Right storage folder according to iOS guidelines?

Hi, I was wondering where is the best place to store a larger amount of data on iOS devices. Currently, I know that "File.applicationStorageDirectory" is no good since it will be backed up by iCloud. I was thinking about using "File.documentsDirectory" that, on Android, points to the SD card. The data is not sensitive (I don't care if people gain access to it). Can I keep using "File.documentsDirectory" without harming the iOS development guidelines?
I'm targeting AIR 3.6.

Apps are not being rejected for using LSO's but you might need to explain to Apple during the app review that you are using LSO's for the right purposes since till AIR 3.6 they were backed up by default. As per iOS guidelines, anything that can be easily regenerated by the app must not be backed up either by setting the file attribute or storing such data in Caches. The preventBackup property is being added to provide a means to AIR developer so that he can prevent automatic back up of shared objects and thus adhere stricltly to the iOS guidelines.

Hello, I've been trying to do something "I thought" would have been very simple to do with Automator but with no success so far.
Work required: I have a single folder (let's call it Root) that contains a lot of files (note there are only files, no subfolders under Root). I want to make a workflow that will create a separate folder within Root based on each file's filename and the respective files will be moved into this folder (note just the filename, no extension.)
Example: Say I have 2 files in Root right now - ABC.zip and XYZ.avi. After I run Root through the workflow, 2 folders will be created within Root, called ABC and XYZ, containing ABC.zip and XYZ in each folder, respectively. There will be no more files within Root but subfolders.
I tried a few times but not sure how I can get the filename of each file and create a folder accordingly. Thanks for the help!!

Still, I have some questions how to alterate.
I have a library of movies that I unfortunately have in this way:
ABC
     Adulthood.avi
     Adulthood.jpg
     Apocalypto.avi
     Apocalypto.jpg
When I start the script it runs perfect until it comes to Adulthood.jpg and can not go on because the folder with that name already excist.
I would like to change the script so that it goes through all files with a certaing extension and moves all files with the same name (no matter what extension it has)
Does anyone know how to do this change in the script?

I thought I would voice my opinion as well.
I have an iPhone 3G and whilst I would like to say that it is excellent and that I enjoy using it the reality is that in its current state (2.02 software) it is unusable. I really had to hold my tongue there - I feel really mad at present and feel that apple should try to release software that has been through at least one decent test cycle.
I am on my second phone - the first being returned at the suggestion of apple care who suggested it may be a hardware fault - there was no fault with the hardware - again software issues but I exchanged it to cover both bases.
I have never found that the backup to work and simply do a full restore - which at present I perform on a daily basis as the phone locks at the apple screen on a daily basis and it then takes over 5 hours to restore - it is unusable.
I suspect the underlying issue in my case relates to the volume of applications that I load onto the device - but hey it should be fit for purpose!
What I am looking for here is honest recongnition and report of the issues and problems with the device from apple - and releases that give a clearer indication of their intended purpose i.e. a little more detail than "Bug Fix". Is that too much to ask?

Well, this took me a while to get solved, but it is indeed solved.
I tried USB Overdrive and it could, and perhaps should work, but apparently it will not. When adding a device, it seems that USB Overdrive is not set up to handle any input device that does not register itself as either a Mouse or a Joystick. The VEC USB Footpedal that I'm using is "Device type: Other".
So, I went for Quickeys. And Quickeys can do it all. It did recognize the device, I was able to assign it to the scope of the particular audio playback app I wanted to use (Amazing Slow Downer OS X - which is truly amazing. Any musicians reading this who are looking for a way to learn pieces by ear, this does it better than anything else I've seen yet).
I created a shortcut in Quickeys for the ASD app; added the middle button of the foot pedal as the trigger; set one step, entering 'space bar' as the step (which toggles playback, similar to many audio players).
It all worked.
Quickeys is very confusing and seemingly featured with an endless array of options. Enter at your own risk. Ask me for help. This was the only way to get it done that I could find. I did write to the author of USB Overdrive asking him to please support additional devices as I did find some traction from gamers who like to use a foot pedal in addition to other input devices. There was a Windows-only management utility for the foot pedal that was intended for custom input, assigning the buttons to any keyboard input or mouse click event. It would be nice to have a simple and easy to use utility like this. But, Quickeys did do the job.

tonefox is probably right. Server overload. I also notice that when siri does respond correctly, it is slower. My wife has a 4s and same story, and she has not upgraded to IOS 7.

How Do I Move Local OneDrive Storage Folder to Another Location?

I've just installed the new 9926 build and wanted to sync my OneDrive data. I am using native VHD boot and so OneDrive setup wizard automatically chose the local
%USERPROFILE%\OneDrive folder as a local storage for the data obtained from OneDrive.
However, I don't want the data to be stored on my VHD drive. The OneDrive wizard didn't provide any Back button to change settings for the local storage location, so I had to use the location I've chosen.
Now how do I move the OneDrive folder to another location? Previously you could right-click OneDrive folder, chose Properties and change the location on the Location tab. Now there isn't such a tab.
Is it a step back in usability for OneDrive feature?

I've found out that you have to unlink OneDrive from your PC and repeat configuration steps to change the location of OneDrive folder on your PC, just like you did so in pre-Windows 8.1 builds.
Is it a new behavior and MSFT wants to get rid of Location feature in newer Windows 10 builds, or it is just a temporary issue because some parts of Windows 10 TP code are based on pre-Windows 8.1 codebase?

Hello all: I am debating having my user profiles be written onto an NSS volume. Can I setup a folder that would allow a user to automatically create a folder for their profile for which only they have rights? Or am I stuck pre-creating the folders and setting the rights? If I give everyone full access to a specific folder, then they can automatically create the folders BUT everyone has full rights.

