Restoring With Compressed Backup on Oracle.

Hi,
   We are taking Oracle Database back up in to Tape on compress mode in ProductionServer by modifying the initLPV.sap file as we have 300 GB of data, now I want to restore this backup using tape on to Quality Server.. SAP is running with AIX 5.3 and Oracle 9.2
What BRRESTORE option do I need to choose while Restoring in to Quality server?
Thanku

Hi,
Thanks for quick response.
I am looking for brrestore option.
Before set compress=yes in initLVP.sap I used to restore using below command.
brrestore -b <Deatiledlog file> -m full
but now I have set  compress=yes in initLVP.sap so I want to know does same commad work or is there any option to uncompress the data and restore in brrestore commands
Thanks

  • HT1766 Hi! I upgrade my iPhone 5 from ios 7.1 to 7.1.1. When it finished I wanted to restore with my backup but iTunes says that it can't because incompatible or corrupted. What can I do then to restore my iPhone?

    Hi!
    I upgrade my iPhone 5 from ios 7.1 to 7.1.1.
    When it finished I wanted to restore with my backup but iTunes says that it can't because incompatible or corrupted.
    What can I do then to restore my iPhone?

    Backups are only used for restoring iPhones via iTunes.
    If you desire to go about another method for extracting data from a backup, use google to find out how (if possible) to make that happen.

  • Wont let me restore with different backup

    i got an iphone 3gs a couple weeks ago and i just dropped in in my pool so my dad gave me his old iphone 3. when i swithed the sim cards however all of my contacts arre gone so i plugged it into itunes and it asked me if i wanted to restore it with the backup from my other phone and when i clicked yes it said i had to update it so i did but now i cant figure out how to restore it with the other backup!
    i tried right clicking the device and using restore from backup but only the iphone 3 backup is comming up not the iphone 3gs.
    can anyone help! please i just want to get my contacts back

    You cannot restore a backup of a newer version to an older version of iOS. The backup should be your second line of defense for contacts; you should be syncing your contacts with a desktop aoo also. If yopu ahve been you can just sync with that app. If you have not you are out of luck.

  • Create standby DB with RMAN backup in Oracle 9.2.0.6

    I am tring to create a standby DB in different host with different directory using RMAN. The commandv with which I tried to create the standby database is the follow:

    RUN

    Can anyone help my with this problem?? Thaks
    Cristian.
    PS. Sorry my bad english because I am from Latin America

    Requirements are:
    1 the backup should be accessible to both target and auxiliary database in the same location.
    2 On Unix this can be arranged through NFS, provided you set the read and write buffer to 32k.
    Obviously the backup can not be located in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, as you can not mount a NFS directory over $ORACLE_HOME/dbs without loosing functionality.

    Sunny.As an expansion on Hemant's comments, you need to be aware (if you aren't already - I'm surprised at the number of IT "professionals" who aren't) that there is no magic in the "extension" part of a file name. There are certain conventions, but they really mean nothing as far as the actual contents (data AND format) of the file. Putting a "Corvette" nameplate on my Honda Civic doesn't make it a Corvette. Putting a ".exp" extension on some unknown file doesn't make it a compressed dump file.

  • Can i restore with out backup log ?

    Hello,
    we have old system of 4.6c, which we are not using currently, but kept for old information. this had data till 2005, recently this system crashed and muliple HDD failed so we need to resore this system from backup, but the tape in which backup log files of folded /oracle/PRD/sapbackup exists is currupted, hence we dont have these file. how can we restore in this case,
    the full backup in the tape is fine, we can read the headerinfo.
    the oracle version is 8.1.7
    please suggest.
    Thanks In Advance.

    Hi,
    If you have lost backup logs then i don't think you can restore database with ordinary methods. You have to perfrom disaster recover if possible.

