Rt.jar file structure?
hi can someone explain me the contents and file structure of rt.jar
pls add -verbose as an argument and try to find out something from the console.
It is common courtesy to acknowledge contributors to previous threads. Or at the very least you should be assigning the duke dollars you posted to your threads.

Automatical jar file structure in SunOne studio (forte)?
Hi everyone!
I wonder if anyone knows how to jar a folder structure in SunOne (former forte). I have a "myRoot" folder which I would like jar to "myRoot.jar". But I also want the subfolders to be jar:ed. I.e. I have myRoot/test/ and I want to jar them so that I may reach "test" this way: "myRoot.test" .
I know how to create a jar from one folder, but do the subfolders hang on automatically or do I have to specify them as well?

Linda EricI don't know about SunOne specifically but, in general, jar does it's work on subdirectories, too. So, if you ran the command line version of jar, you might do something like this:
jar -cvf myRoot.jar ./myRoot
Which would jar up the whole myRoot tree. You can verify what's in the jar file by running the following:
jar -tf myRoot.jar
Which lists everything in the archive. Hope that helps -

Can't start RMI server using JAR file
I found it interesting that if I start my RMI server from
a plain directory, everything goes fine.
But if I jar all these necessary files into a jar file,
and start my RMI server with command below
java -jar server.jar
UnmarshalException and ClassNotFoundException are
thrown to indecate that my stub class can't be found
(which I'm sure my stub class is in jar file)
Why is jar file so special that it can't act like
what it originally does when it hasn't been jared?
or I really should take care of some configuration
before I really can run a jar file?

What I don't understand is that when I convert all my
directories and class files properly into the jar file, they
just can't work properly.
I don't know if it's a problem of JAR file,
or it's RMI that make this JAR file special?
I'll simulate my JAR file structure that listed below,

Problem deploying and using custom Tags in jar files
I am trying to create a custom tag library of Java classes, package them in a JAR file, and use them in another web application. Here is the JAR file structure, named mytags.jar:

In the web application, I have copied mytags.jar into the WEB-INF/lib directory. I've verified that it lands in the corresponding directory for my appserver (I'm using Tomcat 6.0.10).
Here's the header for my JSP:

According to the docs, I should not need to include anything in web.xml to reference the fooTags. The tag library classes are valid, since I used them as local tags prior to moving them into a Jar library.

Imported par file to NWDS, jar file missing. Where find par file structure?
Hi All,
We want to implement idle session timeout on the portal. We found a wiki here on the subject. In order to implement the solution we need to make adjuestments to com.sap.portal.navigation.masthead.par.bak. When we import this par file to Netweaver Developer Studio, the libraries and jar files are missing. So obviously it errors then in portal as files are missing.
So I could add them manually but I don't know what the file structure is on this par file so don't where to add what. Does anyone know?
Also when I export the file after manually adding the missing files, will it export all the files or will it behave the same way as the import and leave out the additional files?
If anyone could help, I'd really appreciate it,

Program run in Netbeans but NOT running as jar file

i am writing program to access parallel port i put next files :
1. [ comm.jar + javax.comm.properties ] in

when i run application in NetBeans IDE 6.8 work fine and every think is ok
BUT when i produce jar file , generated jar file does not work [GUI appear but can not get ports on PC]
- I try to set Environment Variable as next :

also does not work

NabilFirst of all, leave the lib and jre/lib directories of the JRE alone. Never ever touch them again. Remove any jars you have put there yourself, or better yet completely remove and reinstall the JRE to make sure you put it back in a correct state.
After you do that, learn how to properly work with the classpath in both the IDE and the command line.
Netbeans: you define the classpath by adding jars to the project (right click on the libraries node in the project tree to get the appropriate options).
Command line: this depends on if you run a single class, or you invoke an executable jar.
Single class: you use the -cp command line switch to define the classpath
Executable jar: the jar itself defines the classpath in its META-INF/manifest.mf file. The -cp command line switch is ignored.
Since you use Netbeans, you'll get an executable jar so make sure to learn how such a jar is structured. -
Unable to run jar file without lib folder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar
I have done my project through NetBeans 5.0. Eventhough I have copied my lib foloder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar inside my project.jar, I am still unable to run my project.jar in other systems, it is creating an error as Could not find the main class. Program will exit. But if I copy the lib foloder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar in the same path as the project.jar, then my project.jar is running.
But I want to give only the project.jar for other users and not also lib foloder containing swing-layout-1.0.jar each time.
Could someone please help me with this.When you develop GUI applications using the Netbeans you may endup using netbeans specific jar files in your auto generated code.
And when you build jar files with netbeans it copy the third party jar files used in a application in to a lib folder in the same directory as the jar file of your project. And then set a class path entry to those jar files in your project jar file's manifest file.
So if you want to redistribute the package you have to redistribute your jar file and every thing in the lib folder in with the same directory structure.
If you want to change the structure you will have to change the class path to suit the new structure. -
Loading an image into an Applet from a JAR file
Hello everyone, hopefully a simple question for someone to help me with!
Im trying to load some images into an applet, currently it uses the JApplet.getImage(url) method just before registering with a media tracker, which works but for the sake of efficiency I would prefer the images all to be contained in the jar file as oppossed to being loaded individually from the server.
Say I have a class in a package eg, 'com.mydomain.myapplet.class.bin' and an images contained in the file structure 'com.mydomain.myapplet.images.img.gif' how do I load it (and waiting for it to be loaded before preceeding?
I've seen lots of info of the web for this but much of it is very old (pre 2000) and im sure things have changed a little since then.

