RMI Server Class path issue

hi ,
i am facing classpath issue when try to run rmi server. i have a jar file
(RmiServer.jar) for rmi server , which contain some other jar file .
when i run this jar file it throws ClassNotFoundException
the java classloader are not able to load class from jar(RmiServer.jar)
file. pls. tell me what i did wrong .

Actully you dont understand my problem.
i have 2 jar file RmiClient.jar and RmiServer.jar
when i run RMIserver.jar it throws following exception.
Caused by: java.rmi.UnmarshalException: error unmarshalling arguments; nested exception is:
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: RmiServer_Stub
the RmiServer.jar contain all the class file (stub/skelton,remote,etc) whichever needed.
even i set class path to that folder where RMIserver.jar is placed
inspite of that it throws ClassNotFoundException : RmiServer_Stub
i dont undersatand why classloder , not able to load class file from Rmiserver.jar.
any idea.

Hi,
do you deploy the Spring classes with the application ? I suggest to try the OracleAs forum as well to ensure this has to be in a specific path to be loaded. A list of forums is available from here

Possible 'Class Path' Issues

Hi Guys,
I have problems compiling a file and I suspect it could be something related to classpaths. I am using NetBeans 6.9.1 as my IDE. When I set JDK 1.6 as my platform and complile, there are no issues, the programs compiles fine.
My 'classpath' and 'path' are as follows:
classpath:
.;C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\lib\ext.;c:\java\classes;
path:
\....\....\....C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_21\
If I were to set the JDK as in 1.5, I seem to get the follwing error:
' cannot access org.red5.server.api.IScope
bad class file: C:\Program
Files\Red5\red5.jar(org/red5/server/api/IScope.class)
class file has wrong version 50.0, should be 49.0
Please remove or make sure it appears in the correct subdirectory of the classpath.

To rectify the problem I maded changes to my classpath and path, and yet the problem persists. The changes I made
are as follows:

he wants to use JDK 1.5.Do read the thread before you post. He is* using JDK 1.5 when he gets the error message. He said so. This is the problem.* Not the solution. When he uses 1.6 he doesn't get the error.
His environment is a bit messed up because he has PATH entries for both JDK versions.There is precisely zero evidence for that assertion.
If he wants to compile and test with JDK 1.5, then removing 1.6 would make sense.No it wouldn't. He is using classes compiled for 1.6 with a 1.5 compiler. His problem is with red5.jar(org/red5/server/api/IScope.class) whose class version is 50.0. It's all written there above. If he wants to use that .jar file he has to use 1.6. Or else recompile that .jar file with 1.5, if he has the sources.

Domain/lib class path issues

We are migrating one of our applications from Web Logic 8.1 to 10. The new instance is going to have 2 managed servers, under the web logic domain, hosting the server EAR as well as web WAR respectively. Now the application has certain jars that need to be available for the startup classes in both these modules. As Web Logic provides a feature to place the jars in the domain/lib so they are visible to both the applications, we have included the jars in the domain/lib directory. However, when the startup class loads, it is not able to access any of the classes that are part of the jars in the domain/lib folder! Instead, we are presented with a NoClassDefinitionFound error!!
I am writing to see if any one has any insight on what could be causing this and if this is doable in the first place!

You are facing the problem of classloaders.
What is inside the ejb classloader, cannot be accessed by a sibling classloader or a parent classloader.
Thus, u need to package the home and remote interfaces inside the WAR.
As regards the utilities used by ejb and servlets, place them at a common location: the servers classpath. Again, exercise some caution. If u place the utility classes in server's class path, then the ejb and servlets can access theese utility classes, but the utility classes cannot access the servlets/ejb classes (ie, utility will be in parent class loader and it cannot access the classes in its child classloaders)

What is the point of having all RMI server classes be Serializable?

I've confirmed that the serialVersionUID of the class is not the serialVersionUID of the generated stub. The class itself is never serialized and its fields don't need to be Serializable or transient. It is annoying me that Netbeans is giving me warnings about not defining serialVersionUID when there is clearly no point in doing so. So why does java.rmi.server.RemoteObject implement Serializable?

