Return the position of the mouse

I have an application in which i want to allow users to draw
on a set area. The problem i am having is getting the draw function
to loop and place a circle at the mouses position on the stage. I
only want the drawing tool to work howver if it is over a set area.
Would appreciate sample code that, while the mouse button is
down a circle is created every 100 milliseconds within a rectangle
at position (0, 0) with dimensions of 320 width by 240 height,
thanks in advance!

Will do! Ive got the entire source file if you like, its got
some useful stuff in it :) P.S. its designed for an adobe air
application

• Any way to fine-tune image position without the mouse?

First to explain what I'm doing: I'm placing a series of digital photos side-by-side on the Timeline, with cross-dissolves in between them. Each image shows the same drawing, only it gets more and more developed as it goes along. For this to work well, each succeeding image must be placed exactly on top of the preceding one. So what I've been doing is carefully adjusting the position of each new picture in the Canvas, using the mouse, until it sits as precisely as I can get it on top of the preceding one.
(By the way, I'm doing this by putting a cross-dissolve between two pictures, and then putting the playhead right in the middle of the dissolve, so that I can see both images at the same time. Then I move the most recent picture around with the mouse, that is, by holding down the mouse button and carefully pushing it until the two images are superimposed as closely as I can get them.
Trouble is, the mouse is not a very precise tool for this. What I'd like to do is the sort of thing you can do in Photoshop, Indesign, and other programs where you can select something (like an image or object) and then nudge it around with the arrow keys, one pixel at a time. By tapping the arrow keys, left, right, up, down, you can jog things around with great precision, which is just what I need in a situation like this, trying to get these pictures exactly on top of one another.
In Final Cut, of course, the arrow keys don't do that; they move the playhead around in the Timeline.
So my question is: when you want to move images around in the canvas with great precision, is there some way to dispense with the mouse and precisely nudge them around with keyboard keys? Or any other way?
Thanks for any advice,
Tom

Hold the Option key while using the up-down-left-right arrow keys in order to adjust the pictures centre 1 pixel at a time.
Hold the OPTION and COMMAND key while using the arrow keys in order to adjust the pictures centre 0.1 pixel at a time.
(Double click the clip in the timeline to open it in the viewer. Go to the motion tab there. Now again click on the canvas and do as I described above. You'll see the Center-values change.)
If this 0.1 pixels is not even enough, you'll need to zoom in the canvas. Select canvas. Command +. Then use the mouse. Shift Z to return to full image canvas (=Fit To Window)

• How can I show a value according to the position of the mouse arrow ?

Hi Everyone,

I would like to show the value of a temperature when passing the arrow of my mouse over the indicator. I don't want to over charge the Front Diagram with all of the temperatures.
Is this possible? The temperature could appear in a unique and fixed indicator, or linked to the arrow,...
Any help would be great,
Thanks,
User

Hi Ravens and Dan,
Thanks for your answers.
Ravens, I would rather not use the arrow position because I need to do this overs 100 indicator, and that would be a bit long. Added to that if I need to change the positions of the indicators (whch I will) that would mean to redefine the positions of the indicators....But perhaps your solution is the only possible?
Dan, I have taken out and simplified the piece of my program. Setting the value of the indicator to transparent except when the mouse is over the indicator could be an example of presentating the values but I still don't know how to this (without having to define the position of each box)
Thanks again

• How to get the position of a selected cell in a table without using the mouse event?

Dear All,
I have a question about table:After clicking the cell of a table, the cell is into the edit status. How to know the row number and column number of the cell, when I click a button?
The link below is using the mouse down event:
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=260102&query.id=55917#M260102
Is there any other way to do it? Having tried to using the "edit position" property, but it seems not working well.
Thanks for any suggestion.

