Rman connect auxiliary displays wrong database

I am trying to use the new 11g duplicate from active database feature. I am running into the following error and can't figure out what is wrong.
RMAN> connect target sys/xxxxx@ebsprod
connected to target database: EBSPROD (DBID=3420264532)
RMAN> connect auxiliary sys/xxxxx@abc
connected to auxiliary database: EBSPROD (not mounted)
RMAN>
The auxiliary database shows the same DB name as the target. The correct auxiliary name is ABC in this case. The DB is started in nomount with the correct name. The new init.ora is correct as well. What is it looking at? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The correct auxiliary name is ABC in this case. The DB is started in nomount with the correct name. The new init.ora is correct as well.show us the requested db_name parameter, init.ora and tnsnames.ora
RMAN displays the value of db_name
db_unique_name and instance_name doesnt matter here

  • CONNECT AUXILIARY failing (db names confusion)

    Hello,
    For the purpose of creating Physical standby Database, I am having connect to AUXILIARY DB issue. I think I am confused between PRIMARY and STANDBY DB names. Please have a look at the configuration and suggest where  I am doing mistake.
    Thanks a lot.
    # Primary
    SQL> select name,db_unique_name from v$database;
    NAME      DB_UNIQUE_NAME
    JOHN      JOHN
    SQL> select * from global_name;
    GLOBAL_NAME
    JOHN
    TNSNAMES.ORA entries on both primary and standby looks like this:
    JOHN=
      (DESCRIPTION = - - -
    JOHN_DB2
    (DESCRIPTION = - -
    TNSPING JOHN
    TNSPING JOHN_DB2    are working fine.   e.g. from Primary when I do this it return OK (10 msec) . . .
    LISTENER.ORA on both have static entries: e.g. on AUXILIARY listener.ora:
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (GLOBAL_DBNAME = john_db2)
          (ORACLE_HOME = /oracle/app/oracle/11g)
          (SID_NAME = john)
    lsnrctl stop and start returned no errors.
    Here is the error I am concerned:  From Standby I tried to connect:
    RMAN> CONNECT TARGET sys/oracle@JOHN;
    connected to target database: JOHN (DBID=1279980307)
    RMAN> CONNECT AUXILIARY sys/oracle@JOHN_DB2;
    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================

    RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
    RMAN-04006: error from auxiliary database: ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections
    I want to select JOHN_DB2 to for Standby database (at least to differentiate between the two), but I don't know how RMAN recognises the CONNECT IDENTIFIER of the AUXILIARY DB which is not yet replicated/created?
    db_name,db_unique_name,instance_name on both are same, i.e. JOHN. I just queries v$parameter on Auxiliary.
    Please suggest.
    Best Regards

    Hi john,
    The listener.ora contents should be like below. ie both primary and standby listerner.ora should have the static entry like below
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
       (SID_LIST=
           (SID_DESC =
             (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
              (ORACLE_HOME=/opt/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1)
             (PROGRAM = extproc)
           (SID_DESC=
              (GLOBAL_DBNAME=DB01SBY1)
              (ORACLE_HOME=/opt/app/oracle/product/11.2.0/db_1)
              (SID_NAME=DB01SBY1)
    ADR_BASE_LISTENER = /opt/app/oracle
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST =<host_name>)(PORT = 1521))
    Kindly post both full listener.ora contents and tnsnames.ora contents in both primary and standby environment.
    Regards,
    Pradeep. V

    I can´t recreate my physical standby.
    It worked in the past.
    Now I reinstalled the 3 standbyclients.

    Hi ,
    I feel you are using ASM but still check the below details:
    Cause
    Production and Auxiliary have same directory structure and are running on two different machines. RMAN must be told not check that the target datafiles are sharing the same names as the duplicated files being created. Otherwise, the following errors will be returned:
    RMAN-05001: auxiliary filename /qmaxnt/u04/qmaxntorafiles/table/QMAXAD08_03.dbf
    conflicts with a file used by the target database
    RMAN-05001: auxiliary filename /qmaxnt/u04/qmaxntorafiles/table/QMAXAD08_02.dbf
    Solution
    To implement the solution, please use nofilenamecheck in syntax as follows:
    1. Connect to Target, auxiliary, and rman catalog and
    2. use script as
    run{
    set until time "to_date('2005/09/17 14:00:00','yyyy/mm/dd HH24:MI:SS')";
    allocate auxiliary channel aux1 type 'sbt_tape';
    allocate auxiliary channel aux2 type 'sbt_tape';
    duplicate target database for standby dorecover nofilenamecheck;
    Make sure to use auxiliary type of channel so RMAN restore take place at auxiliary database.
    Thanks,
    Rafi.

