Run a script on file open?

I realize there is a way to run scripts when AI launches, but is there a way to run a script when AI opens a file?

Hi Mordy,
Sorry, I replied the same thing below as the other post and not sure if you would go back so... :)
Thanks a lot for your reply. Thats ALMOST exactly what I need and so close to what I have been stressing over its unreal...
...although because I am not opening a new template and I am opening a direct tiff image from video footage I previously rendered out in after effects to then run my script on in illustrator for the additional tiff's, I would need a similar sort of thing that way around instead?
Would you know if that is possible?
Thanks again for your help with this...

    Thanks a lot in advance.Either include the script in a startup script for the database, dbstart on *nix you'd need to write your own on windows, or else move the code into a startup trigger.

  • Run applescript automatically on file open and close

    Is it possible to automatically invoke a given applescript when opening -any- document with a given application?
    In effect, I would like to automatically detect the "open file" operation (irrespective of how the file was opened) so as to immediately follow it with a specific AS.
    I would similarly like to automatically invoke another AS prior to a "close file" operation.
    Is this possible via Automator or some other way?
    Thanks,

  • A landscape file opens in landscape on one machine,  portrait on another

    My wife made some invoices using Pages 09 on her iMac in landscape mode. Now, when she opens the file, it loads in portrait mode (screwed up, obviously). However, if I grab that file and open on my MBPro running Pages 09, the file opens and prints just fine. I've reinstalled iWork 09 on her machine, deleted caches etc. When she launches Pages, she can select her file via the thumbnail view, which, in fact, shows the file in landscape mode. Any idea how to solve this problem? I even re-saved the file on my machine and sent it back to hers. The new file, landscape on my MBPro, opens in portrait on her iMac. Thoughts? suggestions? I checked preferences, and Page Setup doesn't do anything to the current layout.

    You deleted caches, but did you delete the com.apple.iwork.pages.plist found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences? This is Pages preference file & would appear to be corrupt.

  • Can you open a file in PS & run a script from LR?

    So one of my commercial clients wants their product files in a variety of formats, including PNG with transparency. I'd love to be able to provide them with this from LR, but you can't export as a PNG. So I've written a script which takes the active document in PS, turns off the relevant layers, converts to sRGB, and saves as a PNG. Is there any way for me to invoke this script from LR, as I am opening the document? Ideally, I'd like to include it in the "Edit in" menu, as a menu item which would invoke PS and run the script. That way I could simply select the images, and get them processing while I do something else. Or do I have to open all the files and then run the script on all the open files?

    Images are automatically saved back to the LR library but you need to follow a logical sequence for LR to render the export copy. You need to start the round trip from LR as follows and use the save command (Ctrl+S) not save as:
    1) Ctrl+E in the Library to export selected image with develop settings (I choose PSD but tiff is also available in the prefs)
    2) Edit in Photoshop; then Ctrl+S to replace (overwrite) Lightroom export copy
    3) Ctrl+W to close in Photoshop and update Lightroom thumbnail. The saved copy is usually stacked next to the original so don't worry about XMP.
    On Mac OSX Cmd+E; Cmd+S; Cmd+W

  • A script in file EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time

    Hello Everyone.   I just downloaded Dreamweaver CS 5.5 Trial version (Win 7), and I have been working on my home page.  I've created a wonderful image map with spry widget tooltips (about 60 tooltips), and I'm really happy with the results....until this error started to pop-up.  I have re-started the computer, deleted winfilecache****, and updated Dreamweaver through the help window.   I have googled this error, and found it existed in CS3 and CS4, and even in CS5, but no information as to why it's happening in CS 5.5.    I really want to buy this software, but am unsure as to why I would spend this amount of money on something that's going to give me a headache.  I am a layman, and work on my site recreationally.  I'm new to CSS and Spry so if i missed the obvious I apologize for that.   I inserted the spry widgets in the CODE screen by highlighting my hotspot CODE and clicking INSERT>SPRY>SPRYTOOLTIP.  Each tooltip is checked to "follow on mouse" and "hide on mouse out" and horizontally moved -400.
    So now every time I open this page in Dreamweaver this error "A script in file EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time.  Do you wish to continue?" pops up, and whenever i try to edit the spry tooltip properties.  Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere.  thanks for your help and time.  Part of the code looks like this: //

    </div>
          var sprytooltip57 = new Spry.Widget.Tooltip("sprytooltip57", "#sprytrigger57", {offsetX:-403, closeOnTooltipLeave:true, useEffect:"fade", followMouse:true});
    </script>
    Hope I included most everything needed to diagnose, let me know what I forgot.  Thanks again.

    oops i tried to copy the code here but it didn't work. Is this better?

    When I run this script nothing is output to the screen or spooled to a file. What do I need to do to get output from this script.
    SET SERVEROUTPUT ON size 100000
    DECLARE

    v_statement      Varchar2(500);
    v_name varchar2(30);

    Do I include several variables after the INTO or just
    one?
    How do I loop through the record and print the
    individual variables?
    I appreciate your assistance!He already gave you the answer above:
    v_statement := 'SELECT name,usid,passwd,acctnum FROM ' || v_schema ||
    '.userid';
    execute immediate v_statement
    INTO v_name, v_id, v_pwd, v_acct;
    If this is not printing any output, it is because you don't have a table named USERID... what are you trying to do?

