RH8 & Office 2010 import Word file error/failure

We are running RH8.02.208 on XP.  We just upgraded to Office 2010.  When we try to use file/import Word Document we are getting this error message
Word is installed correctly, and this kills the process. 
Does anyone have an idea why we have hit this solid brick wall?  And how to get around it?  Thank you!!!

Sorry, but Jeff is correct. Only RoboHelp 9 works with Office 2010. No patch I'm afraid.
I guess if enough folks screamed at Adobe about it one might emerge, but I'd personally not be holding my breath.

  • Client Security Solution and Office 2010's Word and Outlook

    I purchased my system June 16, 2009 with Vista downgraded to XP Pro so I was not able to purchase a upgrade disk from Lenovo to upgrade to Win 7 (deadline was June 22). This week I purchased the Windows 7,retail  64 bit Home Premium upgrade package at a local store.
    I did the upgrade (clean install) Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium on my ThinkPad T400 type 2764-CTO. Also successfully installed all Win 7, 64 bit ThinkVantage software with System Update 4.
    I manually Installed the file z909zis1032us00.exe Client Security Solution 8.3 for Windows 7 (64-bit only) Version: 8.30.0032.00 Note: When upgrading from Windows XP To use TPM with Win 7 erase TPM in the BIOS configuration utility. In the Security and Security Chip menu, locate the option to clear the security device referred to as Security Chip and clear. If not done you can install but not use the program.
    Then I had this issue with Client Security - Password Manager version 8.30.00.32.00 and Office 2010's Word & Outlook. This was before I spotted a tread with the same issue between Password Manager 3.20.0320.00 and Office 2007.
    I noticed that whenever I run Word 2010 or Outlook in conjunction with Client Security SolutionI I could not select text. I could no longer use CSS because of it...
    I called Lenovo and was told that they do not support retail version of Win 7. (Remember they refuse to sell me their version a week earlier). Because I dint know what to do, I deactivated the TPM in Client Security and it solve the problem in both Word & Outlook.
    On the following automatic System Update at the Lenovo site the system pick up something was wrong with Client Security (it did not when the TPM was activated???) and offered to download and install "Client Security Solution Office 2007 Patch 64bit". I did and following installation I re activated the TPM. The problem in Word & Outlook was no longer there.
    Then on the next system update the system offered to download and install "Patch for IE crash with Password Manager (Win7) version 1.0". I had not experience that problem but downloaded and let the system install it anyway.
    So the problem is not restricted to version 8. 3.20.0320.00 and Office 2007 as reported in the other thread. Because the patch was automatically downloaded fron the web site (Client Security Solution Office 2007 Patch 64bit)  I do not know if it is the same patch the was offered in that thread.
    I hope this will help other people having the same problem.

  • Office 2010 - Opening Network Files causes crashes

    Our users documents are mapped to network storage via a Home folder location. Our treasurer has began encountering an issue with Office 2010 with Word (this is where I've been putting most of my effort) and Excel, other programs not tested. 
    Upon going to 'File->Open' it automatically redirects to his Home folder on the Network drive, and Office goes through it's various stages of crashing (encountered an issue, etc.) I've copied the contents of one specific folder he does most of his work in
    to his desktop, but this is not optimal. Opening the contents from the desktop yields no issue.
    As far as troubleshooting goes, I first tried doing a repair, then reinstall, and finally an advanced uninstall with Revo figuring it may be a corrupted registry key. None of this worked. I Googled some info on it and found add-ons commonly caused an issue.
    I went as far as recommended by a MS support article, ultimately removing both the entire add-ins folder in Program files and in the registry. Still an issue. I progressed through various other support articles, removing various further keys (settings, toolbars,
    etc.) Still occurring. I landed upon a technet article with nearly an exact issue, and it recommended updating as MS had fixed this various issue. (duh!) Update-wise, it was pretty far behind because all of our updates are signed through SCCM, regardless,
    I have it fully updated up to Office Service pack 2. It's doing selective startups through msconfig as well, down to only Microsoft services. Finally, I've tried sfc /scannow, as well as safe mode, and neither had promising results (it was the first time I
    was really hoping for sfc to find an error!

    Press Win + R and type “eventvwr” in the blank box, then press Enter.

    Peggy, thanks for the try. I think you are on to something about the multitude of sections in the sample document.
    I think the many many sections are a result of the formating to make the word document look just like the legal case book (multiple columns of text, special sections, graphical headnotes summaries etc). The doc opens just fine in Word for windows 2000, XP and 2003. Maybe I can request a NON columnar flowing word doc that will be possible to open with Pages 3.
    In the meantime, the other good options for these legal document downloads, PDF and HTML are not good options for processing the files with Pages. I sure hope the interoperability of Pages 3 is enhanced soon. I would rather not buy the Office 2008 for the Mac if I could stick with Apple's products.
    By the way, do you know...... is there a business, marketing, or technical reason (maybe all 3)) why Text Editor seems to have greater capabilities than Pages 3 (like HTML and similar functions)?

