Running scripts in a stored proc
Does anyone know how to run a script within a stored procedure in Oracle on a Windows 2000 server. I have a script called test.sql which i want to run but when i execute the stored procedure I get an error stating that it is an invalid SQL statement. I have tried two different methods within the stored procedure. The first being
execute statement := '@D:/file1/test.sql';
EXECUTE IMMEDIATE execute_statement;
The second was just
@D:/file1/test.sql; OR
start D:/file1/test1.sql;
They all gave the same error. If anyone could provide some information on how to do this within the stored procedure it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Running a pl/sql stored proc in parallel on Unix
Environment : Sun OS 5.6
Oracle 8.1.6
I have this unix shell (my_shell.sh) that runs every night
which has the following code snippet..
no_of_parallel_runs = <some integer>
while [ $param -lt $no_of_parallel_runs ]
do
y = 'my_sql_shell.sh $param' &
(increment param here)
done
wait
(other processing)
where my_sql_shell.sh is
sqlplus -s [username]/[passwd]@[dbname] <<!
exec my_stored_proc(&¶m)
The above would kick off execution of my_stored_proc 'n' number of times
almost simultaneously..
How does this affect performance Vs running the above one after another for
each value of $param?
The procedure does a lot of selects, inserts, updates and deletes.
Thanks in advance.
nullHi,
We are not having a Web Agent here. So i am unable to use PLSXML utility.
I installed XSU and is now able to create the XML, but with the table attribute names as the tags. So
1. Is there a way I can transform this XML to another XML with custom tags ( using an XSL ) in a PL/SQL procedure ?
2. Is there a way I can install and use PLSXML without the web agent ?
Thanks, Hari -
Can we run a stored proc script from Unix console?
Hello all:
One of my colleagues insists that she used to run a stored proc file, say, abc.proc from a Unix console, with some command. I suspect the "command" is actually a script that invokes sqlplus commands. I never knew a stored proc script can be ran by any built-in Unix command, other than that in sql*plus console.
Anyone can prove me wrong?
Thanks,
JohnnyHi Johnny,
Unix shell doesn't have any means of compiling and/or executing PL/SQL code. You need a client (a driver) to make database calls, like sqlplus. So I think your assumption is correct.

Nikolay -
Stored Proc running twice using DBMS_Scheduler
Hello all,
I have a vb front end that calls a main stored proc which submits scheduler jobs to execute several stored procs asynchronously. Everything is working, except the part that the several stored procs are running twice. In the troubleshooting, I have eliminated the front end from being the culprit and the stored procs themselves. Essentially, when I call the stored proc using dbms_scheduler.create_job, it runs twice, even manually. I am about at wits end trying to figure out why: Using Oracle 11gR2
I started off setting up the programs
begin
--create program
dbms_scheduler.create_program
( program_name => 'prog_name'
,program_type => 'STORED_PROCEDURE'
,program_action => 'usp_sub_proc_1'
,number_of_arguments => 8
,enabled => FALSE
dbms_scheduler.DEFINE_PROGRAM_ARGUMENT
( program_name=> 'prog_name'
,argument_position=>1
,argument_name => 'name'
,argument_type=>'VARCHAR2'
/*the remaining 7 arguments are in code but not display for space reasons*/
dbms_scheduler.enable('prog_name');
end;Then the main stored proc executes this code:
declare v_job_name varchar2(100);
v_1 varchar(50) := 'All';
v_2 varchar(50) := 'All';
v_3 varchar(50) := 'All';
v_4 varchar(50) := 'All';
v_5 varchar(50) := 'TEST';
i_6 integer := 1;
v_7 varchar(50) := 'TEST_NE';
ts_8 timestamp := current_timestamp;
begin
v_job_name := 'uj_dmo_1';
dbms_scheduler.create_job (v_job_name
,program_name => 'prog_name'
,job_class => 'UCLASS_1'
,auto_drop => TRUE
--set parameters
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,1, v_1);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,2, v_2);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,3, v_3);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,4, v_4);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,5, v_5);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,6, to_char(i_6));
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,7, v_7);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name ,8, to_char(ts_8));
--enable job
dbms_scheduler.enable(v_job_name);
--execute job
dbms_scheduler.run_job(job_name => v_job_name , use_current_session => FALSE);
end;
...And this is where I get the double execution of the job, but I am just not seeing it in my syntax, dba_scheduler_jobs, logging, etc. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks!!Well apparently I will not win any Captain Obvious awards;
With 34MCA2K2's response with "what doesn't work" for some reason turned the light on. After some more testing here is what I found.
This code works as expected :
Exhibit A
begin
dbms_scheduler.create_job (job_name =>'TESTER'
,job_type => 'PLSQL_BLOCK'
,job_action => 'declare test1 integer := 1; begin test1 := test1 + 5; end;'
,auto_drop => True
/*dbms_scheduler.enable('TESTER'); */
dbms_scheduler.run_job(job_name => 'TESTER', use_current_session =>FALSE);
end;As does this:
Exhibit B
begin
dbms_scheduler.create_job (job_name =>'TESTER'
,job_type => 'PLSQL_BLOCK'
,job_action => 'declare test1 integer := 1; begin test1 := test1 + 5; end;'
,auto_drop => True
dbms_scheduler.enable('TESTER');
/*dbms_scheduler.run_job(job_name => 'TESTER', use_current_session =>FALSE); */
end;Exhibit A will create the job and is visible in the schedulerjobs view, and the RUN_JOB will execute it even when not enabled, but the pl/sql will not drop the job.
Exhibit B will create the job and once enabled, executes the job and then drops from schedulerjobs view.
Therefore, my desired results for running the jobs once asynchronously and dropping immediately is....
begin
v_job_name := 'uj_dmo_1';
dbms_scheduler.create_job (v_job_name
,program_name => 'prog_name'
,job_class => 'UCLASS_1'
,auto_drop => TRUE
--set parameters
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,1, v_1);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,2, v_2);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,3, v_3);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,4, v_4);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,5, v_5);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,6, to_char(i_6));
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name,7, v_7);
dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value(v_job_name ,8, to_char(ts_8));
/*enable job*/
dbms_scheduler.enable(v_job_name);
/*execute job (Do not execute the code below, it will lead to multiple executions)
dbms_scheduler.run_job(job_name => v_job_name , use_current_session => FALSE); */

