Return MovieClip symbol name from an instance

I have variables that return _level0.mcContainer.mcSquare,
_level0.mcContainer.mcTriangle, etc. They are instances of the
MovieClips mcSquare, mcTriangle, etc.
Is there any way to take the variables and return the name of
the MovieClip as it appears in the Library?
Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks for the fast response. Very close to what I need, but
I think that that is returning the instance name still, and not the
symbol name. A better example for me to offer would be the below
one.
There are variables that return
_level0.mcContainer.mcSquare01, and _level0.mcContainer.mcSquare02.
These are both instances of the mcSquare MovieClip, that were given
dynamic instance names when they were created.
Using ._name returns mcSquare01 and mcSquare02. Is there a
way to get mcSquare out of it? A custom class is the only thing I
can think of, just wondering if there were a simpler
solution.

    Hi Guys,

    Yes. hashcode is not absolutely unique. I know this.
    I had took this idea into my consideration. But it failed finally.
    Thanks
    To JN_.
    Maybe I still have some misunderstood descripte my question.
    neither the name not an "instance name" nor an "object name".
    So now, I really do not know how to call this.
    Can you tell me? Then I will not make the same fault next time.

  • Copying or duplicating a movieclip symbol

    I ran into a problem, I have a movieclip symbol which is on the maintimeline in a scene. In the next scene I need the exact same elelments in the previous movieclip but in this scene I need to animate the location back anfd forth.
    I figured I would copy the mc and rename then rename the elements that made the clip.
    No good as it changes the names elements from the orignal mc.
    Then I tried to duplicate the mc and when I tried to rename the elements inside I get the same problem.
    Just dso I'm clear here is a for instance:
    original mc is called handOne, inside that clip is an image of a hand  on one line and a blinking number looping on another line.
    this clip is stationary in the scene on the main timeline.
    Now
    I need the same exact clip in the next scene but this time it needs to move across the stage.
    Any help?
    R

    If you want another instance of the symbol it will get another name since you need a different ID for 2 elements in the DOM.
    But if you want to duplicate the symbol to make another one slighlty different, then you duplicate in the library - not the elements panel.
    If you have 2 instances of the same symbol you should be able to make them do different things without affecting the first instance.
    When a symbol is played entirtely you need to reset it to the beginning if you want to use it again unless it is a looping symbol. you reset with stop(0);
    Since I am not sure what you are doing, I am not sure how to advise you but I hope this helps.

  • How to determine the Current Domain name from inside an Mbean / Java Prog

    We have registered an Application Defined MBean. The mbean has several APIs. Now we want to determine the currrent domain using some java api inside this Mbean. Similarly we have deployed a Webapp/Service in the Weblogic domain. And inside this app we need to know the current Domain. Is there any java api that will give this runtime information.
    Note: We are the MBean providers not clients who can connect to the WLS (using user/passwd) and get the domain MBean and determine the domain.
    Fusion Applcore