Spaces in -Djava.rmi.server.codebase path

hello,
how must i format the string containing the codebase for a rmi server if the path to the codebase contains spaces?
-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:c:/path/ and -Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:/path/ works, but
-Djava.rmi.server.codebase=file:c:/path with spaces/ doesnt work
i have tried to put the string in quotes and to replace the spaces with %20 (url encoded)
but nothing does work.
how must i format the string?

I guess you are using a batch file to start your RMI application.
Spaces in URLs must be encoded with %20, that is correct.
The problem is: the command line interpreter on Windows interprets % as a special character and will replace it.
What worked for me (Windows Vista):
java -Djava.rmi.server.codebase="file:/C:/Users/FirstName%%20LastName/RMI/" App
So encode each white space with %%20.
You can very easily check by inserting the following code at the start of your RMI application. These lets you see how the codebase is set.
System.out.println(" Codebase: " + System.getProperty("java.rmi.server.codebase"));

MDM server distribution path issue

Hi,
Has anyone faced below issue??
When we create repository in MDM Console, It should create a Folder under MDM server distribution path...right.
I have unarchived a standard repository but still i don't see this repository folder in 'Distribution" folder path...Also we tried creating a repository in u2018MDM console,u2019 but it doesnu2019t create a folder in mentioned path.
What can be the issue.??

Hi RC,
Just check with your basis team, how they hav maintained MDS server, If they had used shared environment. Distribution folder might have been got changed in your issue. you might be finding a distribution path in MDS.ini, however another distribution folder might have been created unknowingly where all the repositories are creating their folders.

Baseline update keeps failing due to forge class path issues ?

I'm trying ATG 10.2 setup with Endeca 3.1.2, discover store runs fine, but when I try to run baseline update on ATG CRS store, I see a NoClassDefFound error on slf4j libraries. I'm not very familiar with endeca, so please let me know if my approach does not make sense.
First I looked at baseline_update.sh and see it's calling runcommand.sh. So I did an echo on the last line of runcommand.sh and I can see slf4j api's getting included...

RMI Server Class not found

I am facing a problem when i am going to generate Stub and Skeleton using rmic command, but it gives the error that
Error: "class not found"
Please help me.its urgent.

Run rmic -depend to ensure that any classes referenced by the server classes are also compiled. Also, run rmic from inside the directory of your project beside the root of your package.
ie:
Work directory: work/
Classes are in: work/com/yourdomain/rmistuff/CoolServer.java
Then cd into directory work/ and run:
rmic -depend -verbose com.yourdomain.rmistuff.CoolServer
Try this and see what happens.

Class path issue

my jar class path is defined in the metainf file.
after the installation my jar is placed in the folder:
client/lib/company libs
and the run time location is from:
client/bin
I need to load a configuration file located in:
client/conf/file.properties
I added the path ../conf to the class path and i got an exception when i try to load the file.
I thought of locating the file according to the jar location and added the path: ../../conf
to the class oath but still....
does anyone have an idea why cant i load the file?

If you look in the JavaDoc API under Class the method getResource() shows:
Finds a resource with a given name. This method returns null if no resource with this name is found. The rules for searching resources associated with a given class are implemented by the * defining class loader of the class.
This method delegates the call to its class loader, after making these changes to the resource name: if the resource name starts with "/", it is unchanged; otherwise, the package name is prepended to the resource name after converting "." to "/". If this object was loaded by the bootstrap loader, the call is delegated to ClassLoader.getSystemResource.
What this is saying is that it delegates to the call to the classloader, so its the same as saying getClass().getClassLoader().getResource(). The difference is, this method will append the package name of the class you are calling it from if you do NOT have a '/' character as the first character of the string. Your example shows you do NOT have a '/' character at the start. So whatever package name you have for the class that the code snippet is found in, that package name is being prepended to the string AND the '.' are turned into '/' characters.
In your example, make sure that you use a / at the start. Remember that it first asks the parent loader to find the resource, if that fails, it tries the classpath of the JVM, and finally if that fails, it uses the classpath of the classloader of the class where the call is made. If you use "/conf/maestro-default-user-config.properties", then it will be looking for this file relative to your applications startup root path.

