Running commands on GNOME login/logout

Hi everyone,
I have a truecrypt partition which I want to mount on GNOME login and dismount on logout. My approach is different to the one in the Truecrypt wiki since I don't like having passwords stored unencrypted in files:
What I want to do is basically run "sudo truecrypt --auto-mount=favorites" everytime my user logs in to GNOME (not to a terminal) and run "sudo truecrypt -d" on logout.
How can I do this? I didn't find anything in the GNOME wiki entry or on the web, only for logins in general using .bashrc which is not what I want.
Thanks for any help.
BTW, does anyone know why there is no possibility to start TrueCrypt minimized to tray (the TrueCrypt Background Task) on Linux? Also, the Windows version has a "Mount favorite volumes on startup" setting which I couldn't find in the Linux version. These two things would have saved me a lot of time.

arkham wrote:If you are using gdm to login/logout you could take a look in /etc/gdm. There are some folders called PreSession and PostSession which may be useful to you,
Somehow these folders don't work for me. I decided to use the GNOME startup programs to run the mount command since it shows a window requesting the volume password. I added a "Truecrypt" file with the following content to the PostSession folder, made it executable by everyone, but my volume doesn't get unmounted.
#!/bin/sh
sudo truecrypt -d
exit 0
The solution for the login command is basically found, any suggestions how to get the PostSession file working or even another way to run the logout command?

  • Gnome run command source .bashrc

    Hi, after using just xmonad for a long time I'm now trying to get gnome and xmonad to play nicely together.  I am starting my gnome-xmonad session from GDM which was started with runlevel 5 in inittab--I followed the wiki.  Now in gnome, the run command dialogue (alt-f2) does not seem to source my ~/.bashrc.  I use an xmonad run util and under gnome-xmonad that run util does not source my ~/.bashrc either.  I have my PATH specified in my .bashrc but I cannot run the commands that rely on the path set in .bashrc.  I do have a ~/.bash_profile which sources ~/.bashrc, so that is not the issue.  In a terminal, my path is fine, but not from those run dialogues.  The xmonad run util worked fine when I would start xmonad with startx.  Any advice on how to get gnome to source my ~/.bashrc?

    I don't know about sourcing your .bashrc in gnome, but you are probably better off moving your PATH definition to your .bash_profile, before you source the .bashrc.

  • HR runtime error on agent login/logout

                       Good afternoon.
    Has anyone run in a a runtime error when running agent login/logout reports? I am unable to run this report.
    a runtime error occurred while executing the inquiry. i know there used to be bugs on this but.
    uccx, ha, 8.5.1. i have included the log. Thank you for any assistance.

    I removed my deployments from the remote OC4J server and removed deployment entries from http-web-site.xml and server.xml. I redeployed my simpleJSP bibean application to my local and remote OC4J server. It works locally but fails now with this new error:
    javax.servlet.jsp.JspException: BIB-10310 An unknown exception occurred.

  • The GNOME login manager crashes upon booting

    Every time I start up Arch, I get a window with a sad face in a computer saying that there was a problem and I have the option to log out which does nothing. The only way I am able to access my desktop is to open another terminal, manually log in, and run "startx." The login manager appeared one time but I have no clue how it happened. This is a fresh install of Arch that I installed yesterday. I am not familiar with troubleshooting so could you tell me what logs to post here? Here is a log file named :0.log which was located in the GDM log folder. This might say something about my issue.

  • [SOLVED] Gnome login hangs on the first try

    Since this past weekend, when I try to log into gnome, it accepts my password and greys out the password entry box, but just sits there forever. If I hit escape it aborts properly, and the second try always works. Where should I be looking to see what's going wrong the first time?
    I'm also having another, more serious problem that may be related: whenever the "Authentication Required" window pops up for a settings change or mounting another disk, it gives me the same greyed-out hang. But trying again doesn't work, since cancelling it cancels the attempt altogether - the next try just hangs again. As it is I can only do any root operations through the command-line; gnome is totally neutered by this. So -- what is this gksu-like functionality of gnome 3 properly called, and how do I debug it? Does it have a log somewhere I should look for?
    Last edited by jorenko (2014-03-25 11:02:19)

