  • RMI Marshalling Problem:  weblogic.Admin PING

    WebLogic 5.1.0 with service pack 8 has been installed on a HPUX server. I'm

    Anyone have any idea what going on in this situation?

    Can you test with sp8 installed on your NT machine too ? And also make
    sure you set the classpath with the sp8 jar files on NT before you run

  • Rmi marshalling error after servicegen

    I am implementing a service using EJB (Sessions + CMP entities). Clients will access
    this service via rmi/t3, CORBA/iiop or via SOAP.
    I am generating the Webservices layer using the servicegen ant task.
    However, when I try to access my deployed service using rmi/t3, I get the following
    exception:
    There was a RemoteException .java.rmi.UnmarshalException: error unmarshalling arguments;
    nested exception is:
         java.io.InvalidClassException: com.x.BondSearchFilterDTO; Local class not compatible:
    stream classdesc serialVersionUID=-7233317835783801493 local class serialVersionUID=-5293624757153343350
    I should be able to simultaneously access my EJB's via SOAP and rmi, no?
    (see below for full stack trace + ant task)

    [fullStackTracePlusAntTask.zip]

    Hmmm... seems like it was a transient thing. After an appserver restart and an "applications"
    directory clean, the problem seems to have vanished.
    Thanks for your help.

    Is your webservice client package name same as your ejb's package name?
    Try not to use the same package name. If this is not helping try not to
    generate
    client within servicegen. You can use clientgen by passing in the wsdl file.
    I suspect your original class is overwritten while generating the web
    service
    client.

  • WebLogic RMI security

    Hello,
    I'm planning to create some client-server applications using the WebLogic
    RMI implementation but I'm a little bit worried about the security issues
    that can be raised.
    Basically, I don't know whether or not WebLogic provides dynamic class
    loading (RMIClassLoader). If so, how to prevent this to happen, since I want
    to make it sure that no hostile client will be able to hack my application
    in that it will download some classes that will mess with my data.
    Anybody has any comments on that?
    Thanks in advance for any help.
    Andre Mendonca
    [email protected]

    Just to make things clearer, this is the RMI specification from Javasoft
    (very interesting, by the way):
    "When parameters and return values for a remote method invocation are
    unmarshalled to become live objects in the receiving JVM, class definitions
    are required for all of the types of objects in the stream. The
    unmarshalling process first attempts to resolve classes by name in its local
    class loading context (the context class loader of the current thread). RMI
    also provides a facility for dynamically loading the class definitions for
    the actual types of objects passed as parameters and return values for
    remote method invocations from network locations specified by the
    transmitting endpoint. This includes the dynamic downloading of remote stub
    classes corresponding to particular remote object implementation classes
    (and used to contain remote references) as well as any other type that is
    passed by value in RMI calls, such as the subclass of a declared parameter
    type, that is not already available in the class loading context of the
    unmarshalling side."
    My question is: If a client invokes a method in the object residing in the
    weblogic server, passing as a parameter an object that the server doesn't
    know, will weblogic try to download the class from the client location?
    Continuing: later in the specification, one can read:
    "For every class descriptor read from an RMI marshal stream, the
    resolveClass method reads a single object from the stream. If the object is
    a String (and the value of the java.rmi.server.useCodebaseOnly property is
    not true), then resolveClass returns the result of calling
    RMIClassLoader.loadClass with the annotated String object as the first
    parameter and the name of the desired class in the class descriptor as the
    second parameter. Otherwise, resolveClass returns the result of calling
    RMIClassLoader.loadClass with the name of the desired class as the only
    parameter."
    So, can I set this property to false in the StartWebLogic.cmd file and
    expect weblogic not to download any unknown code? Will weblogic classloader
    understand it? What's the default behavior of weblogic server?
    By the way, I'm using WLS 4.5.1, in a windows NT environment.
    Thanks in advance.

  • JBoss Can't find Oracle Driver

    Hello, everyone,
    I'm hoping someone can help me.
    I've created a small web service. I have one method which returns something very straight forward, and it works fine.
    I have then progressed this to try to return some data from an Oracle table.
    However, when I try to do this, I get an error back saying that the Oracle Driver can not be found.
    I am using JBoss, and am running this in Eclipse's Web Service Explorer.
    The things I have tried to solve the issue are:
    - Ensuring the Oracle driver is located in Windows>Preferences>General>Data Management>Connectivity>Driver Definitions
    - Placing the Oracle driver jar in as many lib folders in my JBoss directory on my C drive as possible (I may have missed some out).
    I am not sure what else to try. Please can someone help me or point me in the right direction?
    Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thank you very much in advance.

