Restore of single file failes: "datafile ... is already restored to file"

Hi All,
I'am doing some restore tests with RMAN and want to restore a single file to a new directory.
First execution of the restore script ( run { restore datafile 14 to '....'; }) was successful, but in case I deleted the restored file and restart the script, RMAN complains with :
"datafile 14 is already restored to file ....".
Does this mean, that RMAN keeps track of and refers to previous restore actions??
I find this behaviour of RMAN quite strange because I would like RMAN just to use for coping some files (it should not make assumptions what the DBA might want to do or what he or someone else has done before...).
Is there any option to "force" RMAN to restore files, regardless what happened before?
Thanks you,
Heiko

What O/S are you on and is the database still open when you delete the file?
There is a FORCE option with RESTORE.

  • SFTP MGET of large files fails - connection closed - problem with spool file

    I have a new SFTP job to get files from an FTP Server.  The files are large (80mg, 150mg).  I can get smaller files from the ftp site with no issue, but when attempting the larger files the job completes abnormally after 2 min 1 sec. each time.  I can see the file is created on our local file system with 0 bytes, then when the FTP job fails, the 0 byte file is deleted.
    Is there a limit to how large an ftp file can be in Tidal?  How long an ftp job can run?
    The error in the job audit is Problem with spool file for job XXXX_SFTPGet and an exit code of 127 (whatever that is).
    In the log, the error is that the connection was closed.  I have checked with the ftp host and their logs show that we are disconnecting unexpectedly also.

    I believe there is a limitation on FTP and what you are seeing is a timeout built into the 3rd party application that tidal uses (I feel like it was hardcoded and it would be a big deal to change but this was before Cisco purchased tidal)  there may have been a tagent.ini setting that tweaks that but I can't find any details.
    We wound up purchasing our own FTP software (ipswitch MOVEit Central & DMZ) because we also had the need to host as well as Get/Put to other FTP sites. It now does all our FTP and internal file delivery activity (we use it's api and call from tidal if we need to trigger inside a workflow)

  • When I turn on my new iPhone 5s, I have to select a language and county and then my only options are to restore backup from iTunes or restore from iCloud.  I have already restored form iTunes, so what am I doing wrong?

    When I try to turn on my new iPhone 5s, the ONLY options it gives me is to either backup from the iCloud or restore backup from iTunes.  I have already restored the backup from iTunes, so I don't know why it keeps telling me to restore the backup.  And why won't it give me any other options?  I can't text, call, etc.  My phone will do NOTHING.
    Any suggestions?

    It seems you restored from a blank back up if it is still asking you to choose one of those options. Set it up as new then manually restore from back up with iTunes on your computer and be sure to check the date of the back up an which phone the back up is from.

  • Spotlight/Finder can't find a file, yet when I search the timecapsule for they find it. If I try to restore the file I get "file with that name already exists...." What is wrong?

    I was trying to find a file (iTunes Backup). When using finder/Spotlight they couldn't find the file.
    I then opened up my timecapsule and searched for the file....tick-a-de-da it found it in yesterdays backup. I attempted to restore the file and got the prompt "A file with that name already exists in this location, would you like to keep both, replace the file or cancel the request.
    So if the file is there why can't spotlight/finder find the file??
    If it helps I get this from the terminal when checking if indexing was enabled.

    Hi Danielle,
    Is there any possibilty that some of your files (a VI or DLL?) have been moved, renamed, or deleted? Also, what version of LabVIEW are you using and are you using any .NET DLLs? Another option to consider would involve VISA or DAQmx property nodes. Are you using any of these property nodes in your code? Here is a KnowledgeBase article to describe more about the VISA and DAQmx property nodes in a source distribution:
    Error Creating Source Distributions Involving rc Files: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/833BFD5E9CA0224886257584004DAA4C?OpenDocument
    I hope this is able to help.

  • Cannot open dashboard from connected client to restore a single file

    I have a small business network with an existing Server 2008 R2 domain controller.  In order to backup all the client machines with an experience something like windows home server I recently purchased a new server with windows server 2012 r2 and
    installed the essentials role.
    I'm able to connect client machines (running windows 7) to the new server and get them to backup.  I assume (but have not yet tested) that I would be able to do a full image restore by creating a client restore bootable usb key and booting a client from
    that, but first I'd like to be able to browse the files in a client backup and restore a single file rather than the full image.  It seems that the only way to do that is to run the dashboard as a remoteapp from the client, but when I try that I get this
    error:
    I thought that I might need to add the remote desktop services role.  So I tried doing that and publishing the dashboard as a remoteapp, but the error still appears.  Even if that fixed the problem, though, I would be concerned that would mean we
    needed RDS CALs for each client which seems like overkill just for the ability to restore a single file from a backup.
    So, is there any other way to get to the dashboard or otherwise restore files onto a client?
    Thanks.

