Row name as column name

I want to display the patameters entered by the user as column names in interactive / classic report.
For example i enter the parameters as date, 10-03-2011, 11-03-2011 and 12-03-2011.
How i can display these dates as column names in report ?
Sanjay

In a classic report, set the Headings Type (in the Report Attributes tab) to Custom and set the Heading to
&Px_PARAM1.
&Px_PARAM2.
&Px_PARAM3.
etc...

  • Changing rows into different column names

    Hi,
    i need to tranpose the rows into differnent column names
    my sample data :
    id , val
    1 3
    1 4
    1 5
    into
    id , val1, val2 , val3 , val4 ... valn ..
    1 3 4 5
    from askTom's i see that it's tranpose into a single column using the ref cursor ?
    how can i do made it into different column names ?
    kindly advise
    tks & rdgs

    For example, lets say that you want to order your columns from least value to greatest and that you'll never have more than three values per id. Then you can use the analytic function row_number() like this to create a pivot value.
    select id, val,
           row_number() over (partition by id order by val) as rn
      from your_table;And so your pivot query ends up looking like this.
    select id,
           max(case when rn=1 then val end) AS val1,
           max(case when rn=2 then val end) AS val2,
           max(case when rn=3 then val end) AS val3
      from (
    select id, val,
           row_number() over (partition by id order by val) as rn
      from your_table
    group by id;But notice that I started out by making up answers to Justin's questions. You'll have to supply the real answers.

  • Query to find out the table name and column name..

    Hi Experts,
    I have an Oracle DB in which has more than 50 tables and 100,000 records. I want to get the record which contains *"ITxtVarValue references a non existing text"* the text.
    Is there any query there to find out the table name and column name of this particular record where it reside?
    Please help. Any help will be rewarded.

  • Table names and column names defined by other languages, not English.

    Hi, everyone.
    I am wondering if there are any possible problems or any inconvenience
    when I define table names and column names by Japanese, not English.
    Currently, we are using SQL server 2000 as a db and windows as a operating
    system. In the near future, we have the plan to change the database software
    and operating system to "Oracle 10g" and "Linux O/S".
    I have not experienced the oracle database, which has table names and column
    names defined by other languages, not English.
    Personally, I would like to use English as table names and column names.
    In this case, I might have to provide appropriate reasons.
    Are there any possible problems or any "inconvenience" in terms of
    system maintenance, development, or something else ?
    What could be pros and cons in this case?
    Thanks in advance.
    Have a nice day.
    Best Regards.
    Ho.

    First you need to make sure your database has character set that support Japanese.
    Choosing a Character Set
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14225/ch2charset.htm#i1007681
    The main "inconvenience" you will have is if the client doesn't support Japanese or unicode, it will have trouble to access the table.
    And say in future after the application been developed, you want to implement the schema in some English environment, you will have hard time to do it.
    My point is English tablename and column names doesn't prevent you use it in Japanese environment and save Japanese data but not vice-versa. Hope you understand.

  • Passing table name and columns name as parameters to procedure

    i need a procedure that take table name and column names as parameters .
    it should display all values in those columns
    like
    if i execute procedure p ( t1,c1,c2)
    it should display c1,c2 values in t1 table
    if i execute procedure p ( t1, c1,c2,c3)
    it should display c1,c2,c3 values in t1 tables
    no of column parameters changes

    See if this helps...
    First, read the manual on collections.
    Second, define your expected results. You want to output the results to the screen? You cannot perform a 'select' in PL/SQL. You will have to select your output into another collection, then loop through that.
    Finally, I am curious why this is necessary versus performing a regular query.
    Take a look at this incomplete code.
    create or replace
    package dave_pac
    IS
    TYPE col_name_list IS VARRAY(20) OF VARCHAR2(30);
    PROCEDURE SFA_TAB_COL1
    (p_tname  IN    VARCHAR2
    ,p_cnames IN    col_name_list);
    END;
    create or replace
    package  body dave_pac
    IS
    PROCEDURE SFA_TAB_COL1
    (P_tname  IN varchar2
    ,p_cnames in col_name_list)
    IS
    l_stmt long;
    l_rc number;
    begin
    l_stmt :='select '||p_cnames(1);
    for i in 2..p_cnames.count
    loop
    l_stmt :=l_stmt||' , '||p_cnames(i);
    end loop;
    l_stmt:= l_stmt||' from '|| p_tname ;
    execute immediate l_stmt;

  • Dict View name and column names

    Hi,
    Oracle 11.2.0.1
    Windows XP
    I wish to get the output of all the dictionary views with their name and column names something like this :
    VIEW NAME
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    VIEW NAME
    Name                                      Null?    Type
    ...Please tell me how do I get the above output for all the dict view from dict table.
    Thanks.