    You have to put the path of the driver jar file on server.xml file. If you open up the server.xml file inside the config directory of the appserver instance you will find all the paths are added to <java-config java-home = tag. So place the path in this place. Then there should not be any problem getting the driver.

  • RPC web service session beans and local interfaces

    I am wondering if it is possible to use EJB 2.0's local
    interface (vs remote interface) with 6.1's RPC web service

    invokes the RPC session bean and I do not find

    I was just about to post the very same question - but for WLS 7.0.0.1.
    There are essentially two questions:
    1) (from a functional perspective)
    Can I expose Local Interfaces as SOAP using the auto-generation(servicegen ant
    tasks)?Local Interfaces support is coming.
    2) (from a performance perspective)
    Does the generated SOAP implementation go via the (expensive) RemoteInterface
    (ie marshalling) - or is the RMI marshalling optimised out (by setting<enable-call-by-reference>true</>)?
    You can set this option by yourself on your EJB. Web service runtime
    doesn't
    do any magic in this area.

  • Codebase classes loading on their own?

    I have been tracking down a performance issue. So I am tracing the classes loaded by my clients VM. I have a class defined like so
    public final class GraphicFactory implements IGraphicFactory, Serializable{
         private static final long serialVersionUID = 1L;
         public IDSComponentInstance createComponentInstance(Point location, Dimension size){
            if (location == null || size == null) {
                throw new NullPointerException();
            return new DBComponentInstance(location,size);
        public IDSFunctionConnection createFunctionConnection(Point sourceLocation, Point targetLocation) {
            if(sourceLocation == null || targetLocation == null){
                throw new NullPointerException();
            return new DBFunctionConnection(sourceLocation,targetLocation);
    }I want to pass this class to the client. So the client calls a method, and this class is returned. When that happens, the client immediately loads this class via the codebase. The thing I can not see is when the client loads the "DBFunctionConnection" and "DBComponentInstance" classes. These classes are also in jar files which can be found by the codebase. Obviously the client is getting them because its working. And they are definitely coming from the server. But I do not see any log of them being loaded.
    Its like they get loaded in secret. I bet they do too. I think classes loaded as a result of another class loading are not logged.
    But at the same time, I thought a class would not be loaded until it is needed!? If its loading it right away, then this is a good thing because otherwise the RMI system could throw an exception at a most unusual place when the class gets loaded because a method is called.
    I can't quite figure out what is happening here :(

    I guess RMI classloader is just different.
    From testing I can see that when the main class is
    marshalled it seems as if the classes it contains are
    also marshalled.RMIClassLoader is little more than a URLClassLoader. Classes are neither marshalled nor unmarshalled in RMI, they are loaded via the codebase mechanism, using whatever WEB or other protocol you define in the codebase URL.
    The log is not telling me when classes are loaded,So you're logging the wrong thing?
    So I am still stuck having a hard time knowing when
    the RMI is transferring classes.RMI isn't transferring classes. The RMIClassLoader is transferring classes in response to class-loading requirements. This is completely separate from RMI marshalling. It is more strongly associated with RMI unmarshalling but these are still distinct operations.

  • Separation of WebService & Enterprise Java Beans on two different Machines

    All,
    Have anybody been able to separate the webservices and the ejb's into two weblogic
    servers. To be precise, I want to invoke a web service and the web service should
    be able to talk to the weblogic server a different one than that is hosting the
    webservice to execute the ejb methods.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    --Pratap

    Rob, thanks for your input. theoretically,
    i agree with you. but using a pure web server
    to pick up web services request nicely fits
    the already widely accepted web-tier/ejb-tier
    design and implementation.
    could you please take a look at my message
    184 Help needed in web service example - "david zhang" , 10 Dec 2001
    i really need some help on that. thanks in advance.

