Run application developed with Oracle dev tools in Linux client

Hi,
In my organization we're using Oracle forms and reports as development tools and 10g database.
We have developed an app that runs on Windows XP, and I would like to know what are the possibilities for it to run in a Linux client, such as Fedora, Ubuntu, etc.
Is it possible? What would I need to do that?
Thanks

For Forms and Reports to run in Linux it (Linux) will need a Java plug-in.
The last time I did this I used this:
The file jre-6u12-linux-i586-rpm.bin was download from:
http://www.java.com/en/download
There should be instructions there on how to install and configure.
I will include my short enable notes below: (Keep in mind these are about two years old)
Enable and Configure
1. Go to the plugins sub-directory under the Firefox installation directory
This directory was:
/usr/lib/firefox-3.0.1/plugins (On Red Hat AS 4)
2. Enter the following command to create a symbolic link to the Java Plug-in for the Mozilla browser.
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_12/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
Note: Use ns7-gcc29 if Firefox was compiled with gcc2.9. (It was not)

Except the commercial application list on the official Oracle APEX web-site, anyone can give more information regarding commercial application developed using Oracle APEX?
One I can find: XPinventory (http://xp4each.wordpress.com).

I'm curious - is there a problem with the 15 commercial applications listed at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/apex_com_commercial_apps.html? What are you specifically looking for?

  • Little Applications developped with Oracle

    Hi,
I would like to develop little applications with Oracle Forms and Oracle Reports (Database 8i or 9i) and sell my applications in little companies.
I need database standalone, Forms Builder, Report Builder, pl/sql, sql*plus to develop.
I need database standalone, Runforms, Runreports, pl/sql, sql*plus on customer's computer to run the application.
Can somebody tell me if I can buy a license for me (with only developper tools listed above), and a license for my customer (only runtime Forms, Report and database). I need a very basic licence for standalone application. Wich licence I have to buy? How much does it cost for that type of licence for me? for my customer?
    Thanks.

For development purposes, you're generally free to download whatever software you'd like from the Oracle site.
For the type of application you're envisioning, your customer would probably need an embedded Oracle license. You'd have to contact Oracle sales to get a quote on what they'd charge for an embedded license.

  • Running SQL developer with Oracle XE

I am running SQL Developer 1.5 against Oracle 10g XE for a quick interface to practice SQL and PL/SQL. Before running any scripts to create tables, I see a huge number of tables, views, etc. already created for my user HR (which I unlocked in Oracle XE) and any other user I create. What can I do to prevent these tables from appearing? Which ones are necessary for processing? I realize that these are old versions of SQL Developer and Oracle XE but they are much quicker to install for my purposes than the newer editions. Thank you.

Get the latest SQL Developer instead right away; it's no "install" just unzip and go.
Above suggested role, is one of the predefined, to-be deprecated roles, and should not be used. Instead use CREATE SESSION privilege for relevant users and preferrably create your own application-specific roles. See the Security Guide for more info.

  • Running an application developed in Oracle Forms and reports

    Hi Folks,
Does anyone know or have an opinion on whether an application developed in Oracle Forms/Reports can run on Oracle Cloud as it is a supported product?
It is also possible to 'mix' adf and forms , but on the cloud.....?
    Thanks
    Alex

    Hi,
Oracle supports three types of cloud deployments
(Private) where by applications runs on premises fully controlled by customers.
(Public) where by applications runs at oracle data centers and managed by dedicated team of experts.
(Hybrid) partial applications runs on premises "Customer Site" and rest on oracle public cloud.
in your scenario of using forms/reports and ADF , i personally recommend to have your private cloud as the forms / reports are the previous generation of oracle development tools , everything in oracle public cloud is now based on Oracle fusions and fusion middle ware where the development tools are Jdeveloper , XML , etc...

  • Getting error while configuring WAS 7 Fix Pack 37 with Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1.7.0)

    Hi,
I have installed Oracle Unified Directory 11.1.2.2.0 and WebSphere Application Server 7 with Fix Pack 37.
I am getting error while configuring WAS 7 Fix Pack 37 (7.0.0.37) with Oracle Application Development Framework (Oracle JDeveloper 11.1.1.7.0). While adding products to cell (Oracle Directory Services Manager for WebSphere - 11.1.2.2.0), I am getting below error:
CFGFWK-64069: The following prerequisites were found to be missing: Oracle WebCenter Composer Extension - 11.1.1.0
Also attached the screenshot of the error.
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Himanshu Verma

    Hello,
ODSM has the following dependencies apart from ADF (both components depend also on ADF):
    - UIShell (oracle.idm.uishell.war)
    - Webcenter Composer (oracle.webcenter.composer.war).
    Apparently the composer is missing.
Important points to check when using ODSM with WAS:
    - To install and configure Oracle Fusion Middleware with IBM WebSphere, you must first install (but not configure) IBM WebSphere
    - You must install the Oracle Application Development Framework as the same user who installed Oracle Unified Directory.
    - appdev must be installed under the same ORACLE_HOME as OUD

I'm trying to run a JSP application developed with Jdeveloper

    I get the message :
"Error Message: java.lang.RuntimeException: JSP Registry could not locate runtime property file:ORDERS_ORDERS_PKG_ORDERS_PKGModule.properties"
Of course I know ,this file should be deployed as well. I have done this.
    Any ideas what's wrong ?
Or can anyone point me to a (proper) document that decribes (correctly and completely) alle the steps that need to be done ?
    Many Thanxs

Yep, I had the same problem deploying from JDeveloper 9.3.1, followed:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/howtos/10g/adf_runtime_update_howto.html
and it works! thanks for the clue! (now I only have to find out what ADF is now!)