    I've restarted polkitd on the command-line without --no-debug, and it shows NO relevant information at all. After cancelling the grayed-out dialog, I get:
    Error performing authentication: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Cancelled: Authentication dialog was dismissed by the user (polkit-error-quark 1)
    21:54:02.838: Operator of unix-session:2 FAILED to authenticate to gain authorization for action org.freedesktop.policykit.exec for unix-process:10885:60499253 [bash] (owned by unix-user:jorenko)
    But there's nothing from when I entered my password and the graying-out began.
    Interestingly, when I used --replace to replace the polkitd that systemd had started for me, I got only command-line auth (gnome wouldn't launch the dialog at all, and "pkexec echo hi" gave me a command-line password prompt), which actually worked. But when first stopping the systemd version, then running it again manually, I got the above result.

  • Boot up, Login / Logout very slow

    Hi all,
    I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro (Dual Quad Core 2.6, 12GB RAM, 1TB 7200 HD). The computer all of a sudden became extremely slow at normal tasks (opening a Finder window, running commands on Terminal). I ended up doing a clean install of Mavericks (previously running Snow Leopard) after trying all else (which took much longer than usual).
    Unfortunately now, the computer takes ages to boot (read: 10-15 minutes) and another 5 minutes to log in and out. This is a fresh install of Mavericks so it's nothing wrong with the PC. I did a diagnostic test on the Hard Drive and it passed. Also got TechTools Pro and ran tests on the RAM, Video Card and SMART on the HD and it passed. I couldn't boot into AHT (Apple Hardware Tools) for some reason (both D and Option D during bootup).
    One thing I did notice was that, before I reinstalled Mavericks, when I did a PRAM reset at boot and then booted with Verbose mode, bootup happened much quicker (2 minutes). However, after logging in it slowed down considerably.
    I have no idea where the fault is. Even if it is a hardware fault, I can't begin to think where it might be.
    AppleCare is likely out of question for me but I'm tech savvy so I don't mind replacing hardware myself.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Update: Seems like regular tasks tend to slow down after a few minutes into login...

  • Mobile Account Login/Logout Sync Not Skipping Inputted Items

    I'm running a Leopard Server 10.5.6 Advanced Config ODM.
    No matter what I put into the Login & Logout Sync tab underneath "Skip items that match any of the following" it still syncs everything.
    I enter "ends with" ".mp3", "mp3" and it still syncs the test MP3s I put onto the desktop for the user.
    I ask it to not sync ~/Documents and it still syncs the test documents I put into that folder.
    This user is set to sync at login and logout with no background sync. The client machine is using 10.5.6.
    Merge with user's settings NOT checked
    Background Sync > Never
    Option > Never
    Account Creation > Creation
    Create mobile account when user logs in to network CHECKED
    Create home:
    with default sync settings: CHECKED

    Thanks for the reply.
    Under
    GROUP->PREFERENCES->MOBILE->RULES
    Login and Lougout Sync->Always
    Sync at login and logout->Checked
    Merge with user's settings->Not Checked and never has been.
    Unfortunately, that can't be it
    Here are some screen shots of my settings. As you can see Background sync is not enabled.
    Nevermind, it won't let me attach files.

  • SSH SUDO passwordless to run commands on remote server

    Hi Experts,
    We are running various OS/Network and Database related commands and scripts on Local and Remote Server to perform/compare the results
    As part of this activity, we have bottleneck on running commands/scripts on the remote server as we need to provide password everytime whenever we use SSH command
    Also, we need to run command as ssh sudo su - oracle for security purpose which prompts password two times.
    we would like to automate this process in order to save password securely(temporarily) while running ssh sudo commands/scripts.
    I see, there are various solutions using SSHPASS,EXPECT commands, however we dont have anything available to use within our group.
    We may not be able to use SSHPASS as this component not installed during VM build, so we left with only option to use EXPECT.
    So, Need your help to get any example working script using EXPECT for ssh sudo passwordless connection.
    Appreciate if anybody can share ideas or working scripts
    Thanks in advance

