Run a sample JSP in eclipse

I want to run a sample JSP code in eclipse. Can anyone tell how to add server in Eclipse 3.1. And from where to get the server. I have heard that Tomcat 5.0 can be used. Can anyone provide some solution,

• Http proxy error - Can't run Weblogic sample jsp

Hi,
I tried to run sample jsp from WebLogic 6.1. I am behind firewall.
After I compiled sample jsps, I brought up Examples Server. From
console, I saw "exampleServer" still in the "available" column of
"Targets-Server". (Maybe this is already wrong?) So I moved
"exampleServer" into "Chosen" column. Then I had the following error
from the example server startup window. And then of course, I got
"Error 404--Not Found" when running any example jsp. It looks like
exampleServer tried to connect to www.bea.com (why does it do that?)
and couldn't figure out the proxy server address and port. How do I
fix this? Thanks lot!

Hi Bill,
This is because parser tries to get a DTD, I guess for your web-app, from
bea.
You could ask IT to allow HTTP access to the www.bea.com. Could might also
download DTD file from bea, store it locally and change your web.xml so that
it references the correct local DTD file.
The first solution seems to me more natural.

• How to run servlet and jsp in Eclipse

i am trying to run a jsp and servlet file in Eclipse its showing error in editor its self.

yep, eclipse can do that. I've never done it, but
Tomcat needs to have remote debugging enabled, which
means you need to use the tomcat that WASN'T
installed by an installer. don't ask me why, ask the
boys at Jakarta! eclipse attaches itself to the
debugger in some way or other. I dunno. there's a
book called Eclipse Distilled that only costs about
?10 or so and has a chapter on doing exactly this, if
you're using Eclipse for fairly advanced stuff like
this, I'd invest in a copy of that. well worth the
moneyTry [url http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/]WTP★ plugin (Web Tools Platform). I am using this plugin, and as far as I know it is free. You just have to install Tomcat normally, and configure WTP plugin to pointing that Tomcat. You can run, debug, do everything you want.

• Error in Running REPORT in JSP format

Dear Fellows,
I have created a report in JSP format and deployed on the local web server. I try to run the report through this URL.
"http://dw_hit4:7778/emprev_Zeeshan.jsp?server=repsrv&userid=hr/hr@sbpdw"
When i access this URL i get this error
"Error: java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: oracle.reports.jsp.ReportTagExtraInfo"
Can any one tell me what is the cause of ths error and how to get rid from it.
Please this is very urgent.. Help me...
Awaiting For the earliest reply..
Thanx in Advance
Zeeshan Suria

I have created a report in JSP format and deployed on the local web server <<<Is this local webserver - Oracle HTTP server ? Which one are you using ?
1) If you are deploying reports in Oracle Application server ( Midtier - Business Intelligence , Forms and Reports )
then there is a sample JSP report deployed which you can access from home page -->Demonstrations Tab
You can search for the JSP Report ( forgot the exact location ). It should be emp.jsp or test.jsp
You need to have reports_tld.jar (tag library) in <contextRoot>\WEB-INF\lib directory. See how the sample report is deployed.
Additionally you need to have following jars in REPORTS_CLASSPATH env variable in registry HKLM\Software\Oracle\Home<x>
$OH\reports\jlib\rwrun.jar;$OH\j2ee\home\oc4j.jar;$OH\reports\jlib\rwbuilder.jar;$OH\jlib\zrclient.jar;$OH\j2ee\home\lib\ojsp.jar;$OH\reports\jlib\xrpdsolap.jar;$OH\reports\jlib\xrpds90.jar;
( But all these entries come out of the box. Hence I asked which app server you are using )
2) If you are using non-Oracle app server, then there are thin clients for BEA, IIS, OC4J and standalone thin client.
You can get them in
http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/search.html?cat=ALP&col=ALC&submit=Search

• Running Java program created with Eclipse plugin fails to open report

I created a CR 2008 report and using the Eclipse plug-in I created a Java program to drive data through the report and export the resulting reports as pdf files.
This process works just fine if I run the Java program in Eclipse. I copied the code to a server to run the application remote.
The program fails at the point of opening the Crystal Report. This is the error.

System.out.println("Current date : " + today);

ReportClientDocument reportClientDoc = new ReportClientDocument();
reportClientDoc.open(REPORT_NAME, 0);
System.out.println("Opened the report");
As you can see the first 2 println statements worked fine, but the 3rd one failed. The program was not able to open the report.
Is there a reason the code can not run without Eclipse?

did you copy all the jar files? especially the jrcadapter.jar? please download the following sample and modify it accordingly:

Many thanks in advance.

It's very frustrating that FB stops working when the libs
folder is missing. If you are checking in project files to a source
control app like Perforce, empty folders don't get added, so if you
don't add an initial dummy file, the next time you do a clean sync,
the libs folder may not be there, and even though there is nothing
there, FB complains. :-(

Hi,
This is the example I took from Steve Muench's book.
<?xml version="1.0"?>

As you can see, I do have the version=1.0 attribute. Why is it complaining still?

Probably you'll get more answers when you post this kinda questions in the JDev forum.

how do we run a servlet program in eclipse.

Not at all, because servlets require a servlet container. Some Eclipse plugins (Lomboz etc.) do provide integration with those.

Hi,
The connection specified in Runtime Connection on Project properties is pointing to a 11.5.9 or 11.5.10 instance? I had a lot of problems like that until i realized i was working with 11.5.9. In this case, you have some prerequisite patches to apply, which are stated on the JDeveloper with OA Extension Readme. Once you apply those, they upgrade the OA Framework to version 11.5.10, and JDev works ok.
Bye
