Reusablity in BPEL

hi',
I am wondering what reusability can we think of in a BPEL process,
can the BPEL process be made rusable, i.e. some part of it
can be used some where else.
please advice
thanks
Yatan

Not sure about your exact requirement. But, these are few things who hit my mind :
- > Always, developers create projects in a way that has scope to append any new customer requirements or business needs
- > So, you would just add another flow or a PL to your existing JDev project and redeploy as a new revision
- > Business Rules with BPEL would be a 100% match for reusability, where facts create rules, rules gets fired based on facts, this intern creates more facts, which again fires more rules ;)
- > Reuse existing process variables for different flows .

  • Using UDDI to create reusable ESB/BPEL artifacts

    I would like to make my ESB artifacts reusable by removing end-point details from ESB configuration and having that kind of detail in an UDDI. It does not seem that the ESB has the ability to do UDDI inquiry's in runtime. Does anyone now of a work around? Have played around with the endpoint properties beta feature in Jdev to achieve some sort of abstraction, but this is not good enough (http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28211/adapter_services.htm#CHDJJDHB)
    From BPEL there seems to be a way of at least using UDDI service keys (http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/soa/soa-suite-best-practices/reusable-soa.html).
    Any input would be much appreciated.

    Hi
    We're planning an enhancement that will enable ESB to query UDDI for service endpoints using the uddiServiceKey, similar to what we provide with BPEL.
    If you send me an email on this subject I'll inform you when the enhancement is available.

  • Reusable BPM And BPEL sub processes

    Hi Heidi,
    Is there support for this already? WIll appreciate a tutorial that covers these two topics. In addition if there is any integration between the two other than web services, would be great to have some information on that as well.
    regards,
    Naresh

    Hi,
    The Reusable BPMN process (also referred to as Callable subprocess) and the Call Activity to call this reusable subprocess are not supported in this version but will be supported in a subsequent patch post the 11gR1 release. You need to use Service Tasks to invoke BPEL as well as BPMN processes exposed as a Service. You need to choose the "Async" or "Sync" template for the BPMN process to be exposed as a Service. We will get a sample out to you via the Beta site.

  • Error Creating reusable subprocesses and transform them into BPEL

    I have a reusable process
    startevent-automated activity1-automatedactivity2-end event
    I have a main process:
    startevent- automated activity"step 1"-subproces step 2 (type =independent, reference to subprocess)-automated activity "step3"-end event
    When I transform the subprocess, it is successful. Then I transform the main process. it gives me the error "subproces step2 should have a start event and an endevent. It will not open in BPM Studio".
    The start and end event are there. Am I missing something here?
    Regards,
    Lonneke

    I figured out the problem: if I want to create a reusable subprocess in BPA Suite, I need to create a 'regular function' (not an automated activity) and assign it to the subprocess. Then it is transformed without any errors.

  • Reusable BPEL process

    Hi,
    I need to create a resuable BPEL process for set of interfaces (around 10 interfaces).
    Following are the different things my BPEL process should do,
    1. Fetch the Queries from a table.
    2. Execute the queries dynamically on the fly
    3. transform the data to the destination table format, (destinable table name and database is fetched dynamically from metadata)
    4. Insert the transformed data into the Destinable table.
    Is this design possible in BPEL? Could any body put some light on it?
    Thanks,
    Rishi

    Basic Design:
    1. Create a procedure to fire dynamic sql store it in the staging table
    2. Staging table structure would be (attribute1, attribute2, ... Attribute100)
    3. Use DB Adapter to query the staging table.
    4. Do the Transformation to a staging table in target database at step no 5
    5. Use DB Adapter to insert rows into staging table in target database
    6. Stage table structure would be same as in Step 2 (ie attribute1, attribute2.... Attribute100)
    7. Use another procedure to dynamically form the query to store the data in Product staging table
    eg: Dynamic query
    insert into items_master (item_id, item_name, unit_of_measure, cost) as select attribute1, attribute2, attribute3, attribute4 from xxx_staging table
    where business_object = 'ITEMS'
    Here BPEL just acts as a transport layer (Just a replacement for DBlinks)
    Is there any way to optimize this design? Any interesting solutions?
    Thanks,
    Rishi

  • What are the major benefits of moving business logic to BPEL?

