Running examples from J2EE Tutorial

Has anyone been successfully running examples from
J2EE Tutorial on Creator?
I tried to import the JSP but Creator complains that it is
not an XHTML document. Clicking on the 'Convert to XHTML'
button or 'Preview...' button does not seem to do anything.
Openning the Source panel shows parsing problems on
<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h" %>
Does anyone know how to run these in Creator correctly?
- weijyh

Yes,
It runs successfully....
I have download the examples from Sun,
unzipped It into my Projektfolder and open it in Creator, start it and works fine ...
No error messages ....

  • Problems with Running the Examples in J2ee tutorial-asant utility

    Hello,
    I am just working on the examples given in the J2EE tutorials given by SUN.
    When trying to build the examples using the asant utility,I encounter an error message saying
    "BUILD FAILED"
    and it says some error with the build.xml file (C:\lib not found)
    I think i have all my CLASSPATH settings and PATH setting right.Can anyone suggets me a solution to this problem,so that i can go ahead with the details.
    Thanks
    Sandeep

    did you set the build.properties settings properly ?

  • Converter sample from J2EE Tutorial problem

    Hello all,
    I have built the ConvertApp using the J2EE as shown in the J2EE (which I highly recommend by the way --on-line or book version), but am getting the following error:
    (from Verifier log file):
         FAILED TESTS :
         Test Name : tests.web.elements.WebEjbReferencesElement
         Test Assertion : Web archive references to other beans homes test
         Test Description : Error: Class [ ConverterHome ] not found in WEB-INF/classes or WEB-INF/lib.
    For [ /ConverterWAR ]
    Error: class [ ConverterHome ] cannot be found within this jar [ ConverterWAR ].
    Error: Class [ Converter ] not found in WEB-INF/classes or WEB-INF/lib.
    For [ /ConverterWAR ]
    Error: class [ Converter ] cannot be found within this jar [ ConverterWAR ].
    ======
    I'm running Windows 2K (I did see a similar problem someone was having under '98) and I know this tutorial works under W2K. I also have confirmed all my environmental variables are correct.
    I am noticing that under the \j2eetutorial\examples\src\ejb\converter directory that I have a number of temp files (intermediate?). Specifically, if I use the Deploytool and select the ConverterApp in the tree view, I see three filenames that appear in the Contents window under the META-INF section:
    app-client-ic.jar
    ejb-jar-ic.jar
    war-ic.war
    Well, the temp files look like this (for example):
    app-client-temp21282.jar
    ejb_temp21276.jar
    web_temp21293.war
    I don't know if this means anything or not, as I seem to be getting the .ear, .war and .jar files when I deploy the ConverterApp without a problem.
    If I try to run the Client from the \j2eetutorial\examples\src\ejb\converter directory using the runclient command, I get the following:
    Application threw an exception:java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: ConverterHome
    The tutorial has a specific reference to this (p.43 in book) indicating a problem in the ConverterApp.jar file. I've undeployed, deleted ear, war, jar and temp files, and recompiled with ant (twice), thinking I must have skipped a step somewhere, but to no avail.
    Both these problems look suspiciously like environment or path issues, but I cannot see anything obviously wrong. I confirmed that I do have a ConverterHome.class file in the C:\j2eetutorial\examples\build\ejb\converter directory too.
    Has anyone seen this before who can share how to fix the issue?
    Thanks for the help!
    Jon

    I have the same problem when trying to run 'Converter' example on Sun Deployment tool.
    When I tried to use verifier for the ConverterApp I got the following message
    "Error: Class [ ConverterHome ] not found in WEB-INF/classes or WEB-INF/lib.
    Error: class [ Converter ] cannot be found within this jar [ ConverterWAR ]."
    When I tried to run the client app using the runclient command I got the
    following message
    "C:\j2eeDeployPractice\src\ejb\converter\runclient -client converter.ear -name converterClient -testauth
    No application client desriptors defined for: converterClient"
    Note: I was able to run the web client successfully when
    using this URL: "http://localhost:8000/converter/index.jsp"
    Any idea how to fix those error message is grealy appreciated.

  • Importing bundle of project files (from j2ee tutorial)

    I'm trying to import "guessNumber application" (http://java.sun.com/j2ee/1.4/docs/tutorial/doc/JSFIntro5.html) from <INSTALL>/j2eetutorial14/examples/web/ directory. How to do it in the RIGHT way (instead of copying this files to JDeveloper/.../myworks directory with the help of Windows Explorer)?

