Running the JAZN shell in Oracle 10g

Hello all,
I am a student taking the Oracle 10g DBA class. I am having trouble running the JAZN shell script that will allow me to use SYSDBA and SYSOPR profiles in iSQL*Plus. I was wondering if there was someone out there who could explain this script, what it does and help me locate where my proble is.
This is the script the book gives and say to run:
Setting up iSQL*Plus for SYSDBA and SYSOPER Access
These roles require special setup and authentication for security reasons. To do this you must set up a user in the Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE (OC4J) user manager and grant access to the webDba role for the user. You must set the JAVA_HOME OS environment variable to $ORACLE_HOME/jdk.
1. Change to the correct directory:
Cd $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/isqlplus/application-deployments/isqlplus
(I am able to get to this directory okay.)
2. Run the JAZN shell:
$JAVA_HOME/bin/java/-Djava.security.properties=$ORACLE_HOME \
/oc4j/j2ee/home/config/jazn.security.props-jar $ORACLE_HOME/oc4j/j2ee/home/jazn.jar-user “iSQL*Plus DBA/admin” \
-password welcome –shell
(When I run type the shell as written it doesn't look like anything happens. I am in the same directory as before. I did get an error a couple of times telling me that the directory /bin/java did not exist. When I try to go into the $JAVA_HOME directory is say that it does not exist.
--------------- I have never gotten past here ----------------------
Now what I gather from looking at this shell is that it creates an admin profile with a password of welcome.
3. Create a user, choosing a username and password:
JAZN> adduser “iSQL*Plus DBA” username password
4. Grant the webDba role to the user:
JAZN> grantrole webDba “iSQL*Plus DBA” username
5. Exit the JAZN shell:
JAZN> exit
This part looks like it is where you create the SYSDBA and SYSOPER profiles and passwords. You also grand these profiles webDba access. Then exit the shell.

Hello Werner,
I did have to install Java on my computer. I created a Java directory and in this directory I placed the jre1.6.0_18 file which I downloaded. This is the Java application. The path I placed it in is /usr/java/jre1.6.0_18.
I also looked at what I thought were all my environment varriables with the $ env command and saw nothing that refered to java or JAVA_HOME.
After setting JAVA_HOME i get an error:
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: .u01.app.oracle.product.10.2.0.db_1.oc4j.j2ee.home.jazn.jar-user
(I have no idea what this means)
My questions:
Is this the file that I should be pointing to? I do not understand what the /jdk directory is.
From what I could see from the link that you provided was the Oracle Application Server Installation Guide. Is this what you wanted me to read?

    I'm not sure does I understand your requirement good?
    But if so:
    You have 2 computers and from both you want to access one single Oracle database.
    If this correct then you need only on one machine to install XE Server and on another machine ONLY XE Client.
    After that you need to copy tnsnames.ora file from computer where XE server resides to according directory where XE client resides.

  • Can I run 32 bit version of Oracle 10g grid  on Linux x86-64?

    Since Oracle did not release 64 bit version of Oracle 10g grid for Linux X86-64. Can I run 32 bit version of Oracle 10g grid on Linux x86-64? If so did anyone tried this? and also any known issues?

    All I had to do was use the 32bit version of "/usr/bin/gcc" and "/usr/bin/g++" to run the installation
    That is:
    bin]# cp -p /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc_old
    bin]# mv /usr/bin/gcc /usr/bin/gcc323
    mv: overwrite `/usr/bin/gcc323'? y
    bin]# ln -s /usr/bin/gcc296 /usr/bin/gcc
    bin]# cp -p /usr/bin/g++ /usr/bin/g++_old
    bin]# mv /usr/bin/g++ /usr/bin/g++323
    mv: overwrite `/usr/bin/g++323'? y
    bin]# ln -s /usr/bin/g++296 /usr/bin/g++
    AFTER INSTALLATION REMEMBER TO
    move back the 64bit files to their former state.
    bin]#rm /usr/bin/g++
    bin]#rm /usr/bin/gcc
    bin]#mv /usr/bin/gcc_old /usr/bin/gcc
    bin]#mv /usr/bin/g++_old /usr/bin/g++

    Please help me how can I solve this problem and create the ODBC connection for oracle 10g database.

    could not locate the setup or translator libraryThe symptom described is typical of an incorrect system env PATH setting (used by the data source admin tool), compared to that of the Oracle Home (specifically, path $OH/bin). The odbc driver config routine will search directories listed in PATH variable for necessary libraries (Client dll's). If some library fails to load (from e.g. oraoci*.dll or oraclient10.dll) it will probably error out, as in your case.
    Are you creating the odbc dsn on the databse server host or on some other machine? I.e. are you using the db host as a client or not?

