Running w/ 30GB?

Is it possible to run with a 30GB iPod Video? Or will it ruin the internal disk? Would I be better off getting a shuffle or something to run with?

I used to run with my original 1st gen 5 gig iPod. I didn't run very much and kept it in a neoprene case clipped to the inside of my shorts so it didn't seem to bounce much. Lo, these many years later, it still works. I have heard that the original iPods were a bit sturdier than their later, higher capacity descendants. That being said, I agree with deggie. The Nano is much nicer to run with. I have a 3rd gen and a Nike+ Sport kit (you don't need Nike shoes to use it, by the way). I hardly feel it. Nano would be the way to go especially if you can get a good deal on one.

You'll probably be fine with it.
There's always a chance of a problem if you engage in really rigorous activity with a hard drive based iPod... but the chances are pretty good that nothing will happen during routine exercise.
Don't drop any freeweights on the iPod... that will surely cause a problem

I've been running a 30GB video ipod with ITunes on my mac but now I need to use it with XP. I don't necessarily need it to download from XP but I need it to charge and playback while I work. Do I have to reformat the ipod to connect to XP?

Sadly you will need to restore your ipod in windows to get it to work with XP, and that means that you will lose all your music unless you back it up on your mac first. iTunes for windows can be downloaded from apples website.

ITunes / Hard Drive Issue

My iTunes library (in the program itself) shows that I'm running approx 30GB of music. However, when using finder to look at my iTunes folders, they are showing content of over 40GB.
I'm pretty certain that whenever I've deleted content it has been straight to Trash (& then emptied).
Anybody got any clues as to what is taking up this excess content & how best to delete it?

Perhaps you have music in your folder that is not in the library. How do you have iTunes set to automatically organize music?
How intensive is your artwork collection? It seems to me that iTunes is building its own copy of my artwork despite it supposedly being included in the mp3 tags too. There's that and all the other files it makes that add another GB or so to my folder.

I just purchased a 30GB for one of my sons. Set up went find and several songs downloaded. We then erased the songs in itunes and set up a NANO that I got for my other son. Now nothing works.

You might have to do some experimenting from iTunes on your computer.
Several months back, I had a phantom 5G of video. I unchecked ALL video files and synced the iPad and the 5G was still there. I was able to delete the 5G and bring it back by repeatedly unchecking and checking the "Sync Movies" box.
A "Restore" solved my problem. Be forewarned that it's not quick:
Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."

Unable to run a video on my ipod 30GB

My ipod will not run a video.
Althogh I have run the latest download of i-TUNES and i-POD from the apple site, it looks as if my i-POD is not setup for video. With my i-pod linked into i-tunes, and if I go into EDIT/PREFERENCES/iPOD/VIDEO I am unable to 'highlight' any of the selections (eg "Automatically update all video's etc").
Also, although the 'iPOD Features Guide' (page 33)states that opening iTUNES and selecting iPOD in the source list, you can then update videos, I do not have 'iPOD' in the source list - So am unable to click 'options button' or 'Videos'.
Can anyone help?

When you connect it & open it WMP click on the SYNC tab of the program. Choose the files you want to sync to the computer then hit SYNC . The files should transfer to the computer. (check your settings as to where you want the files to go.)

30GB 5G Ipod no longer plays any video -HELP!

I have a 5G ipod purchased toward the end of 2005. It always worked great until I went to play a video the other day. My ipod crashes every time I try to play any video, whether downloaded from itunes, homemade, anything. This isn't an issue of needing to turn the TV-Out setting off. I've tried restoring, reverting to previous firmwares (from 1.2.1 to 1.1.2 and 1.0, using itunes 7.2), formatting and restoring, everything I've seen on forums everywhere. It used to play video just fine, so I'm completely at a loss. If I select a video through the audio podcast area, it will play the audio portion. When I try to play videos properly, the screen stays blank and no longer accepts input - I have to reset the ipod. I know that I'm out of warranty so I'm probably boned, aren't I?

I just purchased my 30gb video iPod, and am running into almost the exact same situation. The only difference is that I don't have to reset it. It just won't play a movie at all. It starts the little "timer" thing that clicks around, but then goes back out of the movie. I know the movie is a good download, because I can watch it from start to finish within iTunes.
Anyone got any ideas? I really don't want to stay on hold for 1-2 hours waiting on a person to talk to with tech support!

