RMAN change archivelog all crosscheck

Hi DBA's
I want to implement RMAN backup on a prod db for the first time. tha DB was running for more than 2 years and generated seveal archive logs. the previous dba was just taking a cold backup and move the archive logs to somwhere else.
i want to know if i issu the command "change archivelog all crosscheck" how long it will takes and how far it will go back to check the archive logs.
is it going to crosscheck from SCN 1 to current which is 189234 or just checks the necessary SCN numbers ?
Thanks

Hi,
Checks whether the specified backups and copies exist. If RMAN cannot find backup pieces, it marks them as having the status expired. It marks all other types of absent files--image copies and archived redo logs--as deleted.
If the files are on disk, RMAN queries the file headers. For other device types, RMAN queries the media manager to see whether the file exists in the media management catalog.
Note: RMAN considers archived redo logs as copies, so issue the change archivelog all crosscheck command if one or more logs become unavailable. If the archived logs become unavailable again, you must issue catalog archivelog to re-catalog them.
Note: If you crosscheck a control file copy, specify a filename rather than a primary key.

  • Backup archivelog all delete all input

    RMAN> backup archivelog all delete all input;
    i have backed up all my archivelogs using the above command, but after the backup archivelogs are not deleted from its default location .ie my default archive location is '/oracle/archive' . After executing the above command, I can see all the archivelogs still available in that location. why is it so

    My control_file_record_keep_time is 7 days. My understanding is that when we specify the below command,
    Rman>backup archivelog all delete all input;
    rman will backup all the archive logs(one copy of each log sequece) from the archive location and then delete all the archive logs from the archive location. is it not correct?
    >
    That is generally right. But that assumes that RMAN knows about these archivelogfiles. It knows about them because of entries in the controlfile. If they are nolonger present - RMAN will not know them and not Backup & delete them.

  • Backup archivelog all and backup archivelog in rman back

    Hi,
    Whats the difference between backup archivelog all and backup archivelog in rman backup.

    Please find below explanation from the online documentation;
    +"+
    +If you specify BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL, then RMAN backs up exactly one copy of each distinct log sequence number. For example, if you archive to multiple destinations, RMAN backs up one copy of each log sequence number—not each copy of each log sequence number. For other commands, such as DELETE ALL does refer to every log, even duplicate log sequences.+
    +"+
    Hope That Helps.

  • Backup archivelog all (RMAN)

    For the first time Rman archive log backup, say for example log sequence 100 through 200 was backed.
    After few days, log sequence has increased to 267, now if i run the same archive log backup command will rman backup 100 through 267 or 201 through 267. Am bit confused with this.
    Help me
    kumareshan

    So i need to configure retention policy (Recovery window or redundancy) so that after certain period of time entry will be removed from the catalog so that RMAN will not backup the archived logs again.. Am i right??Partially.
    You need to configure the retention policy AND add a instructions to delete the backuped archivelogs, with 'delete archivelog (all)'.

  • RESTORE ARCHIVELOG ALL VALIDATE; - returns log file names

    Environment:
    Oracle 11.2.0.3 EE on Solaris 10.5
    RMAN using control file as repository.
    My archive logs are going to /arch/<SID>. During a time of unforeseen high activity the directory was filling up and some of the files had to be move to a different mount point. I have since done several Level 0 incremental backups including (plus) archivelogs.
    My RMAN archivelog deletion setting is: CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO BACKED UP 1 TIMES TO DISK;
    I have since begun to run more frequent archive log backups to keep the mount point cleaner.
    Since I have several successful Level 0 backups including archivelogs, I manually deleted the archived logs on the secondary mount point.
    I registered the logs in the secondary mount point using REGISTER ARCHIVELOG START IN '/xxxx';
    I then ran a CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL; to update the control file repository.
    When I query the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view I see many entries for my deleted log files with a STATUS = 'X' (Expired) and a BACKUP_COUNT = 0.
    I ran DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL;
    Now when I query the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view I see many entries with blank name column for the SEQUENCE# in my list and with a STATUS = 'D' (Deleted) and a BACKUP_COUNT = 0.
    When I run a RESTORE ARCHIVELOG ALL VALIDATE; it returns a long list of my deleted files with:
    RMAN-06025: no backup of archived log ... to restore
    OK, enough background. My question is how do I get RMAN to not look for my deleted files since I have several good backups?
    I realize my deletion policy says the files have to be backed up once to disk, which according to the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view they are not, but I was hoping since I ran the CROSSCHECK RMAN would not even be concerned with them.
    Many thanks for any advice!!
    -gary

    Thanks for the help! Square brackets! Doh!
    I changed the SQL just a bit. I have only one (1) thread and the primary database was running for several months before the standby was implemented so there are over 3500 sequence#'s in the V$ARCHIVED_LOG view for the Primary (DEST=1) that are not in the Standby (DEST=2).
    Here's the SQL I ran, using the SQUARE brackets! :-)
    SELECT SEQUENCE#
    FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
    WHERE DEST_ID=1
    MINUS
    SELECT SEQUENCE#
    FROM V$ARCHIVED_LOG
    WHERE DEST_ID=2It appears to me the Standby is accepting and applying the archived logs from the Primary based on looking at the most recent archived log sequence#'s.
    I'm just trying to get rid of the entries in the RESTORE ARCHIVELOG VALIDATE; command output.
    I don't have an RMAN Repository but am using the control files at the moment.
    Any other suggestions are very welcomed!!
    Thanks again!