    Rob Woollen <[email protected]> wrote:
    There's pros and cons to both approaches.
    The reasons that I generally recommend co-location are:
    1) Much better performance -- We can optimize the web/web service -->
    EJB call to be a direct method call. If they are in separate
    processes/machines, you will need to go through rmi marshalling and
    unmarshalling of the data and send your requests over a network connection.
    2) one less remote programming error case to handle -- Anytime that you
    make a remote call, you need to handle a set of error cases that do not
    occur with in-process calls. Failures during marshalling, sending the
    request, during the response etc. Distributed programming is hard.
    I would avoid it whenever possible.

    maybe i have the same thoughts as Pratap has.
    i notice that this is actually a difference
    between Apache SOAP implmentation and Weblogic
    web service implementation. In the Apache's
    implementation, a pure WEB server with a servlet
    engine is able to pick up a service request.
    if the request handler needs to use an EJB running on
    another application server, it just call it.
    so with apache implementation, i can put all EJBs
    on one application server. with weblogic's implementation,
    there has to be an APPLICATION server up front to
    to pick up a web service. sounds like an overkill or
    in elegant design. actually, Sun blueprints has an article
    "Initial Thoughts on Web Services", and it is my understanding
    that a web tier should pick up a web service.
    Rob, please give us the magic:-)

    I have problems to access the managed server through weblogic.admin while the idleThreadCount of the "Default Queue" is 0. It works fine when is not 0, but I suppose that when the "Queue Lenth" is larger than 100 and the IdleThreads are 0 I can't connect to the maneged cause it don't accept new requests.
    This commando works fine when the managed is ok:
    java weblogic.Admin -url t3://managed:port -username user-password pass GET -type ExecuteQueueRuntime -property ExecuteThreadCurrentIdleCount
    I was looking for a way to do this through de admin server, but I can't find nothing to get the queue status of other managed, or how to force or stablish priority to the conection so I can perform a DUMP to know where is the problem.

  • How to get Oracle Coherence caching running within CQ5

    I've been trying to get Oracle Coherence running within CQ5 and I'm having problems with the setup.  First, I've been successful in creating an OSGi bundle jar from coherence.jar and it does deploy successfully through the Felix OSGi console.  But when I try to execute code using the Coherence classes, I get RMI marshalling run-time errors.  I've resolved the other run-time errors that have to do with the Import-Package definition in manifest.mf for the bundle.  I believe that the root problem that I'm facing is the deployment of the files tangosol-coherence-override.xml and the additional xml file that it points to.  I don't believe that these two files are being found within CQ5 correctly.  I've tried placing these files in the following locations:
    1.  Within coherence.jar itself (at the root directory)
    2.  In the CQ5 application's install folder
    3.  In the CQ5 application's src/main/resources folder
    Has anyone ever deployed Oracle Coherence in CQ5 or can give me a suggestion on what to try?  I appreciate any help or ideas.
    Thanks!  - Charlie

    There are 3 options which is described below. The steps may slightly vary based on cq & Oracle Coherence version. The details mentioned below are for cq5.4 & Coherence 3.7.1
    Option 1:-  Oracle recommended way
    *     Create a basic Web application directory
    /Sample.jsp
    /WEB-INF/web.xml
    /WEB-INF/classes/tangosol-coherence-override.xml
    /WEB-INF/lib/coherence.jar
    *     jar -cvf hello.war *
    *     Deploy the hello.war file by going to cq servlet engine at http://<host>:<port>/admin
    *     Access your sample with http://<host>:<port>/<contextroot>/Sample.jsp
    Option 2:-  Combination of Option 1 & Option 3
    *      Stop the cq
    *      Place coherence.jar at <CQ_Install_Dir>/crx-quickstart/server/runtime/0/_/WEB-INF/lib/
    *      Place tangosol-coherence-override.xml and all additional xml files at <CQ_Install_Dir>/crx-quickstart/server/runtime/0/_/WEB-INF/classes/
    *      Modify <CQ_Install_Dir>/crx-quickstart/launchpad/sling.properties to add below properties
    sling.bootdelegation.com.tangosol.net.cache=com.tangosol.net.cache
    sling.bootdelegation.com.tangosol.net=com.tangosol.net
    sling.bootdelegation.com.tangosol.util=com.tangosol.util
    *       Start the cq
    *       Verify jsp script etc... by putting into cache.. Same thing like
            <%
                String key = "k2";
                String value = "Hello World from cq!";
    ClassLoader oldLoader = Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader();
    ClassLoader newLoader = com.tangosol.net.CacheFactory.class.getClassLoader();
    Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(newLoader);
                CacheFactory.ensureCluster();
                NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.getCache("hello-example");
                cache.put(key, value);
                out.println((String)cache.get(key));
                CacheFactory.shutdown();
    Thread.currentThread().setContextClassLoader(oldLoader);
             %>
    Option 3 :-   The one you are trying by creating an OSGi bundle jar from coherence.jar & prefeerd approach also. I haven't tried this approach but just throughing some thaughts.
    *    From some of oracle seminors I remembered oracle had a plans to have OSGi jar for Coherence. Try to get that instead of building the one ourself.
    *    If it is not available then Looking at your problem as a workaround i can think of is try with putting the XML file in the repository  & load xml in java class something like as
    getClass().getClassLoader().getResourceAsStream("tangosol-coherence-override.xml")

