Running my widget plug-in within Xcode

Hi there
I have a widget plug-in I am developing in Xcode. Is there a way to run my plug-in from within Xcode instead of guessing if the plug-in is working when testing my widget in Dashcode?
I should mention I don't require a GUI when running the plug-in from within Xcode, I simply write to standard error with calls to NSLog.

That's the whole point, nothing is appearing in the Console window.
Can't find a decent gdb tutorial.
Was hoping someone might enlighten me to know I could make Xcode run my plug-in like a command line app that prints to standard out/error.

Speed up your Dashboard
Every widget creates a cache file. In theory, these cache files are meant to speed up Dashboard performance. But, the cache files can get bloated or corrupted, resulting in the exact opposite effect. If your Dashboard seems to be running unusually slow, you may want to try clearing those caches.
Go to:
YourUserFolder/Library/Caches/DashboardClient
You’ll find a cryptic set of folders with no names, just numbers. Delete everything inside the “DashboardClient” folder.
In order to complete the process, you need to restart the Dock (it controls Dashboard). You can do this in two ways:
Type in the Terminal:
killall Dock
This will quit and restart the Dock.
Open the Activity Monitor application (in your Utilities folder). Type “dock” in the search field. Once you find it, select it and hit the “Quit Process” button. The Dock will quit and restart.
That’s it. You’ve successfully cleared the cache files for your widgets. For me, this resulted in a significant performance boost. Dashboard is actually usable again.
Note: If you run several widgets, it will probably take several seconds for Dashboard to display the info in each widget the first time it’s activated after clearing the caches. Dashboard needs to rebuild the cache for each widget. Don’t be alarmed when they initially come up blank.
It should also be noted that the caches do NOT hold the actual data in the widgets. So, if you’re running widgets like, Mint, iClip lite, or Daily Grind Timer, the data will NOT be lost by clearing the cache.

I have no intention of ever using Photos, in fact, having to abandon Aperture takes me one step close to moving back to Windows, but I digress.
I just want to NOT have to kill the Photos app every time I plug in my phone.

I am still seeing the option Image Capture, like shown in the screenshot that Rysz posted. But it is another example of the hide-and-seek Apple likes to play with us.
The option has to be set for each device individually. With the device connected to USB, you have to click the tiny disclosure triangle in the lower left corner of the sidebar to reveal the option.
I was perfectly happy with the program I paid for (Aperture), and now to maintain the functionality I have to pay for another application (LightRoom) to get the functionality that I paid for in Aperture.
Aperture 3.6 is working well with Yosemite. I will use it, as long as I have a Mac, that will run Yosemite or a compatible system.
Have you looked at Capture One? It looks much more similar to Aperture than Lightroom.

How to run a top down allocation within BPC NW

Hi,
I tried to reply the "How to run a top down allocation within BPC NW" i've found in the SDN download area. I made step by step the same of the paper i check several times all the Scripts the package, the process chain, but i haven't found any mistake.
I made from the beginning in another appset, copy from appshell
But my result isn't the same as in the paper. My final template is empty without data.
After running the package (it ends without error) i check the detail and in the formula log
in some lines it says things like "No records generated" or "records queried out".
I don't know what happens.
Anybody who had tried before, could help me?

Hi,
Based on the Entity dimension sheet provided in the How to guide, the allocation should be done in the ratio of 15:70:5:10. If you have maintained the same and the amount you want to allocate is 50000, then the allocation will be 7500, 35000, 2500, and 5000.

There is no C# plugin for XCode but you should check out MonoDevelop if you want to do C# developing on a mac

thanks for your answer. Yes indeed HTML widgets run only full screen (snif snif). I consider this as a "distinguishing treatment".
One solution i read !!!!! was to create through keynote a countdown clock, to export to quicktime move and to imported at iBA predefined widgets. of course this is not the solution i need.
So, in order to have at the same widget and run together a count down clock and a preview test (20 questions) i must
1)"hack" the preview widget and insert a countdown clock
2) create a preview test using iAD.....

Will run in Automator, won't run as Finder plug-in

Here is my setup:
Desktop:Folder A:Folder B
I created a simple Automator workflow to:
move Folder B to the desktop,
copy Folder A to a thumb drive
move Folder B back into Folder A
(I want to copy Folder A to the thumb drive MINUS Folder B)
This script runs within Automator, but when I save it out as a Finder Plug-In and run it via right click, it gives me this error:
"AppleScript Error:
Can't make file "HD:Users:ThisUser:Desktop:Desktop" into type alias.
(-1700)"
This error appears after Folder B is moved the first time, but before Folder A is copied.
Any help?

I am not quite sure why you are getting a path in the error message that has a duplicate "Desktop" but that is likely the source of your error.
Generally Automator workflows require some input and with the contextual Finder plug-in that normally means whatever is selected in the Finder at the time the workflow is run. This can be avoided by making the first Automator action ignore any input through selecting the "Ignore Results from Previous Action" command found for example in the Files/Folders drop-down menu at top right of the "Get Specified Finder Items".
Another way to do what you want without having to move folders:
1) Get Specified Finder Items - specify the parent folder of Folder A & B
2) Get Folder Contents
3) Filter Finder Items - specify "Whose" to Name Does not contain Folder B
This should give you a listing of items that includes only Folder A which could then be saved to the thumb drive by using the Copy Finder Items action.

