Runtime for heuristics and Deployment

Hello All,
When I execute the Heuristics or Deployment (SCM 7.0) even for a single product it takes around 15 minutes.
So let me know how to improve the run time.
Or do we need to install any support packages?
Thanks,
Siva.

Hi Siva,
Check the following
1) Any master data error in the location product planned (MRP views, resource used, PPM, lane, material master etc.,)
2) Check the job log in sm37, if no log created, delete the job and rerun again
3) Check inbound and outbound queues
4) Check the application log if any errors displayed
5) Run CCR for the location product for all transactional data and then run heuristic
Confirm your observations.
Regards
R. Senthil Mareeswaran.

  • What are best practice for packaging and deploying j2EE apps to iAS?

We've been running a set of J2EE applications on a pair of iAS SP1b for about a year and it has been quite stable.
Recently however we have had a number of LDAP issues, particularly when registering and unregistering applications (registering ear files sometimes fails 1st time but may work 2nd time). Also We've noticed very occasionally that old versions of classes sometimes find their way onto our machines.
What is considered to be best practice in terms of packaging and deployment, specifically:
    1) Packaging - using the deployTool that comes with iAS6 SP1b to package is a big manual task, especially when you have 200+ jsp files. Are people out there using this or are they scripting it with a build tool such as Ant?
    2) Deploying an existing application to multiple iAS's. Are you guys unregistering old application then reregistering new application? Are you shutting down iAS whilst doing the deployment?
    3) Deploying ear files can take 5 to 10 mins, is this normal?
    4) In a clustered scenario where HTTPSession is shared what are the consequences of doing deployments to data stored in session?
thanks in asvance for your replies

You may want to consider upgrading your application server environment to a newer service pack. There are numerous enhancements involving the deployment tool and run time layout of your application that make clear where you're application is loading its files from.
If you've at a long running application server environment, with lots of deployments under your belt, you might start to notice slow downs in deployment and kjs start time. Generally this is due to garbage collecting in your iAS registry.
You can do several things to resolve this. The most complete solution is to reinstall the application server. This will guarantee a clean ldap registry. Of course you've got to restablish your configurations and redeploy your applications. When done, backup your application server install space with the application server and directory server off. You can use this backup to return to a known configuation at some future time.
For the second method: <B>BE CAREFUL - BACKUP FIRST</B>
There is a more exhaustive solution that involves examining your deployed components to determine the active GUIDS. You then search the NameTrans section of the registry searching for Applogic Servlet *, and Bean * entries that represent your previously deployed components but are represented in the set of deployed GUIDs. Record these older GUIDs, remove them from ClassImp and ClassDef. Finally remove the older entries from NameTrans.
Best practices for deployment depend on your particular environmental needs. Many people utilize ANT as a build tool. In later versions of the application server, complete ANT scripts are included that address compiling, assembly and deployment. Ant 1.4 includes iAS specific targets and general J2EE targets. There are iAS specific targets that can be utilized with the 1.3 version. Specialized build targets are not required however to deploy to iAS.
Newer versions of the deployment tool allow you to specify that JSPs are not to be registered automatically. This can be significant if deployment times lag. Registered JSP's however benefit more fully from the services that iAS offers.
    2) In general it is better to undeploy then redeploy. However, if you know that you're not changing GUIDs, recreating an existing application with new GUIDs, or removing registered components, you may avoid the undeploy phase.
If you shut down the KJS processes during deployment you can eliminate some addition workload on the LDAP server which really gets pounded during deployment. This is because the KJS processes detect changes and do registry loads to repopulate their caches. This can happen many times during a deployment and does not provide any benefit.
    3) Deploying can be a lengthy process. There have been improvements in that performance from service pack to service pack but unfortunately you wont see dramatic drops in deployment times.
One thing you can do to reduce deployment times is to understand the type of deployment. If you have not manipulated your deployment descriptors in any way, then there is no need to deploy. Simply drop your newer bits in to the run time space of the application server. In later service packs this means exploding the package (ear, war, or jar) in to the appropriate subdirectory of the APPS directory.
    4) If you've changed the classes of objects that have been placed in HTTPSession, you may find that you can no longer utilize those objects. For that reason, it is suggested that objects placed in session be kept as simple as possible in order to minimize this effect. In general however, is not a good idea to change a web application during the life span of a session.

