RSS Feed in Flash: is it possible?

Can RSS Feeds be inserted into Flash?
I would like to create an animation whose sole purpose is to scroll a feed (like CNN), and that would change the source feed every 10 minutes.
Is this possible in Flash?

But of course RSS Feeds are possible to load in Flash.
You can load the RSS XML as an XML file and work with it that way.
A couple of things to mention:
1. You need to work with a crossdomain poilcy file if you are loading the RSS from a different domain than the SWF (IE - RSS is on feeds.mywebsite.com, and the SWF is on www.mywebsite.com)
Look up how to work with XML files, and crossdomain policies (if necessary).

• Rss Feeds in flash

I'm working with different flash movies for a client. she has several flash movies playing back to back as advertisement for different retailers. Now she wants me to add Rss Feeds for local weather on the flash movies. Now i never done this before and I'm not really that familiar with AS. I've also googled for the past hours and kept finding how to add Rss feeds to flash WEBSITES not MOVIES (.swf) if anyone could help me out, that would be greatly apreaciated.

Here's a link to a tutorial that should help you. Also, a flash site is a swf file.

• Intergrating RSS Feeds into Flash Builder 4...

I am very new to Flash builder 4 and I want to make an application where the app user can read through all the RSS Feeds and get updates everytime their connected to the internet. I am making this for the BlackBerry Playbook if that makes a difference and also can it be really simple instructions like I said I'm very new to this.

Ok, I think you might have your message title worded wrong. I think you want RSS feeds in a FLEX application, not Flash Builder 4 itself??
I, myself, am trying to implement an RSS feed into my application but have other priorities unfortunately.
The only bookmark I find in my list is this:
http://insideria.com/2009/04/flex-101-consuming-a-simple-rs.html
^ That might help you get started. I cant find any other examples in my bookmarks, but if I do I'll post them here.
OR, if I get my own code up and working (which should be within the next week hopefully), I'll post that up too. Cheers!

• I'd like a search keyword-based RSS Feed for iOS apps. Possible?

It's great that Apple offers a variety of RSS feeds for the iTunes store. I'd like to be able to further hone the feed to particular search-based keywords. For example, limit the top paid apps to just those about dogs or some other long-tail (I did NOT mean that as a pun :-) ) keyword term. Is this possible?
Alternatively, if one could convert Apple JSON-based searches into an RSS feed, that would do the trick, too. An example JSON feed:
http://itunes.apple.com/search?term=dog&entity=iPadSoftware&limit=200

• Problem with loading rss feed in flash

I wrote the following simple code to get started with loading
rss feed:
var document = new XML();
document.onload = myLoadHandler;
document.load("
http://www.nytimes.com/services/xml/rss/nyt/Business.xml");
trace(document.status);
trace(document.loaded);
trace(success.toString());
But the result I got is always this:
0
false
undefined
It is the same even for local xml files saved in the same
directory as the flash file.
Could someone please help me?
Thanks so much~

It's necessary to discard the white spaces.

• Download RSS feed as xml file from Sharepoint Online using PowerShell

Hello
Our company sharepoint (Office 365) contains also several RSS feeds.
How it is possible to download xml file out of this feed (website) using PowerShell?
I can authenticate with sharepoint using CSOM but do not what to do next.
As service user is not administrator I cannot use "SPOService".
This script works OK for standard website, but not for Sharepoint.
$doc = New-Object System.Xml.XmlDocument
$doc.Load("http://www.{CompanySite}.com/feed/")
$doc.save("C:\temp\feed.xml")
I am getting this error when using for company Sharepoint:
"The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden."
Thanks for your time considering this question.

Hi Scott,
thanks for advice.
Combination of WebClient and Sharepoint Credentials is working OK:
$client = New-Object System.Net.WebClient
$client.Credentials = New-Object Microsoft.SharePoint.Client.SharePointOnlineCredentials($User, $SecurePassword)
$client.Headers.Add("X-FORMS_BASED_AUTH_ACCEPTED", "f")
$client.DownloadFile($SiteURL, $file)

• Automatic Download of RSS Feed Content

Hi,
I have read a number of posts on rss feeds, saying that it wasnt possible to see the entire article in the mail application without clicking on "read more".
What I want to know is if there is any way to automatically download all content, so that when the computer is offline, i can click on "read more" and see the article.
thanks for your help
raph

The feeds that don't show the entire article don't have the full text of the post in the feed so there's no additional content to download (it's already getting everything in the feed). It'd display the same in any RSS reader because those feeds are only showing summaries or part of the article.
That said, it's definitely kind of annoying how the "read more" link shows up even if the full text of the post is in the feed. It really should only show up if the feed doesn't have the full text.

