ResultSet results to String[] help

Hello all. Ok, im having a very fustrating problem in trying to get all of the columns from a ResultSet into an array. Heres my code:
String query = "SELECT * FROM counter WHERE id=2";
ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery(query);
Results corresponding to the query:
id | date     | user_agent | referrer | visits
2  | 10.09.03 | internet.. | http:/.. | 104
Vector v = new Vector();
while(rs.next()){
  v.add(rs.getString(1));
String[] results = new String[v.size()];
v.toArray(results);
for(int i=0;i<results.length;i++){
   out.println(results[i]+"<br>");
}Now that code works correctly, it will print "1". But what I want to do is get all of the columns from where id = 1 into that array! The only way I can move to the next column is to change the index to 2 from 1. Can I do this dynamically in a loop? Input will be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

And here's an even better way...
( ...but then I'm just a "Collection-ist" ;-) )
String query = "SELECT * FROM counter WHERE id = 2";
ResultSet rs = stmt.executeQuery();
//Results corresponding to the query:id | date     | user_agent | //referrer | visits2  | 10.09.03 | internet.. | http:/.. | 104
ResultSetMetaData meta = rs.getMetaData();
int numColumns = meta.getColumnCount();
List listCols = new ArrayList();
if (rs.next())
   for (int i = 0; i < numColumns; ++i)
      listCols.add(String.valueOf(rs.getObject(i+1));
rs.close();
stmt.close();
for (int i=0; i < results.length; ++i)
   out.println(listCols.get(i) + "<br/>");
}Also notice the "String.valueOf(...)" instead of using .toString().
A column "could" return a null, and null.toString() doesn't work to well.

    removed after desc in the last line so now this query will run and throw an error.

    Clearly your error is because the string concatenation you are doing with sys_connect_by_path is exceeding the 4000 bytes permitted by SQL.
    In that case you need to concatenate your data into a CLOB datatype, for which you'll need a CLOB aggregation function...
    create or replace type clobagg_type as object

      static function ODCIAggregateInitialize(sctx in out clobagg_type) return number,

    But problem is when i have clob column in any one of concatenated columns in query (a or b or c) then i am getting the error "Ora-01489: result of string concatenation is too long".

  • Empty Strings - Help!!

    I'm a new JSP developer, but this issue seems like it should be an easy one to solve. I just can't do it!!
    I'm executing a query against a table that allows nulls in most columns. I'm doing a select against all rows, and putting the data into Strings. I need to test certain strings, to see if they are empty, so I can continue with my logic.
    But, I can't seem to get it to work...I keep getting the generic WebSpherer Error 500 with no useful info in the log.
    Here's what I'm using:
    String valueText = "";
    valueText = CustomBean.getColumnValue("valueText");
    if (valueText.equals("null")||valueText.equals("")){
    out.println("its empty!!");
    }else{
    out.println("its not");
    This works if i query against a non existent recordID, but a real record with no value for valueText results in an error every time.
    Please help me!

    Try:
    String valueText = "";
    valueText = CustomBean.getColumnValue("valueText");
    if (valueText==null || valueText.equals("")){
       out.println("its empty!!");
    }else{
       out.println("its not");
    }If valueText is null you need to use the == operator not the equals method because that will give you a NullPointerException.

    Instead, i'd like the result to be 25.00000  and so on if adding any numbers(for example, if 4 was then added, the result would be 254.00000)
    How would i change the code to make this possible?

    Assuming that result = 2 when you do this:
    result_temp = result.
    you get result_temp = '2.00000', not '2' as you might expect. Hence if you convert 2 and 5 from type P with 5 decimals to type C and then concatenate you get '2.000005.00000', not '25'. If you want to get '25' try converting type P into type I and then into C.
    Also not sure what you are trying to achieve exactly but if you want to accept only integer numbers (such as 2 or 5) and to provide the result with decimals, simply define input variables as type I and only the result as type P.
    Hope this helps.

  • Populate and display internal table results using search help exit...

    I have copied F4IF_SHLP_EXIT_EXAMPLE and made changes. I want this search help exit to populate and display contents related to 'FIELD1' when the user enters a specific value for it in the search help screen, meaning when the user restricts the search by that value.  For field2, field3, field4, field5, field6, field7, and field8 I am using a custom view.
    Following is the code:
    TYPES:  BEGIN OF t_search,
                   field2 TYPE field2,
                   field3 TYPE field3,
                   field4 TYPE field4,
                   field5 TYPE field5,
                   field6 TYPE field6,
                   field7 TYPE field7,
                   field8 TYPE field8,
                   field1 TYPE field1,
                END OF t_search.
      DATA: it_itab TYPE TABLE OF t_search,
            wa TYPE t_search,
         wa_selopt TYPE ddshselopt,
            wa_fielddescr TYPE dfies.
    ranges: r_field1 for std_table1-field1
    STEP SELECT    (Select values)

          CASE wa_selopt-shlpfield.
            WHEN 'FIELD1'.
              r_field1-sign = wa_selopt-sign.
              r_field1-option = wa_selopt-option.
              r_field1-low = wa_selopt-low.
              r_field1-high = wa_selopt-high.
              APPEND r_field1.
              CLEAR: r_field1.
          ENDCASE.

