Reverberating Drum Boom/Thundering Effect? How to?

I apologize for my newbie ignorance in knowing what exactly this effect is called, which is why I can't seem to find the answer in any of my training manuals.
You know that drum sound in Bonnie Tyler's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" during the interlude where it almost sounds like thunder crashing? I'm sure it's probably originally a tom or timpani sound. But in listening to it, it has a crash or boom sort of sound that reverberates and makes a very dramatic impact.
I'm doing any arrangement like that, where that effect would be really powerful. But I'm not sure what aspect/mixing tool, other than reverb (which I've got quite high already), gives a drum sound that thunder crash sort of quality.
I'm sure there are a thousand options for creating this with all kinds of nuances. But I'd be grateful to know what avenue to take, that would at least get me pointed in the right direction.
By the way, I'm using Komplete Battery 3 to create the drum sounds that I'm using.
Thanks!

You might try using a synth to create some noise that decays slowly. To start, open the ES P, turn all the pitch sliders to off, and the noise up. Mess with the decay. You could bounce that, and further tweak the audio by slowing it down. Then add some reverb - maybe a Space Designer thunder roll type of deal.

    Will changing the location of folders effect how my Itunes will run? As I am runnig out of room fast on my C drive. And have almost a 1 terrabyte of room on the drive I want it to all to go to. I was thinking of just cutting and pasting.

    No, but do not simply move files around else you will have a lot of grief...
    Do NOT move files then change iTunes prefs to a new location as this will not work.
    Quit iTunes.
    Copy your entire /Music/iTunes/ folder (and everything inside it) on your C: drive to the E: drive.
    Hold Shift and launch iTunes.
    Select Choose library and select the iTunes folder you copied to the E: drive.
    That is all you need to do. You do not need to change any other settings.

  • How to mix drums by using effects etc.

    What advice to mix the drums. I have the following tracks (all audio)

    There are a few decisions to make. First, do you want the kit to sound like what the audience hears (audience perspective) or what the player hears? If it is audience, then pan instruments where they would show up as if you were in the audience. Also, narrow the left to right soundstage - no hard left or hard right, the kit should be heading towards mono in it's width. For player's perspective, you can widen a bit and set the pans to approximate what the player hears.
    Next, route all of the drums through a stereo bus. Put a stereo eq and a stereo compressor on the bus. This will be much easier and overall better than treating each track separately. Go easy on both. With drums that are hit softly, you can really compress and bring out the detail. If you need to later, you can add some plugs to any individual tracks that need some help. For example, you may want to remove a bunch of low end from the hat track.
    Bring up your tracks, starting with either the kick and snare or the overheads. In jazz, the emphasis is often on the hat rather than the snare, but it should all be in the overheads unless they were miked very close to the cymbals. Do you see the point? You can either build the sound from the overheads and add individual tracks as needed, or you can start from the kick and snare.
    Read all you can about compression and eq - way too much to cover here, and your learning will never stop - mine hasn't!
    It also helps to be listening to great recordings from the same genre. A couple of direct comparisons will help.
    Try sending the snare out to a dedicated reverb bus, then try returning it to your master bus so that it will be eq'd and compressed along with the rest of the kit. If that doesn't work as well as you like, return the snare verb to an appropriate output.
    As you get deeper into this process, you will want to experiment with phase reversal. Start by putting a gain plug on the kick track. Solo the kick and the overheads together, mixed so they are about the same level. In the gain plug, reverse the phase of the kick. Whichever way gives more low end is the right setting. Repeat for the snare track.
    When you want to go even deeper, experiment with the sample delay plug on the kick and snare tracks. The idea is that both the overheads and the individual mics are picking up the same sound, but the individual mics do it sooner since they are closer to the individual sound. By adding slight amounts of delay (20-80 samples) to the individual tracks, you can align them with the overhead track. As you change the delay setting, solo the overhead and the individual track and listen for the sound of the individual instrument to "bloom".
    Good luck!

  • Fade effect: how to do with "onEnterFrame"?

