Retrieve a word document (Blob)

Hi
I have a table with
BLOBS(id number, documnets);
I had inserted the word document
I want to retrieve the word document and display it as a link....
On click of the link ,..the document should be opened or should be asked for downloading
can some tell me how to get it in JSP
Thanks in Advance
Sreedhar

you should use a ByteInputStream or something, and write it to a file.. Then, using jsp, create a hyperlink to this file..
make sure the file is deleten afterwards (or write it in a temp map so you can delete this map once a day)..
say you have a table and have requested the right row with an Query.. this gives you a resultset (named rs)
FileOutputStream ostream = new FileOutputStream(rs.getString("FileName"));
ObjectOutputStream output = new ObjectOutputStream(ostream);
output.writeObject(new ByteArrayInputStream(rs.getBytes("WordFile"));
output.close();
ostream.close();
I guess something like this should do the trick..

  • How do i retrieve the word document format

    I write a java program which writes a word document in to a BLOB in oracle database. and i retrieve the word document from the database and flush the output to a word document in local path. i do get the output and the word document is saved to my local path, but when i try to open the document it opens ina junk format which cannot be read.. how to preserve the format of the document??
    here is the sample code..
    I open a connection.......
    File fileIn     =     new File("C://input.doc");
    FileInputStream     finput     =     new FileInputStream(fileIn);
    BufferedReader br     =     new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(finput,"Cp1252"));

              pStmt.setBlob(2,newblob);
              pStmt.setString(3,"C://testing.doc");
              pStmt.executeUpdate();
              pStmt.close();
              Conn.commit();
              Statement     st     =     Conn.createStatement();
              ResultSet rs= st.executeQuery("select DOCUMENT from TESTPDF where DOC_NAME = " + lStrDoc_name + " for update");
              if(rs.next())
                   oracle.sql.BLOB blob=((oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleResultSet)rs).getBLOB(1);
                   System.out.println("BLOB-------->"+blob);
                   OutputStream outbb=blob.getBinaryOutputStream();
                   for(int i = 0; i < fileIn.length(); i++) {

                   outbb.flush();
              rs.close();
              Conn.commit();
    Later i read the blob and store my output...

                        e4.printStackTrace();
    The word document is stored in my local path.. but iwas not able to read the document. it opens in some ascii format..
    Your help is appreciated..

    BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(finput,"Cp1252"));Preserving the format would include not mangling it by using a Reader to read it. If you want to preserve it byte for byte then only use InputStream and OutputStream.

  • Displaying Word Document from a Database

    Let me try to explain this.
    I can upload and store a Word Document in an Oracle database
    (BLOB column) but now I need to extract that Word document and
    place a pointer to it on the Web. Can someone explain to me how
    this is done?
    I'm trying to do something like have an image displayed on
    the Web and when you click on it the Word Document is opened.
    Follow me on that? So, if there are 15 Word documents in the
    database, then the web page would have 15 images all pointing to
    each separate Word document.
    Has anyone done this?

    Don't take my word on this, but I think this should work;
    I've done this in the past to send dynamically-generated CSV files
    to the user, which is in a way (at least at the perspective of
    what's being outputted to the user) the same thing.
    First, obviously, you need to retrieve the Word document data
    from the database. We'll say you put that in a variable called
    'wordDoc'.
    <cfset wordDoc = someQuery.wordDataObj />
    Next, we need to set the 'Content-disposition' HTTP header,
    to tell the client's browser that we're sending a file, and that we
    want you to call it somefile.doc by default. We'll do this with the
    <cfheader> tag (note that if you use <cfflush> in the
    application, this tag (and thus, this approach)
    will not work.
    <cfheader name="Content-disposition" value="attachment;
    filename=somefile.doc" />
    Almost there. Now we need to set the Content-type HTTP
    header, to tell the browser what kind of data is coming, and then
    give it the actual file data. We'll use the <cfcontent> tag
    to do both of these things.
    <cfcontent type="application/msword"
    reset="yes">#wordDoc#</cfcontent><cfabort>
    If memory serves, this should be all you need. Note the
    <cfabort> after the closing <cfcontent> tag, I've had
    problems in the past with additional output on the page after these
    tags being appended to what gets sent to the browser, so I use a
    <cfabort> afterwards to make sure nothing more gets sent
    after the data we want. Also, at least with CFMX7, I've noticed
    that debugging output tends to get added in too regardless, so I
    typically put a <cfsetting showdebugoutput="false" /> at the
    top of the file, too.
    I can't guarantee this will work, I haven't tested this
    particular situation, but if it doesn't, it ought to be close. Let
    me know if I'm wrong.
    Attached is what should be the code without my commentary /
    rambling interspersed.