  • Can no longer import Word files into InDesign

    Hello,
    For many months I have been importing Word files into InDesign CS3 (Mac OSX 10.4.11) with no trouble, but I started having a problem yesterday.
    When importing a 17-page Word file with 16 footnotes, I got none of the text and only the footnote numbers. This is what I get in InDesign:

    These are the things I've tried already: restarting, deleting preferences, changing the import options, using CS2, importing someone else's Word file, importing a Word file that I imported successfully a couple of months ago. None of this works.
    It has been suggested that I save the Word file as rtf, but since I have 200 files to import and I'm using Word's character styles for italics, bold, small caps, etc., I'd rather try to fix this problem.
    Can someone help?

    I am using indesign CS2 and i'm trying to import a Word document into a new chapter for a book i'm laying out. it's about 30 pages, but there are at least 80 foot notes. i'm able to get about 1/2 of the document with the footnotes to flow correctly, then EVERYTHING disappears. the only way i've been able to get the remaining text to appear is by adding characters to the text. i'll hit "vvvvvvvvvvvv" a bunch of times and "magically" a little chunk of text and it's footnotes appears. then the ole disappearing act happens. so i do it again. i'm able to get all the text to appear finally, but when i delete the "vvvvvvvvvv" from the places i inserted them, the text disappears again. i have no idea why this is happening or how to fix it. any ideas?

    Hi,
    I've always had issues when importing Word files into InDesign CS4, and after just getting CS5 it seems that they haven't been eliminated. Since it looks as though I'm going to have to just deal with these issues (I have to accept Word files from a wide variety of sources, so I can't move to an InCopy workflow, unfortunately) I thought I'd ask for some advice.
    After reading some suggestions on this forum I began making sure to accept all tracked changes and then saving to a .docx file before importing. But I have still been having trouble with disappearing endnotes (ie all notes in the text up to a certain number just get lost, even though the references at the end of the text are complete); and often the first note (the reference, not just the number) appears in an anchored text box within the text. Disappearing note numbers are the most frustrating, because it's easy to miss until much later in the layout process. Is anyone else having these problems? In fact, in a few cases saving to .docx seems to -cause- more problems than it solves.
    In any case, it seems that saving as an RTF file can produce better results, but I'm a bit wary about doing this all the time in case information gets lost when moving to RTF, or in case there are problems that I just haven't noticed yet in importing RTF files.
    So, long story short, is there any reason I -shouldn't- save all my Word files as RTF files to avoid problems when importing them in InDesign?
    If anyone has other suggestions for steps to follow when importing Word files (besides dealing with tracked changes and saving as .docx or RTF) please feel free to mention those as well!

    I don't know much about your particular case (endnotes) so I can't offer much in the way of specific advice. I also don't know where your Word files are coming from, but for me the best workflow is when
    1) I make an ID template
    2) I export an RTF from that template
    3) People use those RTF templates in Word and fill 'em with text
    4) People send me Word-edited RTFs
    5) I place those RTFs
    It's useful to know what you will lose when going from DOC -> DOCX -> place in INDD
    or
    DOC -> RTF -> INDD
    but the only way to know for sure is to test with your content. Some things break when saving to RTF from Word, but I've found that those things are mostly Word-specific stuff that I wouldn't want in any file to be placed in ID. Text boxes, WordArt (faugh), other things that MS has spot-welded onto the side of their word processing app.

    I have this magazine I design a few times a year and the articles are sent to me as word-files with tables they have to fill in in order to know who the author is, what the title will be etc.
    I would like to find a way to easily import the content of their articles etc. in Indesign and I found out that importing Word files is simple as goodbye. Me happy!
    But now I constantly have to copy-paste their article text out of the table and paste it elsewhere in the InDesign file, so I thought: isn't there a possibility to, while importing the word file, select what styles should be imported (so that the instructions I put in the template for their word articles for instance won't be put into the InDesign file but only the forms they fill in) or can I setup the importing of it to only import the form field text (if the word file would be set up as a form with protected items fields they can fill in?).

    Good question. Between Word 97 and Word 2003 the file formats changed only a little but there were some changes. The big change came in Office 2007. I've successfully opened documents created in Word 97, Word 98, Word X, Word 2003, Word 2007, and Word 2008. That also includes templates. But some items don't import properly. For example, Word Art from 2007 and 2008 won't import - you just get a place holder. (I don't recall whether Word Art always failed in this fashion, I just recently noticed it.)
    If your file is a simple word processing document you will usually successfully import the file okay but the more heavily it is formatted, the more the file appears to be a DTP document the more likely problems will crop up. These problems can be anything from subtle formatting errors to missing items all the way through Pages locking up or crashing to the desktop.