  • A script in file EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time CS4

    I'm getting this error in dreamweaver:
    "A script in file C:\ProgramFiles\Adobe\Aobe Dreamweaver CS4\Configuration\Shared\Spry\DesignTime\EditingUtils.js has been running for a long time. Do you want to continue?"
    I get the error when I open a page that has several spry elements, even after shutting down my computer and rebooting. It has over 100 spry collapsible panels, which each have their own name, ie: var CollapsiblePanel108 = new Spry.Widget.CollapsiblePanel("CollapsiblePanel108")
    I read that editing the parameters of a widget may cause problems for CS3, and it is resolved for CS3: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/401/kb401257.html, but I don't know how to fix the problem for CS4.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    I think you have answered your own question. More than 100 Spry collapsible panels is not exactly what most people would call "several". It's a huge - and probably unrealistic - amount.
    I don't think there is an actual limit on the number of Spry elements that you can have on a page, but Dreamweaver uses JavaScript in the background to inspect the document and edit it. The more elements you have, the greater the processing power and memory your computer requires to handle them. It might work with a faster processor or more RAM, but I think you need to reconsider your design strategy.

  • Add all files of one folder to aperture by running a script

    HI,
    i have a question:
    I will make my Aperture Tethered more easy (with my Canon eos 30D) i have coded a script / folder action to do this but: this folder action does not import all pictures (wy ever, i think that the files coming in to fast were not recognized).
    Now i will code a script which will include all files of a folder to aperture when it is run.
    i will give it a try, and the import does function, but, i don't know how i can tell the script which files it should import (with a folder action its easy, with this line:
    on adding folder items to this_folder after receiving these_items
    but how to do this without the "on adding folder items" cause that does not happen in the case i will use it.
    i'm looking forward to anthers:D
    Best Regards
    Christoph

    yes i tryed this application, and there was the same problem as with my one (i have programmed my based on this application)
    but both had the same problem they open on imageadd, but if i take more images in seconds (i think the script is still running => it can't recognize new images) it does not recognize the newly taken images.
    and i hope some script that imports all images in the folder will solve the problem.
    the more ore less only problem is to tell the application which images to import (like: on run import ALL files)

  • How do I run a script on a .indb file?

    How do I run a script on a .indb file? What should I do differently than in running one on a single indd file?

    I do this like so:
    var inddFiles = GetFilesFromBook();
    for (var i = 0; i < inddFiles.length; i++) {
        inddFile = inddFiles[i];
        app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.NEVER_INTERACT;
        doc = app.open(inddFile);
        app.scriptPreferences.userInteractionLevel = UserInteractionLevels.INTERACT_WITH_ALL;
        // Process document
        doc.close(SaveOptions.YES);
    function GetFilesFromBook() {
        var bookContent, file,
        activeBook = app.activeBook,
        files = [];
        for (var i = 0; i < activeBook.bookContents.length; i++) {
            bookContent = activeBook.bookContents[i];
            if (bookContent.status != BookContentStatus.MISSING_DOCUMENT) {
                file = new File(bookContent.fullName);
                files.push(file);
        return files;
    Here is the whole script that you can use as example.

  • C# Run VB Script file remotely thriugh PowerShell Invoke Command

    I have a requirement where need to run vbscript remotely through PowerShell Invoke command. I can run the VB Script locally but not remotely as the vbscript file is not present on the remote machine. I don't want to copy the script file on remote machine.
    Please let me know how to run vb script on remote machine. Below is the code.
    Collection<PSObject> output
    = null;
            using
    (Runspace runSpace =
    RunspaceFactory.CreateRunspace())
                runSpace.Open();
                using
    (Pipeline pipeline = runSpace.CreatePipeline())
    RunspaceInvoke invoke =
    new RunspaceInvoke();
    PowerShell ps = PowerShell.Create();
                    ps.Runspace
    = runSpace;
                    ps.AddCommand("invoke-command");
                    ps.AddParameter("ComputerName",
    "RemoteServerName");
    ScriptBlock sb = ScriptBlock.Create("cscript E:\\Test\\DeleteFiles.vbs");
                    ps.AddParameter("ScriptBlock", sb);
                    output
    = ps.Invoke();
    Regards, Parveen

    Hello Parveen,
    Please refer to the following thread
    https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/7562eefb-7fba-4bf6-834e-82256f159155/run-script-on-remote-macine?forum=csharpgeneral
    See his code:
    You can use WMI to create processes on a remote machine. In C#, use the ManagementClass.
    using System;
    using System.Management;
    using System.Collections.Generic;
    public class MyClass
    public static void RunNotepad()
    ManagementPath p = new ManagementPath(@"\\targetMachine\root\cimv2:Win32_process");
    ManagementClass m = new ManagementClass(p);
    m.InvokeMethod("Create", new Object[] {"notepad.exe"});
    See: Creating Processes Remotely
    Note that the the scrpt file is not executable so you have to create script like this:
     cscript.exe "\\yourmachine\script\test.vbs".
    Best regards,
    Barry

  • How to run stored procedure IC Data / to define according script logic file

    We want to execute the stored procedure IC Data before the IC Booking. Could anybody tell me, how we have to define the script logic file in detail?
    We try it with this code (that runs without any error, but 0 rows are calculated, 0 rows are updated)
    *Run_stored_procedure=spicdata('%App%','%C_Category_Set%','%time_set%','','%entity_set%','','','Input','I','%logtable%','%scopetable%')
    *commit
    We also had tried with this code:
    *Run_stored_procedure=spicdata('%App%','%C_Category_Set%','%time_set%','','%entity_set%','','','','','%logtable%','%scopetable%')
    *commit

    step 1.
    Create a store procedure in back end.
    step2.
    Create a ssis package to execute the store procdure.
    step3.
    call this ssis pacakge in the data manager package and run the package.
