RMAN Connections To Primary DB While Creating Standby With Active Database

OS Version : AIX 6.1
DB Version : 11.2.0.1
I am creating a standby database with active database option (without any backups). When i am checking number of connections in my primary database, i can see 3 rman connections
from the standby machine. How oracle reaches to a conclusion of 3 sessions ? Is this number fix or this number can be manipulated with requirment ?

Check for the RMAN parallelism in standby database it might be set to 3.
RMAN> show all;
or
Might be you had allocated 3 channels while executing active standby database query.

Hello;
Generally for the connection to work you need to add something like this to the listener.ora file :
(SID_DESC =
(global_dbname = STANDBY.hostname)
(ORACLE_HOME = /u01/app/oracle/product/11.2.0.2)
(sid_name = STANDBY)
)You should stop and start the listener on the Standby after adding this. Also your tnsnames.ora must be correct on both the primary and the Standby.
Also you need an INIT for the Standby side :

1. New Standby start NOMOUNT on new password file. ( On Oracle 11 you must copy and rename the file from Primary server )
2. Hard coded listener on new Standby server.

First question.
Can primary and standby database have the same SID name?
As I recall it is yes.
I believe they must have different GLOBAL or DB_UNIQUE_NAME?
Anyway, RMAN I believe is telling me it is having problems copying control file on first and dies.

Hi,
Permissions Issue on STANDBY machine?First problem I see is the sysdba password must be the same on both sides (target and auxiliary dbs).
From the documentation.
The source database and auxiliary instances must use the same SYSDBA password, which means that both instances must have password files. You can
create the password file with a single password so you can start the auxiliary instance and enable the source database to connect to it.Check all prereqs for the standby db duplicate here.

I haven't seen the ora-03116 problem.
What version of Portal are you running? Are the databases at the same version? Does your table have longs or anything strange in it?
Can you query the table via the synonyms and link in sqlplus as the application schema? This is a good test because it eliminates Portal.
You should try setting up synonyms etc for the emp table. If you still get the problem then Oracle may be able to replicate it. If not, then there's sth funny about your table maybe.
I agree with Vishnu about creating everything in sqlplus. I create all my links and synonyms in sqlplus. They are all public. I have 2 synonyms: one takes you over the link the other takes you to the right schema. It's flexible and it works.
data database: D grants to P (local schema) on table T
public syn T = D.T (sys) (get the right schema)
portal dbase : public db link to data database connecting as P
public syn T = T@dblink (sys) (over the link)
P is a schema created in both databases.
Test is: P in portal dbase can "select * from T" and gets the right data.
I never, ever refer to a schema when defining a form. ie. never P.T or D.T or whatever. I always refer simply to a synonym. For the above my form would be defined simply on the table T.
Hope this helps

Hi Nicloei,
Thanks for the reply. Actually i don't want any work around (Creating MVLOG on table rather than synonym is fine with me) . I just wanted to know it is actually an oracle bug or something else.

• Check while creating PR with account assignment K

Hi Gurus,
Can I put a check while creating PRs for account assignment category K, that only statistical order number range is allowed.
In other words, user should not be allowed to put any internal order other than statistical order in PR, while creating it with account assignment category K..
Thanks in Advance,
Vikash

Hi,
You can check on business transaction RMBA - it's the purchase requisition. Set it to prerequisites and for the validation select the order type (it's better than a number range - I believe you use different order types for real/statistical I/O) from AUFK (you will see this structure as available, when creating a validation). If you do use the same order type, then check on I/O itself COBL-AUFNR.

• Problem while creating xml with cdata section

Hi,
I am facing problem while creating xml with cdata section in it. I am using Oracle 10.1.0.4.0 I am writing a stored procedure which accepts a set of input parameters and creates a xml document from them. The code snippet is as follows:
select xmlelement("DOCUMENTS",
xmlagg
(xmlelement
("DOCUMENT",
xmlforest
(m.document_name_txt as "DOCUMENT_NAME_TXT",
m.document_type_cd as "DOCUMENT_TYPE_CD",
'<![cdata[' || m.document_clob_data || '' as "DOCUMENT_CLOB_DATA"
) from table(cast(msg_clob_data_arr as DOCUMENT_CLOB_TBL))m;
msg_clob_data_arr is an input parameter to procedure and DOCUMENT_CLOB_TBL is a pl/sql table of an object containing 3 attributes: first 2 being varchar2 and the 3rd one as CLOB. The xml document this query is generating is as follows:
<DOCUMENTS>
<DOCUMENT>
<DOCUMENT_NAME_TXT>TestName</DOCUMENT_NAME_TXT>
<DOCUMENT_TYPE_CD>BLOB</DOCUMENT_TYPE_CD>
<DOCUMENT_CLOB_DATA>

</DOCUMENT_CLOB_DATA>
</DOCUMENT>
</DOCUMENTS>
The problem is instead of <![cdata[.... xmlforest query is encoding everything to give < for cdata tag. How can I overcome this? Please help.