  • How to limit results in search help CV01 (incl. COM_SE_F4_HELP_EXIT)

    Hi experts,
    in transaction CV03N I want to limit the result list (table RECORD_TAB) of the search help CV01 using authority check. The user should not even see the document shorttext (from table DRAT) of some TOP SECRET documents in the F4-help result ... Actual solution: no user has rights for CV03N ... :-P
    I found out, that the search help for the dynpro field DRAW-DOKNR is CV01,
    including following search helps:
    CV01T
    CV01O
    CV01C
    CV01B
    CV_TREX
    Also there is a search help exit (function modul) COM_SE_F4_HELP_EXIT for CV01.
    I tried to enhance the search help exit using the prepared BADI COM_SE_F4_RESULT_ITEMS, but after i did a short test with the relevant method, i found that there is something not working as i expected ...
    Problem:
    in the function modul COM_SE_F4_HELP_EXIT there is a step prepared called STEP SELECT.
    * STEP SELECT    (Select values)
    * This step may be used to overtake the data selection completely.
    * To skip the standard seletion, you should return 'DISP' as following
    * step in CALLCONTROL-STEP.
    * Normally RECORD_TAB should be filled after this step.
    * Standard function module F4UT_RESULTS_MAP may be very helpfull in this
    * step.
      IF CALLCONTROL-STEP =  'SELECT'.                 "here i put Session BREAK-POINT
        PERFORM STEP_SELECT
                  TABLES   SHLP_TAB
                           RECORD_TAB
                  CHANGING SHLP
                           CALLCONTROL.
    *                                      Don't process additional STEP. ..
        RETURN.
      ENDIF.
    But after i put a BREAK-POINT and than start CV03N, searching a document via F4 + press ENTER, no debugging (!).
    I have to mention that the search help proceeded was CV01T.
    Question:
    can anyone explain why STEP SELECT is not proceeded in FM COM_SE_F4_HELP_EXIT using F4-help in transaction CV03N?
    I appreciate any hint in my "search help combat"
    regards
    Jörg

  • How to get results of search help window?

    Hi, experts,
    I have a question here.
    For a field vendor id there is pre-defined search help, with which the detailed information of vendor inclusive the vendor id will be returned. But it will only fill this vendor id field. other information in the result like vendor name will be lost. I still need this information for other fields. And I hope to get other fields filled with the info in the results.
    How can I get the complete info in the result delivered by search help window?
    Can anybody help?
    Best regards,
    Fan

    In short you need to fill the other fields on the screen using the same search help.
    for that read this thread, Thomas nicely explained the same with an example

  • Question about expressions that result in strings with quotes

    Without jumping into too many of the details, I want to do something like this:
    <h:outputLink onclick="someJSFunc('#{somebean.someVal}')" />
    When the expression results in a string that contains apostrophes, the code naturally fails. Pre-JSF, I simply used a JSP scriptlet that took the value and passed it to a method that encoded it (quotes became an HTML code, etc). However, I don't know how I can achieve the same results with JSF...
    Any ideas???

    Are you using the latest RI? I'm looking at the source code, and the default response writer seems to escape quotes as """ when writing attributes, as it should for HTML.
    If you do have the latest RI, what sort of error are you getting?

  • I/O Error: Result Code=-36  HELP!!!

    Anyone got any idea what this is about? The problem in a nutshell is as follows...
    I'm running Logic 7.2.3 on a G5 (PowerPC version) with a dedicated, built in 250gig HD for audio. Over the last week I've suddenly become aware that everything I thought was being saved to this HD is impossible to access anymore and I get the above error code coming up each time.
    However, anything recorded to this HD prior to the last week still opens fine with no issues at all.
    Tell me I'm being stupid and have done something ridiculous, please!!! There's a whole lot of work down the drain if that's not the case.
    Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I have never experienced that error, but I Googled "I/O Error: Result Code=-36" and found this...
    It really has nothing to do with Logic. It is a Mac OSX error being passed on
    by Logic. It has to do with not being able to write to the drive. You can
    get this error in Logic if your recording drive is too full, is too
    fragmented, or the directory is messed up.
    Some things you can do to solve the problem are: Make sure you are recording
    to a drive other then the system drive, make sure you have plenty of free
    space on the recording drive, repair permissions, defrag the recording
    drive, or run a disk utility like Disk Warrior to check and repair directory
    issues.

  • String help needed.

    Hi guys column(below in the SQL) is a Varchar string column. COLUMN has values like ('312049D','312CF45','EDC0645','EDC5679').
    Why does SQL2 take more than twice times it takes to return SQL1 . I am learning ways to tune SQL. Please provide your suggestions/experiences to tune the SQL2. I don't understand how does it matter whether it is a 312 or EDC since the column itself is a varchar string column. Thanks in advance.
    --SQL1
    SELECT COLUMN FROM TABLE
    WHERE SUBSTR(COLUMN,1,3) IN ('312')
    vs
    --SQL2
    SELECT COLUMN FROM TABLE
    WHERE SUBSTR(COLUMN,1,3) IN ('EDC')

    To use INDEX hint? Do you really mean it?
    Do you think orcle is not intelligent enough to decide whether to use index or not?I would also link to the documentation:

    Hints were introduced in Oracle7, when users had little recourse if the optimizer generated suboptimal plans. Now Oracle provides a number of tools, including the SQL Tuning Advisor, SQL plan management, and SQL Performance Analyzer, to help you address performance problems that are not solved by the optimizer. Oracle strongly recommends that you use those tools rather than hints. The tools are far superior to hints, because when used on an ongoing basis, they provide fresh solutions as your data and database environment change.