ORA-03113 error when running the Java stored proc demos
Hi there,
Has anyone else run into this issue. When attempting to transfer an object type from Java to Oracle - through a Java stored proc - the session crashes with:

I would appreciate some help with this. The code works fine in a Windows or Solaris environment but barfs on Apple. Truly annoying....
Anyone?
Thanks in advance,
AlexYes,
Apologies for not stating that information, Steve. Was a bit naughty of me! I guess the reason I didn't was because I just wanted to hear if anyone else running Oracle on Mac received such errors when executing the Java stored proc demos (specifically, the execution of PointRuntime.jDistance). Nevertheless, here's the relevant info from the trace file:

Run a plsql script that is stored in a database in forms
Hi there is it possible to run a plsql script that is stored in a database as a CLOB with parameter placeholders that will be replaced with the contents that will be inserted in a form? If it's possible how do I do this?
RegardsI don't think you can pass a parameter in Francois' example. You probably need a wrapper procedure as explaind by W1zard. So, the question pops up: why can't you create a stored procedure instead of an anonymous block in a clob column? If you do need it, it could look something like:
Code in the table:
begin
insert into emp(empno,ename)
values (:1, :2);
end;
{code}Wrapper procedure:
{code:java}
create or replace procedure call_script(i_empno in number, i_ename in varchar2) as
v_stmt varchar2(32000); -- CLOB is not possible, because execute immediate cannot use it.
begin
select replace(script_code,chr(13),chr(10))
into v_stmt
from script_table
where script_id = 1;
execute immediate v_stmt using i_empno, i_ename
end;
{code}

Here's how to pass XML as a parameter to an Oracle stored proc
This, or something like it, should be all over the web and I intend to do so.
The first sample has exactly what you need in order to pass "XML" as a parm to a stored proc.
http://www.oracle-base.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8468> Really, what is the difference between the 2?
"What is a...?" questions are easily answered by Google. Generally speaking, however, "JavaScript" is Netscape's implementation of ECMAScript, a scripting language primarily for client-side development for a web browser. "Java" is an entire platform, but typically refers to an object-oriented programming language that is typically compiled to bytecode and run in a virtual machine.
They're not the same thing at all.

SQL Server Stored Proc/Database Permissions
First of all, I'm not sure that I'm posting this in the correct place. I'm a Windows/Active Directory Engineer, looking for some guidance on how other companies are managing/maintaining what I'm about to describe.
We have a rather complex SQL Server environment with multiple two node clusters running multiple databases on each. On their own, rather simple. On each database there are different stored procedures that are being accessed by different service
accounts for different (mainly) web services.
Up until recently, we were running into issues deploying proper accounts and groups for this process. We've got a multi-domain environment with trusts between them. We follow IGDLA (AGDLP) to grant permissions... That is..
Account -------- Global Group --------- Domain Local Group
WebSvcAcct --- WebSvcAcct_Group ------ MyService_Group
The Global group is granted the permissions cross-domain, following AD Group Scoping. We currently track this, per service, in a Database access Spreadsheet, where we list the following in each successive column:
Service, Account, Global Group, Domain Local, Database Server, Database Name, Database Role, Stored Procs
Is there a tool/utility that can maintain this and allow Role-Based Access to it? How do other companies maintain database permissions?
Thanks in advance!!Hello,
Are you asking if there is something that can maintain your list or something that can help you with security?
Most companies use groups, much like you have there and either give access to the group or use it in combination with database roles. This simplifies many different aspects of reporting and auditing.
If you're asking about a utility, I don't know of any specifically for this but it shouldn't be too hard to make a powershell utility script to do this for you, interrogating AD, SQL, etc.