    Hi,
    I have a map with each city represented as a dot (MC). When
    you mouse over the dot, another MC with more city details/text
    quickly fades in, and fades out when you roll out. But I can't get
    the full fade effect working. Need your advice...
    In the dot MC, I put:
    on (rollOver) {
    _root.showCity();
    on (rollOut) {
    _root.hideCity();
    In the root, showCity() and hideCity() are functions to fade
    in and out the city details MC (city_sanfrancisco). I figured they
    should be at the root level so they can be used by other city dots
    (city_sandiego, city_boston, etc.) as well:
    //this lets me change the speed for fading in and another
    speed for fading out
    var speedIn;
    speedIn = 20;
    var speedOut;
    speedOut = 20;
    //hard-coded city for now; set city to invisible when movie
    starts
    var city = city_sanfrancisco;
    city._alpha = 0;
    //this shows the city details by fading in
    function showCity(){
    city._alpha += _root.speedIn;
    if (city._alpha > 100){
    city._alpha = 100;
    function hideCity(){
    city._alpha -= _root.speedOut;
    if (city._alpha < 0){
    city._alpha = 0;
    What this doesn't do is the full fade effect, because the
    function only executes once, so city._alpha doesn't reach 100 when
    it fades in. I've seen in other fade effect scripts, that they use
    the enterFrame event, but I don't now how to use it here... or what
    is the right syntax to make the city details MC fade in to 100% on
    rollOver, and fade out to 0 on rollOut... and still be able to
    apply a speed setting.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    you could try something like this:
    on(rollOver){
    onEnterFrame = showCity;
    then modify your showCity function slightly:
    function showCity(){
    city._alpha += _root.speedIn;
    if (city._alpha > 100){
    city._alpha = 100;
    delete onEnterFrame;
    .. with similar adjustments to you on rollOut code.
    Hope this helps,
    Sinead.

  • Update Content with fade effect - How do I do this in 1.5?

    Hello,
    Just wondering what would be the equivalent code in spry 1.5
    to the following update content with effect code in 1.4?
    function fadeIt(ele,url){
    Spry.Effect.DoFade('apDiv1',{ duration: 500, from: 100, to:
    0, finish: function() {
    Spry.Utils.updateContent(ele, url, function() {
    Spry.Effect.DoFade('apDiv1',{ duration: 500, from: 0, to:
    100 });
    I am a little stumped how to achieve this now that the effect
    code must be BELOW the html region the effect code works on. Any
    help on this would be appreciaed.

  • Zig Zag Effect - How is a segment calculated on a circle?

    I have a perfect circle, to which I have applied the Zig Zag effect. I have specified 2 ridges per segment. If I am correct in assuming that a "ridge" is the high, outer part, I end up with 6 ridges on my circle. If I specify 10 redges per segment, I get 22.
    So what does Illustrator consider a segment on a circle, and other than trial and error, how can I get a desired number of ridges?

    Ridges Per Segment means Points Per Segment. Expand Appearance and then count the points.
    Then try it again, but set the Size slider to zero.
    In both cases, you'll have 12 points; the original four and eight added (two per segment).
    You have six "star points" because there is an anchorPoint at each trough and each crest; 6 pairs of trough and crest makes six waves.

  • Invisible Effect - How do I do it?

    How do I do the effect where a person turns invisible like in Halo when you press the white button and you are an Elite and The Matrix (i think it's that movie, correct me if I'm wrong)? You can still tell that the person is there because they are distorting the background to the shape of their body. It makes it seem like they're made out of glass or liquid or something.
    Thanks for your help.

    There are many ways. Making that decision depends on your production skills, resources, budget, and patience. Generally, such effects require very high production skills, several skilled people on the crew including actors, a very high budget in terms of equipment and time, and may weeks to learn your tools, practice the techniques, plan the shoot, shoot, and then to reshoot it because you failed to do any of the homework.
    Let's start with how much time and experience have you got?
    After you think about that, start with the online help and look up displacement mapping, motion tracking, chromakey, greenscreen and bluescreen. You may want to research motion capture on the Web. Then we'll have a common language to speak.

  • Cleaning up audio causes "wind tunnel" effect - how to fix?

    I typically use Soundbooth to clean up any problems in audio, like hiss or buzz/hum noise.  I just use the default "Clean Up Audio" tool on the left side when I open the program.  It seems, though, when I adjust the levels to anything decent to get the problems out of the audio, inevitably I get a sort of "wind tunnel" effect in the sound.  Does anyone know how I can prevent this in the future?

  • The question of the blend effect, how to avoid this ?

    HI,
    Today,when i used the blend effcts to compose two footages,i found that there  few areas are not combined perfect,such as the following pic.
    i wanted to know  how did this happened? Is this the blend effects bug? And how can i do to avoid to happened this again?
    Thanks!