This isn't done via the developer tools, but more likely by an extension or security software.
You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • I can compile objects with SQL dev tool but not with a direct sql

    hi,
This is a bit weird - I'm probably not familiar enough with Oracle's compilation process...
I'm creating a some functions / procedures / triggers. When I run the script to create them with Oracle's SQL Developer tool, usually they become immediately valid, and if not then I can manually right click them and choose Compile, and they're compiled correctly and become valid.
However, when running them with command line tools, they're uncompiled after created. I'm trying compile them with
    ALTER PROCEDURE / FUNCTION / TRIGGER MySchema.MyFunction COMPILE;
    and it always returns
Error starting at line 1 in command:
    alter function MySchema.MyFunction compile
    Error report:
    SQL Command: alter function
Failed: Warning: execution completed with warning
    alter function MySchema.MyFunction succeeded.
and the object remains uncompiled / invalid.
also tried with DBMS_... utils and got the same results.
Same with adding things such as PLSQL_WARNINGS = 'ERROR:ALL' to the stmt
But when I go in SQL Developer to the object, right click and click Compile, it compiles fine w/o warnings / errors and becomes valid.
Is there anything else I should run other than this alter..compile? Is SQL Dev tool doing something different than "alter function ... compile" when right clicking and object and clicking "Compile"?
    thanks!

    hi,
I'm having difficulties connecting with SQL Plus, since it seem to require at startup some admin user/password, which I don't have at the moment. Also tried to give it in command line the db name and params and it still require this pass... Will try to get it...
But again, when I'm right clicking the object in SQL Developer and click Compile, it compiles fine and becomes valid. After doing that, running
    alter function mySchema.MyTestFunction compile;
    passes with
    "alter function mySchema.testfunction succeeded"
If I run this sql before doing compile with SQL Developer, it fails with what I posted before.
I wonder if SQL Developer does things other than the above compile stmt.
If I right click on Functions in SQL Dev and click Compile All or Compile Invalid, I can see the sql it about to generate, and it's the same as I tried - and fails as well... Only when right clicking the object and Compile it works...
A test func I tried, for example:
    create or replace
    FUNCTION testFunction(n in number)
    RETURN NUMBER
    IS
    BEGIN
    RETURN n + 1;
    END;

  • Developing with Oracle APEX... from an iPad?

    Hi,
I'm a French APEX freelance. I have a blog about it and recently, I've wrote a post from a simple question: "Do you imagine developing APEX applications with an iPad?".
Actually, I thought a lot about it since the iPad is released in the US and very soon in the other countries.
You can read this post here if you speak French: http://romain.lazzarotto.fr/veille-technologique-oracle-apex/oracle-apex-sur-lipad/
or here with the Google translation: http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&sl=fr&tl=en&u=http://romain.lazzarotto.fr/veille-technologique-oracle-apex/oracle-apex-sur-lipad/&rurl=translate.google.com&twu=1&usg=ALkJrhgxLCmbOqmasvYOnXF4AVoT9voIOw
As database management and application development can be done 100% with a simple Web browser, why not doing that with an iPad?
It would bring so much mobility, and enable developers to have a better development experience, from anywhere with a 3G or Wi-Fi connection.
Most of all, what would you think about a dedicated iPad app? Imagine something very innovative with touch interfaces, which would enable you to manage regions, elements and buttons that way.
APEX has already some very nice UI features such as Query Builder to develop SQL requests without any coding, or drag and drop elements. I'm wondering how it could be extended to other features and used on such devices?
Oracle already developed some iPhone apps (available here: http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/oracle-usa-inc/id284793707).
Do you think that an APEX app for the iPad (and other future similar devices) would be relevant?
With this post, I want to point out this idea and get feedback from the community, so feel free to share your opinion.
    Have fun with APEX,
    Romain.

Maybe not develop ON an iPad, but FOR the iPad...Sure. If it ever gets Flash. One of the first things I did was try and pull up my 4.0EA2 application. No Flash graphs/charts obviously, but other than that it rendered well.
If the ability to see the charts comes along (Flash support or HTML5 maybe?), then I can see it being a useful tool for our salesforce. Let alone building standalone apps.
It's a great platform from the hardware viewpoint. Just not ready for APEX yet.