    Step 1:
    set serveroutput on;
    set feed off;
    set head off;
    set pages 200;
    spool dict.sql;
    declare
    tn varchar2(50);
    cursor c is select table_name from dict order by table_name;
    begin
    open c;
    loop
    fetch c into tn;
    dbms_output.put_line('begin');
    dbms_output.put_line('dbms_output.put_line(' ||chr(39) || tn ||chr(39) ||');');
    dbms_output.put_line('end;');
    dbms_output.put_line('/');
    dbms_output.put_line('desc ' || tn || ';');
    exit when c%NOTFOUND;
    end loop;
    close c;
    end;
    Step 2:
    Just edit dict.sql to remove top and bottom lines.
    spool dictcols.txt
    @dict.sql;
    spool off;
    But, this is not a good way to obtain your desired output. I am sure, other members can do it very smartly and efficiently.

    It is ugly to force multiple rows into a single row. But it can be done and can be done dynamically as the following approach shows.
    SQL> create or replace type TStrings as table of varchar2(4000);
    2 /
    Type created.
    SQL>
    SQL> create or replace function ForceColumns( cur SYS_REFCURSOR ) return TStrings is
    2 setCols TStrings;
    3 setResults TSTrings;
    4 begin
    5 setResults := new TStrings();
    6 loop
    7 fetch cur into setCols;
    8 exit when cur%NOTFOUND;
    9
    10 if setCols.Count > 0 then
    11 setResults.Extend( setCols.Count );
    12 for i in 1..setCols.Count
    13 loop
    14 setResults( setResults.Count-i+1 ) := setCols(i);
    15 end loop;
    16 end if;
    17 end loop;
    18
    19 return(setResults);
    20 end;
    21 /
    Function created.
    SQL>
    SQL> select
    2 ForceColumns(
    3 CURSOR(
    4 select TStrings(object_id,object_name,object_type) from user_objects where rownum <= 5
    5 )
    6 ) as RESULT_SET
    7 from dual
    8 /
    RESULT_SET
    TSTRINGS('TABLE', 'A', '70998',
    'PROCEDURE', 'ABC', '54360',
    'TABLE', 'ANIMALS', '84829',
    'TABLE', 'B', '69604',
    'PROCEDURE', 'BUILDNAMEMAP', '70155')
    SQL>Note that as the row can contain any number of columns, it needs to be dynamic. This approach uses a collection type called TStrings to achieve this.

