Restoring website to edit in iweb

I recently had to rebuild my macbook pro. I created a web site using iweb and have it published. I can i restore that website to be edited in iweb. it only gives me the option to start a new site. thank you.

As Tom pointed out you need the domain file. If you don't have it you'll have to rebuild from scratch.
Chapter 2.3 of the iWeb FAQ.org site has tips on using some of the published files in the reconstruction of the site.

  • My hard drive crashed a month ago. How do I edit my iWeb website now?

My hard drive crashed a month ago. My website was published through iWeb and now on the new drive all my old info is gone. I want to get in to edit my website, but I can't figure out how to do that through my new iWeb software on the new drive?? What do I do?

Everyone else would install the Domain.sites2 folder from a backup copy. Do you have a backup copy?
iWeb can't import your published files.

  • Hard-drive saved website editing with iWeb

My university research group has a website designed on iWeb that is being hosted on an internal server (not a .mac server). The responsibility of updating it has been transfered to me. Unfortunately, I am unable to reopen any of the files associated with the website in iWeb. Is there a way to get iWeb to recognize the files I have stored either on the server or on my hard drive? If not, what visual web-editing program will be easily compatible with the format and structure in which iWeb saves websites (I have tried NVU, but am having difficulty editing the menu structure/link directory that iWeb created as they exist as .png files and not text). Thanks in advance!!

Is there a way to get iWeb to

To edit an iWeb site with iWeb you need to Domain file that created it. Do you have that somewhere?

  • How do i get hosted website files back into iWeb after they were lost off iWeb?

Lost all website files from my iWeb program.  Possible I updated a newer non compatible iWeb version?  At any rate........have website files back on my desktop and have no idea how to get them back into iWeb so I can modify.  Any help will be greatly appreciated!

You can't.  iWeb has no import capability.  Search your hard drive for a file named Domian.sites2.  It normally resides in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you use Time Machine you can go back in it to find the latest copy of that file.
    However,
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you can't find it you'll have to start a new website.  You can open the files from the website in your browser and copy/drag photos from the existing website pages into a new or blank iWeb page.  Text should be selected and copied and then pastes into the new webpage.  No need to add a text box first.

  • How can I edit my iweb published site when the domain file is empty?

How can I edit my iweb site when the domain file opens up empty? I have the site backed up in mobile me, on my computer, and on an external hard drive.
How can I transfer these files into iweb?

    Hi there,
To edit your site from one of your backed up versions, place the Domain file in User>Library>Application Support>iWeb & then launch iWeb. Update & publish.

  • I need a program to create a website. Is there iweb? Thank you

I need a program to create a website. Is there iweb? Thank you Beautiful

iWeb has been discontinued by Apple for nearly 2 years.  You would be best served to try one of the apps that have been discussed in these forums as "iWeb alternative" or "iWeb replacement".  Just search this forum for those two phrases to get a list of discussions.
One app that many have migrated to is EverWeb because is if very much like iWeb in it's user interface and operations.  It is much more advanced than iWeb ever was.  It has a 30 day demo version you can try before purchasing.
Most of the other apps discussed as alternatives or replacements also have demo versions available.

If you are referring to the demise of MobileMe, iWeb offers two other ways to publish your site...

  • How can another person on a PC edit an iWeb site?

Can someone edit an iWeb site using a browser or another app? Is there a way to run iWeb on a PC?

    In a word NO.
If you want to do anything like this using a PC, then choose another programme.  DreamWeaver is both PC and Mac compatible, or else you need to use something like an online system such as the content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal or Joomla.

Make sure you're looking in the right Library folder.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For  Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

Is it possible to edit an iWeb on 2 computers - i.e. from my work- and from my homecomputer.
I have a external harddisk that travels with me.

Arjen ~ Welcome to the Support Communities. Yes, it's possible. Transfer iWeb's key Domain file (containing your site data) usually located here:

  • How can I still edit my iWeb site on new iMac

My mid 2007 24" iMac which has served me well has memory problems. I now work with much larger projects ( Logic Studio + video ) than earlier, and have to continually keep clearing the memory as I work. I have the maximum  4 GB RAM  ).
This is halting progress so seriously that I'm considering changing it for a new iMac .... 27".
My question is: How can I still edit my iWeb site on a new iMac, when iLife is no longer included, and so presumably OS 10.7 doesn't support iWeb ?
    Will be grateful for insights.
    Thanks,
    SeaDream.

Well thanks. Sounds so complicated, though. Would another option be to backup my present Mac HD ( with Snow Leopard ) to an external HD and simply edit iWeb from there ?
As long as I also backed up this external HD, would this be a possibility ?

  • Azure SQL DB restoration on Cross Editions

    Hi Team,
We have two Azure SQL DBs hosted in Azure. The details are below:-
    1. DB1 [Standard S2 250 GB]
    2. DB2 [Basic]
And if we try to restore DB1 onto DB2 or the vice versa; Will the restore process succeed as we are doing this restoration among Different Editions of Azure
    SQL DBs? Please Confirm.
    Thanks.
    Regards,
    Subhash Konduru
Please remember to mark the replies as answers if they help and unmark them if they provide no help.

    Hi Subhash,
You cannot restore to an existing DB. You will always have to restore to a new DB. This is primarily to avoid accidental overriding your existing DB.
Once you have restored, you should upgrade/downgrade the DB edition as you see fit.

  • Opening old website pages(made with iweb) in iweb?

I created a website and I am having problems opening the website i created with Iweb because I guess it believes the site is deleted, is there anyway to open the files again and drag them back into iweb, thank you for your replies
    ~Andrew~

    Andrew,
    Welcome to the discussions!
Did you successfully publish your site? (Can you view it from a web browser?)
Look in this path on your hard drive and find your Domain file. Double-click on this file to make sure that your site is not there. Assuming that it isn't, how did you conclude your work in iWeb after building the site? You would've been prompted to Save/Publish your work when closing the iWeb window.
Published pages cannot be imported into the application; the only access to work created in iWeb is through the Domain File.
After double-clicking on the Domain, if your site does not come up, I'd be interested in knowing how you can visit the site without it having been saved in the Domain file.

  • How to convert website files to domain file for edit in iWeb

I have three sites up that I created using iWeb. My hard drive crashed and I hadn't backed up my files. Through ftp, I've downloaded all the files off my websites. Is it possible to create a 'Domain' file using the files I've downloaded? I have every single file I had before, just no way to open it all up in iWeb for editing.
    Thank you for your help.

To add to Ethmoid's reminder to backup I've created an Automator workflow application, *iWeb Domain File Backup*, that will copy the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that contains your domain file to the Desktop. You can download it from Toad's Cellar. The workflow can be edited with Automator to change the destination of the backup copy to the location of your choice.