30GB of space disappears on External Drive after failed DMG copy via USB

I have a 298.1 GB external Western Digital hard drive connected to my iMac by a USB 2.0 cable. It is formatted in NTFS-3G so I can use it with both my PC and Mac. Yesterday in Disk Utility I created a 50GB 256-bit encrypted DMG and told Disk Utility to save it on a folder in my external drive. It got to about 20GB and then my house's power went out. A few hours later when the power came back on, I turned on my computer, and the available space on my external hard drive went down from about 100GB to 68.21GB.
The first thing I thought was that the DMG transfer ended prematurely so I should just find and delete the incomplete DMG from the hard drive. So I went to the folder I saved it in and it was not there. I checked all the folders and I couldn't find any DMG in there. Then I went to the root of the external drive and used Get Info to find the space each folder took up. It adds up to 194.12 GB. So I subtracted 194.12 from 298.1 and got 103.98. If I'm supposed to have 103.98 GB, why do I only have 68.21 GB available? I double and triple checked the size of everything on the disk and I still should have about 30GB more than I do. The 30GB just disappeared.
I tried verifying the disk in Disk Utility and got:

I tried restarting my iMac and disconnected and reconnecting the cable and that didn't work. I plugged it into my PC and it still says that all the files on my external drive add up to 194.12 GB. Which still means I should have 103.98 GB of free space instead of 68.21 GB.

This is my first post here. I am a forum user so Ill try not to be a troll. I did get done pouring over the threads here for hrs too.
So I went shopping for my first media player a while ago. I read all the reviews I could on every player known to man (CC is a great retail web site to get reviews and the bay). Well the Zen:M seemed to take the cake as the best player for a demanding seasoned tech user. And really just plain over all.
So I bought a 30gb player from a private online seller (you can guess) and after getting it up and running found all the reviews to be true. Infact I even loved it more than I anticipated. However my experience was cut short. I had finished using the player, turned it off (it fully shut itself down), placed it in my coat pocket and draped the coat over a chair when it suddenly fell out of my coat onto a hard wood floor. Now the unit was in a thin silicon skin and could not have fallen more than 2ft (more like ft) and that was all folks. Dead as a door nail. No power up, no ?help me? when connected to the comp, no rest button, nothing. All it did when connected was flash the power/hold button charge light abnormally fast with a clicking sound? Huh? I think the battery somehow came disconnected. ?To anyone reading this, are all these fine players this sensiti've to vibration? Yeah I know its a HD player, and no one wants to see their player dropped, so is this the norm?
Which brings me to my new ZVM60. Love it. The only difference I notice, other than the size (getting to that) is it seems the touch sensor is slightly more sensiti've. Great, I like that! Now the size. It should be noted that as of now this 60gb player is WIDELY mis-documented as being the same size as the 30gb. Infact a well known web retailer I bought this from is a culprit of this also. I also bought an extended 2 yr warrantee after this past incident. However Im having a real hard time finding a skin or case for it. The leather one doesnt appeal to me sorry. I searched the threads here and am finding nothing. Anything new come around since? Id love to get a ToughSkin for it but am not holding my breath. I dont mind having a player that by all standards is a TANK. Just let me protect my tank. On that note, anyone know why the 60gb is bigger? I thought all PCMCIA HDs were the same size.
Lastly, Im using this player with a properly maintained XP computer with WMP0. I rip all my store bought CDs at 28 in WMA. This and some ripped vinyl is how the player is primarily used. Am I missing anything? Also the player has firmware ver .0.04 , is it worth updating? Im kinda leary to update having been around BIOS flashing nightmares back in the day. Will I loose all my data doing a firm update? Also, I dont know if anyone out there is doing this but I heard the newer Alpine car stereos can work with a bare bone external HD filled with audio files. I got that info from a few reliable sources. Anyone doing this and know what file format these heads are compatible with? Id rather not have to keep my Zen in the car if I dont have to risk it. Also any takes on how Im doing things here are more than welcome.
So in conclusion I love my Zen. Id simply like a good skin to protect it with?? The GF has a coughPOD video, will see what she thinks of this not so little guy. Also will keep all up to date on any findings I have. Please do the same.

