panther 10.3.x
Add the date to the menubar clock Mac OS X Hints
    Also,
Tip: Date and Time in the Menu Bar
    Good Luck!

  • Anyone else experiencing the menu bar, occasionally absent on startup with 15" MacBook Pro Retina early 2013

Has Anyone experienced the menu bar on a MacBook Pro 15" Retina ocasionally not appearing on startup?

I've had this happen, the difference being that in my case opening an application restores the menu bar. Not getting it back at all sounds like Finder isn't launching...but then how could you launch an application? Does the Dock appear when this happens?
One thing I can think of to try is starting in Safe Mode (restart and hold the shift key until the Apple logo appears). This deletes various caches etc. Once the computer has started, restart as normal.

  • I've lost my menu bar and command bar. How do I get them back?

Now that they're gone, right clicking does not bring up an option to re-enable them.
By "command bar" I mean the edit box where you enter a new website. Maybe it's called the address bar.

For details of how to restore the menu bar see [[menu bar is missing]].

I simply have no menu bar, navigation toolbar and address bar. I've tried all the usual procedures but I can't get those back.

Once the menu bar is back, use the Toolbars entry on the View menu to display other toolbars.

  • My menu bar hides and alt does not bring it back I am ready to delete foxfire please help

I have tried everything to restore my menu bar. I have read your notes about alt and starting in safe mode. The alt does not bring the menu temporarily up and the safe mode option is not available to me. When I was looking for foxfire support, I saw other browers out there that offer video and sound recording. This is a cool feature the browser I saw was called cometbird I think something like that. Anyway I saved it in my favorites but of course I can't find my favorites.

You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the '''Shft''' key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. Or use the Help menu item, click on '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' while Firefox is running. <br />
''To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.''

my status menu and spolight icon and other icons have disappeared from the menu bar. When I use system preferences and check them to appear the check is removed. I am in an admin user. Help to restore my menu bar?

Could be corrupt plist try deleting com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    found here:
    usenamer/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    after you delete the plist
open terminal and paste the command:
    killall SystemUIServer
and return. This command will kill the process and MacOS X will automatically rebuild the menu bar. Hopefully problem solved clearing out old cache.

  • I can no longer get my address bar, back or foward buttons, tool bar, menu bar or anything else. How can I restore?

When I open Firefox I do not get an address bar only Google comes up. I don't get a back or forward button nor do I get the tool bar or menu bar. There is no default button. I read the forum but I can not make any corrections because I don't have a tool bar displayed. I am using 3.6. When I turn off my computer and then turn it back on, the default settings still do not return.

It is a long while since I tried Google Toolbar, I am not sure what it changes. But I would not expect it to totally remove your options to use the ordinary toolbars.
    ■ Try
    * press the''' alt '''key on the keyboard, that may return the menu bar
    * once you have the menubar '''View -> Toolbars ->''' and select which you need
    * you may also use View-> Toolbars -> Customise and drag items back or use the restore default set option.
    * right clicking on the toolbars also gets you to the customise and show toolbars options
    ■ have a look at [[Back and forward or other toolbar items are missing]]
    PS
I hope you do not need to resort to editing registry settings, the firefox 'dragons' in prefs are user friendly compared with Windows registry. Messing up firefox prefs only really affects firefox normally; whereas errors in a registry edit may prevent you from even booting the computer.