    If our logic is basically unique to every situation (i.e. customer/deployment) is there an advantage of putting it in BPEL?

    When you put the steps 1 to 8 in a form. It becomes a big logic built using different small logics.
    Your logic wont be reusable by other systems.
    When put them in a BPEL process, It becomes a structured business process.
    It becomes reusable and it can be invoked by any application (Both internal and external) built on any technology.

  • Business Catalog updated with BPEL refs, not with BPMN refs

    When adding BPEL processes to the SCA component you see the Business catalog modules "References" and "Services" are updated. However, when adding BPMN processes the Business catalog is not updated (and btw you cannot check "Expose as an web service" when creating a BPMN process like you can with BPEL processes). In my opinion the current solution seems incomplete: viewing the "Exposed services" lane of my composite.xml I should expect all of them in the Business Catalog, not only the BPEL ones. It seems Oracle's work behind the Business Catalog component has not finished yet or is there some logic behind this behaviour?
    I am working with version 11.1.1.6

    corrected spelling errors

    Dan,
    No I did not use Reusable or Manual processes, I use processes (asyn) with a Message Start event, and yes, I see them nicely in the Composite's Exposed Services and the wsdl's in the project's SOA Content folder. But my 'concern' is why the Business Catalog (BC) is not populated with BPMN processes like it is with BPEL processes. In the "Services" module of the BC I see the submodule BPEL with my BPEL processes so I had expected a submodule BPMN with my BPMN processes. From a business perspective I certainly would also see my business processes in the BC, so for me it seems 'unbalanced'
    (I ran against this issue when using correlation:
    In the process receiving an 'in flight' message I defined a Message catch event step in where I defined in the box "Message Exchange" Type :"Define Interface". Then building the process that throws the message to the in-flight process instance I defined the Message Throw event step and in that step I had expected to be able to use the Message Exchange Type "Use Interface" but that was not possible because I could only select BPEL services.
    I solved this by selecting "Process call" in stead of "Use Interface".)

  • Error in creating reusable worklist regions

    Hi,
    I tried to create reusable worklist region for the Task List task flow(taskList-task-flow-definition) in my fusion application using the following reference:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E14571_01/integration.1111/e10224/bp_worklist.htm#BHADHGCF
    I have passed the following parameters to the taskList-task-flow-definition task flow:
    federatedMode=true
    showServerColumn=true
    The wf_client_config.xml is present in the WEB-INF folder and src folder. Its contents are:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <workflowServicesClientConfiguration xmlns="http://xmlns.oracle.com/bpel/services/client" clientType="REMOTE">

    </policy-references>
    </identityPropagation>
    </soapClient>
    </server>
    </workflowServicesClientConfiguration>
    I have deployed the app to the Weblogic Admin Server. (The SOA Managed Server is present in the same domain). I'm getting the following Error message:
    Error showing tasklist. Possible reasons could be : 1. SOA server connection information is not available. 2. If it is run in federated mode, the default server may be down.
    Any solution to this?
    Thank you,
    Rashmi

    I was able to solve this by creating a bean with a method that returns the WorkflowServicesClientConfigurationType Object.
    Reference: Section A.7 in http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/user.1111/e15175/bpmug_ws_taskflows.htm#autoId27
    This works when the JSPX which contains the taskflow binding is a 'Blank Page' and I'm able to see the tasks.
    However, I tried to follow the same steps on a JSPX which uses 'UIShell template' and got a NoClassDefFound error for oracle.bpel.services.workflow.client.config.WorkflowServicesClientConfigurationType
    Any solution to this?
    Thanks.

  • Complex BPEL and modular design

    Hi,
    I am a SOA-newbie with forms and PL/sql background. In these development environments we design small modular reusable components (packages, procedures,...)
    I am currently developing my first BPEL process and it is getting quit complex. Some group of components need to be called on different places in the process.
    I could not find a descend way to do this, you can't define a module inside a bpel process that can be called in different points in the process (I think).
    Is it possible to solve this by creating a separate bpel process for this module and call this from the main bpel process?
    1. How should this be done in the best/easiest way? Call bpel from bpel? and via some queue or something???
    2. Is there some example available somewhere?
    3; How can I pass parameters from the father to the child?

    You can create one process, and call that process many times from any other process.
    Effectively, each process becomes a module.
    You need to be wary of transaction boundaries when calling processes from other processes. Check out the documentation for explanations of this.