  • ORA-19505: failed to identify file - RMAN in creating standby DR database.

    I got this error when creating standby database at remote target server.
    ORA-19505: failed to identify file "/backup/dxp1p/online/DXP1P_CF_c-2027711285-20131204-01"
    Here is what I did:
    1.   started the listener and created corresponding tnsnames entry at remote standyb server
    2.  startup nomount to the standby database at remote server for an empty instance (instance name dxp1p).
    3.  All rman backups are in the /backup mount point at primary and the mount point is shared on the remote server as nfs.   So, whatever have in the backup we should be able to see and read from the remote as well.
    4.  Run the following at primary rman:
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    backup current controlfile for standby;
    sql 'alter system archive log current';
    crosscheck backup;
    crosscheck archivelog all;
    exit
    5.   Start the rman  command from primary after connected to the standby server, as the primary DB uses ASM and the standby DB uses file system for the database files:
    RUN
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 1 to '/u01/dxp1p/data/system01.dbf';
    SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE 2 to '/u01/dxp1p/data/sysaux01.dbf';

    I used company regular script to login to standby instance as sys user from primary DB RMAN as oracle OS user and sys DB user.   We normally run this way for years.
    Like this:

    ORA-01031: insufficient privileges
    When : SQL> connect sym/sym as SYSDBA
    Additional : init.ora remote_login_passwordfile=EXCLUSIVE or SHARED
    Cause : Username/password is not correct (if the user is added by granting

  • RMAN connectivity in windows

    Hi
    I am using Oracle 10g XE.
    Now I need to connect to RMAN.
    How could I proceed?
    I am trying to enter to sqlplus from cmd prompt rather than sql commans line short cut.
    Because to connect to rman,I need to get into OS prompt right
    Please guide me as simple as possible.

    KVB wrote:
    Thank you Atil.
    I had a few questions.Please answer in short
    I am using Oracle 10gXE.I am using RMAN.Client and server are on same system.
    Which will be the best one for backuping the database because I have to perform all the RMAN commands .
    1)Can I create a target DB in the same system itself?This question reveals a big misunderstanding right off the bat. The 'target' database is the database you want to backup. Your question implies that you think the 'target database' is something used by rman for its own purposes.
    If you are simply asking if you can have two XE databases on the same server, I'm not sure. Certainly you can with Enterprise or Standard Editions, but it seems to me that a single database, named XE, is a limitation of XE. Those that have worked with XE may correct or confirm.
    2)Can I open at a time 2 databases as RMAN backup needs the target DB should be opened.
    Absolutely rman backup needs to open the target db. That is the db it is backing up. No target DB means no reason to even run rman.
    And rman can have 3 databases open at once .. the target (being backed up), the auxiliary (a second database being cloned from the target) and the catalog db (where rman can do more bookeeping than available in the control file alone. You always have a target db; some operations inherently mean you also have an auxiliary db; a catalog is seldom if ever required but can be a very nice to have.
    I'd suggest you get a copy of http://www.amazon.com/Oracle-Backup-Recovery-Osborne-ORACLE/dp/0071628606/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1305724426&sr=1-1. The 10g version really helped me cut through some of the fog of the official reference manual.
    I am just confused over that links..
    Thats why I am solving the questions one by one.
    It's really appreciable for your answers.

    "nwm" is the name of the folder that I have copied all of my site  files to and the folder I have dreamweaver pointing to.  "wp" is what I  have all of the wordpress files in (the ones I copied from my yahoo  server - including all my current theme files etc.)
    I am trying to put the info into the mysql connection dialog box:
    Connection Name: Testing (i am assuming this name is for my benefit only and doesn't actually matter)
    MySQL Server: mysql
    User Name: *****
    Password: *****
    Database: wp
    and am getting this message
    MySQL Error#: 2013
    Lost connection to MySQL server at 'reading initial communication packet', system error 61
    did some google seaches of the error.  Tried turning off the  firewall, and the advance tab allow mysql incoming  (there were 2 one  was allow one was not allow.  I changed both to allow)
    Cant really find anything on yahoo to help me out.  Looked in  phpmyadmin database named wp: wp_users to get the username and password  (which due to previous look for help - I think the password was  encrypted cuz it looked like a bunch of mumbo jumbo and am fairly  certain I know the correct password).
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!! I spent $50 on live chat  last night trying to resolve the issue only to find out at the end that  the guy really didn't understand my problem and doesn't have  dreamweaver.  I have also watched countless videos on Lynda.com and have  been thru forum after forum.  While this problem is only a couple weeks  old since I just got CS5.  I have been having trouble making any  headway learning php since I cant seem to make it past the set up  parts.  I have done the php / mysql essential training on lynda.com with  relative success except that I really dont want to work with any more  exercise files so I didn't go on to the beyond the basics. I recently  went thru most of the Dreamweaver CS5 and Wordpress 3. Also did the  first 4 chapters of Dreamweaver CS5 with PHP and MySQL. I need to start  integrating things into my live sites.  I am also trying to work my way  thru the learning php, mysql, javascript book by o'reily media by robin  nixon (as fun as reading a math text book) can't get thru it since I  can't relate any of it to my current sites/needs
    I am on MacBookPro OSX 10.6.6
    Installed MAMP to specification on all 20 tutorials I have tried including lynda.com
    Tested the testing server and is working
    Just installed dreamweaver cs5
    have been using wordpress online to create and edit posts (recently  upgraded to 3.? whatever the latest update was online which I believe  update the files on my yahoo server?)
    Have also installed wordpress on my computer (several times thru each tutorial trying to get this right.)
    Am I expecting the impossible?

