Reverse order in File- Open dialogue

The file/folder list in the File->Open dialogue window is "stuck" at showing in reverse order. I can right-click in the Open dialogue window and sort ascending, but the next time I open a file it is back to reverse order.
I have experimented with Explorer's view settings but Reader appears to ignore those. Other applications, for example Word, use Explorer's view settings and behave as I would expect.
I suspect that someone has inadvertently changed something on this PC. Perhaps there's a keystroke combination that changes the file display order persistently?
Any ideas, please?
Adobe Reader version 8.1.2
XP Pro SP2

I'm still struggling with this - does anyone know how to change the file sort order in the File->Open dialogue?
It must be possible to change it because it has somehow been changed to reverse order!

  • File open dialogue

    Hello,
I was trying to use the File_open_dialogue in the CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES and used the parameters as follows:
    CALL METHOD CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES=>FILE_OPEN_DIALOG
         EXPORTING
           WINDOW_TITLE            = 'Select Files'
           DEFAULT_EXTENSION       =  '*.txt'
         DEFAULT_FILENAME        =
         FILE_FILTER             =
         WITH_ENCODING           =
         INITIAL_DIRECTORY       =
However, each time I open up the file open dialogue, it always set the default extension to *.rtf, which is not what I want, although *.txt is one of the options listed. How can I change the code to ensure that .txt file is the default while other options will still be available? Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    Anyi

  • File Open Dialogue has forward slash and starts up on A: drive.

    2.1.1.64
This is minor but bothers me each time I click file open.
    Click File -> Open
    File open dialogue appears.
SQL Developer tells me my A: drive is not accessabile after my A: hard drive makes a grinding noise. I almost forgot that little bit of info since I have not used the A: drive since around the year 2000. :)
SQL Developer puts a "/" forward slash in the file name box. Why?
    I have to press OK.
Then navigate to the C: drive or another drive.
Why does SQL developer want to open the A: drive and not go to a more likely drive like say C:? Then there would be no message and no having to click OK? My recommendation is that SQL Developer File Open dialogue start up on the C: drive or at least just show the directory structure and not make me click anything. Remove the forward slash from the filename field also.

At first this seemed to work. SQLDev would startup and open a file for me from the r:\ drive in its own tab that I was previously editing in a prior session. File->open would startup on the R:\ drive. However, with no file in its own tab on startup no matter what AddVMOption I put in the sqldeveloper.conf file from the link provided SQLDev starts up on the a:\ drive? Changing the "start in" dir on the icon on my desktop had no affect either.

  • How Do I Reverse Order Of Files In Icon View ?

My folder has files in Icon View arranged according to Date Created.
However, the last ones come first ........ how can I reverse the order so that the last ones come at the end?
It's easy in List view as you just click the triangle but how do you do it in Icon View?

Thanks Kappy - it was not mine but a neighbours question.
Originally they had the icons starting with the oldest but I think they must have had the "Arrange by" window set to none, so the files were in the order of creation. Then someone must have hit the "Date" button!

  • Spinning rainbow wheel for some minutes when apps use file open dialogue

    OSX 10.4.4
    Powerbook, home Cable via Airport.
Whenever an application such as Firefox or Word (the worst) uses the File browse and open file dialog (Finder like window) I get a spinning rainbow wheel for up to two minutes.
I have tried everything I know to hunt this down, but it happens even when newly booted.
Finder on the other hand is fine.
Any clues what I could look at?

My personal experience is that the whole iDisk/WebDAV/Finder thing is hopeless. I keep thinking it will get better, but it doesn't. I've been waiting since Jaguar, and it keeps being "one step forward, two steps back." I have given up on keeping the "official" iDisk on my hard drive. Instead I disabled the local iDisk, keep my own folder with items for my disk, and just use the freeware Goliath when I want to put something from my local files into my iDisk. You will amazed and how much faster Goliath is, and there will be no more agonizing pauses when you try to open or save something.

  • File Open - Favorite Folder

I am having Adobe Reader 8, Windows XP Professional SP 2
In the MS Word, in the File Open dialogue box, I can put a name of a particular folder on the left hand side vetical list -> something likfe 'Fovorites' concept. This saves me time in navigating through a long hierarchy of tree structure of the folders. Unfortunately, I can not find such feature in Adobe Reader 8. This results in me having to spend at least half a minute in locating my folder in the disk.
    Please guide.
    Shrikant

Reader uses the XP Common Dialogues (File Open, Save...), which are
used wherever an application doesn't have its own. You can customize
these by editing the registry or (more simply) using Microsoft's
    TweakUI utility:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiP owertoySetup.exe
Install it and configure the Places Bar through Common Dialogs -
Places Bar - Custom Places Bar.
Changes you make will be system-wide.

  • File Open Details

    Audition 1.5
Announcers only want File Name and Date Modified to show when they choose File Open and Details.
Audition willnot keep setting for next File Open request.

Unfortunately the File Open dialogue is a Windows function not Audition, so Audition can't save the setting. However you can use a third part app to allow you to customise your File dialogues in Windows.

