RMAN exit codes descriptions

On top of RMAN error codes RMAN will return a non-zero OS exit code when it encounters an error. Can anyone point me to a document/thread/etc that would explain the meaning of each of these codes? (An "OS exit code" vs. "RMAN error" mapping perhaps...?)

You can check the exit status of the script and if it is non-zero you can query V$RMAN_OUTPUT and/or any log file that you generate.

  • RMAN exited with return code '3' ?

    I get message bellow while oracle backup to the tape.
    (2960) Launching backup process
    (2960) Backup process failed: RMAN exited with return code '3'.
    (2960) nwora_nsrnmostart_rman: RMAN script execution is not successful. RMAN exited with return code '3'.
    There is no description for the code '3'. I think it is networker license problem but i am not sure.
    Any advice ?

    Thank you,
    yes i am. I have 10 clients and they are working fine.
    I think problem is that i have just one license of oracle module for windows. Another windows client is set and working. I can't find any documentation related to error code '3'.
    a test rman script is very simple:
    connect target sys/*****
    connect rcvcat rman/***@vas
    run {
    allocate channel d1 type 'sbt_tape';
    release channel d1;
    I get no errors in rman. It just stops at allocate channel d1 type 'sbt_tape';
    error is stored in NSR log file.

  • ORA-27369:job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code + rman???

    Hi all,
    I was trying to execute job from 10G (10.2.01) Enterprise Manager Database Control, and got error below
    ORA-27369:job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: Network is down STANDARD_ERROR="/home/oracle/scripts/backup/backupset_full:rman: command not found"
    Here is the file contents of backupset_full
    #!usr/bin/bash
    rman <<EOF
    connect catalog rman/rman@catrcv
    connect target sys/sys@test
    run{
    EXECUTE SCRIPT global_backup_full;
    quit
    EOF
    Here is the file content of global_backup_full script
    CREATE SCRIPT global_backup_full

    allocate channel d1 device type DISK;
    backup as compressed backupset database;
    release channel d1;
    NOTE: I am running on bash shell environment.
    THANK YOU VERY MUCH in advance.
    Rich,

    You need to set ORACLE_HOME inside backupset_full script and possibly change rman to $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman
    #!usr/bin/bash
    export ORACLE_HOME=<your_oracle_home _directory>
    $ORACLE_HOME/bin/rman <<EOF
    connect catalog rman/rman@catrcv
    connect target sys/sys@test
    run{
    EXECUTE SCRIPT global_backup_full;
    quit
    EOF
    Here is the file content of global_backup_full script
    CREATE SCRIPT global_backup_full
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    allocate channel d1 device type DISK;
    backup as compressed backupset database;
    release channel d1;
    }

  • System Update 5.06 won't install: MCSDKSetupRed.exe Process exit code: 1157

    Win 7 x64 on Thinkpad W510.  Original OS install from 2 years ago with multiple updates.  Most recently, System Update 5.05.  Manually downloaded and tried to install 5.06. Failed to uninstall old version, so I did a manual uninstall (deleted directories and searched all entries in registry and deleted).  Now 5.06 no longer stalls at uninstall of ver 5.05, but fails to complete the install of 5.06 with the log entry

    Hi,
    What follows is guesswork on my part...
    That 1157 error code translates to:
    One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.
    On the TVSU 5.06 page (here) under software requrements I see:
    Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1 with Service pack 1 or Microsoft .NET Framework version 2.0 is required for System Update to work Correctly. Use Microsoft Windows Update to ensure that Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 or 2.0 is installed on your system.
    Do you have an appropriate .NET installed?

  • Job scheduling error : The return value was unknown. The process exit code was -1073741819. The step failed.

    I am working in Sqlserver 2008 R2, SSIS 64 bit version
    I am getting the below  error while scheduling the job in the development server  Database.
    The return value was unknown.  The process exit code was -1073741819.  The step failed.
    The SSIS front end execution runs fine.
    Have anyone  faced this issue before?

    Hi Venkat,
    If you already changed to 64bit and still doesn't work then create proxy account..
    To create a proxy account
    In Object Explorer, expand a server.
    Expand SQL Server Agent.
    Right-click Proxies and select New Proxy.
    On the General page of the New Proxy Account dialog, specify the proxy name, credential name, and
    description for the new proxy. Note that you must create a credential first before you create a proxy if one is not already available. For more information about creating a credential, see How
    to: Create a Credential (SQL Server Management Studio) or CREATE CREDENTIAL (Transact-SQL).
    Check the appropriate subsystem for this proxy.
    On the Principals page, add or remove logins or roles to grant or remove access to the proxy account.
    Thanks

  • SSIS package fails in sql server agent wirh 'Process exit code "-532459699" runs fine when run independantly

    I have a SSIS package that fails when running via sql server agent.  I can successfully run it from BIDS.    I have created a proxy account that is in the local server administrators group and is sysadmin.  SQL Server Agent and SQL
    Server Integration Services  are running under the same account,
    following the the error message:
    Error: 2014-02-07 10:29:12.59
       Code: 0xC0029151
       Source: Execute De-linking Execute Process Task
       Description: In Executing "d:\cie\files\working\9426\PowerpointConsole.exe" " 60.ppt" at "d:\cie\files\working\9426", The process exit code was "-532459699" while the expected was "0".
    End Error
    This package ran successfully on a different server running windows 2003 and sql server 2008 r2.  The new environment is windows 7 with sql server 2008 r2.