    If wordpress controls it's own connection why am I unable to use the live view. I have synced the remote site to my local computer so all the files should be just as they are online with the exception of the DB which contains most of the content.
    I have done all of those steps.  I have even exported the database from inside internet phpmyadmin and imported into computer phpmyadmin.  When I hit live view I get one of couple of errors.
    1.  "One is that the dynamic related files could not be displayed due to an internal server error"
    At some point I was able to view some sample files inside dreamweaver.  But I would like to be able to view my real site files.  I was able to "connect" to the local databases (not the copy of my real one - I think that maybe that was because it is somehow nested inside another db an am going try to reimport to new location).  And then I changed the host/username/password trying to deal with the internal server error. Now instead I get the cannot connect to the database Error 2016 or whatever from the origianl post. Also, I am using yahoo if that matters and all I can find about what their server name is: mysql - is that correct?
    I have been thru this so many times with so many different tutorials I am losing track of what is what.
    2.  Can I access my remote database within dreamweaver? I do not want to create dummy files (seems to be a waste of time).  And while if it had worked exporting/importing a duplicate on to my computer would have satisfied me for a little while it also seems some what counter productive.  Since every post and page is different if I were doing a daily updates etc how would I be able to change the formating or design of them if I can't access the remote files.  Would I re- import everytime I want to work on it to get current database?
    I am trying to be clear.  I listed all the specs I could think as listed  in your "how to get help fast post" (yes I read that at least twice  too) of all of the steps and possible reasons for my problems.  I also  thought that the forum was on a seperate site so I didn't think it would  count as a duplicate.  I am frustrated to tears and am feeling  incredibly stupid that after all this time and all these tutorials yes  you are right I obviously am not understanding what is going on which is  why I am on this forum.

  • Connecting to an Oracle database after clicking on a foi

    Does anyone know how or have any examples on how to connect to an oracle database after clicking on a 'feature of interest' in MapViewer? I want to be able to click on a 'feature of interest' on the map, and have a list of records from an oracle table displayed using the identified key of the foi. I am able to create the feature of interest, and add the event listener for 'mouse click', but am unsure how to connect to the database at this point. I have been able to connect to the database in a different jsp, but not from here. Thank you.

    1. Create a JSP page that does the database query. It should take the foi id as an input parameter.
    2. In the foi mouse click listener, display the JSP page in iframe. The iframe can be placed outside the map or inside the info window. The function should do something like this.
    function myClickListener(point, foi)
    mapview.displayInfoWindow(point, "<iframe id='my_iframe_id' frameborder=0 width=300px height=400px />", 300, 400) ;
    var myIframe = document.getElementById("my_iframe_id") ;
    myIframe.src = "http://myhost/myjsp?key=" + foi.id ;
    }

  • Error while registering RMAN from primary to catalog database

    Hi all,
    Here we have a 10g dataguard environment with db1(db_unique_name) as primary and db2(db_unique_name) as physical standby database. Also we configured one schema on a third machine as catalog database using following steps.
    The steps executed in catalog database(appsdb):
    SQL> create tablespace rmancatlog_tbs datafile '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/NEW/rman_catalog.dbf' size 500M autoextend off extent management local segment space management auto;
    SQL> create user rman identified by oracle
    2 default tablespace rmancatlog_tbs
    3 quota unlimited on rmancatlog_tbs
    4 ;
    SQL> GRANT connect, resource, recovery_catalog_owner TO rman;
    RMAN> create catalog;
    recovery catalog created
    Added tns entries of catalog database in primary and standby. Then from primary database we tried to register to catalog database. It is showing that it is registering. But every query afterwards in rman is throwing the error. Below are the steps and error:
    [oracle@db1 ~]$ rman target sys/oracle catalog rman/oracle@appsdb