  • Best Practices for Packaging and Deploying Server-Specific Configurations

We have some server-specific properties that vary for each server. We'd
like to have these properties collected together in their own properties
file (either .properties or .xml is fine).
What is the best-practices way to package and deploy an application (as an
ear file), where each server needs some specific properties?
We'd kind of like to have the server-specific properties file be stored
external to the ear on the server itself, so that the production folks can
configure each server's properties at the server. But it appears that an
application can't access a file external to the ear, or at least we can't
figure out the magic to do it. If there is a way to do this, please let me
    know how.
Or do we have to build a unique ear for each server? This is possible, of
course, but we'd prefer to build one deployment package (ear), and then
ship that off to each server that is already configured for its specific
environment. We have some audit requirements where we need to ensure that
an ear that has been tested by QA is the very same ear that has been
deployed, but if we have to build one for each server, this is not
    possible.
Any help or pointers would be most appreciated. If this is an old issue,
my apologies, would you please point me to any previous material to read?
I didn't see anything after searching through this group's archives.

The one draw back to this is you have to go all the way back to ant and the
build system to make changes. You really want these env variables to be
    late binding.

    Paul,
I have a similar situation in our project and I don't create ear filesspecific
to the environment. I do the following:
    1) Create .properties file for every environment with the same attributename
but different values in it. For example, I have phoneix.properties.NT,phoenix.properties.DEV,
    phoenix.properties.QA, phoenix.properties.PROD.
    2) Use Ant to compile, package and deploy the ear file
I have a .bat file in NT and .sh for Solaris that in turn calls theant.bat or
ant.sh respectively. For the wrapper batch file or shell script, you canpass
the name of the environment. The wrapper batch file will copy theappropriate
properties file to "phonenix.properties". In the ant build.xml, I alwaysrefer
to phonenix.properties which is available all the time depending on theenvironment.

It works great and I can't think of any other flexible way. Hope thathelps.

    Hi,
    Agree with Tek-Nerd.
What's more, as the Lync FE patch of Site is 8308.857, so before you move CMS and PChat Server, please update it to the latest version of CU firstly.
Also, as you enable mirroring database, it is recommended to use the Invoke-CsDatabaseFailover -NewPrincipal Primary command, and then verify
that the primary server is principal for all databases before you run the Install-CsDatabase cmdlet.

  • Target Days Supply in SNP Heuristics and Deployment

    Dear Experts,
Does the Target Days supply only define the minimum and not the maximum stock levels?
    Example: consider a Period P1
The target dayu2019s supply is 20 days, and the Days Supply in Period P1 is more than 20 (suppose 35)
The Total Demand in that week is not big enough to bring the Days supply < 20
    Question:
Does the system still create a Distribution Reciept (Planned) in this case and keeps increasing the day's supply of dest location? Or does it create stock transfers only if Days Supply is threatening to fall below the Target Days Supply?
    In other words:
Does Target Days Supply only come into picture when Days Supply < Target Days Supply, in which case the system adds the difference (Target Stock Level u2013 Current Stock Level) to total demand while creating stock transfers.
When Days Supply is >> Target Days Supply, does the SNP Heuristic still create a Stock Transfer even though there is enough stock to cater to the current total demand and not fall below Target Stock?
Hope you can help in understanding this concept.
    Regards,
    Rimjhim

    Thanks for your reply.
Please correct if I have misunderstood:
While calculating the net requirement during SNP Heuristic run, the system will apply Target Stock Level into consideration and will only create a Pur Req if the stock is falling below the Target stock.
    Thanks,

  • Web Coding considerations for CRM and R/3

As of ISA 3.1 the correct process for Development and Deployment you must use these tools in order to stay within SAP Modification Concept.
    1. Software Deliver Manager(SDM) - In the 6.20 environment it is a loose deployer meaning it will not track what web-apps exist on the j2ee server. On the later versions of the 6.20 j2ee if you do not use the SDM then the libray.txt and refernce.txt will be rebuilt and the reference to the web-apps required libraries will be removed.
    2. NetWeaver Developer Studio - This tool was built primarily as an SAP Portals development tool since it can connect to the j2ee 6.40 and do builds and deployments into portals. For CRM ISA, ICSS and Biller Direct as well as R/3 ISA and others you should still use NetWeaver since it has lots of functionality that can be leveraged even at this early stage.
    3. ISA Build Tool - You must use this to rename and build deltas of your web-apps for deploying throughout the landscape.
    4. Ant 1.5 - This is the most tested version of the ANT for the ISA Build tool. I highly recommend using this version only.
Developing for CRM in the new 6.40 world can be confusing and the thought that with this new j2ee server there is a ton of added functionality for ISA is not true. The j2ee server can be integrated with SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio but that gives very little support to CRM/R/3 ISA ICSS or BillerDirect.
    Good luck in your work.
    Stephen

    Sunil,
I believe we are working together in the other forum.  I will be posting as much as I can there.  As for upgrading.  6.40 is the way to go right now.  SAP Is transitioning everything in that direction. The two most popular for current customers are 6.20 and 6.40 6.30 is more a development system.  Try to use whatever your customer has.  Believe me when I say the more you install the environments on your machine the more you learn.  We, J2EE Developers, are unique in that we should know everything about our landscape not just our code.