Revel Storage Space Hassle on IOS

So I have a pretty extensive collection of photographs, a couple hundred gigs worth, and I thought that Adobe Revel would be the way to go for storing them quickly and easily while having access on all my devices.
The problems is that the Adobe Revel app for my iPhone 4 (along with all IOS Revel Apps) insists on storing thumbnails of ALL my photos from my entire 16,000+ photo collection. This means that upwards of 500 megabytes worth of space on my phone is constantly dedicated to storing thumbnails that I will rarely need. While this might not seem like a big deal to some, on a device with 14 gigs worth of free space, 500 megabytes is the equivalent of half a movie or a few medium length audiobooks.
I appreciate the convenience of being able to scroll through everything quickly because it is already loaded. I understand that. But its the 21st century and I think we should have a little choice as to how much space this app takes up. I mean, my photo collection isn't exactly going to be getting any smaller is it?
I think we should be able to set within Revel HOW MUCH STORAGE SPACE the app will use for these thumbnails instead of having the decision be EVERYTHING by default. Given my own choice I would set it to everything marked as a favorite and everything from the past 2 weeks. I think that is a fair thing to ask for a developer as big as Adobe that could easily work this into their product.
Because right now the app is completely broken. Any attempt to open the app causes the message to pop up "Not enough local storage space: The import was stopped because there is not enough storage available for Revel on this device. Please free up space and try again." Dismissing this message only allows it to pop up again IMMEDIATELY. Can we at least fix the app so that I can still import to the cloud from my phone even when my phone cannot accept any more thumbnails?

If you use a MAC then you can check the status view of the library(s) and to ensure nothing is in the upload queue. You can do this by looking at each library, and clicking on the dot to the left of the name. It will give you a status for that library. If you are sure all the uploads are done, clear the caches for each and every library.You may have more than one library using space.
On your iphone or ipad, go to the library view for each library and look at the bottom left cloud icon above the libary icon. Next to that you will see "up to date" if it has completed the sync. You can click on the cloud icon for more information.
You can also confirm the images are uploaded by signing into the same account using another device or using a browser at www.adoberevel.com. Try downloading some original images. If other uploads are complete, you should see the new images upload and be able to view them.
If the files are in sync and clearing the cache does not help, I suggest you delete the app and reload it. Your photos will still be safely stored in the cloud. You will have some delay the first time you use it due to loading in the thumbnails. Please let me know if this reduces the amount of space used.

New user automount of RAID in ~/data, group rights in folder?

for a group of friends, I'm setting up a server for SFTP, amongst other services. Each user gets an own partition on the RAID5 mounted in ~/privat, which I can update manually in fstab. I also want them to have access to the big shared partition under ~/data.
Is there a way to automate this mount when creating a user?
The second question is regarding the rights within the big partition. I want every user to be able to write on the partition and also read/copy the content of the other users. Shall I introduce a new group or can I use the group 'disk'? The wiki suggests not to use the group 'disk' with systemd.

The users have their own partition on the RAID which is their own and I will not mess with that, I just mount it to their ~/privat.
I want the privat partitions to be privat and the big partition to be public for all users. The users won't get an own section in the public folder.
Just to clarify whether I understood it correctly.
I make a group 'friends' and add every user to this group. Then I mount the big partition to e.g. /srv/friends and bind mount /srv/friends again to each users ~/data. Thus, when someone uploads something he can r/w his own data and read everything else, but how can I ensure that all written data gets a 755 or comparable rights? As long as the user is in the 'friends' group, he automatically sets the right permissions? Isn't it user:users rather than user:friends ?
I see the advantage of the group and user right management under Unices, but it's still quite confusing sometimes.
EDIT: So I have to
chown -R :friends /srv/friends
to ensure these rights?
EDIT2: I tried this approach and changed ownership from root:friends to me:friends and for testing to friend:friends. When 'root' or 'friend' is owner of the foldertree 'me' can't cp or mkdir within this tree. So I have to set 777 permissions and how do I guarantee al copied content gets the same permissions?

Sort the content in KM folder according to date modified

I have a KM folder which has around 80 documents. The content order is all jumbled. I tried both Manual Ordering and Disabled Manual Ordering. I want to sort it according to the Modified Date. Is this possible?

Photostream folder disappeared in iOS 8, along with all my photos in that folder. Please help!

I just upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 8. I only had about 20 photos stored on my phone, and about 100 photos in my Photostream. After updating to iOS 8, I cannot find any of these photos that were in my Photostream, and cannot even find that folder on my iPhone.
Were these photos deleted?

Open the iCloud Control Panel (Windows) or iPhoto (Mac) t get teh photos from My Photo Stream.
Note My Photo Stream photos stay there for only 30 days.

You should regularly sync photos to your computer and delete them from the Camera Roll.
Copy the photos to your computer
-> iOS: Import personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
and delete them from the Camera Roll.
You can then sync the photos you want on the iPhone back to telephone using iTunes.

(Though some of this may change in the very near future with release of iOS 8, Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite and iCloud upgrades).

How do I access documents stored in Preview folder on my iOS device

I have Yosemite Beta 3 on my Mac and just updated my 3rd gen. iPad to iOS 8. With iCloud Drive I assumed I could save PDF files in iCloud, either in Preview or directly in iCloud Drive and then be able to see them on my iPad or iPhone. So far I haven't been able to make this happen. GoodReader only recognizes files that were filed in the GoodReader Folder, not files in the Preview folder. Am I missing something?