    FWIW, here is a small script that I wrote several years ago that may help you to automate the password less ssh setup with a remote system. I just verified it and changed it to create a RSA key. The script still works and runs fine under Oracle Linux and Mac OS X.
    Simply create a script called "passwordless-ssh" with the content shown below.
    Assign execute privileges: chmod u+x passwordless-ssh
    Then run the script as following:
    ./passwordless-ssh user@target_hostname_or_ip
    The script will create a ssh RSA private and public key, prompt for the remote host password and the copy the pubic key to the remote host. A subsequent ssh login to the remote host should no longer prompt for the password. It is essential however that the scrips runs in an interactive session, which is verified.
    #!/bin/bash
    # Creating SSH public RSA key if non exist and copying it to remote target
    # for passwordless SSH login.
    # Author: Catch 22, Oracle OTN, 28-APR-2015
    # Arguments: $1 (ssh login to remote target)

    # Output: 0 = interactive, 1 = non-interactive

    f-log()
    # Display messages in interactive mode, or write output to syslog

    # to a logfile if the syslog logger interface command is not available.
    # Input: $1 = text
       if f-mode; then
          echo "$ME: $1"
       elif hash logger; then
          logger "$ME: $1"
       else
          echo "$ME:`date`: [logger] Cannot execute, aborting" >> $LOGFILE
          echo "$ME:`date`: $1" >> $LOGFILE
       fi
    # Exit and show error if current session is not interactive.
    [ ! f-mode ] && f-log "[session] non-interactive, aborting" && exit 1
    keyfile="$HOME/.ssh/id_rsa"
    [ -z "$1" ] && echo "Missing 'user@target_host' argument. Aborted." && exit 1
    if [ ! -f $keyfile ]; then

  • [solved] hook to run commands when user logs in? (before bash profile)

    Is there any way to run commands when a user logs in but before the bash profile is sourced?
    For example, I have a user account with a home directory on /tmp. When the user logs in, the home directory might not exist so there will be no .bash_profile to source. I want to run a script to create the directory if necessary and copy some files into it. How can that be done?
    I thought of putting something in /etc/profile or /etc/profile.d/, but I would like to run something before the user's shell and environment become active.
    I can use /etc/rc.local to do what I want, but I would prefer a hook to ensure that everything is set right when the user logs in.
    Any ideas?
    *edit*
    Solution
    In my case, I found that I could write my own shell script and set it as a login shell. In the script, I can configure everything I need before launching the interactive shell, then clean up anything after it exits.

  • Run command doesn't remember command history

    Hi All,
    I'm running Windows 8.1, my Run dialog ox is always empty as shown below. Could anyone guide as how to enable Run command history?

    Hi aniruddha.jagdale,
    Is this a domain environment ?Did the run history work correctly before ?Have you made any modification to this machines before ?Will the other history recorded for example the jump list ,windows explorer ?
    According to my experience ,the run history will be recorded by default and it is usually recorded in the following registry keys .
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ RunMRU
    For the options in the task and navigation properties ,please check the following options to have a check.
    We can try to login with another account to have a check .
    Best regards

  • How can I get all Login/Logout details

    How can I get all Login/Logout details of all SAP Users from SAP Server/Database of any one year? I am asking about SAP License User. Is their any Table or Report by which I can get these details? For example USR02(Logon Data) Table store the last login/logout details of SAP Users. So in same way is any table which store Users Login/Logout details through out a year or month.

    Hi Sudheer,
    Check this .
    You can find the transactions by a particular user from the transaction SM04.
    SM04 gives you the details of the users logged in,terminals,transactions the user is working on, the time he has logged in,no of sessions user has opened, and the memory used by the user's programs... all of that w.r.t to the client we login. but we can't get info like date and number of times the user has logged in.
    U can see tables:
    USR01 User master record (runtime data)
    USR02 Logon data
    USR03 User address data
    USR05 User Master Parameter ID
    USR12 User master authorization values
    plz rewards points if helpful