    Hi Gaileg,
    As Abhinav said, to check whether it is a 32-bit/64-bit issue, please check whether the package runs in 32-bit runtime mode or 64-bit runtime mode in BIDS by checking the Run64bitRuntime property of the project. Then, make sure the package runs in the same
    runtime mode in the SQL Server Agent job by checking or unchecking the “Use 32 bit runtime” option for the Execution options of the job step.
    If it is not the issue, please create another job that uses a CmdExec type job step to call the executable “D:\cie\files\working\9426\PowerpointConsole.exe”. If this job also fails, the issue is actually occurs because of the issue between executable and
    SQL Server Agent rather than the SSIS package itself.

    Hi,
    Thanks for the update. Glad to know your issue is resolved.
    If you look at the log file SqlSupport_KatmaiRTM_Cpu64_1.log.txt, you will find this error
    MSI (s) (64:94) [18:39:14:853]: Note: 1: 2203 2: D:\SoftBank\SlipStream\SQL2008R2\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\sql2008support\SqlSupport.msi 3: -2147287037
    The exact error no. i.e. -2147287037.
    Convert this error no. using a tool (Err.exe)
    D:\Err>Err.EXE -2147287037
    # for decimal -2147287037 / hex 0x80030003 :
      STG_E_PATHNOTFOUND
    oledberr.h
      STG_E_PATHNOTFOUND
    winerror.h
    # The path %1 could not be found.
    -2147287037 = The path %1 could not be found. Which means the msi file path D:\SoftBank\SlipStream\SQL2008R2\1033_ENU_LP\x64\setup\sql2008support\SqlSupport.msi doesn't exist.

  • Slapd Exited with Exit code: 1 main: TLS init def ctx failed: -1 Open LDAP

    After enabling the SSL in the Server Admin panel under Open Directory / LDAP My openLDAP will not start. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated!
    Every 10 seconds the log file updates with:
    Jan 31 21:48:26: --- last message repeated 4 times ---
    Jan 31 21:48:26 home slapd[1338]: main: TLS init def ctx failed: -1

    and in the console log:

    I've tried to disable SSL to see if that helps, but, it seems as though even if I uncheck the use SSL box the slapd still will not start. I have also tried editing the ldap.conf and commenting out the

    So I did a bit more work on this and came up with the following to disabled SSL and get slapd running again:
    1) sudo emacs /etc/openldap/slapd_macosxserver.conf; comment out the following lines for the following parameters: TLSCertificateFile, TLSCertificateKeyFile, and TLSCertificatePassphraseTool
    2) sudo emacs '/etc/openldap/slapd.d/cn=config.ldif'; comment out the lines for the following attributes: olcTLSCertificateFile, olcTLSCertificateKeyFile, olcTLSCertificatePassphraseTool
    slapd started up just fine for me after this. This looks a lot like a bug. I'm not sure what the story is on the underlying issue, so I've filed a bug on ADC. I'll let you know what I hear.

  • ORA-27369: job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: No such file or directory

    Hi,
    I am using the scheduler to take backup of the dev database and it was working fine. Then I added notification to the scripts and then the scheduler started failing with the following code .
    BEGIN dbms_scheduler.run_job('BACKUP_DEV'); END;
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-27369: job of type EXECUTABLE failed with exit code: No such file or
    directory

    ORA-06512: at "SYS.DBMS_SCHEDULER", line 441
    ORA-06512: at line 1
    Here' the original which has no issues
    #!/bin/bash -x
    echo $@
    if [ -z "$ORACLE_HOME" ]; then
    source /path/oracle/.bash_profile
    fi
    RMAN="${ORACLE_HOME}/bin/rman";
    ${RMAN} $@
    exit $?
    And here's the one which gives me the errors. Also if I run this script from command line it works perfectly fine
    #!/bin/bash -x
    echo $@
    if [ -z "$ORACLE_HOME" ]; then
    source /path/oracle/.bash_profile

    /usr/bin/mailx -s "Backup status of $ORACLE_SID " [email protected] < temp_log
    /usr/bin/rm temp_log
    exit $?
    Pls let me know what could be the reason that the script fails with the scheduler.

  • Is it possible to catch a PowerShell script output when an exit code is setted?

    Hi,
    i'm using TEO 2.1.2 with the hotfixes from 1 to 12 already installed and i have a problem using the "Execute Windows PowerShell Script" in reading the output of a PowerShell script if an exit code is expressly setted . For example if i try to execute a script like:
    the output given by the activity is only 0 (like the exit code).
    This is a problem if i use a script with multiple exit codes corrisponding to different kind of situations and different outputs like the following:
    if($flag -eq "0")
       Write-output "Hello"
       exit 0
    elseif ($flag -eq "1")
       Write-output "Error 1"
       exit 1
    else
      Write-output "Error 2"
      exit 2
    or if i call an executable which exit codes i want to identify by a readable description.
    Anyone knows a way to solve this issue?
    Thanks a lot,
    bye.
    Giulio

    Thanks Shaun,
    i was already looking toward this kind of approch, but i was also curious if there was a different way of doing this.
    Anyway just a little annotation about your line of code, in Tidal 2.1.2 at least, Write-host doesn't work right, echo or Write-Output are fine but Write-host seems to be ignored. To the following script:
    the output is
    Maybe i'm missing something. Regarding an upgrade, as a devoloper i'd really like to try the improvement of the new version but this is not a decision I can make.
    Thank you,
    bye.
