S/W & H/W requirement for Oracle9i RAC on Win 2003

Dear Sir,
I have Windows 2003 & Oracle 9i Ent S/W in place. I want to implement a 2 NODE RAC for loadbalance & also want to have Dataguard with it for DR. Please let me know what all S/W & what type of H/W are required for implementing this setup. Please let me know where i can reduce the cost since the budget is restricted.
Thanks & Regards.

Hi Aryanadonis  ,
Thanks for posting here
According what you mentioned, I thought system can’t located command programs path when you perform this command .
Seems that you can perform these command with assign path, what I thought is this issue occurred because wrong environment variable setting.
I noticed that you have posted the Environment Variable result here, I checked and highlight wrong values that could cause this issue. please correct it and try perform
command again.

  • Hardware requirement for a RAC

    Hi,
I want to create a 11.2 RAC with only one node.
I will add a new node in the future.
I've available a netapp for the shared storage (ASM).
So I need to buy only the server.
The requirement is that the server has 4 network devices (2 for public and 2 for interconnect in bond) 10Gbit
1 fiber channel to connect the storage and what else?
Need I buy the switch if I config only one node?
what's missing? exclude ram and cpu...
    Thanks

Yes, to implement RAC hardware is required.
    >what's missing?
A power cord is required for each device.

  • Veritas required for Oracle RAC on Sun Cluster v3?

    Hi,
We are planning a 2 node Oracle 9i RAC cluster on Sun Cluster 3.
Can you please explain these 2 questions?
    1)
If we have a hardware disk array RAID controller with LUNs etc, then why do we need to have Veritas Volume Manager (VxVM) if all the LUNS are configured at a hardware level?
    2)
Do we need to have VxFS? All our Oracle database files will be on raw partitions.
    Thanks,

    > We are planning a 2 node Oracle 9i RAC cluster on Sun
Cluster 3.Good. This is a popular configuration.
Can you please explain these 2 questions?
    1)
If we have a hardware disk array RAID controller with
LUNs etc, then why do we need to have Veritas Volume
Manager (VxVM) if all the LUNS are configured at a
hardware level?VxVM is not required to run RAC. VxVM has an option (separately
licensable) which is specifically designed for OPS/RAC. But if
you have a highly reliable, multi-pathed, hardware RAID platform,
you are not required to have VxVM.
    2)
Do we need to have VxFS? All our Oracle database
files will be on raw partitions.No.
IMHO, simplify is a good philosophy. Adding more software
and layers into a highly available design will tend to reduce
the availability. So, if you are going for maximum availabiliity,
you will want to avoid over-complicating the design. KISS.
In the case of RAC, or Oracle in general, many people do use
raw and Oracle has the ability to manage data in raw devices
pretty well. Oracle 10g further improves along these lines.
A tenet in the design of highly available systems is to keep
the data management as close to the application as possible.
Oracle, and especially 10g, are following this tenet. The only
danger here is that they could try to get too clever, and end up
following policies which are suboptimal as the underlying
technologies change. But even in this case, the policy is
coming from the application rather than the supporting platform.

  • SYSTEM HARDWARE REQUIREMENT FOR ORACLE RAC +ORACLE GRID INFRASTRUCTURE

    Hi Guru's,
Can anyone of you explain me what exactly the system H/W requirement for Installing Oracle 11gR2 Grid Infrastructure along with Oracle RAC.
    I already have 8GB RAM,i3 Processor.

If you like to install RAC on vmware, this 8gb memory enough. you can allocate 2gb for one node and also other. So total 4GB enough for RAC installation.