  • Marshalling in Rmi

    Before data/object are to be transmitted it has to be marshalled,Where and who does the marshalling|?
    I am new to JAVA please help me out

    RMI does the marshalling for you. All you have to do is call the remote method and make sure the objects you pass and return are serializable.

  • Question about argument marshalling with RMI.

    Hello guys,
    I recently started an RMI-related project and successfully implemented this technology, but at some point I created this interface on the server
    package xyz;
    import somePackage.SomeClass ;
    public interface A extends Remote{
    public void methodA( SomeClass x ) throws RemoteEx; //SomeClass is implementing interface A
    and exported it to the RemoteReg folowing standard RMI procedure.
    The problem came when i tried to pass a instance of SomeClass to methodA from the corresponding object retrived from the registry, got myself a nice
    java.rmi.MarshalException: error marshalling arguments; nested exception is:
         java.io.NotSerializableException: somePackage.SomeClass
    The question is: can't RMI pass arguments as shown previously or it's my implementation faulty?
    //ofc i could send the vars needed and create the SomeClass instance on the server but maybe it can be done this way too.

    Well the .class on the client implemented Serialize, while the .class from the server didn't(this being the only difference).So in other words 'yes, I had different versions of the .class file at the server and the client'.
    So in theory they might get different serialVersionsUID due to this discrepancyNo, in theory one of them isn't Serializable, so either the sender or the receiver is going to throw an exception of some kind.
    You have to deploy the same .class file at both ends (until you get into Versioning), and they certainly both have to implement Serializable. They also both have to have the same serialVersionUID, which you should hard-code into the class now.

    Looks like you're trying to serialize a class that's not serializable,
    probably by returning it (or a class that has a relation to it) from an EJB.Very strange. My classes where autogenerated using the reverse mapping
    tool and weren't serializable. I'm sure I once did make them serializable
    and I got more error messages. I just tried again and everything was fine.
    Hmmm... Must be going mad.

  • Using Applets and RMI on WL6 - Error marshaling transport header; nested exception is:  - java.io.EOFException

    I have a project that I am porting from WL5.1 to WL6. It was working fine
    in WL5.1
    but cannot get it working in WL6. So, I went back to the HelloWorld
    example to
    see if I could get it working. The problem I am having is basically getting
    applet to
    talk to a server via RMI. The applet works fine alone and RMI works fine
    alone.
    I can't get the applet to talk to the server via RMI.
    I am trying to get the "HelloWorld" applet example in WL6 working with RMI.
    I previously had the same app working in WL5.1 with SP9 but cannot get it
    working in WL6.
    I am running WebLogic Server 6.0 with SP2.
    I have registered a startup class in the WebLogic console
    named "HelloServer". When starting up the server, it states
    that the HelloImpl class has been registered as "HelloServer".
    When starting up the client applet I get the following error:
    java.rmi.MarshalException: Error marshaling transport header; nested
    exception is:
    java.io.EOFException
    These are two different methods of looking up the same object.
    The exception occurs at the "lookup" method call in both cases.
    "myserver" is the name of my machine that WL is running on.
    7001 is the port that WL is using.
    Registry reg = LocateRegistry.getRegistry("myserver", 7001);
    obj = (Hello)reg.lookup("HelloServer");
    or...
    obj = (Hello)weblogic.rmi.Naming.lookup("rmi://" +
    getCodeBase().getHost() + ':' + port + "/HelloServer");
    I previously ran this same program under WL5.1 SP9 and everything works
    fine.
    I defined the startupClass in the weblogic.properties file in WL5.1
    Can anyone tell my what is causing this exception and how to correct the
    problem?
    Thanks

    these methods for looking up RMI objects - you should use JNDI instead.