  • Supplying row value as column name

    Hi all,
    I have two tables in which row value in one table is column name of other. How do i relate it to retreive the data...
    Table 1: control (contains 3 columns in it)
    table_name - parametername - parametervalue
    MI     - UNPROCESSED_FLAG -     N
    MI     - PROCESSED_FLAG - Y
    MI     - FROM_DATE     - 01-JAN-2008
    MI     - TO_DATE     - 31-DEC-2010
    EMP     - DEPTNO     - 30
    EMP     - JOB     - SALESMAN
    EMP     - FROM_DATE     - 01-JAN-1982
    EMP     - TO_DATE     - 31-DEC-1995
    Table 2: emp (contains the columns: empno,ename,deptno,job,hiredate)
    I want to display all details from emp table according to the parameter given in control table. I have already written a query using subquery
    select *
    from emp
    where
    deptno = (select parameter_value from job_control where parameter_name = 'DEPTNO')
    and
    job = (select parameter_value from job_control where parameter_name = 'JOB')
    and
    hiredate between (select parameter_value from job_control where parameter_name = 'FROM_DATE' and table_name = 'EMP') and (select parameter_value from job_control where parameter_name = 'TO_DATE' and table_name = 'EMP');
    But i want to write ot using joins. Plz help me out.....
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Welcome to the forum!
    Whenever you have a question, please post CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements for your sample data, so that the people who want to help you can re-create the problem and test their ideas. (There's no need to post commonly available tables. like those in the scott schema, but make it clear which such tables you're using.) Since this is your first post, I'll do it for you:
    CREATE TABLE     control_table
         table_name     VARCHAR2 (20)
    ,     parametername     VARCHAR2 (20)
    ,     parametervalue     VARCHAR2 (20)
    INSERT INTO control_table (table_name, parametername, parametervalue) VALUES ('EMP', 'DEPTNO',       '30');
    INSERT INTO control_table (table_name, parametername, parametervalue) VALUES ('EMP', 'JOB',       'SALESMAN');
    INSERT INTO control_table (table_name, parametername, parametervalue) VALUES ('EMP', 'FROM_DATE', '01-SEP-1981');
    INSERT INTO control_table (table_name, parametername, parametervalue) VALUES ('EMP', 'TO_DATE',       '31-DEC-1995');
    INSERT INTO control_table (table_name, parametername, parametervalue) VALUES ('MI',  'FROM_DATE', '01-JAN-2008');
    ;Also post the exact results you want from that sample data. The query below produces these results from the control_table above and the standard scott.emp table:
    EMPNO ENAME      JOB         MGR HIREDATE    SAL  COMM DEPTNO
    7654 MARTIN     SALESMAN   7698 28-SEP-81  1250  1400     30
    7844 TURNER     SALESMAN   7698 08-SEP-81  1500     0     30Always say which version of Oracle you're using. The query below works in Oracle 9.1 and up.
    One thing you can do is pivot the appropriate parameters into a one-row result set, and treat it as a table, like this:
    WITH     got_params     AS
         SELECT  TO_NUMBER (MIN (CASE WHEN parametername = 'DEPTNO'    THEN parametervalue END))               AS deptno
         ,             MIN (CASE WHEN parametername = 'JOB'       THEN parametervalue END)               AS job
         ,     TO_DATE   (MIN (CASE WHEN parametername = 'FROM_DATE' THEN parametervalue END), 'DD-MON-YYYY')     AS fromdate
         ,     TO_DATE   (MIN (CASE WHEN parametername = 'TO_DATE'   THEN parametervalue END), 'DD-MON-YYYY')     AS todate
         FROM     control_table
         WHERE     table_name     = 'EMP'
    SELECT  e.*
    FROM     emp         e
    JOIN     got_params  p  ON   e.deptno     = p.deptno
                     AND  e.job     = p.job
                     AND  e.hiredate     BETWEEN  p.fromdate
                                        AND      p.todate
    ;This assumes that the combination (table_name, parametername) is unique in the control_table.

  • Row Insert Failed - Column name or number of supplied values does not match

    Hi ,
    I am trying add a new field to an existing table in MSSQL and access it in portlets,
    I added the new field in the table, and making necessary updations to the accessing java code seems to look fine. but when i insert the new rwo, fails with exception listed below.
    My code tidbits is as follows.
                   System.out.println("Column Location of outsidePhysician"+ aResultSet.findColumn("outsidePhysician")); // works and returns 24
                   if (anIntake.getOutsidePhysician() != null && !(anIntake.getOutsidePhysician().equals("")))
                        System.out.println("Now Alternate Physician will be added to resultset");
                        aResultSet.updateString(24, anIntake.getOutsidePhysician());
                        aResultSet.updateString("outsidePhysician",anIntake.getOutsidePhysician());
                        System.out.println("Now Alternate Physician already added to resultset"); // also printed
                   }else{
                        aResultSet.updateString(24, "new Physician");
                        aResultSet.updateString("outsidePhysician","new Physician");
                   //NOT NULL
                   aResultSet.insertRow(); // fails here
                   System.out.println("Inserted");
    The table has the right field name too, which is proved when i retrieve the fieldno, based on field name. I tried to delete the field and removing these changes work ok..
    Any ideas would be of help

    I haven't ever used that method of inserting rows, but from the example in the API documentation it looks to me like you have to callaResultSet.moveToInsertRow();before you callaResultSet.insertRow();Or are you just "inserting" the physician's name into existing rows of the database? If that's what you are doing then you need to callaResultSet.updateRow();Message was edited by:

  • Dynamically Using  XML Element name as column names

    I have a requirement where I need to show data for 31 days or days of the month based on the data in the xml result.
    Based on the month you are running the report, some may have 28 elements and some may have 31 elements in the data for days.
    How do I dynamically show 28 columns or 31 columns etc - the trick here is I have to use the name of the XML element and not the value for column names.