  • NIC ROUTER requirement for 10g RAC database

I need to know what hardware to order in setting up an 10g RAC database without a single-point-of-failure. My question centers on the networks. If each server has one NIC for the public interface and one NIC for the private interconnect, aren't the routers these NICs are attached to a single point of failure? If each server has two NICs bonded together for the public interface and two NICs bonded together for the private interconnect, does each NIC attach to a different router?

    sayantan chakraborty wrote:
is RDMA and infiband ar same??Infiniband is a switched fabric layer for high speed communication. RDMA is a protocol for "+remote direct memory access+".
Infiniband supports the Internet Protocol suite over Infiniband, or IPoIB. It also supports RDMA over Infiniband.
so do we need only infiband SDR / QDR switch to set infiband OR what else??You need an Infiniband switch - Cisco and Voltaire are two companies that supply this type of hardware. The latter is used by Oracle in its Exadata database machines. Unsure about Cisco's commitment to Infiniband switches as they have discontinued their Infiniband switches with integrated fibre channel gateways. A sore point with us after we bought into this technology about 2 years ago, in part on their very own recommendations - and now own very expensive, somewhat buggy and totally unsupported hardware. Seems like the new Cisco California servers are GigE and not Infiniband, which perhaps explain this (flawed) decision of theirs...
For each cluster node, you need an Infiniband PCI card (typically has 2 ports). If you are going to use bonding, you will need a pair of Infiniband cables per server. Also remember to get spares - both PCI cards and cables.
If you want redundancy at the switch, you need to get yourself 2 Infiniband switches.
But if you're planning to invest this into a RAC cluster, then surely you should also invest money in RAC licensing and support - and with that gain access to very useful documentation like the RAC Starter Kit and so on.

  • Client requirment for 10g RAC

    Hi,
We are planning to deploy Oracle 10g RAC on itanium Cluster. What is the Client and its version requirement to take full advantage of 10g RAC load balancing/fail over ?
    Shanmu
    India.

If you want a realistic setup, then you need 3 physical PC's. VM ware installation is too easy, and you dont run into many of the issues you are likely to run into with physical computers. I recommend 3 old PC's with a KVM switch, with Openfiler as the previous post suggested. Put Linux on the cluster nodes, it is free and you dont need much horsepower to run it.

  • Network requirements for deploying RAC in VM manager V3 with a RAC template

Now I have two VM servers and installe VM manager on another server.
Each server has only one NIC with one port.
I have deployed single virtual machines successfully on the two VM servers.
Can I deploy RAC with a RAC template with the two VM servers.
How do I need to do with the network?

Yes. Create a new virtual MAC/NIC.
    Should you do this?????
    NO.
RAC requires a dedicated NIC. Testing... you will be okay but don't expect good performance. You can not do this in production.

  • Help required for disabling RAC ethernet

    Hi Guys!
We want to test Oracle RAC having 2 nodes on Windows platform.
We are testing the worst scanerio by disabling the ethernet cards on one of the node of RAC
Just want to know if we should disable "Public" ethernet or "Private" ethernet on node 2 of the RAC please?
Or disabling both ethernets on node 2 are required
    Thanks

    Just a sidenote:
11.2.0.2 introduced a concept of "Rebootless node fencing".
This especially handles the loss of interconnect in 11.2.0.2:
In most cases only the processes will be killed, and then the clusterstack will get restarted in the event of loss of the interconnect.
Only if the killing of I/O processes is not successfull (or takes to long) then the cluster restart will get escalated to a node reboot.
Just checked... wonder why this is not in the new feature section....

  • Hard disk / RAM requirement for Oracle RAC

I'm using the following configuration for RAC
    Oracle 10gR2
    VMware Server
    Host Server - Linux CentOS
Two Guest Servers - Linux CentOS
Now I'm trying with Pentium 4 and 1 GB RAM. But it is very slow and even hard to finish full RAC step.
What is the best hard disk / RAM configuration to support above specs?
    Kindly advise me.
    Thanks
    Karti

i am using 3 gb RAM, 160 GB hard disk, intel Due core processor. Its working fine for 10gR2 same as you mentioned os & oracle version.
i dont know the minimum RAM Size, but i have seen tarry singh's RAC installation DEMO in dbasupport site with 2 GB RAM size.
so you need atleast 2 GB RAM. Minimum 1 GB for each guest OS.
i am new to RAC. wait for expert's reply.