    Hi,
    Just check below link..would be helpful..
    http://www.oracle.com/global/ap/openworld/ppt_download/database_manageability%2011g%20overview_230.pdf
    and
    Each release of Oracle has many differences, and Oracle 10g is a major re-write of the Oracle kernel from Oracle 9i. While there are several hundred new features and other differences between 9i and 10g, here are the major differences between Oracle9i and Oracle10g:
    Major changes to SQL optimizer internals
    Oracle Grid computing
    AWR and ASH tables incorporated into Oracle Performance Pack and Diagnostic Pack options
    Automated Session History (ASH) materializes the Oracle Wait Interface over time
    Data Pump replaces imp utility with impdp
    Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM)
    SQLTuning Advisor
    SQLAccess Advisor
    Rolling database upgrades (using Oracle10g RAC)
    dbms_scheduler package replaces dbms_job for scheduling
    and you need to refer oracle documentation for sql, plsql references where you will know particular enhancements made...
    thanks

  • Give me the sql query which calculte the table size in oracle 10g ecc 6.0

    Hi expert,

    select segment_name, sum(bytes)/(1024*1024) from dba_segments where segment_name = '<TABLE_NAME>' group by segment_name;
    Hi,
    This delivers possibly wrong data in MCOD installations.
    Depending on Oracle Version and Patchlevel dba_segments does not always have the correct data,
    at any time esp. for indexes right after being rebuild parallel (Even in DB02 because it is using USER_SEGMENTS).
    Takes a day to get the data back in line (never found out, who did the correction at night, could be RSCOLL00 ?).
    Use above statement with "OWNER = " in WHERE for MCOD or connect as schema owner and use USER_SEGMENTS.
    Use with
    segment_name LIKE '<TABLE_NAME>%'
    if you like to see the related indexes as well.
    For partitioned objects, a join from dba_tables / dba_indexes to dba_tab_partitions/dba_ind_partitions to dba_segments
    might be needed, esp. for hash partitioned tables, depending on how they have been created ( partition names SYS_xxxx).

  • Need to have more info about the latest patch on Oracle 10g Release 2

    Please this is the follwing answer that was given to explain the purpose of patching the latest release of Oracle 10g release 2.
    We are applying the patch to the 32bit environment to resolve memory errors.
    This patch should be applied to the 64bit environments too as to maintain consistency in our database versions
    Personaly I don't believe the response is accurate to patch the database.
    Does someone can tell me where to find more information about the latest path of Oracle 10g release 2?
    Thanks a lot

    You can find more information about a patchset by going over the readme document associated with the patch. As such, it is not exactly clear what kind of information you are looking for.
    Login into Metalink=>Patches&Updates=>Simple Search=>
    Product or Family=> RDBMS
    Select your OS
    if will your a link to the readme file...
    Hope this helps
    Thanks
    Chandra

  • What's the latest patch for oracle 10g client?

    what's the latest patch for oracle 10g client? 6810189?

    The same as the patch for the Oracle database of the same version and operating system. Since you didn't specify the operating system or the particular Oracle version (10g could mean 10.1 or 10.2), it's hard to be more specific.

  • Stopping the Enterprise Manager Console (Oracle 10g on SuSE 9.1)

    I'm trying to stop the Enterprise Manager Console by issuing the command:
    ${ORACLE_HOME}/bin/emctl stop dbconsole
    Unfortunately, the command fails to stop the EM Console. Here's the output I get:

    Stopping Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Database Control ...

    failed.
    The only way I can stop the EM Console (and related services--i.e., emagent) is to kill its process.
    Everything (Listener, DB Instance, EM Console) starts fine. I can stop the Listener and DB Instance without any problems. It's just the EM Console shutdown that doesn't happen cleanly.
    Has anyone else encountered the same condition? If so, what was the solution?
    Here's my operating environment:
    SuSE 9.1 (Kernel 2.6.5-7.108-default)
    Oracle 10g
    Thanks in advance for any help/insight.

    Has anyone else encountered the same condition? If so, what was the solution?Yes. Shutdown/reboot of the system made the error go away.
    Sorry, no better clues,

  • "Error In Writing to directory ..."  getting the error while installing oracle 10g in laptop

    Hi
    I thought I'd make my first post a hijack of a vaguely related thread,
    then some kind moderator could separate it out and branch it off to a post of its own.
    I'm not even sure this is in the proper forum.
    But anyhow ...
    i am getting problem while installing oracle 10g in laptop its showing error as "Error in Writing to Directory C:\Users\Accent.Muthu\Appdata\Local\temp\OraInstall2011-03-03-10-51-53 AM.

    Try the few resolutions mentioned here -
    forms 10g installation  error in writing to directory
    Specially -
    do not try to install from directory which has a space in its path
    TMP and TEMP environment variables are set correctly, preferably to C:/tempRegards,