• Hwo to "track the mouse position"

I m a java newbie, and need to write a small program to track the mouse position.
basically, it opens a small window, and tell you the current mouse x, y coordinate. when mouse moves, hte x, y changes...
by the way, how can i compile it to .exe file, after i finished coding.
i try this way, but so many errors.
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
public class mouseWin {
public static void main(String[] args)
protected int last_x=0, last_y=0;
mouseMoved(MouseEvent e);
JFrame frame = new JFrame("Mike's Mouse");
JLabel X = new JLabel("x: " + last_x + "y: " + last_y);
frame.getContentPane().add(X);
frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
frame.pack();
frame.setVisible(true);
public mouseMoved(mouseEvent e)
last_x = e.getx();
last_y = e.gety();

please help.
i rewrite the code, but still cannot get it work
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.util.EventListener;
public class mouseWin implements MouseMotionListener
public static void main(String[] args)
int last_x;
int last_y;
last_x = 0;
last_y = 0;
JFrame frame = new JFrame("Mike's Mouse");

• Position of the pointer of the mouse

as I can obtain the position of the pointer of the mouse in an applet
I use "MouseEvent e" and then I use "e.getX () and e.getY ()" and it compiles well
but when I execute the program they make errors.
A piece of the program:
"public class ticker2 extends Applet implements Runnable {
MouseEvent e;
public void paint(Graphics g) {
if(activo && (m.getX ()> origen[indice])
also use a "addMouseMotionListener" in the function "init" that I don't believe that it causes conflicts
Somebody knows where this the error or how should make it well.

Try this,
addMouseListener(
new MouseAdapter() {
public void mousePressed(MouseEvent e) {
if(isSelected)
System.out.println( e.getX()+e.getY() );
}); If it works I would be happy to relieve you of your dukeDollars :-)

• Viewing a video (YouTube, etc.) disables the mouse scroll wheel - switch to Opera and scroll on a page, return to FF and wheel is reenabled.

After viewing a video (usually YouTube, but not exclusively; either directly, or embedded in a web page), the mouse scroll wheel will become disabled. If I then switch over to Opera and use the scroll wheel on any open page, the scroll wheel will be re-enabled upon return to FireFox.

Important questions:
What ActiveX control are you using?
I'm using the PDF activex control to display a PDF on the front panel of my VI.
What version of LabVIEW are you using?
I'm using LabVIEW 7.1
What "control pages" are you talking about?
The pages of the PDF: it has several pages. If a mouse is held over it the user can scroll using the scroll wheel, or if they right click they can access the Adobe menu.
It's these that I'd like to inhibit them doing.
Thanks

• Easing a gotoAndStop(frame) given by the mouse position

Hi there.
I have an external swf loaded into the background and i want it to go to a frame according to the mouse vertical position.
Example: when the mouse is on the bottom part of the screen the movie is in the frame 0 and when it is on the top value goes to 800.
so far i did it like this:
_root.onEnterFrame = function ()
{
var frame:Number = Stage.height-_ymouse;
bgContainer.gotoAndStop(frame);

}
But somehow i need it to ease between the values given by the mouse position so that when there is a fast movement of the mouse, the swf only gradually goes to the frame equivalent to the last mouse position.
any sugestions??
Cheers!

actualFrame ist not a number NaN so i can't use it to define a frame to the clip to stop..
I just need a function that makes something like this:
_ymouse           ---->            clip.gotoAndStop()
1                  ---->                     1
800              ---->                     16
800              ---->                     26
800              ---->                     67
800              ---->                     135
800              ---->                     233
800              ---->                     358
800              ---->                     498
800              ---->                     571
800              ---->                     704
800              ---->                     731
800              ---->                     800

• Can I return the name of an object the mouse is touching on a click event?

Is it possible to do something similar to this pseudo code?
var oMouseListener:Object = new Object();
oMouseListener.onMouseUp = function() {
if (Mouse.clickTarget is a MovieClip) {
return the name of the MovieClip;
Mouse.addListener(oMouseListener);

i think you'll need to loop through all the on-stage movieclips:
var oMouseListener:Object = new Object();
oMouseListener.onMouseUp = function() {
checkForHitF(_level0);
Mouse.addListener(oMouseListener);
function checkForHit(mc:MovieClip){
if(mc.hitTest(_xmouse,_ymouse)){
//do something
for(var s:String in mc){
if(typeof(mc[s])=="movieclip" && mc[s]._parent==mc){
checkForHit(mc[s]);

• Is it possible to pick a point in a graph and drag/move it to another position using the mouse?