  • What is the minimum required for 10g RAC AIX 5.2L on a SAN

    We have the following
    2 IBM p550's with AIX 5.2L
    Oracle 10g
    Hitachi SAN
    The questions I have are
    1. Does one need any addtional software such as HACMP ?
    2. Can one use just RAW 'disks' and not use ASM ?
    3. Can one using just the raw 'disks' presented by the SAN with ASM ?
    Anything else ?
    Thank you,
    -pete

Oracle says that from 10g onwards, not need to have any other cluster software since it is providing CRS (cluster ready services) with 10g. However, having HACMP installed would be a good idea. I heard many problem, earliy release of 10g, aboug just using CRS instead of other clustered services.
Well, we are using SHARQ d240 storage, but, didn't required any raw partition, and also not using ASM. Basically, we are in a testing mode.

Does the standard Linux 8 version can be used for RAC R2 or we need only Linux AS for the RAC configuration.
What is the linux requirement for the RAC R2 configuration ?

    Thanks for the info.,
could you tell me what firewire components you are using? I know that we need the fireware cards in the pcs/servers, the firewire hub, and the firewire drive. However, I am having difficulty identifying which firewire components to buy, ie., which ones are compatible with Linux Red Hat (AS). The Red Hat HCL revealed nothing to me. Any info you could give me on the components you are using would be greatly appreciated and save me a lot of time.
    Thanks again,

  • Hardware required for RAC setup at home

    Hi All,
Could you please suggest the Hardware required for practicing RAC at home.
    Regards,
    VN

    Hi, "user7202581",
For practicing purposes, you could consider a VBox / OVM based setup at home. We have used those for Hands On Labs in the course of Oracle Open World more than once. I recommend you use a machine with at least 8GB memory and dual core (HT enabled) processors. Some configuration examples: Lenovo Laptop, ThinkPad, 8GB, 320GB HDD, i5 dual core, 2.5 GHz, Win 7 or a Mac Mini, latest version, i5 dual core, 2.3GHz and 8GB memory would do the trick for a two node cluster. Note that I mention the hosting OS in case you use VBox. For OVM based setups you either have to use a dual boot system or use a dedicated machine. You will be somewhat restricted with respect to the hardware failures you can impose on this system obviously (due to the VM setup), but for practicing purposes, you should find those environments sufficient, I think. Also see: RAC on OVM templates: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/rac-template-11grel2-166623.html
    Hope that helps. Thanks,

  • Oracle9i RAC & RAC 10g Queries

    All,
I was wondering whether you could please help out on the following:
A governmental organization at Cyprus is currently running Oracle9i RAC on Windows 2003 (Oracle instances were installed on server1's & server2's C: drives and they are sharing an OCFS-formatted database
---created on (and, seen as) E: drive for both servers/instances---).
Now, the customer has requested that we have to upgrade Oracle9i RAC to 10g RAC.
What might be a recommended migration path, if they desire to use the same servers and storage for 10g RAC, too? I guess I have to have 9i RAC and 10g RAC co-located on the same servers (at least, for some period of time), right? What happens, though, to the shared db? Do I have to create a different partition and map it as a different drive (formatted as OCFS, again???) for 10g RAC? Or, the OCFS-formatted E: (now used for RAC 9i) can also be used for 10g RAC?
Any support will be greatly appreciated.
Thanking you and looking forward to hearing from you soon.
    -Pericles Antoniades.

I am assuming this is a Windows environment.
I would start with the O/S make sure all O/S level patches required for 10gR2 are applied.
At a minimum I would suggest going to 10.2.0.3 for Windows.
The traditional method of upgrade RAC from Oracle 9i to 10g is to install the clusterware, install the binaries for 10gR2 and then do a database upgrade.
You are correct, for a period of time you will have both 9i and 10g homes existing on the server.
I have a paper on how to upgrade from 9iRAC to 10gRAC on OTN.. its not for windows but the process should be the similar.