  • Blank areas in Word document PDF's

    We create a document in MS Word 2010.  Looks fine, prints fine.  Use the print to Adobe option in Word.  That seems to go fine.  Document pulled up in Acrobat XI, looks fine.  Print from Acrobat, we get blank areas in various areas across all pages.  Not consistent.  The blank areas are roughly mailing label sized, but do vary, and occur at random places throughout the document.  Happens on a couple of different documents, and on multiple printers.  The blank areas are consistent on different printers.
    If, alternatively, we retrieve the same MS Word document from within Acrobat, the problem doesn't occur.
    What's up with this?

    Yes, running 11.0.01.  Turns out this is a conversion from Word to Adobe issue.  On the print page there is the choice to print only the document, or the document and pop-ups, etc.   By default Acrobat was printing the document and pop-ups, etc. even though there weren't any pop-ups that we had created.  When we set the printing to be only the document, it printed correctly.   Obviously the blank areas are brought over during the Print to Adobe process in MS Word, and they're positioned all over the document, but we have no idea where where they are coming from as we didn't knowingly add anything like that to the original document.  And it also does not explain why it happens when you Print to Adobe from within Word, but it does not occur when retrieving a Word document from within Acrobat.

  • How to show a word document stored in a BLOB column?

    Hi guys.
    I'm trying to show the content of a MS Word document through forms 6i. This document was stored as byte-for-byte by an application developed in .Net to an BLOB column (oracle table). Anybody could help me in how to show this document using Internal Persistend LOBs and through forms 6i?
    I've been searching for it a lot of time without success...
    Thank you in advance.
    Alex.

    I've read about using the ole2 item, but I don't how to do it with BLOB files. I tried to use it and didn't work... I don't know if I've used it correctly or not. Could anybody give a sample, please?
    If anybody knows other way to do it, please send too.
    Thanh you,
    Alex.

  • Export BLOB data to a Word Document.

    Dear All,
    I am facing a problem during reading a blob data to a word file. My procedure work fine fine. But when I am about to open the Word Document. It gives me a message that "the document name or path is not valid. 1. Check the file permission for the document or drive. 2. Use the file open dialog box to locate the document."
    I am using 9i for this.
    Best Regards
    Umer Minhas

    Basically this happens when I write the blob data in Word File.
    I investigate this problem on MS sites and come to know that it was basically "328100 - WD2002: The Document Name or Path Is Not Valid".
    But after installation of hotfix, I again saw the same message. But when I use the utility of TOAD to export the data. It done all very well. This what basically estonished me.

  • Modifying MS WORD documents stored in BLOBS. (Oracle 9i Release 9.2.0.4.0)

    I have a need to replace a string of characters in an MS Word document that is stored in a BLOB field in an Oracle 9i database.
    Background: We have a large number of MS Word documents (~50,000) and many of them contain links to other Word documents stored on various servers throughout our network. We are moving a number of these servers, thus invalidating these links. I need to be able to update these links without having to open up every one of these documents and doing it manually.
    Is it possible, using PL/SQL, to update these links in these MS Word documents that are stored in Oracle? I have currently written a quick PL/SQL routine that will find the links and provide their location within the document, but I am not sure how I can update them. The problem, as I see it, is that if the characters that I am replacing differ in length than those that are currently in the existing document, then I would have to shift the remaining bytes of the document either left or right to preserve the integrity of the document.
    Is this possible, or should I pursue another option?