• Standby from active database

Hello,
I am attempting to create a physical standby database, following this guide:
http://www.oracle.com/global/uk/education/downloads/uwe_data_guard.pdf
as well as the oracle documentation on Data Guard. Using Oracle 11gR2 patched at #7 running on Windows Server 2008.
I've set all the parameters, created password files and checked connectivity. Hopefully correctly. I will post pfile exports at the end.
Here is where I hit a dead end.
RMAN> connect target system/password@HPROD89
connected to target database : HPROD89 (DBID)
RMAN> connect auxiliary sys/password@HPROD89STND
connected to auxiliary database: HPROD89STND (not mounted)
RMAN> duplicate target database for standby from active database;Error from spool. I need to spool the file to get the error code, otherwise the only thing rman provides is a "error message stack follows" message with nothing after that.
RMAN-03002: failure of Duplicate Db command at 11/19/2010 21:24:04
RMAN-06136: ORACLE error from auxiliary database: ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLEI'm running rman on the standby server with the database in NOMOUNT as the guide linked above suggests. This raises a simple question to start with: what server do I run rman on? The one with the primary database, or on the standby?
I hope it's just because it's getting late, but this issue has me confused .. rman clearly connects the auxiliary, but when trying to perform the actual duplication, it's not connected.
Thanks for input.
Regards.

• Error while creating standby database for ebs prod database

Hi,
We are getting error while trying to create a standby database for EBS database by using RMAN DUPLICATE commands,
Steps followed:
1.) Backup the primary database (Ebs PROD db). This was done on 12-Mar-2012
***RMAN backups are scheduled to run @10:00 pm every night. Flash Recovery Area has been configured and backup is taken at this location
everyday.
2.) Tar the backupset, autobackup, archivelogs etc in FRA .... and copy this to the target server (STANDBY).
*** Copy(oracle rdbms binaries and FRA) completed @12:00AM on 14-Mar-2012
3.) Tried to create standby database by using RMAN duplicate on 14-Mar-2012
RMAN> rman sys/sys@PROD auxiliary /
RMAN> duplicate target database for standby dorecover nofilenamecheck;
After, some time the RMAN DUPLICATE process errors out with,
ORA-19563: header validation failed for file
We are not sure about the cause of this error. While searching in Metalink, we got several notes (ex, 352074.1) but all the causes stated for this error
are not applicable in our case. We double checked our instance to confirm this.
We have also found that in PROD database there are 65 datafiles and after the RMAN DUPLICATE errors out in the targer server (STANDBY) the RMAN managed to restore 51 datafiles before erroring out.
# Please note PROD database was also backed up on 13-Mar-2012. We have a suspicion that backup on 13-Mar may be a possible cause for this error but we are
not sure.
Need suggestions if there can be any other possible causes???
We are in a fix and it would be appreciable if we get some quick suggestions..
Regards,
Rupdipt

When opening the file to be placed in a copy or backup set, to be inspected, or used as the target for an incremental restore, its header was not recognized as a valid file header for a file of the indicated type (data file, archived log, or control file) belonging to the current database.
Kindly Ensure that the correct files are being specified for the copy or backup operation.

• Updating Primary key while creating entries

Hi All,
I have a requirement to update a primary key while the entry is being created in the database table.
The program uses the INSERT statement to create entries but the primary key is unknown at that time. I want to create this primary key value and update that record before being saved in the database.
Is there a place where i can write this code which gets called while INSERT/UPDATE statements.
Request you urgent help.
Thanks in advance

Hello Archana,
As per my understanding providing BADI implementation is one of the better options you have.
Firstly you have to find out the standard BADI Definition provided by SAP for your functionality. You can search the same in the transaction SE18.
Your BADI definition will have predefined interface methods
(like BEFORE_SAVE, AFTER_SAVE, BEFORE_UPDATE, AFTER_UPDATE ... )
with necessary parameters(parameter types: IMPORTING/EXPORTING/CHANGING/RETURNING). Mind you, you can't add your own methods/parameters to these standard BADI definitions.
Now you can create your own BADI implementation(ie., you can write you code in the one of the predefined methods you have) for the standard BADI definition. For that in your BADI Definition screen go to Implementation in Menu bar and click on Create.
I hope you will definitely have Primary Key as importing parameter so you can write your code logic by using this primary key in one of the methods you have based on your requirement
@ Please take Backend expert help in your team for finding out BADI Definition Name & for also BADI Implementation Code if you are not sure about BADI concept.
I hope this answers your question, If YES, !!! REWARD POINTS !!!
