Rotate Tab Labels of Tab Control

Is there a way to rotate the tabs of a Tab Control?
I want the Tab Location to be Left, but I also want the text of the tabs to be horizontal.

I don't think there is a simple way to make the label string horizontal while the tab has been moved to the side of the control. However you can replace the text label with a picture label (advanced -> tab layout -> import image from clipboard). May be that could be used to obtain something satisfying ?

  • When I resize the font for the Page Labels on the tab control in LabVIEW 7, the Increment/Decrement size gets messed up. Is there a solution to this problem or is this a bug?

I have noticed in LabVIEW 7.0 and 7.1 that when the text in the page labels display is enlarged, that the arrows enlarge but the top arrow enlarges more then the small arrow but then when you decrease the text size, the arrows stay remain large. This is not a problem in 6.1 because the arrows aren't available. Is there a work around for this bug or do I have to use small text for these page label arrows to look right?

I must admit that I've never used the page labels display and it does look like a bug. You can fix it however. Select the tab control and choose Advanced>Customize. In the control editor, select the page label control and do the same thing. You should be in the control editor for the numeric control and then you can go to edit mode and enlarge the decrement arrow to make it the same size as the increment.

  • Tab control page label change color programmatically

    Hi everybody!
I have a question about a tab control.
I'm trying to figure out a way to programmatically change the  properties of the tab labels so the selected tab's label looks different to the others.
I'd like to do this by changing aspects of it's font and it's color. But I can't find out how to access it either directly or by reference.
I can get at the label string so if all else fails I could make the selected one all capitals!
Am I missing something, or is this one of those things which can't be done?
    I'm using Labview 11.
    Regards,
    Jonathan.

The link still works for me!
Search the forum for "Tab Color".
This does not change the text, but the tab color which is what I do to high light the selected tab.
I use dark gray and light gray to help the user tell which tab is "active".
    Not exactly what you wanted.

  • Tab control label "font" property node

    Hi!
I am trying to manage font dimensions of different controls.
I am using property nodes, and it is simple to find the font part in the list of properties you can choose, both the label font part and the different contents fonts (boolean text, numeric text, string, etc...).
However, when I search for the property used to manage the font of the pages labels in a tab control, I am not able to find it.
Can anybody tell me where to find it? Or is this property just not available for the property nodes?
    Thank you!

  • Obscured Labels - Graphs and tab controls

In LV 2012 new options (Preferences or Options on the Mac) allow placing labels on new controls and indicators in various positions. I have noticed that for graphs and tab controls some of the options result in obscured labels.  See the image below.
The preferences are set as shown:
When a graph is dropped, the label is superimposed on the plot legend display.
For a tab control everything is OK until enough tabs are added to create a second row. Those tabs are behind the label.  I can understand some reluctance to move a label automatically after it has been created (in the tab case), but I think it would be better moved up than obscured.  Perhaps if the programmmer had repositioned the label before the tabs were added, then it should not move automatically.
    Is this a bug?
    Lynn

    Hi Lynn,
I've played around with these settings and I get the same results.  It seems with the tab control that the new row of labels is pushed to the top by default, and the label will be obscured unless it has been placed to the bottom or side of the control.  After looking into things further it seems that this is the expected behavior rather than a bug.  You're welcome to post your idea to the Idea Exchange as a feature request, it seems like that might be a better way to handle the label positioning in the future.

  • Can you print all the tab control's contents and include the tabs?

We are trying to generate a report that includes the contents of a tab control (graphs, text).  Using the Append Control Image to Report.vi, we are only able to print out the active tab and the tab is cut off of the image. How can we generate reports that include all the tab pages and their contents and include the labeling tabs?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jim

I do have a workaround for makinging the prints but it looks like some sort of cropped screensave that cuts off the tabs.  In my sample I was printing out 3 of the tab controls and you can see there are three by the cut off tabs.  Is there a setting to allow for more of the graph and its surroundings to be "captured"?

  • Tab control background color matching

I have a system style tab control.  I realized the when the program runs in exe mode, the background color of my label on the tab control doesn't match the backgound color of the tab control.  The background color of the tab control is different between exe mode and development mode.  Anyone help? How do I match the color?  Thanks!

  • Possible bug with Tab Control and Context Help?

I created Description and Tip text for each Tab of a tab control I am using on my front panel.  I have a subVI that is called by selecting a menu item from my main front panel.  The subVI's front panel also has a menu system and a Tab Control.  I have Description and Tip text written for each of the tabs on the subVI's front panel.
When I enable context help from the menu of my main VI, the proper help text shows up for the tabs on the main vi and, when I bring up the subVI's front panel, for its tabs as well.
    So far so good...
Now I builld the application and run it as an executable.  For ALL of my panel tab descriptions, I get the tab's label in bold text, but no description (just a blank area).
Is this a bug in LabVIEW?

The Help part of the bug is still NOT fixeed by NI.
But I dont get the tool tip appearing in the corner of the monitor, it is showing up as usual.

  • Text Tool on Tab Control Bug?