  • Batch importing Word files into separate InDesign files

    I have what I though would be a fairly common question, but I can't seem to find any information about it in this forum or on the web.
    I have a folder of Word files (over 100, which is why I don't want to do this manually) and one InDesign CS4 file that I'd like to use as a template (basically it's just a couple of pages with some threaded text boxes and a few images). I would like to write a script that will go through the Word files, one by one, and pull each into the text box in the InDesign file before saving it as a new copy (ideally with the same name as the Word file). So, if I have 100 Word files and one InDesign file in a folder, I'd like to be able to run a script and end up with 100 new InDesign files.
    I think I can deal with importing and placing the text, and saving the file again. It's mostly the question of using javascript to go through a folder to find all of the filenames so that I can pass the name to the import file command that is confusing me.
    Oh, I'm on a Mac with OS 10.6 and using InDesign CS4.

    Before reinstalling (which is most often unneeded) it would be useful to test the way the app behave when it is used in an other User Account.
    If it behave flawlessly, no need to reinstall it.
    If it doesn't, it *_may be useful_* to reinstall it but it's not sure.
    Nothing prove that the problem is really linked to the installed application's files.
    It may be linked to a file built on the fly like preferences or fonts cache…

  • Can't Import TIFF -- File Error

    I am trying to import a TIFF image into my FCP project; something I've done a hundred times. This time, however, the file will not come in. "File Error". This image was made by someone else, but it opens in my ancient Photoshop CS2..so why won't it come in with my FCP 5? It's a logo, with alpha. I've done this countless times, but don't know what to do now. Please advise. Thanks.

    There used to be an issue with FCP and graphic files that were created with Photoshop on a windows machine. The answer for that was to simply open it with PS on your Mac and re-save the file before importing to FCP. Not sure if that's the problem here but worth a shot.

  • Automator Action "Import Audio Files" error message

    I use this automator action daily when it is activated via an alarm time in iCal. It is the 3rd workflow run in a series of 7 worlflows to create audio files while I'm at work (I record XM programming for use later on my iPod). Since I upgraded to OSX Lion yesterday, I'm getting a new error message I've never seen and I can't find any info on it. Can anyone help? The error message in a popup dialogue box is:
    The action “Import Audio Files” encountered an error.
    Check the actionʼs properties and try running the workflow again.
    Under the Log for the workflow I get this message:
    The operation couldn't be completed. (OSStatus error -1712.) (-1712)
    The imported audio file does actually get inputted into iTunes and converted properly via iTunes, but the error creates two problems. One is the source file isn't deleted after the action runs (which is a checkbox option in that particular action). This isn't a big deal, because I can create another workflow seperately to delete the file, so I'm not as concerned with that. The major problem is that the error dialoge box displays and the sebsequent workflows that are scheduled to run right after this one can't run becasue Automator is occupied with the error message.
    I'm looking for any advice I can find, I've been using this series of workflows for a long time without issue, but seems like everytime there is a new OS I have to go through the geriatrics of figuring out what slight changes apple made to the Automator actions.

    I just solved the problem pretty easily: earlier, on Snow Leopard, automator had to be set to work in 32bit instead of 64bit otherwise there has been a lot of error messages. 
    I tried to do the same with iTunes on Lion and, oh miracle, it works:
    close iTunes then go to Applications -> right click on iTunes -> read informations -> check the box to run the app in 32bits and restart iTunes and .... that's it.
    I work in a local radio in Belgium and I rely on automator on an everyday basis to download then add prerecorded broadcasts to iTunes to be aired with Lion server and I was stuck since a few weeks because of that problem. Now I can finally work again :-)
    English is not my native language so please forgive me for my mistakes ... :-)

    Codecs: Apple Intermediate and H.264 (tried both, prefer using H.264 - seems to give smaller filesize with no discernable audiovisual degradation)
    1344x840 - unfortunately the game won't let me record at 1280x720, which I believe is what my final FCE product will be in anyway.

    This issue is forcing me to open the file in Quicktime Pro (or MPEG Streamclip, VLC Player or iMovie) for the only currently known way of re-compressing(?) this .mov file into something that FCE will be able to import.
    Question: What is the determining factor in FCE not being able to import a Quicktime-format file?
    Sequence Settings?
    Resolution?
    Audio recorded at 44.100kHz v.v. 48kHz?

    Don't compress the audio to AAC is the only other thing I can think of. FCE only works in specific standard video formats. Uncompressed stereo audio at 48K. AIC either 29.97 or 25fps. 1440x1080 or 1280x720.

    Unless you're building your site for a company intranet, I
    wouldn't ask
    users to download MS Word doc files for a whole list of
    reasons. PDF offers
    better rendering, it's cross platform compatible, and almost
    everybody has
    the free Acrobat reader. Just my 2 cents.