• RSS feeds to DMP4400G

Hello,
I have DMM 5.3 setup to manage up to 5 DMP4400G with 5.3 firmware.
How do i setup the DMM to display/scroll RSS feeds on the DMPs.
Do i need to create XML files for this.
I really new to Video
Thanks for the anticipated support

The DMM has a set up for this. If you are using the DMD, you can click on the RSS icon to set up a feed. Content will need to follow the RSS specs. You may also have to set a crossdomain policy for your feed, if you use the built-in functionality of the DMM. The reason is that the DMM renders all rss feeds in flash, and flash is restrictive in terms of what content it allows to be served out. A cross domain policy can be set by putting crossdomain.xml in your root folder of your web server. It should look something like this:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
http://www.adobe.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
Good luck!

• Group RSS feeds?

I used Vienna before upgrading to Leopard. Having RSS feeds in Mail is superior to having a second app IMO.
But, with Vienna you can group RSS feeds into folders, is that possible with Apple Mail?

Hallo, you can do this by making a "Mailbox" (read: folder) in the RSS location and dragging your feeds into it.
Cheers

• RSS Feeds display in Flash but not browser

I have a Flash application that pulls an RSS feed and
displays the top 5 titles and descriptions. Everything works fine
when I test the application in Flash but when I try to publish the
file I get the security msg in IE (To help protect your security,
Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts
or ActiveX controls that could access your computer...blah blah).
When I test in Firefox the movie clips containing the feeds
simply don't appear (everything else does though). I'm using an
external class file to parse the xml from the feeds and populate
the movie clips with the content. Is there another way I should be
doing it, or is there a publish setting I'm unaware of that will
block external content from being displayed in the player?
Any advice would be appreciated - thanks!

• RSS feed into newsletter. Is it possible?

Hello I need an expert's opinion please.
Is it possible to incorporate RSS feed into a newsletter? Let's say that a client has an RSS feed. Is it possible to add it in a custom-made newsletter campaign like mailchimp or any other campaign service? What do I need? Should the client provide me with something like an embedding code? Have you (experts) done anything similar?
Thank you in advance.
Please note that the newsletter campaign is custom made but it runs perfectly with mailchimp but i haven't add any rss feed as yet.

• Best Way to Aggregate Multiple Announcement Apps and Possibly External RSS Feed

Hello,
I have two separate announcement apps (one in sub-site A, and one is sub-site B). I am trying to create a webpart that will display content from both apps together.
I have tried to setup a CSWP and have been able to set the query to pull in the data (Although it shows expired announcements, which I would need to eliminate). Now, I am trying to customize the display of the CSWP, including the property mapping values
to display the announcement title (currently working with the URL as a link) and body (truncated like the announcement summary view if possible).
How can I get the body from the announcement to display? The 'body' field isn't listed as an option in the drop down list of mapping values. Do I need to toggle an option on the separate announcement apps, create a column, map a field, or some combination?
Also, I'd like to know if it is possible to add in an external RSS feed. Or, if there is a completely different way to approach and accomplish this, please let me know.
Thank you

Hi,
To display the “Body” field of Announcements list properly in Content Search Web Part, you can take a look at this blog about how to customize the display template for a good
start:

If there are more complex needs in customization, the two links below would be helpful:

• I Tunes U - Possible to edit RSS feed produced by podcast producer?

Hi people. Two questions
I have a self hosted i tunes u on mac server. Is it possible to edit rss feeds once they have been published by podcast producer? eg remove particular tracks from a particular feed or rename as track for instance?
Also when i tunes u is actually accessed through the interface no track time information is visible for any of of the podcasts? is this a common problem? and does anyone know how to solve it?
Thanks
Nick
Message was edited by: Nick Hoyle

Your 'tunes:summary' in the top section of the feed has several instances of the string
<br/>
You should remove these. You cannot have < or > within a tag and the code won't do either.
The URL in the 'itunes:image' tag includes an aompersand ('&') and this can cause trouble. You should change it to the wrod 'and' in the filename and in the feed (or call it something simpler, no-one sees the filename).
Your 'itunes:summary' and 'itunes:subtitle' tags for the episode have various codes in them - all starting &# something - iTunes will display these codes, not render them, and you should not use them. These tags should contain plain text, no html. This won't render the feed unreadable the way the other errors do, but it looks messy.

• Horizontal RSS feed- is it possible to create an RSS feed (showing both pictures and text), that scrolls from left to right rather than top to bottom?

I am trying to create an RSS feed that will scroll from left to right rather than top to bottom as is standard in iWeb. Ideally, I would like to show both images and text. I am actually using iWeb '09. I am not opposed to writing html code if necessary.
Thank you for your help!

Probleme solved without having to change anything in the flash.
The solution was to add a small part in the CSS in HTML
html {
overflow-x: hidden;
overflow-y: auto;
Solve probleme. All browser. VERY usefull to know !