    The thick clouds in the original background are affecting how the blend effect works.
    Are you trying to achieve something like this?
    The colors aren't quite right because I didn't take time to exactly match the blue hues in the highlights, midtones and shadows of the cloud image, but you get the general idea.  If this is the kind of composite that you are trying to get, then keying and tinting the dragon in a separate sequence is how to do it.  Then composite the dragon sequence over the cloud/sky image in another sequence and have a play with levels, blend modes, color correction or all 3.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  • Particle effect -how to achieve this kind of effect exactly

    Hello   please help me to achieve this type of flickering particle effect.  how to achieve this in After effect  which is shown at 0.8 sec to 0.11  in the attached link video. http://www.istockphoto.com/stock-video-2682258-hearts.php

    I can't give you the exact settings but you could use Trapcode Particular with a custom particle or CC Particle world. Just turn gravity to 0 and set up a custom particle.
    Your particle layer will be behind the spinning hearts layer. This should get you going in the right direction.

  • After Effects- how to insure

    Once i buy an AFTER EFFECTS TEMPLATE and i hand it over to a designer to work on for my project- how do i insure that he doesn't use it for his own purpose afterwards?ANy suggestions please.

    You can protect InCopy Assignments in InDesign and you can do similar in Framemaker with snippets. Does that count? You can also encrypt and protect content in many CAD programs to prevent the wrong people from changing drawings... Also RenderMan RIB files and MentalRay render files can be locked to a specific license and encrypted. I'm sure if you do a little digging, one could come up with further examples. Just because Adobe has no such thing on offer does not mean that it doesn't exist or could not be used, though there will always be loopholes of course...

  • "Marker pen" effect - how to produce it?

    Hi, I would like to know how to stop iMovie and add a "marker pen effect" , like a teacher drawing on a white board. (Apple had this kind of effect in the onscreen help in OS9).
    I would like to be able to do this for single frames and a sequence of frames.
    How can I do this? Does this effect have a technical name?

    RonnieS,
    Welcome to the discussions.
    There is a plugin called Whiteboard that's part of Gee Three Slick Volume 6 that does what you describe.
    Simple Canvas from c/fx does much the same thing. You can try it out for free which I recommend, especially on your MacBook just to make sure it is compatible.

  • After Effects: How do I pause AUTOSCROLL for a second?

    The scroll effect to this blue arrow(which will go through the page) but I want to pause it for a short while, (by the bracket) , then start up again
    How do I do this with Keyframes/ or whatever

    I don't know what this "Autoscroll" thing you are using is. Is it an animation preset?
    It seems like this would be much easier to keyframe manually.
    Just keyframe the position from left to right with some keyframes in the middle to stop it.
    If you don't know how to do keyframe animation, you should take a step back and start here.

  • Pixelated Box Effect, How to do it?

    I used virtual dub to make a video as small as possible, like 50x50 pixels. Then when I open it, of course the video is small, but good quality. I want to get a pixelating box effect, so I just opened it using full screen on my laptop then I get it. The effect is there, but not the default windows size is not. Now I was wondering if there is a method of the video opening at a 500x500 (enlarged) with the video pixelating effect which you get from manually enlarging the player window by default?
    I have tried manually making it 50x50 pixels, then using WMM & Premiere to set the pixels to 500x500 so that when I open the video file it does open to the screen size I want, but the video does not turn out boxy like I want. Vd, WMM, Premiere Pro CS3 all go and "smooth" out the boxed effect for me. I am trying to recreate a scene with box effect. How to go about it?
    I am not sure if I have explained it well, but there it goes
    Thank you for your help

    There is a problem with that. I have not tried mosaic, as I want the pixelation to be natural, not some kind of permanent square boxes on the footage. I will be doing an video enlargement of different pixels, having a boxed effect is not what you see in normal poor quality video.
    I tried the second way, but CS3 does not allow me to enlarge it by more than 200% of the original size. a 50x50pixels will only get at best is 100x100pixels. Thats what made me move onto WMM in the first place. There is a big black frame around the video where the areas which you could not get the original footage bigger than that 200%. I have tried with different video resolutions, seems that the 200% resizing is a software limitation.
    I know the idea of the limitation is I would not get any kind of "viewable" video, but thats what exactly I want. Also even though it appears pixelated during editing, after rendering, CS3 still "smooths" out the box effect for me.
