Restricting only single user to update a webpage at a time?

Hi,
I have a requirement where in I need to restrict only single user at a time to access a webpage(generated by servlet).
One way I could think of is using servlet filters but I have WAS 4.0 which doesnt support it.
Is there any other way that I can implement this??

You can just use a Servlet instead of Filter.

Single user not updating GAL/OAB

Hello there TechNet.
I have a client where one single user is not updating the Global Address List/Offline Address Book. He is not seeing some users, where everyone else in the company is seeing the user. This is specific to his outlook.
I have gone in and looked for *.oab files to delete, so they can be recreated. I did not find any. I probably looked in the wrong spot, but did follow the path:

I did not find any files, I ran a manual update of the GAL by going to Send/Receive Download Address Book.
When I ran the manual update, I received a sync error. I am now stuck, and all my research describes either the steps I wrote above, or tells how to troubleshoot at the server level. I do not see this as being a server issue, as only the one
user is getting the error. All email comes into this user correctly, so he is connected to the server.
Server is Exchange 2010, hosted onsite. Outlook is 2010 on a Windows XP machine.
I don't know what other information to provide, so please ask if I am not giving something needed to fully troubleshoot this issue.

In order for some GAL entries to show up properly, we may need to turn off Cached Exchange Mode. Please visit the document on How to turn on or off Cached Exchange Mode for Outlook 2010.

How to restrict only one instance of web service running at a time

Hi All,
Have a requirement to ensure that only one instance of java web service is active at any point of time.
Using Application Server 10.1.3.4. Not the soa suite.

I have a java web service that pulls up some files produced periodically from remote machine and uploads them to some doc mgmt system and then update the database that what files are uplaoded successfully so that during next run it will ignore those files.
so, if my web service executes second time before completion of first run. It would pick files that were already processed by first run since the first run might have not updated the databse yet.

1. Does not start automatically 2. Only ONE user at a time

When I plug the IPOD it should start iTunes automatically (I have the box checked) but it does not. Never has done that. I have the latest 7.1 version.
Another pain in the rear is that only one user at a time can run iTunes. That stinks. If another user has it open you MUST log off, stop them, log on. They ought to make this work for all users as other windows pro rams do. If it is doing NOTHING with the library then I ought to be able to use it.

That may be true but it is a real pain since when it happens the only way to recover is to terminate all of the iTunes modules with task manager and start it manually. It also leaves the IPOD in a state that says do not disconnect. You can disconnect since nothing is really happening but there is no excuse for this not to start much faster. When you have multiple users it is a real pain. It ought to be able to either end when finished or better yet allow multiple users simultaneously updating from different libraries.
I guess i will just have to get in the habit of treating it as a single user and start and stop it every time I need it and be suer not to let it run. Not nice because that means waiting for larger Podcast downloads instead of having there ready for me when I sign on my computer.

How much quota should on tablespace for single user

suppose i have created one tablespace ts1 having datafile
size 1000m . and only single user belonging this tablespace.
so i want to know what shoulg be optimal quota on that user.
unlimited is ok?

Running a huge join will only cause TEMP to get used. It won't cause any storage to "normal" data files.
If only one user accesses the tablespace, UNLIMITED seems to be a logical choice. The only time I've used non-unlimited quotas was when I wanted to prevent one user from hogging the space in a shared tablespace.

Keyboard completely unresponsive in single user mode

Since upgrading to v10.5.1 I have been unable to get both my Apple USB and Apple Bluetooth keyboards to work in single user mode. I can get into single user mode using the command-s keys but once there the keyboard dies. This is the only time the keyboard fails. I have no other USB device attatched. I am using the white (non-aluminum) Apple keyboards. I'm curious to see if anyone else has this issue.

It appears to have been a Bluetooth only issue. I got the USB keyboard to work in single user mode. However I had to first turn off Bluetooth before rebooting into single user mode. Originally I kept Bluetooth on before rebooting using my USB keyboard. This for some reason prevented the USB keyboard from functioning in single user mode. When I have some time I'll further troubleshoot the Bluetooth keyboard issue and report back.

Solaris 10 svc:/milestone/single-user timeout during patch run

Hello all,
when doing a patch run (Oct 07 baseline) on a Solaris 10 client the machine rebooted into single user as per normal. However the time for the patches to be applied in single user took so long the single-user milestone timed out and the machine went into maintenance mode. The machine did continue to complete the rest of the patch run. Anyone else seen this and have a work around? I don't really want to blanket increase the service timeout. One workaround is to ignore it and not do anything! In fact I think that is the preferred workaround.
Another question, just out of curiosity, what does your "postpatch" Post action script do? Just wondering if it might be something useful for other sites too?

Restrict metadata field during an update to a specific user group

Hello everyone,
I am having some trouble figuring out the best way to restrict permissions to change some metadata fields for 2 different groups of users.
I have two user groups, A and B. Group A will be checking in documents that the B group will then review for accuracy and quality. Group B will then update an optionlist field called "Status" with either "Recommended" or "Not Recommended".
This is not a workflow situation as the scope requires that all documents are immediately available for searching. I currently have a CheckIn and Search profile for the content permitting read write access to groups A and B. The "Status" field is hidden on the CheckIn page. Can anyone please suggest a good way to restrict the field "Status" on an Update page to just "B" users? Groups A and B should be able to update all fields with the exception of the B restricted "Status" field.

Hey rMac,
I understand it this way you have one profile for A and B user groups. On this profile Status field is hidden.
If this is your problem you can approach it from two places, while making the rule for hiding the Status field, use rule activation condition. Make it active only for users with Role A . This way even with single profile some of the user with Role B will be able to see the Status field.
otherwise you can put similar code in Restrict Personalization Link where in you make this hidden field editable and compulsory for Users in B.