    It does not have to manual, but I think you will need to use word to modify and save the documents.
    The most automated process I can think of would be to write a client program to fetch a blob, run word, and have a word macro or add in to make the edits save, and then the client program updates with the new blob.
    With that number of documents, I would probably try to fetch a bunch of blobs and have word process them all before updating them for performance reasons.
    Unfortunately I would have no clue how to do the word automation, but I wouldn't touch those blobs using pl/sql

    hello,
    there are multiple documents out there, describing the oracle reports server setup. try doc.oracle.com for documentation.
    also it is part of the online-documentation.
    you need to install 9iAS enterprise edition. the server is pre-configured and will listen to the url http://yourserver/dev60cgi/rwcgi60.exe
    passing only this url you will get a help-screen, describing the syntax.

  • Printing Word Document stored in BLOB from Reports

    I have stored images and MS-Word documents in the DB in a BLOB column. Using reports 6, I am able to print the images by setting the File Format property of the item to Image. What I need to know is how can I print the Word document that has been stored in the DB using reports? Any alternative suggestions welcome...
    Thanks for your help.
    Aparna

    Hi Aparna,
    I have tried the same with CLOB instead BLOB.
    (MS Word)
    Only problem is (as expected) any graphics (BOLD, Table etc) will not work when printing. It also replaces the TABS with A single space.
    If you have found an answer, please let me know.

  • How do I search a word document stored in a BLOB using PHP?

    I have been successful at saving files in a blob field using oracle.
    I need to search through the word document, how can I do it using PHP?
    Please help!

    You're going to want to look at the Text Application Developer's guide.

    Give this a read and it'll give you what you need in order to search CLOB and BLOB fields for text data.
    It all works around a particular type of index which is then referenced using a CONTAINS clause in your SQL... eg:
    SELECT id FROM documents WHERE CONTAINS( document_body, 'Oracle' ) > 0
    Once you've got your head around the basic priniciples you're going to want to look at the document filters. This should allow you to index MS Word documents (warning: I've never used this for Word).
    It's not something that you can just pick up from reading a 20 line reply on a forum, but it sounds like what you're looking for.
    We use it here in order to look up on HTML documents, and it works a treat. We converted our Word documents to HTML so we could mark them up and then display them inline on pages.
    We wrap up the SQL that actually does the CONTAINS clause in a PL-SQL function, but I don't image there's a problem issuing a CONTAINS over OCI. Let me know if it works!
    Might this be an option for you?

  • Retrieving a Deleted Word Document

    Hopefully this is the right forum-please direct me if not.
    I had a Word document on a 4gb cruzer flash drive. It was called "Andrew." I worked on my friend's old iBook G3 running 10.3.9. (I also worked on it on my own iMac G5.)
    When I brought the drive to work and tried to open the Andrew file on my Windows XP PC - I had done this with no problem many times before - I could not open it. I brought it home and opened it on the iBook - but it was an empty page - 0kb.
    Now, alongside the file was a second file that was named "._Andrew". I foolishly deleted this file, and after that the problems started.
    My question is, isn't there a way to turn back the clock on the OS and retrieve this file in the version that I was last working on, on the iBook? What are my options?
    Thanks for ANY help - can't believe after all these years, I finally got nailed and lost a really important file.

    Hello Andrew,
    Remember, that you should not use the affected drive at all until you recover the file/s as they may become further written over if you continue using your computer.
    You may want to check with one of the third party data recovery softwares such as Data Rescue II to see if it is still recoverable. Most of these recovery softwares I believe offer a free trial to see if you can at least see so many MB of files that you wish to recover. You should be able to find DataRescue on Version Tracker or MacUpdate.
    hope that helps some,