    How can I use the XML Element name - in this case I need to remove the "Day" and use just the number part for the column name.
    I can't have xml element names as numbers, thats why "Day" string is prefixed.

  • Case sensitive table names and column names in 8i or 9i databases

    Hi everybody,
    I've got a couple of business-side colleagues who insist that Oracle table and column names are case sensitive. That is, there is a setting in the set up of a database that lets you pick if table and column names are case sensitive. For example, this would mean that there could be a table named EMP in a given schema schema plus a table named emp in that same schema.
    Can this be true? I'd be surprised of course, but I've been surprised before.
    Thanks for any direction.
    -- Bill Loggins

    You can do it, but I would avoid it like the plague.
    SQL> create table "a" (b date);
    Table created.
    SQL> create table "A" (b date);
    Table created.
    I think I would refuse to work on a database where this has been used !

  • Policy name and column name inside a policy function

    I have the following function associated with a policy in the employee table for SSN and SALARY columns
    FUNCTION empid_policy_fn (object_schema IN VARCHAR2, object_name VARCHAR2)
    end;
    When the policy fires, the schema name and the name of the table are passed onto this function which we can use inside this function but is there a way to get the policy name and the column name which invokes this function?. The problem here is, I'm using same function (common) for multiple policies in different tables and that's why I need to get these details.
    Thanks
    -Krishnamurthy

    Inside your policy function you can query V$VPD_POLICY along with V$SESSION, V$SQL and USER_SEC_RELEVANT_COLS
    to get the fired policy name and column_names.
    Something like
    SELECT v.POLICY, .........
                   FROM v$session ss, v$sql s, v$vpd_policy v
                  WHERE ss.SID = (SELECT SID
                                    FROM v$mystat
                                   WHERE ROWNUM = 1)
                    AND s.address = ss.sql_address
                    AND s.address = v.paraddr
                    AND s.hash_value = v.sql_hash
                    AND s.child_number = 0HTH

    2 months ago, you asked a very similar question... and Markus gave you a good answer. His 2-months old answer still applies here.
    I recommend that you read it a again at Table name for backorder qty on sales order.
    When you have read his answer, please close both threads.

  • Restriction for tag name and column name

    It seems that the XML tag name has to be the same as the
    corresponging column name when using xmlgen.insertXML. Is there
    any plan to relax this restriction?
    null

    Yes, tag names have to be the same as the corresponding column
    names. That is the how we can figure out which tag/element
    should be loaded into which column. This seems to be the simples
    and the cleanest way of mapping tags to columns. Nevertheless, we
    are open to suggestions.
    Also, keep in mind that you can use XSLT to do all sorts of
    transformation (including tag name transformations) to your XML
    document, before inserting it into the database. This might
    solve your problem.

  • Alias Names for Column names in the Prompt

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where I am taking column names into prompt. I have used the following SQL in the SQL results under "Show" option of the Prompt.
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE '"Orders"."By OrderDate"' END FROM " Real Time"
    UNION ALL
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE '"Orders"."By ShipDate"' END FROM "Real Time"
    My problem here is I am getting the column names into the Prompt as "Orders"."By OrderDate" and "Orders"."By ShipDate", which is not acceptable and readable format for the user. I tried using the alias name in the SQL query this way.
    SELECT (CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE '"Orders"."By OrderDate"' END) AS "By OrderDate" FROM " Real Time"
    UNION ALL
    SELECT (CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE '"Orders"."By ShipDate"' END) AS "By ShipDate" FROM "Real Time"
    but it is throwing an error.Is there any way that I can assign an alias name for the column names such as OrderDate and ShipDate in the above SQL.
    Your quick respose is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Rama

    Change ur
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE '"Orders"."By OrderDate"' END FROM " Real Time"
    UNION ALL
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE '"Orders"."By ShipDate"' END FROM "Real Time"
    To
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE By OrderDate END FROM " Real Time"
    UNION ALL
    SELECT CASE WHEN 1=0 THEN AGE.AGE ELSE By ShipDate END FROM "Real Time"
    So that it displays the Name as required
    Then in the Fx for that column in the Report Use '"Orders"."@Presentation variable"'.