  • Aproove and deploy to production error

    Hi,
when i tried to move for Aproove and deploy to production the following error occured.
Failed to approve the project 'project name' for deployment. Unable to obtain exclusive deployment locks to one or more assets. Assets that are locked by other projects must be unlocked before attempting to deploy this project.
    Jk

It means the assets you are trying to deploy are also in another project whose "Verify Production Deployment" is not completed or other projects have checked out before you started this project.
So either finish the final step of those projects or delete assets of that project or deploy that project.

  • Can I use forms and reports 6I runtime for production environment?

    I have a doubt.
I know if i use or install developer (forms and reports 6I) both, runtime and builder, I do require a license.
But If I buy the standard edition license for database (in production or deployment), and I wanna use the runtimes (from forms and reports) only as runtime not to modify or develop anything, is it possible? just to download it or install it in RUNTIME mode?
    Is it possible and legal?
    Thanks

Can I download that developer and install both forms and report runtime (yes only runtime) to access a licensed standard edition database? The problem is, you can't download that version any more! All download links to Forms version earlier that 10g R2 have been removed from Oracle's web site. You might still be able to download Forms 6i from My Oracle Support, but this requires a paid license agreement with Oracle to access My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink).
So, if you already have a copy of Oracle Developer Forms and Reports 6i then all you need to do is contact your local Oracle Sales Representative to get an official answer to your licensing question. If you don't have a copy of Forms 6i, then you are pretty much out of luck unless you know someone who has a copy!

  • Best practice for .war?  Configure and deploy or deploy and configure?

In Apache Tomcat for example, I can deploy an app, stop the server, reconfigure the app in situ, then start the server again...
Is this recommended for deploying Java web apps to Oracle App Server 10g?
We currently have a consulting firm that is recommending to configure the web app before deploying. Sounds reasonable, except that they want this done via JDeveloper so that the Sys Admin can right click on the "deploy to OAS" button (ie: have the tools generate the .war file after configuration and deploy automagically).

    Thanks for your feedback.
Are you aware of any way to use the *.deploy configuration file that is created by JDeveloper in an ANT script to create the .war or .ear file?
If not, I can picture the Sys Admin and developers groaning when they're told that they're JDeveloper web-app configuration cannot be used for production -- and that they must somehow duplicate that functionality in an ANT script!
I do have the below ANT scripts from Debu to do the deployment etc. But they only help after the .ear is built.
    EAR file deployment:

    <arg value="-deploymentName"/>
    <arg value="${this.application.name}"/>

  • How to config the user and role in the runtime for executing in the GP?....

    Hi Experts,
    I am learning GP(Guided processor)according the document
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/44/0d5b8f250d5cfae10000000a155369/frameset.htmneed.
I meet two question when I learn the GP.
    The first:
This document don't tell me how to config the member framework of the company.  After I design the GP, I have to config the user and role in the runtime for executing. I hope I can use the WDA(webdynpro for java or webdynpro for java) to implement to config the user for executing in the runtime. Thus, the customer don't config the user when runing the GP. But I don't know how to do this.
I need a document guide step by step to tell me how to do this.
    The second:
If I use the workflow in the GP, I have to install and config the NWDI(Netweaver Development Infrastructure). Now I have installed the NWDI, but I don't know config it so that I can download it to my machine for develop the workfolw in the GP.
Do you give me some hints? Thanks a lot.
    Thank a lot.
    Best regards,

    Hi, Mithu,
Thanks a lot for your help in advance.
I have carefully read the document: https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/6b66d7ea-0c01-0010-14af-b3ee523210b5.
Now, I think I have to set the processor of every actions in every process if I use the GP for processing the workflow.
I am better to hope that I can set the processor to the role for every actions in every process in the runtime through get the organizational structure in the WDA(webdynpro for java or webdynpro for java). Thus, the customer don't set the processor to the role for every action in every process when runing in the GP.   I don't know how to do this.