    Under the file menu in JDeveloper there is an import option that will let you create a project from the WAR file.

  • Problems with running applet from Java Tutorial

    Hello
    I'd like to compile applet from Lesson Applets, trail: Deployment, title of lesson: A Simple Network Client Applet. But at the beginning of the source code is written that it will work only with: JavaSE 5 version.
    * SwingWorker can be downloaded at:
    * https://swingworker.dev.java.net/
    * SwingWorker must be downloaded for JavaSE 5, but will be included
    * in JavaSE 6.
    Well, does anyone know about applet doing the same thing which would work in older versions of JDK?. Do I necessarily have to install JavaSE6?. I have J2EE 1.4SDK and I run into errors compiling this example.
    Cheers

    I've got another applet which was written for version 1.1 of Java. It compiles but when I run it, instead of letters of quote I get rectangles, positioned one next to the other. So I can't read the quote. What's wrong with this applet?. Here's the code of it:

  • Re: Case strange with an example of j2ee tutorial

    Sounds like a UI bug in deploy tool. You can always directly set the .xml for the env-entry in the ejb-jar.xml. It would look like this :
    <env-entry>
    <env-entry-name>DiscountLevel</env-entry-name>
    <env-entry-type>java.lang.Double</env-entry-type>
    <env-entry-value>0.05</env-entry-value>
    </env-entry>
    Then in the code :
    InitialContext ic = new InitialContext();
    Double discountLevel = (Double) ic.lookup("java:comp/env/DiscountLevel");
    --ken

    Did you try looking up for "jdbc/BookDB" only?

    When come to run the client application I got the following error:
    The command:
    E:\Dev\src\J2EE_J2EE_tutorial\examples\ears>runclient -client CarApp.ear -name CartClient -textauth
    The error:
    Application threw an exception:java.io.IOException: CarApp.ear does not exist
    The deployment complete without error.
    I tried to the the APPCPATH to :
    set APPCPATH=E:\Dev\src\J2EE_J2EE_tutorial\examples\ears\CartAppClient.jar
    set APPCPATH=CartAppClient.jar
    On both set, it gave the same error above.
    Did someone known the problem I have ?
    Thnaks

    hi ,
    I think u have given other disply name to your J2EE client ,
    Anyway check disply name of J2EE client through deploytool.
    u have to use that display name to access the j2ee client .
    suppose ur j2ee client displyname is testclient, u can use:
    runclient -client ConverterApp.ear -name testclient
    hope this will help u,
    babu.

  • Problems with running quote server from Java Tutorial

    Hello
    The problem is this: I try to run QuoteServer from java tutorial (Trail: Deployment
    Lesson: Applets, A Simple Network Client Applet) and server compiles but when I try to run it following message shows up:
    QuoteServer listening on port: 32769
    Exception in thread "QuoteServer" java.lang.NullPointerException
    at java.net.DatagramPacket.setData(DatagramPacket.java:244)
    at java.net.DatagramPacket.<init>(DatagramPacket.java:62)
    at java.net.DatagramPacket.<init>(DatagramPacket.java:78)
    at QuoteServerThread.run(QuoteServerThread.java:38)
    And then server stops. What's going on?.
    Cheers

    Line 38 of QuoteServer.java is: packet = new DatagramPacket(buf, 256);
    And that's where the problem is because in line 31 is written byte[] buf = null;
    And what I get when I run QuoteServer.java with gcj version of java (gives more clues) is:
    java QuoteServer
    QuoteServer listening on port: 32785
    Exception in thread "QuoteServer" java.lang.NullPointerException: Null buffer
    at java.net.DatagramPacket.setData(byte[], int, int) (/usr/lib/libgcj.so.6.0.0)
    at java.net.DatagramPacket.DatagramPacket(byte[], int, int) (/usr/lib/libgcj.so.6.0.0)

    at .GC_start_routine (/usr/lib/libgcj.so.6.0.0)
    at .__clone (/lib/libc-2.3.5.so)
    So the problem is with this null buffer. What enter in line 31 instead of null?.
    What values can byte[] reach except null?. I tried to find byte[] in java API but there is only Byte variable. I get the same output with java 5.0 compiler (but less clues).

    Add this into your
    CLASSPATH
    <Drive you install Tomcat In>:\Apache Tomcat 4.0\common\lib\servlet.jar
    (This enables Tomcat to find the servlet class files)
    CATALINA_HOME
    <Drive you install Tomcat In>:\Apache Tomcat 4.0
    You should also read the documentation that comes with your Tomcat
    Hope this helps!