  • PDF files print in reverse order per page

Hi - I am trying to figure out if this is an adobe issue or a printing issue.  It is happening only on this user who is on Adobe 9.1 -everyone else is on 7.0 and they aren't having this issue.  So maybe it  is  a combo.
When the user prints a PDF which was a powerpoint file (she did not creat it was sent via email) she selects 2 per page and hten selects doublesided - landscape and collates staples top left hand side.
File prints doublesided and collates, but what would be slide one would be on the bottom of the page and what would be slide 2 would show at the top.  On the back of the 1st page  slide 3 is at the the bottom and slide 4 is at the top.  Staples at the bottom right.
Printer settings seem ok......there is a selection for order and top to bottom is selected.  Reverse order is NOT selected.
Are there any settings in Adobe that would cause this?  I have googled and though there are some similar questions no one has answered.
    specs:
    Windows XP Professional SP3
    Adobe 9.1 (latest updates)
    Canon IR C5185 (multifunction color)
    thanks in advance. Robin

    Hey,
Please let me know what is your Reader version.
Open Reader and go to Edit->Preferences->Accessibility and deselect 'Replace Document Colors' option.
If this does not help, then try repairing Adobe Reader and then check.
    Let me know.

  • Sort order of files when opening a document within a program

When opening Explorer, files are correctly sorted in alphabetical order.
When opening a document (say within Word), if I search a folder then the files/folders are in a strange sort order - something like last used or modified. I don't know how this happened. I want them sorted alphabetically like in Explorer.
What do I need to do? I'm fed up of having to sort every folder each time I open it within a program.

    > Is there a way to change the way DW sorts the dirs and
    files in the file list
    > window (other than reversing it)?
have you expanded the Files Panel, made the sort by clicking
    on the
    headings, then collapsed it?

I wonder if we haven't misunderstood what you were asking for. Could it be that you have not a huge file, but just a huge list of names in many small files. If that's the case, you should rather use the following script instead of the previous one.
Since this script does not rename the files, make a backup of your files before running it.
set theFolder to choose folder -- the folder containing your text files
    tell application "Finder"
set theNames to name of files of theFolder whose name extension is "txt"
    end tell
    set theTextFiles to {}
set theFolderPath to POSIX path of theFolder
    repeat with thisName in theNames
copy theFolderPath & thisName to the end of theTextFiles
    end repeat
    repeat with thisFile in theTextFiles
set F1 to open for access thisFile
        set theText to read F1
        close access F1
set theParagraphs to paragraphs of theText
set bigList to (a reference to theParagraphs)
        set theNewParagraphs to {}
set bigNewList to (a reference to theNewParagraphs)
        repeat with X in bigList
            set P to offset of " - " in X
            if P = 0 then
                set Y to X
            else
                set Y to text (P + 3) through -1 of X & " - " & text 1 through (P - 1) of X
            end if
copy Y & return to the end of bigNewList
        end repeat
set theNewText to text 1 through -2 of (bigNewList as text)
set F2 to open for access thisFile with write permission
        set eof F2 to 0
        write theNewText to F2
        close access F2
    end repeat
display dialog "Done!" buttons {"OK"} default button 1 with icon 1

  • When I try to insert several pdf files into an initial one, they consistently are attached in reverse order, no matter how I instruct the program. How do I correct this?

I am working with Acrobat X Pro. I open a pdf, then try to insert several files, in a specific order, into the first one. No matter whether I instruct it to place the files after the first, last or name a page number, the files are inserted in reverse order after the initial file. How do I overcome this problem?

Thanks Bill !! for providing the simple answer - this has saved me much work.  I always assumed that Acrobat would either a) sort the inserted files alphanumerically or b) use the sort order of the OS's file selector.  The c) answer of inserting the files in the reverse order of the OS file selector (since Acrobat will reverse that order) eluded me until now.
It's clearly a bug in the program, I'm using Acrobat X Pro, but had the exact same problem with Acrobat 7 - never occurred to me to sort the file listing in reverse alphanumeric order in order to have Acrobat insert them in correct alphanumeric order.
    Thank!

  • Automator reverses numerical order of file names

I am using Automator to rename a series of audio files ("Get specified finder items" then "rename finder items"), and make them sequential ("add number to new name". When the script runs the order of files are reversed. The last shall be first and the first shall be last. This may be fine in some circumstances, but not to listen to a story! It is imperative to keep the original order.
How do I stop it from happening again?
How do I reverse those that have been done incorrectly?

It is not clear how you are trying to do the order. Have you tried to select a set of files and then use the arrow buttons to move them in the list? If you select the heading, that will typically reorder the files by that heading and undo everything you had done before.
You should be able to select groups of files and move them up and down in the list. All of those options appear on your view, so what is the real question?

  • Can I chnge the context menu "open in new tab / window" options back to the previous version (reverse order)?

In Firefox 4, the context menu "open in new tab / open in new window" options are in reverse order compared to 3.6. Can this be "fixed," i.e. change the menu item order? I use this feature constantly and it's a matter of habit, also still use some 3.6 machines.

You can use the Menu Editor extension to re-arrange the menus - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/menu-editor