I will check out the web site. On that note thanks for it. However, as stated in the thread, the 60gb, EVER SO SAD, is a bit thicker than the 30gb. Im really praying some skins come out. Ive been playing with this player all night long. ON THAT NOTE, people complaining and having issues with the bass. I know where you are coming from. However a semi solution can be had with playing with the vol limiter in combo with the bass boost func and the custom EQ. Im sure this is no news flash to most techies out there. However being an audiofool (aka audiophile) and knowing a little about the hardware involved in all this. I have a really bad feeling, and bad track record of being right on this when Id rather not be, that this is infact an OP-AMP issue and power dedication issue too the afore mentioned. Firmware or not, you play with bass boost and EQ and there is no way to get this player to dedicate enough KICK, as its been termed here, to the headphones without distortion. I think this may be WHY there hasnt been a working firmware fix to this issue. I think some may not realize, as the old analogy goes, a chain is only as stong as its weakest link, and I have a BAD feeling that the OP-AMP is that link holding this fine player back. No bad feeling to those in the design depo. I know how cost concerns go and who those who dont know JACK dictate construction. Im sure you all tried your hardest to design the best player on the market. You suceeded in all regard IMO. Creative may be making some SERIOUS mistakes by not properly supporting their prodigy birth but dont give up on designing some killer players for us who do notice and infact buy. We buyers who do infact know and buy what is really best rely on you R&D and Designers out there, who I hope somehow read these threads, or get a heads up now and then, that we praise you and thank you for doing what no others out there do, by designing a player that really does meet the expections of the small market that has a brain and appreciates what you do. Can I run two ipods from the same itunes library/account?

I have a 20gb photo colour ipod and have just bought a new 30gb video ipod. I need to know whether I can run them off the same library and itunes account or do I have to have separate user accounts?

You can either have multiple user accouts on your computer, or create separate playlists for your two iPods in iTunes.

i have a 30gb ipod video and my husband has a nano. i have itunes on my computer twice in different user accounts for our ipods but since installing the new itunes 7 my husbands itunes will not open it gives me an error message. i uninstalled his itunes and reinstalled but then i couldnt open my itunes. i reinstalled itunes 7 and now i am back to my original problem.
Can i have my ipod and my husbands nano run from the same itunes? will my library be added to his nano and will his nano library be added to my itunes? please help this is frustrating me.

Method Two in the article is the method my wife and I have used in the past. I had mine set up to sync my playlists, plus the recently added playlist. That way if she added any music, I had 2 weeks that it would show up on my iPod, and give me time to move the song to one of my own playlists.

Zen Vision 30GB Firmware Problem - No solution wo

I have a Zen Vision 30GB (not a Zen Vision M or W, just a Zen Vision). On Friday I was trying to add songs to my Zen and halfway through adding the songs I got an error on the computer saying "player not connected". So I undocked the player, turned it off and reset my computer. Saturday morning I turned on my Zen to try to add songs again and I got the error message on my Zen?"Firmware Problem" and it put me in "Recovery Mode". The first thing I did was try to reload the firmware, but when I plugged the Zen to the computer it says "docked", but I cannot move through the menu. When I unhook it from the computer I can move through the menu. BTW I am running Windows Vista 32-bit. I have uninstalled the Zen software and installed the software off the Creative website for Vista, but when I try to run the firmware it says "Player not connected, please connect player."? When I plug the player in via USB my computer recognizes it and prompts me if I want to sync my player, so there isn't anything wrong with my USB connection. The?Device Manager recognizes it however Windows Media Player does not. I get the same error message when I try to do the Recovery Tool on the Creative website. I have looked for solutions on the forums and just doing Google searches, but I have not been able to get anything to work. Please help me!? The player is less than a year old. I have never had any problems with it before, never been dropped or anything like that, so i am not sure what is going on. Any help or suggestions would be great!? I sent an email to customer support yesterday and the reply I received this morning was no help. First they thought I had the Zen Vision M, even though I specifically said I had the Zen Vision and gave them the serial number and everything. I sent them back a message today and hopefully they can help, but it is frustrating having to send an email and wait around for a reply.

What I did was format>cleanup>reboot the device thru the recovery screen on the the player. Problem solved .