Stored proc to accept parameters at prompt
How do you create a stored proc in SQL so that when run in desk you can input parameters?
I have a simple stored proc but when I create in deski always get an error saying that it expects '@DateStart'.
here is the sproc ive used:
CREATE Procedure [dbo].[sp_redempt](@DateStart Datetime,@DateEnd Datetime) AS SELECT *
FROM redempt
WHERE planners.office = 'abc'
AND ProcessDate >= @DateStart and ProcessDate <= @DateEnd
-- running it in SQL ent mgr
exec dbo.sp_NCLredempt '01 february 2011', '28 february 2011';
can you help with the syntax I use or specify a simple stored proc using the adventure works DB that will prompt for a parameter in deski?
BO Edge XI 3.0
App server: MS Win2003 Server Standard SP2
DB server: MS Win2003 Server Standard SP2
DB on DB server: SQL 2005Hi,
this is not the best place to post this but you may try the SQL Server forums from Microsoft.
Might be an issue in your parameter type definition. What you can do is in
SQL Server Management Studio, go to the stored procedures (programability) under AdventureWorks database, and Right click -> Script Stored Procedure As -> CREATE to -> New Query Editor Window. Then there you will able to see the syntax how it's used.
You can run one sample procedure in Deski. In Designer create a secure connection to AdventureWorks database. Then create a Deski report based on the "uspGetManagerEmployees" procedure and you can use MnagerID 6 when you run it. You will get results. -
BPC5.1 - Data manager package to Stored proc with custom return codes
Hi all,
Does anyone have experience passing the return codes from a stored procedure back into the eData "view status" package progress or event log details?
When my stored procedure throws errors, the offending SQL code shows up in the pacakge details, which is helpful. But what I'd really like is to structure my stored proc with return codes
0 = everything's wonderful
1 = invalid category / time combination
2 = unauthorized
3 = no data to process
And then handle these codes as either "completed" "warning" or "error" in the package progress.
And ideally, I'd like to put some meaningful message about the warnings & errors, directly into the log details, so the user can fix the problem themselves rather than ask the IT guy to trouble-shoot.
Any tips? I've started playing with using the on-complete, on-success, on-failure routing of different tasks within the DTSX package (SQL 2005), but I'm just working on a trial-and-error basis right now. (With # of errors = # of trials.)
Thanks,
TimIn case anyone's interested, I've solved this by tracking my return codes as a package variable.
Within the package, I have conditional logic moving from task to task, evaluating the return code to check for various conditions, and selecting which tasks to perform accordingly.
In the last task, I run a final stored procedure which posts some data (completion time & status) to a custom transaction log table, and then if the return code is not zero, I script and execute some SQL which I know will throw a "fake" error. The SQL statement itself includes the key information I want the end user to see. For example
Select InvalidEntitySelection [USEast1],TransactionID [12340] from ThisTableDoesntExist
Select UnauthorizedUser [Tim], TransactionID [12345] from ThisTableDoesntExist
Select WorkStatusIsLocked [USEast1 Actual 2008], TransactionID [12345] from ThisTableDoesntExist
It's not exactly elegant, but it gets the message across, which is all that I need. In this way, the end user sees that the package failed with an error, and when they look at the package details, they can see the problem. They can pass on the transaction ID to an administrator to look into the details, if they can't figure it out on their own.
Sorin, I never managed to figure out how to use a VB task to send the information back to the user, plus force the package to end in an error. I'm sure there's a way to do so, but this seems to work for my requirement.
I'm not entirely happy with the "fake error" approach, but I don't know if BPC has any support for "intentional" programming of errors in the DTS scripting toolset.
Thanks,
Tim -
Business Objects XI R2 - Oracle Stored Proc - Deski report failing
Business Objects XI R2
Hi All,
I have a stored proc created in Oracle 10 - see bottom for code
I run a deski report on iit - using it as a datasource. This works fine in Desktop Intelligence until I schedule the report from infoview - then I get the following error...
"Object failed to run due to an error while processing on the Job Server"
My other deski reports based on Universes are ok.
create or replace procedure test_PROC1
(Test_Rpt_Cur OUT SYS_REFCURSOR)
is
begin
open Test_Rpt_Cur FOR
SELECT ID, FIRSTNAME, LASTNAME
FROM test_table;
end test_proc1;Hi,
Cause of this issue :
Once the Job Server recieves the scheduled job and spawns a new child process, the child process is unable to complete the job. The child process constantly is waiting to load the job. Looking further into the log and specifically the startup script, the -port option was incorrectly used (-restart-port) and didn't allow the child process to bind to the correct port using the correct DNS name.
In Order to resolve this issue follow the steps given below..
1.Open CCM
2. Stop Server
3. Right Click Server and go to Properties
4. insert -port option in to command line, example below
ex. "
win2k3\C$\ProgramFiles\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\win32_x86\JobServerFullClient.exe" -service -name win2k3.Desktop_IntelligenceJobServer -ns win2k3 -objectType CrystalEnterprise.FullClient -lib pp_procFC -jsTypeDescription "Desktop Intelligence Job Server" -maxDesktops 0 -restart -port win2k3.it.bo.example
5. Save setting and restart server.
Hope it helps.