  • Lync Backup/Restore with SQL backup

    Is it possible to backup and restore the XDS database (Lync topology and configuration information) using SQL database tools?  Technet is very confusing, it describes in great detail how to use cmdletts to export the configuration then back it up with
    te regular backups.  But then at link for Backup - restore best practices  it states "The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary,
    the restoration process requires only one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost."
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh202184.aspx
    Best Practices for Backup and Restoration
    To facilitate your back up and restoration process, apply the following best practices when you back up or restore your data:
    Perform regular backups at appropriate intervals. The simplest and most commonly used backup type and rotation schedule is a full, nightly backup of the entire SQL Server database. Then, if restoration is necessary, the restoration process requires only
    one backup and no more than a day’s data should be lost.
    If you use cmdlets or the Lync Server Control Panel to make configuration changes, use the
    Export-CsConfiguration cmdlet to take a snapshot backup of the topology configuration file (Xds.mdf) after you make the changes so that you won't lose the changes if you need to restore your databases.
    Ensure that the shared folder you plan to use for backing up Lync Server 2010 has sufficient disk space to hold all the backed up data.
    Schedule backups when Lync Server usage typically is low to improve server performance and the user experience.
    Ensure that the location where you back up data is secure.
    Keep the backup files where they are available in case you need to restore the data.
    Plan for and schedule periodic testing of the restoration processes supported by your organization.
    Validate your backup and restoration processes in advance to ensure that they work as expected.

  • I completed a system restore with no backup. can i recover my files?

    Hii
    I completed a system recovery to factory condition and i had backed up my files too. it turns they hadnt been backed up so now i have lost all my files. Is there any way i can retrieve my files, any way at all please???

    Where did you save the backup files? If they are on dvd or external usb hdd look for an .EXE file in the list. Run it to extract the files to a folder on your laptop.
    If you saved backup files to the D;\Recovery partition before resetting they may be gone. Try Easeus Data Recovery on the C drive to see if any can be found:

  • I downloaded the iOS6 and since I have lost ALL of the data on my phone and had to start everything over.  Now that I did a system restore (with no backup), I no longer have a youtube icon.  I have done a reset settings in the general tab and no help.

    I have tried the "reset all settings" and it did not bring the icon/app back.  I have also used the search feature to see if it is 'hiding' somewhere and it is not found.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I have already lost all of my contacts and calendars, so this has been a bad day.  I went to the apple store and we sppent 2 hours trying to retreive stuff but to no avail.  I did not notice that the youtube app was missing when I left or I would have asked while I was there.

  • Slow Restore of a Compressed Backup

    All,
    I am seeing a strange behavior when restoring a compressed backup for standby duplication.
    The target and auzillary database version is 11.1.0.6 Enterprise Edition
    The size of the database uncompressed is 131.41G
    The Size of the compressed Full Backup is 58.21G
    The Duplication script is as follows:
    run {
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 TO '+DGROUPDATA1';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 10 TO '+DGROUPDATA1';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 100 TO '+DGROUPS1V1';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 101 TO '+DGROUPS1V1';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 102 TO '+DGROUPS1V1';
    DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE FOR STANDBY
    NOFILENAMECHECK;
    From the alert log on the standby during the recovery process I see that a 4GB file recovery takes a little more than an hour:
    Full restore complete of datafile 66 to datafile copy +DGROUPRPRTRDATA1/mpstndby/datafile/reporter_data1.269.676544573.  Elapsed time: 1:03:45
    Is there anyway to speed up the recovery process from a compressed backup?
    Thanks,
    Robert

    It would seem that i have plenty of resources, but i think that i may have a bigger issue.
    I am using defaults for filesperset and using just one channel.
    The restore process is also failing to execute the final step of the duplication.
    contents of Memory Script:
    switch clone datafile all;
    executing Memory Script

    so now not only do i have a slow restore but i have a restore that hasnt switched the files. So the database is in a very angry and confused state becasue it obviously doesnt know what the new names of the files are.

  • Oracle 9i Backup/Restore with Data Guard Issues

    Greetings,
    I am currently using Oracle 9i Data Guard to have a Primary/Standby model.
    The current implementation compares the backup piece id from the backed up image (taken from the Primary) with the backup piece id on the Standby db. If the number are not equal then the restore will fail.
    1- Is this the best implementation for restoring on a standby?
    2- Would it be better to give a permitted gap range between the backup piece ids between the two databases? and if so what would be an acceptable range?
    3- In case the gap range discussed in #2 above is allowed, when the Standby is started as primary and the primary set to be standby, would the Data Guard automatically tries to retrieve all the missing archive/redo log files from the primary db?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I am not sure I am following you here. Are you trying to create a physical standby, by using a backup taken from the primary?
    If this is what you're trying to do, you can take any hot backup from the primary and use it to sync the standby with your primary. The older the backup you're using to create the standby, the more archive logs you'll need to get synchronized.
    As long as you have all the archive logs needed in the archive_log_dest, data guard will automatically retrieve all the missing logs, and apply them on the standby. Again, only if they are available on the primary.
    Not sure If this is what you were asking...
    Idan.