Well
I know how to add files in a jar file but I cannot add empty folder.
I would like to do this so that when I get back the jar file I can have all the structure of the save main folder.
I also test that it is possible to do that on line with the "jar" command.

(the compiler doesn't ( can't )) look for directories, it can just look for specific files , and scan to get a list of all files matching certain criteria. So if there are no class files, it will say the package doesn't exist, even if there is a directory, possibly containing other files.yes there are class files in the jar, the tree structure:

and thats it.

thank you for you comments, the problem with having these errors, is that I can't even get a piece of information where this error is coming from, only that it is an import loading error package not found, what does that mean? that the jar was not loaded in compilation(no error about this), that the jar is corrupted(no error about this), that the path is incorrect(it is correct I made sure), that there is no such package in the jar(There is), that the compiler does not load the package(does it even do that?), really I can't even guess why this happens, I've been at this on and of all day today, really annoying.

How do I import classes in a jar file?
I have the following directory structure, each directory is a seperate package of the same name as the directory
RPGUniversal
RPGMap
RPGCharacter
RPGCharacter is not done yet so I am ignoring that package for now.
RPGCharacter and RPGMap both depends on classes inside the RPGUniversal Package, but are independant of eachother and RPGUniversal is completely independant.
I want to place each package in it's own .jar file for use as a library in later programs.
I placed all the compiled classes for RPGUniversal inside the proper directory structure, I then used this command to place it in a jar:
jar -cf ./RPGUniversal.jar ./RPGUniversal/*
I then tested the contents with this command:

How to build a jar file so the program can access its resources folder?
I have a java program written by someone else in which I have made a trivial change (I changed the background color). The jar file runs but it does not find one of the resources file.

mainClass.txt (manifest text file)
folder resources (includes file Java does not find: order.txt, a text file)
folder CFPT ( includes .class files)
folder cpl (includes .class files)
folder results
I tried
jar cvmf mainClass.txt CFPT0.jar CFPT/*.class cpl/*.class resources results
I get a lot of "adding: resources/..."
including the one pertaining to the files which is later not found
adding: resources/order.txt(in = 411) (out= 169)(deflated 58%)
the code that chokes right now is the following,
Object i = new Object();
InputStream is = i.getClass().getResourceAsStream("/resources/" + resourceName);
when I run java -jar CFPT0.jar the program runs
but it soon gives an error, cannot find resourceName order.txt (is == null)
I have Core Java Volume 1 page 498 but it does not help me figure out what I am doing wrong.
Can somone help me build the jar file correctly so the program can find its resources?
Is this a classpath issue? What do I need to do?My last mainClass.txt file content:
Main-Class: CFPT.CFPTRunner
Class-Path: ./resources ./results
I also tried
Class-Path: resources results
Initially I only had the first line.
I put back /resources in the java file as the / is necessary to indicate absolute path.
Otherwise it looks relative to calling class.
I tried adding the path on the second line of the manifest file per Wikipedia example

If you use the -sourcepath option, the compiler searches the indicated path for source files; otherwise the compiler searches the user class path both for class files and source files.

I took out the -d classes and compiled the .class files right with the java files in case that was the problem
javac -classpath . CFPT/CFPTRunner.java
jar cvmf mainClass.txt CFPT0.jar CFPT/*.class cpl/*.class resources results
java -jar CFPT0.jar

How to access a jar file in EAR file?
I have a EAR file which contains EJB.jar file and util.jar file. Outside of EAR, I mean in client side, I need to reference util.jar file. How can I access it?
EAR structure is

Util.jar must be executed in server side. If I just add Util.jar in client program's classpath, when client program is executed, serverside Util.jar is executed? Or what else I should do in the client program to reference server-side Util.jar?Excellent question. I don't see any client-jar in your EAR file structure. So I am assuming you are writing a separate client application which will talk to the ejbs deployed as part of this EAR. You need to do the following:
Write another EAR file with the following structure:
ear:
META-INF/application.xml
util.jar
client.jar
client.jar should have a META-INF/MANIFEST.MF and that should contain Class-Path:util.jar and value for Main-Class attribute.
Now deploy this new ear to your application server and execute it using Application Client Container that comes with your app server.
If you don't want to write another EAR file, then bundle th client.jar in your original EAR file.
Points to note are:
you have to repackage util.jar again inside this ear file.
For portability reason, you should use Class-Path manifest entry in client.jar. Refer to http://java.sun.com/j2ee/verified/packaging.html and J2EE platform spec section #8.2.