Class path issue with ProgressBar in vista

the error message i get is: 1172: Definition
fl.controls:ProgressBar could not be found.
here is the overall code that works fine until i add
fl.controls.ProgressBar;
i have a feeling it's Vista and the classpaths, but
ProgressBar is a built in class, the other built in classes work
fine as far as i know.
any help would be great :)

I've run into a strange problem when running my RMI server. It worked fine yesterday, though I made a few changes since then, none of those changes should cause this to happen, as far as I know.

pub.interfaces.ClientIface is in the SAME directory as the RMI server class! What could be causing this?
NOTE: I'm running this on Redhat Linux 9, jdk 1.5.0_04.

Usually an unmarshalling exception is caused by the classes not matching up on the server & client end. The classes are there I think, because otherwise it would have thrown a classnotfound exception instead. Can you try actually copying and pasting the classes either from the server to the client or vice versa? I've had weird issues where sometimes the compiler compiles the same class differently in different locations, so your safest bet is to make sure the client & server classes (that you're passing as arguments & returning from the server) are identical.

Starting and stopping an RMI server

I'm trying to figure out how to best stop and start my server.
My server class has two executions. One for starting and one for stopping.
Start Steps:
1) create my remote object ( an extension of UnicastRemoteObject )
2) create a registry ( LocateRegistry.create() )
3) bind my remote object
When I run this start method of my RMI server class, everything get's set up. I'm not doing any sort of waiting loop or anything to determine the lifecycle of my server. My understanding is that my rmiregistry, and my registered remote object, will continue to be available indefinitely. Perhaps this is incorrect.
Stop Steps:
When I want to stop the server, I'm calling my stop method. This is another invocation of my server class, so it's a separate JVM. In this stop method I want to do the following steps:
1) get the registry that I created earlier, by port number
2) get my remote object via reg.lookup()
3) unbind my remote obect ( reg.unbind() )
4) unexport my remote object ( UnicastRemoteObject.unexport ( myRemoteObj, true ) )
My concerns here are whether this makes sense. Does the unexport method work like this? i.e. from a remote handle to the object -- I'm not in the local JVM when the stop method runs. Also, does the rmiregistry "just die" at this point? It's not holding anything and when my method exits there's no reference to it anywhere. Except maybe in client code . . .

RMI Server Object Startup Error

I am trying to set up a computer lab at my college. I currently have one server running Slackware 9.1 and one client (my laptop) running Windows XP Home. I can telnet and ftp from my client. I can also access the Apache web server running on the Linux machine. I recently discovered RMI as a way to do distributed computing (we are trying to build a proof-of-concept distributed computing system). However, I cannot get RMI to work. When I take the code I wrote and use my laptop as both client and server, everything works. However, when I try to use both machines, it does not work. I want the Linux box to be the server and my laptop to be the client. After compiling my RMI server class (the class that registers the server object for use under RMI) and running it by typing java RemServer, I get a strange error (see bottom of this message). I cannot find this error anywhere else on the internet. I have the rmiregistry program running. I do everything the same as when I do RMI on just my laptop. Please help!

One thing I did discover is that I have not been explicitly starting rmid. Some documentation says that rmi starts rmid automatically. If I need to start rmid, what parameters to I need to pass to it?

I know very little about JSP at all but i do know dynamic html and i know Java well.
I'd look at the line
<jsp:setProperty name="user" property="*"/> i think, from your previous code, you should be using userName here, as thats your property declared in the above code. But thats a wild shot.
What i can tell you is its complaining about the user of "user" in terms of a class or property. Which means it's probably a mistake rather than a class path issue.