This error are only reported from brbackup which is running on backup server which is "client side". • MSSQL 2008 R2 - 32bit, TSQL backup with compression, error: There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query

    Hello,
    I would like to ask you about advice.
    We have MSSQL 2008 R2, 32 bit. Memory is 4GB, split into 2GB for Windows and 2GB for applications. Database has recovery model simple because we have replicated data into other servers ( 2 ). Contemporary we work with 2 servers. Max memory for MSSQL is 2048
    MB.
    We set the backup as follows:
    USE MSDB
    GO
    DECLARE @JMENO_ZALOHY VARCHAR(120)
    SELECT  @JMENO_ZALOHY = 'E:\backup\BackupSQL\1 Pondeli\DAVOSAM_'+ convert( varchar(2), datepart( hh, getdate() ) ) + '00_DEN_DIFF.bak'
    SELECT  @JMENO_ZALOHY
    BACKUP DATABASE [DAVOSAM]
    TO DISK = @JMENO_ZALOHY
    WITH INIT, DIFFERENTIAL, CHECKSUM, COMPRESSION
    GO
    Every second or third day in log there is error message: 'There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query' Accurate in time of backup. The error is still repeat, majority in working hours.
    Today I have found out, that problem is probably in compression of backup. Because if I removed word: compression, a backup normally runs without error.
    Question: Is my hypothesis correct that problem is in backup with compression?
    Thank you David

    Hello, today evening I have ran backup command bellow. All is OK. Probably MSSQL has cleaned memory. Next attempt I will try in peak next week.
    Since time I have removed word compression, in error log is not any error.
    I have checked memory as soon as memory gets on top, it is about 1.707 GB the MSSQL writes into log this messgages:

  • Restore using incremental backup with noarchivelog mode

    Hello experts,
    We are running SAP on Oracle databse(IN NOARCHIVELOG MODE) for which we are having full offline backup on every sunday and post which incremental backups on rest of the days. We have scenario to do restore db to the state till last friday's incremental backup.
    Please let us know the procedure for restoring till that point. If possible using brtools utility(which is SAP specific).
    Thank You
    Regards,
    Venkateshwar

    Recovering a NOARCHIVELOG Database with Incremental Backups
    Restoring a database running in NOARCHIVELOG mode is similar to restoring a database in ARCHIVELOG mode. The main differences are:
    Only consistent backups can be used in restoring a database in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
    Media recovery is not possible because no archived redo logs exist.
    You can perform limited recovery of changes to a database running in NOARCHIVELOG mode by applying incremental backups. The incremental backups must be consistent, like all backups of a database run in NOARCHIVELOG mode, so you cannot make backups of the database when it is open.
    When you are recovering a NOARCHIVELOG database, specify the NOREDO option on the RECOVER command to indicate that RMAN should not attempt to apply archived redo logs. Otherwise, RMAN returns an error.
    To recover a NOARCHIVELOG database with incremental backups:
    After connecting to the target database and the recovery catalog, place the database in a mounted state:
    STARTUP FORCE MOUNT
    Restore and recover the database.
    For example, you can perform incomplete recovery with the following commands:
    RESTORE DATABASE
    FROM TAG "consistent_whole_backup";
    RECOVER DATABASE NOREDO;
    Open the database with the RESETLOGS option.
    For example, enter the following command:
    ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESETLOGS;

  • Best option for testing the Restore of an Backup Online with Legato

    In my company is needed to test of Restore of an Backup Online with Legato of my Production System in a server available for test with the same operating system Windows 2000 Server, the same version of SAP R/3 4.6B and database Oracle 8.1.7.4.1, but the SID is different.
    My question as is the best way to make this procedure? It will need to return to install sap with the same SID of production ??? or a way exists to change the SID and next to restore the backup online.
    I like to know me the best one practice that they can recommend to me for these cases.
    Thanks to all

    Hi,
    /people/sap.user72/blog/2006/03/04/complete-xi-backup-restore-in-an-hour How u feel abt this.
    The R3COPY (for releases 4.X) is a supported database-specific (backup/restore) procedure to perform faster Homogeneous System Copies.