Running a "heavy" program from within a java class

Dear Java programmers,
I 'm trying to run a software called surflex from within a java class, using the following java command:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec( new String[ { "/bin/bash", "docking_script_2.bash"} );
For convenience I've created the following simple bash script but for some strange reason surflex is not executed:

surflex-dock-v211-linux.exe proto drug.mol2 receptor_hydro.mol2 p1;
surflex-dock-v211-linux.exe dock drug.mol2 p1-protomol.mol2 receptor_hydro.mol2 >& 1OHR_A_output.txt;
Can anybody help me on that (ignore the arguments, they are correctly set)? I'll try to find another, more generic example, but so far I've noticed that the same thing happens with unix grep command.

I think if you want to invoke a bash shell and give it a command to execute, you need to do
/bin/bash -c commandrather than
/bin/bash commandAccordingly, your call to exec should look like
exec( new String[ { "/bin/bash", "-c" "docking_script_2.bash"} );Beyond, that, I'd suggest the following as general debugging tips and best practices:
* As the first line of the bash script, include a line that does something simple, like touch a file, so you can see if the script is executing at all.
* In Java, call Process.waitFor(). Its return value is the process' exit value.
* Make sure you're gobbling stdout and stderr from the process, and giving stdin any input it needs. You'll have to do this for the process to run correctly, and you can also use what you read from stdout and stderr to debug the execution of the process. * You may wan to look into ProcessBuilder, rather than Runtime.exec. I haven't used it myself yet, but apparently it's supposed to be the preferred way to execute external processes.

How to run a batch file from within an Oracle 9i Form?

Hi, I would like to execute a batch file from within an oracle form - I'm assuming there's some PLSQL command I can use? I am not allowed to use any third party libraries, and I'm hoping I can get away without having to progam any C or Java to do it. I don't want to run my java program from my form, but my lecturer is insisting on it.

Run-Time Error '6' Overflow within BEx Analyzer after copy/paste query

Hi all,
User is getting a "Run-time error '6' overflow" message which is caused after copying any query in a 'query pack' to any free row/column within the same sheet (BEx Analyzer). This "query pack" has multiple queries within one sheet and covers 1800 rows so there is enough free space left for copying one of the queries to another position in the same sheet.
Microsoft Office Excel SP2 is used which is part of MS Office professional edition 2003. The BW version is 3.0.
Please let me know if more details are required or above mentioned error message is recognized and can be explained.

Hi VRV,
This error is caused whenever there is memory issue. If your query is built on a cube which has a BWA index then this problem can be related to the issue with the BWA server. Check your BASIS team to check if there is memory issue presently in the BWA server.
Sometimes the issue is temporary, where the several users accesing the reports to fetch data from BWA lead to this type of error as the BWA gets overloaded. Try exiting the report and run it after some time again.
Alternatively you can also try restricitng the selection for fetching the data in the report as suggested.

[ID CS6] Having the project build directly into the Plug-ins folder - Xcode

Hello everyone
I'm just starting to develop plugins for InDesign CS6 on Mac OS X. After building the project, I currently move manually the plugin into the Plug-ins folder. It is said in the documentation that for having them directly into the Plugins folder, we need to specify it in the ID_SDK_DIR variable in each Target on Xcode. However, I can't find that variable anywhere and I have no idea what I should do in order to accomplish it.

How to get applets running with Java Plug-in on Win but also on Mac OS X???

I've converted to the use of Java Plug-in for my applets, but I need to have those same applets executable from browsers on Mac OS X platform. Surely this has been done, but I don't see how. The browsers I've tried on Mac OS X (Netscape, IE) don't seem to recognize the <OBJECT> tag used for the java plug-in. I've seen no news about the Java plug-in being ported to Macs. How can one get the same applet to run with the Java plug-in on Windows browsers, and also to run with at least one of the common browsers on Mac OS X? Any help would be SO much appreciated!

Those ten dukes look good to me. But the passing of fifteen months has me thinking you've probably moved on. In any case, here's my effort.
I've been through a trial trying to get my applet, developed with 1.4.1_03, to run on my Mac OS X v.10.2.6 in multiple browsers. I'm posting my results here. Comments and feedback are welcome.
JVM support for 1.4.1 is limited to the Safari browser. All other browsers running in Mac OS X that I've tried ( Camino, Opera, Internet Explorer, Mozilla ) are using the 1.3.1 plugin. According to a bug report by Mozilla on this topic ( see Bugzilla Bug # 197813 http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=197813 )
with the release of Apple's version of Sun's Java 1.4.1 the applet programming model has changed, and only Safari has adapted with this change. Other browsers, according to the report, could not because of a lack of documentation. The use of the MRJCarbon plugin offered by Mozilla (here - http://www.mozilla.org/oji/MRJPluginCarbon.html) only allows Mozilla to use the J 1.3.1. And I have not found any information on the Microsoft site about how to get IE 5.2 to recognize the newer version of Java.
Regarding the use of the OBJECT tag in Safari, it is a matter of debate. A current post on this topic exists in the Applet Development forum:

In my experience, I have not been able to determine that Safari v1.0 recognizes the OBJECT tag. My experience is that the APPLET tag is required to run applets in Safari. The Bugzilla report echoes the problem with the BadMagicNumber error that can arise in Safari. Nonetheless, I enjoy Safari and I enjoy Mac OS X.