Sql server stored procs migration to oracle
Can't I migrate only the stored procedures alone of sql server db to Oracle using sql developer? How to load the .ocp files with the stored procs I have?
Hi,
I don't know how to manually update the generated captured files (bat, ocp) with other information or even if it is possible, as the bat files extract data from the SQL*Server data dictionary information to populate the files for the load. If the stored procedures have already been created in the SQL*Server database then they will added to the generated OCP information. If you want to manually change the files then you'll have to work it out for yourself, I'm afraid.
If they are not in the SQL*Server database and exist only as the create statements in text files then you have 2 options, as far as I can see -
- either run the scripts to create the stored procedures in the database before running the migration
- use the translation scratch editor and put the procedure create SQL into that to convert to Oracle format -
Tools > Migration >Translation Scratch Editor
You need to be aware that translation of stored procedures isn't always automatically 100% completed and manual intervention is sometimes needed, depending on the complexity of the procedure and how it is written.

Error while Compiling Stored proc
I am having problem while compiling stored proc.It gives the following error
"Error while trying to retrieve text for error - ORA-03113"
I have my SQL file in which i am adding the input parameters (aroung 100 parameters). Till 53 parameters i added it created the procedure now after that i am adding the parameteres one by one but its giving the same error.
nullHi Minish,
Whatever you wrote in crontab is fine. But we can call a stored procedure from Shell Script provide the shell script must have a sql file which contain the procedure to be excuted.
Follow the things...
Assume that,
1. you have file called load.sql
it contains...
load_data;
2. your shell script must have this code
. /home/nimish/.profile
sqlplus scott/tiger@orcl_bk load.sql
*** make sure that sql file should have executable permissions
Good Luck

ORA-03113 with pool and stored proc
We are experiencing a strange error when calling a stored procedure using a
connection pool (WLS 5.1 SP10, Oracle 8). Everything works fine until the
stored procedure raises a user-defined exception. When the connection is
used again, we get the 03113 error. It appears that the connection is OK
due to the testConnsOnReserve not returning an error, but on the next stored
procedure call, the error happens. The database guys have no answers. Does
anyone have a clue?

now disappeared for all instances of this problem.
Thanks for the help!

We'll try this, but it seems to be connection-oriented. If we have a pool
of 5 connections, and an exception happens, only that connection seems tobe
affected. The other connections in the pool work fine, and the proc works
for those connections.
"Joseph Weinstein" <[email protected]> wrote in message

Hi.
The issue is likely related to our caching of PreparedStatements
for performance. If some DBMS failure occurs which could invalidate
a PreparedStatement/cursor such that it could never be re-used,
even after clearParameters) are called etc, then this case might
occur. Please take the attached jar file, and add it to the
weblogic.classpath ahead of the standard weblogic stuff, by
editing your startWebLogic script. This will turn off caching, and
should make the problem go away. Let me know...

Hi John,
I have researched about this - but could not find a known issue
which
may
be
related to this.
Which JDBC driver are you using?

We are experiencing a strange error when calling a stored procedure
using
a
connection pool (WLS 5.1 SP10, Oracle 8). Everything works fine
until
the
stored procedure raises a user-defined exception. When the
connection is
used again, we get the 03113 error. It appears that the connectionis OK
due to the testConnsOnReserve not returning an error, but on the
next
stored
procedure call, the error happens. The database guys have no
answers.
Does
anyone have a clue?
Here is an ouput log showing what happens (this was done with a
pool
with
only one connection):

How to compare the table, constraint, stored proc, view between 2 schema ?
Hi All,
We have two schema : app_test & app_prod :
app_test is where user run acceptance test, and where we make correction etc
app_prod is where user prepare data for going live/production.
Now we need to make sure that :
table structure
stored proc
view
function
sequence
constraint ...
Is the SAME between the two schema : Is there any script that can automate the process ?
Thank you very much,
xtantoYou may use TOAD, OEM, and use "ALL_" views to compare.
And also, take a look into the duplicate thread on this forums.
How to compare two oracle database schemas
You can also check in the google for any free tools for this !!

Sabdar Syed.