  • Import Map file failes with single/Multiple Occurance

    Hi All,
    Using a file I mapped the source and target structures.. The source file has one multiple occurance node . so I used look up option in source table and mapped with target fields...saved the map..
    When I used the following XML file .. I used the same map created befoe... I see the Remote System fields are not failed to map to target structure.. How can I get rid of this issue....
    <Product>
    --<Name>Rajeev</Name>
    --<REMOTE_SYSTEM>
    <Z_MDM_REMOTE_SYSTEM>
           <Z_MDM_SYSTEM_NAME>Panaroma AW Customer ID</Z_MDM_SYSTEM_NAME>
         <Z_MDM_VALUE>600013</Z_MDM_VALUE>
         <Z_MDM_VALUE1>600011</Z_MDM_VALUE1>
         <Z_MDM_VALUE2>600012</Z_MDM_VALUE2>
    </Z_MDM_REMOTE_SYSTEM>
    --<REMOTE_SYSTEM>
    </Product>
    Using above I saved the map.. Its fine.. I am able to import data in to MDM..
    When the file has multiple values of remote system as shown below then field are unmapped... vice versa is also the same..
    <Product>
    --<Name>Rajeev</Name>
    --<REMOTE_SYSTEM>
    <Z_MDM_REMOTE_SYSTEM>
           <Z_MDM_SYSTEM_NAME>Panaroma AW Customer ID</Z_MDM_SYSTEM_NAME>
         <Z_MDM_VALUE>600013</Z_MDM_VALUE>

    Do I need to create a seperate map for multiple iteration and single occurance..OR missing some thing? Please advice..
    Thanks
    Rajeev

    HI Ravi,
    May be I took the wrong example..
    I am not talking about remote systems... I am talking about XML source file.. If the XML source file consist of single occurance of any qualifier table then those qualifier table fields are not mapping.. IF I used the base file as multiple occurance Qualifier table....
    In the same way if I use base file as single occurance of Qualifer table .. Qualifier Fields are not getting mapped if the source file is single occurance..
    Suppose :If I use the base file as this and save the map.. I am able to import files whcih are single occurance of EMAIL...
    Fields are not getting mapped if the EMAIL occurnace is multiple.....
    <Product>
    --<Name>Rajeev</Name>
    --<EMAIL>
    <Z_MDM_EMAIL>
    <ID>ABC_yahocom</ID>
    <TYPE>TEMP</TYPE>
    </Z_MDM_EMAIL>
    --</EMAIL>
    </Product>
    In the same way: If I use the following XMl as base and create a map and save it.. Able to import files which had email occurance multiple.. Unable to import data and the fields are not mapped ......
    <Product>
    --<Name>Rajeev</Name>
    --<EMAIL>
    <Z_MDM_EMAIL>
    <Z_MDM_EMAIL>
    <ID>ABC_yahocom</ID>
    <TYPE>TEMP</TYPE>
    </Z_MDM_EMAIL>
    <Z_MDM_EMAIL>
    <ID>CDE_yahocom</ID>
    <TYPE>TEMP</TYPE>
    </Z_MDM_EMAIL>
    --</EMAIL>
    </Product>
    Please advise.. Thanks Rajeev.

  • Single Pictures fail to display

    In iPhoto '11 (9.4.3) when I double-click on a photo in an album the picture tries to open but the screen goes dark.  The size slider at the bottom is at smallest but even moved to largest no photo appears.  The flag is there and the navigator (showing the photo), but the photo itself fails to appear on the screen.  When I double-click in the middle of the dark screen the photo briefly shows and then I quickly see the photo return to the album collection.  So the photo is there in single view, but it just doesn't appear.  Strange.  I should mention that I recently installed the new iTunes software on my iMac (where the iPhoto problem is taking place) and updated my iPad to the new Apple software and then sync'd it with my iMac.  Can anyone help with this?  Thanks very much.

    A few people have fixed this recently by simply restarting the Mac.
    If that doesn't help:
    There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help: As a Test:
    Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
    Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

    In essense you are really doing nothing more than restoring a backup on a new host. If you want a blow by blow detail of how to accomplish it take at http://www.oracledistilled.com/oracle-database/restore-database-to-another-host-using-rman
    In order to write the files to the ASM Disk groups you will use the SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE in your restore script. You will also need to create the ORACLE_BASE/admin/<DBSID> structure on all of node. Once you get the database completely restore you will need to edit the SPFILE to include the proper value for the CLUSTER* parameters and each the node specific parameters. Sorry that it is kind of higher level than what you are probably looking for but the link above and what I put here should get you were want to go.