IMac 7,1 boot only in single user mode

Hi all
I've a colleague with the following problem... his iMac 20'' (iMac7,1) is able to boot ONLY in safe/single user mode (with shift key pressed during boot).
If he tries to boot normally, after the usual Apple logo screen he gets a blank (light grey) screen. No finder, no login screen.
We've tried this procedures:
- SMB reset
- PRAM cleared
- OS Reinstall (we've tried from Lion to Mavericks... actually there's 10.7.5 installed)... note that ALL installation procedure has completed successfully.
- tested the 1 RAM module installed (seems to be OK)
- tested the HD (no problems found)
Despite all these attempts, this iMac is booting well only if we press SHIFT during startup. All programs run well, wifi is working and online update too. If we reboot leaving it to restart normally (no key pressed) it shows Apple Logo for 1 minutes, then (after a black reset of the screen) seems to crash/stuck into an empty grey screen.
Is possible to identify which driver/kext is causing this problem? It can be an hardware problem? How we can fix it?

1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Purchase Orders form in Query Only mode for a single user

Hi All,
I want to make the Purchase Orders form as query only for a single user. I tried by giving 'Query_only=Yes' in the parameters section. I am getting 'FRM-04151: You cannot query records here' message more than 10 time. I know we get this message and this is applicable to all the users. But this message is comming more than 10 times.
Is there anyway that I can restrict the Query only mode to a single user and please suggest about the message also.

Yosemite only boots in single user mode?!

Hello everyone,
for a few weeks now I've had issues with unresponsive wakes and whatnot but now it seems my machine has detiorated within a short walk home.
First off my specs:
MBP 13" mid 2012
Core i5 2,5Ghz, Intel HD4000
2x 4gb Ram 1600MHz
Samsung 840 Evo 120Gb SSD
As I said, within 20 minutes of carrying the laptop around the performance deteriorated drastically. When I opened it up back home it was incredibly slow and unresponsive. Opening Applications or even just folders takes about 30-60 seconds. Same applies for using the brightness controls for screen and keyboard, or the volume buttons. After some 15 minutes the System will completely stop to react to startup attempts of applications.
I tried the following troubleshoots while searching the forums as I understand this is a common problem in Yosemite:
- boot in safe mode ( worked once, but with the same problems of unresponsiveness, after a second try booting hangs at the usual 50%)
- reset SMC
- reset NVRAM ( PRAM?)
- try to repair the disk via disk recovery ( cmd + r)( repair failed and Volume vanished from the list - after that only internet recovery was available) ( also of note: today I brought my SSD up to its limit by installing unreal engine 4. I deleted it expecting to see an improvement, which I didn't get. Still, after deinstalling it the Volume showed a 99% utilization in disk recovery)
- starting single user mode and this is interesting. First it shows the following without any input:

Error 107 rebuilding /System/Library/Caches/com.apple.kext.cashes/Startup/kernelcache
then it proceeds to boot into the same unresponsive mess as before.
- In the finder I tried to repair disk permissions and again the volume itself to no avail.
I really have no idea what to do about it at this point. I can recreate this scenario and reliably boot this way but the system is painfully slow and impossible to work with. Sorry to bring up this topic again since there have been so many posts on similar problems but none of the aforementioned solutions worked for me.

Please do the following:
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
      left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
      the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
      the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
           because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should install the version of OS X that you had installed.

How to restrict the all access ? Single user mode....

I am doing export/import of schema objects from Windows to Oracle. How to make sure when I do the export in the migration database no one else is modifying the data. Is there any single user mode so that I can be sure of only one connection while exporting?
Oracle 10g R2 on Windows Server.

Perhaps you are not familiar with the concept of multi-version read consistency.
No one can see that which is not committed and reads can never be blocked.
If you want a system where no one can see things kill their sessions and do a STARTUP RESTRICT.

File server 2008 R2 Multiple share folder , single user show only single folder , not show any other folder

I've installed windows 2008 standard r2 server. 2. Configured a domain. 3. Joined 10 clients to the server. 4. Created shared folders on the sever restricting to users. (ex.USERNAME:system01 can access a shared folder:system01 only) 5. I need to give the

When you grant users "read" permission, then copying is possible and if you grant users "modify" permissions, they can also have "cut" permissions.
The 'system01' share folder is created by user 'system01'? If so, you could grant "creator owner" permissions to configure users only can access their own folder.

Restrict usage of Tocde ME2N to only 3 users at a given point of time

We have to allow at any point of time only 3 users to use transaction code ME2N. He will authorize this Tcode to 10 people out of which at a time only 3 should be allowed to use it.
He is ready to modify SAP Program.

I have an idea without changing the standard.
Block access for everyone to ME2N.
Create a Ztable(Say ZTAB_ME2N_COUNT) with Fields MANDT and CountME2N.
Then Create a new Report Program(say ZREP_ME2N) with the following Code;
Data : count type i.
Select SINGLE CountME2N from ZTAB_ME2N_COUNT INTO count.
IF Count GT 3.
Message 'You Are not authorised, Already 3 Users are Using this Tcode' TYPE 'I'.
LEAVE PROGRAM.
ELSE.
UPDATE ZTAB_ME2N_COUNT SET CountME2N = CountME2N + 1.
CALL TRANSACTION 'ME2N'.
UPDATE ZTAB_ME2N_COUNT SET CountME2N = CountME2N - 1.
ENDIF.
Save and Activate the program.
Now Create a ZTransaction (say ZME2N) and assign the above program to it.
Now Give Authorisation to 10 users to ZME2N.
This is the easiest way to achieve your requirement without changing standard SAP.
Hope you can convince your PM with this solution, Revert back if you have doubts.