  • BPEL/WSDL Reference Best Practices ?

    We have a BPEL project with several (30+) processes. The WSDL of one process is needed by another, which is typical for a BPEL project. Also, the processes need resources like supplementary XML files. Where can I read about how to construct the partnerLink references to these resources that will facilitate both local testing and production deployment. There must be a recommended methodology.
    If I force every WSDL (or resource) to be accessed through a separate WEB service, than the WSDL created or modified in the BPEL process must be deployed to the WEB service before I test. Is that the only solution?
    I do not see how I could use a file URL because there are multiple developers and the BPEL workspaces are probably in different top level folder paths. Though each of the processes are at the same level in the workspace. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    This link should have all that information.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/soa/soa-suite-best-practices/soa_best_practices_1013x_drop1.pdf
    You should see no to little performance hits creating multiple sub processes, if they are reusable then this is what the product is for and is encouraged. This is what SOA is all about. Whether this is best practice, I don't know this is just one persons point of view.
    Remember Oracle products are scalable, therefore if you are willing to invest in the right solution the performance is not an issue.
    When integrating to ESB don't use SOAP use the default jca adapter.
    cheers

  • BPEL Build and Project Dependencies

    Hi,
    We are developing set of BPEL processes using jDeveloper 10.1.3.1
    As part of this development, we want to develop set of utility classes which will be used in one or more of the BPEL processes using java embedding. Also these utility java classes make use of libraries like Oracle content services FDK etc.
    For this we have created a project called BPELCommon and are writing the common java classes in this project and also created various project level library setting against this project. Then made the other BPEL project depend on this BPELCommon project using Project dependency settings.
    However, when we try to build and deploy the BPEL processes using the automatically generated build.xml xml, it is failing to access and compile the classes and the project library files from the BPELCommon project.
    Tried creating a pre-build.xml file which explicitly compiles the files from the BPELCommon/src folder into the BPELProcess1/output folder using libraries. It creates the classes under the BPELProcess1/output but still “bpelc” fails to access them and to bundle the project libraries into the BPEL Suitcase.
    I believe this is pretty generic requirement since anyone developing more than one bpel process would always look for some code reusability.
    Is there a way to change the build.xml to take care of project dependencies? ie to compile the java files from BPELCommon project and bundle the compiled classes along with the library jars while building the BPEL Suitcase?
    regards - rutwik

    One of the key goals doing SOA BPEL/ESB projects is creating an automated build system. Oracle SOA is not delivering this, but it gives you the tool do do so; like all the ANT stuff. So if you have your developed reusable, you must create your own build system. I wrote an article on this on my blog

  • Error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from Oracle BPEL..

    Hi ,
    We are facing some error while invoking a WS-Security secured web service from our BPEL Process on the windows platform(SOA 10.1.3.3.0).
    For the BPEL process we are following the same steps as given in an AMIS blog : - [http://technology.amis.nl/blog/1607/how-to-call-a-ws-security-secured-web-service-from-oracle-bpel]

    Hi James,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
    We've tried to call that web service from an HTML designed in Visual Studios with the same username and password and its working fine.
    But on the BPEL console, we are getting the error as mentioned.
    Also if you can tell me how to set the user name and password in the header of the parter link.I could not find how to do it.

    Hi i have followed the following steps which is specified in this thread
    You need to follow below steps...
    add a java parameter to the OSB server. Go to domains\osb_domain\bin folder and edit the setDomainEnv file and add this line to this file. set JAVA_PROPERTIES=-Dplatform.home=%WL_HOME% -Dwls.home=%WLS_HOME% -Dweblogic.home=%WLS_HOME% -Dcom.sun.xml.namespace.QName.useCompatibleSerialVersionUID=1.0
    Step 2 is to replace the bpel jars in the bpel transport ear. Go folder osb_10.3\lib\transports and open bpel10gtransport.ear and replace the following jar files orabpel.jar, orabpel-common.jar , xmlparserv2.jar and oc4jclient.jar with the ones you can find in the soa suite 10.1.3 home.
    But still i am getting the error.
    I am using WLS (10.0).Is it compatible with bpel-10g protocol, because i have already called a sync BPEL process with http protocol and it worked?This thread talks about WLS(9.2)