  • RMAN-05556: not all datafiles have backups that can be recovered to SCN

    Oracle 11.2.0.2 SE-One
    Oracle Linux 5.6 x86-64
    Weekly refresh of a test db from prod, using rman DUPLICATE DATABASE, failed with “RMAN-05556: not all datafiles have backups that can be recovered to SCN”
    Background Summary:
    Weekly inc 0 backup of production starts on Sunday at 0100, normally completes around 1050.  Includes backups of archivelogs
    Another backup of just archivelogs runs on Sunday at 1200, normally completes NLT 1201.
    On the test server, the refresh job starts on Sunday at 1325.  In the past this script used a set until time \"to_date('`date +%Y-%m-%d` 11:55:00','YYYY-MM-DD hh24:mi:ss')\"; -- hard-coded for ‘today at 11:55’.
    For a variety of reasons I decided to replace this semi-hard coding of the UNTIL with a value determined by querying the rman catalog, getting the completion time of the inc 0 backup.  This tested out just fine in my vbox lab, even when I deliberately drove some updates and log switches during the period the backup was running.  But the first time to go live I got the above reported error.
    Details:
    The key part of the inc 0 backup is this (run from a shell script)
    export BACKUP_LOC=/u01/backup/dbprod
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=/ catalog rman/***@rmcat<<EOF
    configure backup optimization on;
    configure default device type to disk;
    configure retention policy to recovery window of 2 days;
    crosscheck backup;
    crosscheck archivelog all;
    delete noprompt force obsolete;
    delete noprompt force expired backup;
    delete noprompt force expired archivelog all;
    configure controlfile autobackup on;
    configure controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to '$BACKUP_LOC/%d_%F_ctl.backup';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT   '$BACKUP_LOC/%U.rman' MAXPIECESIZE 4096 M;
    sql "alter system archive log current";
    show all;
    backup as compressed backupset archivelog all delete all input format "$BACKUP_LOC/%U.alog";
    backup as compressed backupset incremental level 0 database tag tag_dbprod;
    sql "alter system archive log current";
    backup as compressed backupset archivelog all delete all input format "$BACKUP_LOC/%U.alog";
    list recoverable backup;
    EOF
    The archivelog-only backup (runs at noon) looks like this:
    export BACKUP_LOC=/u01/backup/dbprod
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman target=/ catalog rman/***@rmcat<<EOF
    configure backup optimization on;
    configure default device type to disk;
    configure retention policy to recovery window of 2 days;
    crosscheck backup;
    crosscheck archivelog all;
    delete noprompt force obsolete;
    delete noprompt force expired backup;
    delete noprompt force expired archivelog all;
    configure controlfile autobackup on;
    configure controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to '$BACKUP_LOC/%d_%F_ctl.backup';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT   '$BACKUP_LOC/%U.rman' MAXPIECESIZE 4096 M;
    sql "alter system archive log current";
    show all;
    backup as compressed backupset archivelog all delete all input format "$BACKUP_LOC/%U.alog";
    list recoverable backup;
    EOF
    And the original refresh looked like this:
    >> a step to ftp the backups from the prod server to the test server, and some other housekeeping  <<, then
    cd /backup/dbtest
    echo "connect catalog rman/***@rmcat" >  /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "connect target sys/*******@dbprod" >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "connect auxiliary /"             >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "run {"                           >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "set until time \"to_date('`date +%Y-%m-%d` 11:55:00','YYYY-MM-DD hh24:mi:ss')\";"  >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "duplicate target database to DBTEST;"  >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "}" >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    So, my mod to the refresh was
    bkup_point=`sqlplus -s rman/***@rmcat <<EOF1
    set echo off verify off feedback off head off pages 0 trimsp on
    select to_char(max(completion_time),'yyyy-mm-dd hh24:mi:ss')
    from rc_backup_set_details
    where db_name='DBPROD'
    and backup_type='D'
    and incremental_level=0
    exit
    EOF1`
    cd /backup/dbtest
    echo "connect catalog rman/***@rmcat"     > /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "connect target sys/*******@dbprod"    >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "connect auxiliary /"                >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "run {"                              >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "set until time \"to_date('${bkup_point}','YYYY-MM-DD hh24:mi:ss')\";"  >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "duplicate target database to DBTEST;" >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    echo "}"                                  >> /backup/dbtest/dbtest_refresh.rman
    Now the fun begins.
    First, an echo in the refresh script confirmed the ‘bkup_point’:
    =======================================================
    We will restore to 2013-08-25 10:41:38
    =======================================================
    Internally, rman reset the ‘until’ as follows:

    Notice the availability of the archivelogs including the referenced scn.
    Investigation of the ftp portion of the refresh script confirmed that all backup pieces were copied from the prod server.
    So what am I overlooking?  Having reverted back to the original script to get the refresh completed,

    HemantKChitale wrote:
    So, technically, you only need the database and archivelogs backed up by the database script and not the noon run of the archivelog backup.

    backup as compressed backupset incremental level 0 database tag tag_dbprod;

    backup as compressed backupset archivelog all delete all input format "$BACKUP_LOC/%U.alog";
    Yet, why does backupset 5 of the noon archivelog backup show archivelogs from 10:30 to 10:40  if they had been deleted by the database backup script which has a delete input ?  It is as if the database backup script did NOT delete the archivelogs and the noon run was the one to backup the archivelogs (again ?)
    No, that is from the morning full backup.  Note the 'Completion Time" of 25-Aug-2013 10:54:53
    However, the error message seems to point to a datafile.  Why would reverting the recovery point to 11:55 make a difference, I wonder.
    As do I.
    Also puzzling to me are the times associated with the completion of the backups.  I don't recall ever having to scrutinize a backup listing this closely so I'm sure it's just a matter of filling in some gaps in my understanding, but I noticed this.  The backup report (list backup;) shows this for the inc 0 backup:

    I hope this posts in a readable, understandable manner.  I really struggeled with the 'enhanced editor', which I normally use.  When I pasted in blocks from the rman report, it kept trying to make some sort of table structure out of it .... guess I'll have to follow that up with a question in the Community forum ....

  • Backup archivelog all

    Hi,
    Whats the difference between backup archivelog all and backup archivelog using rman.

    I think i have answered such question before, strange :)
    Anyway please find below link to read something about the backup command;
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10643/rcmsynta007.htm#RCMRF107

    Hope That Helps.

  • Rman delete archivelog until time 2hrs

    guys,
    I want to use this inside rman.
    rman{
    RUN{
    ALLOCATE CHANNEL ch01 TYPE DISK FORMAT 'blah lah';
    BACKUP
    ARCHIVELOG ALL
    DELETE archivelog until time "older than 2 hrs ago" backed up 1 times to device type sbt; ;
    RELEASE CHANNEL ch01;
    how do i translate this "older than 2 hrs ago" to RMAN language
    Edited by: user2579172 on Mar 29, 2010 1:19 PM

    this served my purpose :
    DELETE archivelog until time "sysdate-1/30" backed up 1 times to device type disk ;
    but
    rman is prompting whether to delete the archivelogs or not
    ex:
    List of Archived Log Copies
    Key Thrd Seq S Low Time Name
    4303374 1 11623
    Do you really want to delete the above objects (enter YES or NO)?
    Error occurred getting response - assuming NO response
    released channel: ch01
    RMAN>
    HOW i heck I tell RMAN inside the run {   to delete the archive logs without prompting me for YES OR NO

    You can try resetting your iPad by simultaneously pressing and holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see the Apple Logo. This can take up to 15 seconds so be patient and don't release the buttons until the logo appears. Try again to see if the problem persists.
    If yes, try deleting the mail account and adding it again.

  • Infotype screen headers needs to be changed for all the infotypes

    Hi Guys,
    This would be for a global implementation question.
    For the US for a particular region, the screen header needs to be changed for all the infotypes.
    The existing field (in the infotype header) is Employee Group which needs to be replaced with employment status.
    The know how to change the headers but my question is STAT2 exists in IT 0000 but does not exist in 0001, 0002 0007.........etc
    When i go to Table T588J to add an entry , Screen Header 42......,
    I get an error " No Field STAT2 exists for infotype 0001"
    No field STAT2 exists for infotype 0001.
    Message no. PG811
    Diagnosis
    No STAT2 field exists for infotype 0001.
    Procedure
    Please contact your system administrator.
    Procedure for System Administration
    In Customizing, determine the incorrect entry in Personnel
    Administration in the Header structure per infotype view, step " Determine infotype header and correct it
    I would like to have some inputs from you guys ..... Any Suggessions...
    Thanks,
    Aastha

    Hi Aastha,
    Correct me if I am wrong.
    First you need to maintain the header in T588J.
    Screen header of an infotype is defined in view V_582A_B. We can define one screen header for employee and another for applicant in view V_T588I. The header modifier selected from view V_T588I has a definition in table T588J, which finally gets shown on the screen.
    Depending on the transaction class (A = Personnel Administration, B = Recruitment) and the country grouping, a header modifier is assigned to the infotype header in the u201CHeader Modificationu201D view V_T588I.
    For example like
    Screen Header / Tr. Class / Header modifier
    00                    /        A      /  60
    In the view u201CHeader Structure per Infotypeu201D (V_582A_B), a header has been assigned to every infotype. It also determines whether the data is valid from the system date or the start date of the infotype record
    Hope this is useful.
    Regards
    RK