I have an array which contains sample points.
I would like to be able to pick exactly one of those points in the graph (using the mouse) and move it to another position.
Thanks
Thomas

Hi,
It's better to make just one cursor (in case you have an array of let say
200 points), and make it snap to the nearest point. With the event structure
you can read out if the user has clicked in the graph, read out the cursor,
and when the mouse button is released, change the point to the new location.
Regards,
Wiebe.

• Dynamically placing movie clip at the angle and global position of a mouse click (button) which is constantly rotating.

Does anyone know the code for finding the global positioning of X & Y co-ordinates of a click of a button which is constantly rotating,
and then secondly the code for when you click on the button it displays a movie clip on top of it -(position of x & y when clicked) at the angle that you clicked it (so underneath the buttons are still rotating so other people can click them where they are)
to explain the context, I'm trying to design a mock up of a circular interactive table
when someone comes up to it and clicks on one of the buttons that are moving, it reads where the person clicked it and opens up a new box (movie clip) where they clicked it (at the angle) so its not upside down if you are at the top.
I've included my .fla file which shows the four buttons moving and a little diagram
explaining what I'm trying to do.

yourbutton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,f);
function f(e:MouseEvent){
var yourmc:MovieClip=new YourMC();
yourmc.x=e.stageX; // if you want the mouse position where the button was clicked. else use e.currentTarget.x and e.currentTarget.y
yourmc.y=e.stageY;
yourmc.rotation=e.currentTarget.rotation;
addChild(yourmc);

• How to get an Image to rotate according to the position of the mouse in Muse?

Hey guys,
I'm designing a home page that is centered around a logo. I need the logo to rotate around 360 degrees as the mouse explores the area around it. I'm attaching a quick sketch explaining the type of motion I need, a mockup of what the page might look like, and a .png file I'll be using for the logo. Please give detailed instructions, as I am somewhat new to Muse. Thanks in advance, any help is MUCH appreciated!

UPDATE: The movement can be made very simply in Adobe Edge Animate through the following process:
(and then published as an Animate Deployment Package and inserted into Muse as a .oam file.)
" Based on this stack exchange response Edit fiddle - JSFiddle
Place the provided script in compositionReady and change the var img reference to the name of your element.
example: var img = sym.$("WirelosLogoTight");     "

• How to display the mouse position in a mouseBehavior?

hi guys. how do i display the position of the mouse (x or y coordinate) every time i rotate a tansformgroup using a mouseRotate?..thanks

Specify an AWT event as your behaviour's wakeupCriterion (MOUSE_DRAGGED or MOUSE_MOVED or something) and then do something like:
x = event.getX();
y = event.getY();

• How do you return the screen to default position?

I'm having problems with the position of the desktop screen, it appears at an angle with the left side higher than the right and the right side lower than the left which is very frustrating.
I have updated the firmware correctly, fitted a new PRAM battery and reset the PRAM and NVRAM but still the screen appears at an angle.
I can obviously re-position the screen in the OS manually but it is hard to get the exact position correct.
I was hoping to return the machine to its factory settings, which I would have thought would have returned the screen to its correct straight position. Would this work? Any ideas? Os is this a fault which can't be corrected?
Is this a common problem with the iMac G3?
Any help or info would be appreciated!

Hey Gazzola and Welcome to Apple Discussions,
I can obviously re-position the screen in the OS manually but it is hard to get the exact position correct.
Right using the monitor adjustments.
I was hoping to return the machine to its factory settings, which I would have thought would have returned the screen to its correct straight position. Would this work?
I doubt it. You could try using open firmware reset. From:
http://www.macintouch.com/panfirmware.html
"Open Firmware reset: Hold down command-option-o-f at boot until a white screen appears, and then type the following at the prompt (press return after each line):
reset-nvram
set-defaults
reset-all
Any ideas?
Yes, most likely it's a bad capacitor in the PAV section of the iMac. This can be repaired but it's a pain. You can run an external monitor via the VGA spigot under the oval grill under in the back. Just pop it off (I use a butter knife) and plug in the external. Actually you should do that just to verify it's an internal monitor problem anyway.