I'm trying to create some free labels on a tab control with the text tool and I've found the postion of the text insertion point is off.  When I click anywhere on the tab the text appears a few inches above the point that I clicked on.  The tool is working fine off the tabs and when I go to select the previously written text with it that works too.  I've noticed the insertion point jumps around and is often in a new place when I open a new VI and drop a tab control down.  I have free text on tabs I created last week so I know it wasn't doing it then. Has anyone else seen this behaviour?

  • Is there a way to add a LED indicator to the tabs in a tab control

I have a tab control with multiple rows of tabs. I would like to know if there is a way that I could add round LED indicators to each of the tabs so that I can quickly see the status of each page.  If I only have one row I can just allow for my LEDs to "hover" over the tab, but this does not work if there are multiple rows since the tabs change locations when they are selected.  Does anyone have experience with this?
    Thanks in advance!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I decided to take some time (probably way too much time!) to try this out and prove it would work.  See the attachment in LV 8.5.1.
I used arrays and control references to make the code as scalable as possible.  I added several spaces at the end of each label name so that there was some room to place a very small LED.
The trickiest part (and I would save this until the tabs are named, laid out, and the overall tab control is sized) is to find the best location and screen coordinates for each LED.
I discovered for best looks, that the LED should jump up and to the left by 2 pixels when its specific tab is selected, just like the label text does.  Otherwise the LED's just jump around on the screen to match whatever row its respective tab is on.
I have the timeout event randomly turning on and off the LED's, but that would actually be handled by your other code and whatever events determine whether the LED should be on or off.

  • Export image EMF from tab control, help!!

    Hello,
I am trying to get a good resolution report. I got use export image to EMF file so the graphs look very good resolution. When I appended the image control like png it looked poor quality. Now is ok, now I export image of graphs to emf and then use 'append image to report' using the path of file emf.
But I have a problem in this case. I am trying to get EMF file from Tab control. I have 8 graphs inside of each page of tab control. I would like to get each page exporting to EMF file and later append the image to report from path of file. The problem is I cant export to emf. I tried the solution in this treads.
    http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/send-control-image-programmatically-to-clipboard/td-p/180921/page/2
But it uses get image and it is bmp, so no good solution.
I attached pdf file. IT shows the tab control with append control to report (it is like capture in png file) and one graph append control to report png and emf file of another graph and use the path to input in word report. You can see the diference.
I would like to know if i could export the tab control to emf or any onther vectorial image and later use the path. SInce it will take several pages and i will need sometimes 300-400 graphs...
    Any idea would be great.
    Best Regards.

    Hi Mike,
    Thanks for your reply!.
Well, it was only one example. Check the attached file. It works ok. I split in dataset of 8sec and save the emf files.
The problem is the report. If I enable it doestnt works fine, since you will be the both parts working in the same time.
That's why the sequence structure would be ok, one time all the graphs are saved then I could append to report.
I have another question. I used transparent graph and it works ok. I remove all the scales Y values or labels and customized the graph adding one horinzontal line for X scale (like capture), but in the file emf saved didnt appear. Do you know why?.
    Best Regards, Fred.

  • Menu ring for tab control

    Hi,
I use a tab control which got in the meanwhile more tabs than could still all be displayed simultaneously. That's why I would like to use a menu ring instead of the tabs in order to control which tab will be displayed in the forefront. However, I could not yet figure out how to change the "page label display" of the tab control into a menu ring. Have a look onto my simple example. I guess you agree that my current solution doesn't really look like a pull down menu although it works like one. Any hint how to improve the design?
    Thanks in advance,

Here's an example that is based on an example that ships with LV. I cleaned it up a bit so it would look mre like a "real" application. It's not great from the standpoint of code design (No error handling for instance) but it shows how these plugins could work.

  • Tab control page name

I’d like an example or description of this:
For Tab Control, change the name of the Tab Page at Runtime?
    Thanks,Chris

You CAN do this.  For each tab, right-click and choose Advanced->Make Page Caption Match Label to uncheck the option.
Then, in your program, get the Pages property.  Use that reference to access the Caption property.
Note that the enum strings do not change, so if the LABEL for the tab is Page 1 and the caption is hello world, the tab value is still Page 1.

  • Bug Report (Tab Control)

    A way to crash LabVIEW:
    1. Open a new VI
    2. Create a Tab Control on the front panel.
    3. Select the second tab "Page 2".
    4. With the text tool, clear the tab label completely.
    5. Right-click the now empty tab, select "Add Page After."
Verified with LabVIEW 7.1 under Windows, with an old 7b43 beta under MacOS X and with 6.0 under Solaris. The Unix log is attached.

  • A possible bug, Tab control in subpanel

    Hi,
I think when a Tab control is used in a subpanel, it happens something faulty if you try to use right and left "tab locations". See the attached code.
will someone check the code and say if I've made any mistake or not. I see some black boxes and distortions instead of page labels when they are sorted at the left or right side of the tab control in the subpanel.
    Thanks.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It works at my surprise!
unfortunately, in my application I'm using FP Origin property so that a part of tab control is under subpanel borders. therefore this idea won't solve my problem!
never mind. I'll think of another FP objects distribution, but I didn't expect such a simple disturbing issue
    Goodluck.