    Not sure if this will address exactly what you are looking to do, but I use this technique all the time to access runtime JMX information from within a Weblogic deployed application without having to pass authentication credentials. You are limited, however, to what you can access via the RuntimeServiceMBean. The example class below shows how to retrieve the domain name and managed server name from within a Weblogic deployed application (System.out calls only included for simplicity in this example):
    package com.yourcompany.jmx;
    import javax.management.MBeanServer;
    import javax.management.ObjectName;
    import javax.naming.InitialContext;
    public class JMXWrapper {
        private static JMXWrapper instance = new JMXWrapper();
        private String domainName;
        private String managedServerName;
        private JMXWrapper() {
        public static JMXWrapper getInstance() {
            return instance;
        public String getDomainName() {
            if (domainName == null) {
                try {
                    MBeanServer server = getMBeanServer();
                    ObjectName domainMBean = (ObjectName) server.getAttribute(getRuntimeService(), "DomainConfiguration");
                    domainName = (String) server.getAttribute(domainMBean, "Name");
                } catch (Exception ex) {
                    System.out.println("Caught Exception: " + ex);
                    ex.printStackTrace();
            return domainName;
        public String getManagedServerName() {
            if (managedServerName == null) {
                try {
                    managedServerName = (String) getMBeanServer().getAttribute(getRuntimeService(), "ServerName");
                } catch (Exception ex) {
                    System.out.println("Caught Exception: " + ex);
                    ex.printStackTrace();
            return managedServerName;
        private MBeanServer getMBeanServer() {
            MBeanServer retval = null;
            InitialContext ctx = null;
            try {
                //fetch the RuntimeServerMBean using the
                //MBeanServer interface
                ctx = new InitialContext();
                retval = (MBeanServer) ctx.lookup("java:comp/env/jmx/runtime");
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                System.out.println("Caught Exception: " + ex);
                ex.printStackTrace();
            } finally {
                if (ctx != null) {
                    try {
                        ctx.close();
                    } catch (Exception dontCare) {
            return retval;
        private ObjectName getRuntimeService() {
            ObjectName retval = null;
            try {
                retval = new ObjectName("com.bea:Name=RuntimeService,Type=weblogic.management.mbeanservers.runtime.RuntimeServiceMBean");
            } catch (Exception ex) {
                System.out.println("Caught Exception: " + ex);
                ex.printStackTrace();
            return retval;
    }I then created a simply test JSP to call the JMXWrapper singleton and display retrieved values:
    <%@page contentType="text/html" pageEncoding="UTF-8"%>
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
       "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <%@ page import="com.yourcompany.jmx.JMXWrapper"%>
    <%
       JMXWrapper jmx = JMXWrapper.getInstance();
       String domainName = jmx.getDomainName();
       String managedServerName = jmx.getManagedServerName();
    %>
    <html>
        <head>
            <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
            <title>JMX Wrapper Test</title>
        </head>
        <body>
            <h2>Domain Name: <%= domainName %></h2>
            <h2>Managed Server Name: <%= managedServerName %></h2>

  • Geting a name from a button I just pressed

    Hi !
    I tried to use this._name to get the name on a button in one
    of my movieclips. but that just gives me the name of the movieclip.
    I tried to access the name from within the button but I can't post
    any scripts in the buttons scriptpanel. how will I get the name
    otherwise?
    /Mikael

    Define it as a function instead of adding the handler
    directly to the
    button. If your buttons instance name is btnOne then place
    this on the
    timeline of the clip it's contained in:
    btnOne.onRelease = function(){
    trace(this._name);

  • How to get the Portal Page name from PLSQL?

    Can anyone tell me how to get the portal page name from my dynamic page using plsql?
    Apparently you can get the page id and work it out from there, but my calls to get the page id are not returning any values anyway.
    My code for attempting to get the page id is below.
    <oracle>
    declare
    v_pageid varchar2(30);
    begin
    v_pageid := wwpro_api_parameters.get_value('_pageid', '/pls/portal30');
    htp.print('Page is '|| v_pageid);
    end;
    </oracle>
    Ideally I'd actually just like to get the page name. Is there a straightforward way to do this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Sarah

    Few clarifications -
    1. wwpro_api_parameters cannot be used to get default portal
    page parameters such as '_pageid', '_dad', '_schema' etc.,
    2. Page information can be obtained through any components which
    are available in that particular page. For example, in case of
    dynamic page, we need to publish it as a portlet and add it to the
    page. This process creates necessary packages in the DB, but we
    will not have access to the portlet methods.
    So, I would prefer creating a simple DB provider & portlet and access
    page title from its show method as follows -
    //Declare local variable l_page_id, l_page_title as varchar2
    select page_id into l_page_id from wwpob_portlet_instance$ where
    portlet_id = p_portlet_record.portlet_id and
    provider_id = p_portlet_record.provider_id;
    select name into l_page_title from wwpob_page$ where id=l_page_id;
    More information on DB provider can be found at
    http://portalstudio.oracle.com/pls/ops/docs/FOLDER/COMMUNITY/PDK/articles/understanding.database.providers.html
    Secondly, usage of wwpro_api_parameters.get_value method is
    incorrect. This method expects two arguments -
    <ul>
    <li><b>p_name : </b> The name of the parameter to be returned.</li>
    <li><b>p_reference_path : </b> An unique identifier for a portlet instance on the current page.</li>
    </ul>
    p_reference_path would be something like 99_SNOOP_PORTLET_76535103 and not some type of path as its name suggests.
    The following code fragment fetches all parameters available
    for a portlet.
    Note : Copy this code into 'show' method of your portlet.
    //Declare l_names, l_values as owa.vc_arr
    * Retreive all of the names of parameters for this portlet
    l_names := wwpro_api_parameters.get_names(
    p_reference_path=>p_portlet_record.reference_path);
    * Retreive all of the values of parameters for this portlet
    l_values := wwpro_api_parameters.get_values(p_names=>l_names,
    p_reference_path=>p_portlet_record.reference_path);
    //Loop through these arrays to get parameter information
    htp.p('<center><table BORDER COLS=2 WIDTH="90%" >');
    htp.p('<tr ALIGN=LEFT VALIGN=TOP>');
    htp.tableData(wwui_api_portlet.portlet_heading('Name',1));
    htp.tableData(wwui_api_portlet.portlet_heading('Value',1));
    htp.tableRowClose;
    if l_names.count = 0 then
    htp.p('<tr ALIGN=LEFT VALIGN=TOP>');
    htp.p('<td COLSPAN="2">'
    ||wwui_api_portlet.portlet_text(
    'No portlet parameters were passed on the URL.',1)
    ||'</td>');
    htp.tableRowClose;
    else
    for i in 1..l_names.count loop
    htp.p('<tr ALIGN=LEFT VALIGN=TOP>');
    htp.tableData(l_names(i));
    htp.tableData(l_values(i));
    htp.tableRowClose;
    end loop;
    end if;
    htp.p('</table></center>');
    Hope it helps...

  • How to remove a MovieClip symbol and stop it?

    I manually create a movieclip symbol and given instance name "Ball" on stage (not new MovieClip in AS), and it contained 20 frames animation, but after when I click a button to remove it "removeChild(Ball);", I don't know why it still running? although I can add a "stop()" code on 20 frame to stop it, but I don't think that is a good solution.
    I try to remove its Event.ENTER_FRAME, but I don't know how to do it? because I don't know its event function name.
    Could anyone explain it?

    I believe that in order to fully destroy a MovieClip (and allow it to be garbage collected) there must be no references to it, and it can't be doing anything.
    Here's what I tried:
    mcBall.stop();
    removeChild(mcBall);
    mcBall = null;
    I believe that destroyed the MovieClip. Can anyone else confirm this?

    Hi,
    In Oracle it is,
    Select column_name from user_tab_cols where table_name  = 'Table_Name';
    Note: Table_Name should be in capital letters
    In MS SQL Server it is,
    SELECT Column_Name + ', '

    Hope this helps!

  • How can I assign image file name from Main() class

    I am trying to create library class which will be accessed and used by different applications (with different image files to be assigned). So, what image file to call should be determined by and in the Main class.
    Here is the Main class
    import org.me.lib.MyJNIWindowClass;
    public class Main {
    public Main() {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    MyJNIWindowClass mw = new MyJNIWindowClass();
    mw.s = "clock.gif";
    And here is the library class
    package org.me.lib;
    public class MyJNIWindowClass {
    public String s;
    ImageIcon image = new ImageIcon("C:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/Desktop/" + s);
    public MyJNIWindowClass() {
    JLabel jl = new JLabel(image);
    JFrame jf = new JFrame();
    jf.add(jl);
    jf.setVisible(true);
    jf.pack();
    I do understand that when I am making reference from main() method to MyJNIWindowClass() s first initialized to null and that is why clock could not be seen but how can I assign image file name from Main() class for library class without creating reference to Main() from MyJNIWindowClass()? As I said, I want this library class being accessed from different applications (means different Main() classes).
    Thank you.

    Your problem is one of timing. Consider this simple example.
    public class Example {
        public String s;
        private String message = "Hello, " + s;
        public String toString() {
            return message;
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Example ex = new Example();
            ex.s = "world";
            System.out.println(ex.toString());
    }When this code is executed, the following happens in order:
    1. new Example() is executed, causing an object to constructed. In particular:
    2. field s is given value null (since no value is explicitly assigned.
    3. field message is given value "Hello, null"
    4. Back in method main, field s is now given value "world", but that
    doesn't change message.
    5. Finally, "Hello, null" is output.
    The following fixes the above example:
    public class Example {
        private String message;
        public Example(String name) {
            message = "Hello, " + name;
        public String toString() {
            return message;
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            Example ex = new Example("world");
            System.out.println(ex.toString());
    }
