The most likely explanation is that the ASC servers are out of sync. You're getting one that doesn't have the OP, and I'm getting one that does.
More to the point, if you must analyze a hang log of 10,000+ lines, you have to run it through a text filter that drops everything except pathnames, and also drops most of those, such as /usr/libexec/*, /Applications/*, and /System/Library/*, and finally drops duplicates. What's left over will be the pathnames of third-party add-ons, which as you know cause most of the problems reported here. In this case, I ended up with about six lines from the original 17,000.

  • Help !! Safari always crashes ! It sometimes work then doesn't load the pages thought time warner cable tells me my internet is working. What can i do ?

all is in the title , my airport is conected , internet is connected , but safari always crashes !!!! Its gonna work for 5 minutes then crash for 10 minutes , then work again ! then stop again i really want to fix this problem soon please help me !

There are a number troubleshooting steps you can take. I'd start by restarting in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one has become corrupt. If that doesn't work try downloading some other browers such as Firefox or Google Chrome. If those work then it points the finger at Safari. You can re-download and install Safari too. Next in Safari  you can do some maintenance, by resetting Safari and clearning it's cahces.
Try those and if you still don' t have any luck post back and we can try some other ideas.

  • Starting instance in idle mode (10gR2 on Windows Vista)

    Hi!
I was wondering how I can initially start an Oracle instance in idle mode. Currently, I can only open the database, then connect as sys with sqlplus and shutdown the database.
    Here's what I do:
1.) Start the TNS Windows service.
2.) Start the "OracleService<SID>" Windows service. Otherwise I can't even connect with sqlplus, but starting this service buts the database in open mode already.
3.) Connect with sqlplus and execute shutdown.
Is there a way to start the "OracleService<SID>" Windows service but keeping the instance in idle mode directly?
    Thanks for your help,

    Hi Marcus
Please be informed of that (source is from the great Burleson site, thanks guys!)
    check the Win service:
Open the registry with regedit. Always back up the registry before making changes. Navigate to the key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\oracle_home_name.
There will be a key called:
ORA_SID_AUTOSTART. SID is your database SID.
This key should be set to TRUE. If not the server starts but does not start the database. There is also an ORA_SID_SHUTDOWN which you want to be TRUE so that if the server is shut down the service will shutdown the database.
If you want to manually start the database set ORA_SID_AUTOSTART to FALSE. The service will start but not the database.
You can manage the windows service with oradim
Please read that for much more information :

  • New MBPr when viewing safari in full screen mode it keeps switching to the desk top screen like I initiated a gesture

Everytime I am using safari in full screen mode my MBPr always switches back to desk top view within a matter of seconds.  I can be typing a website or entering data in to a form and it still switches back.  This has become very annoying.  I have reinstalled the software, restored from time machinw, and even reset safri but it will not stop

Delete the localstore.rdf file at the following location:
    C:\Users\'''USERNAME'''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\'''PROFILE NAME'''
I did this and it fixed it for several days, but it broke again eventually.

  • Irregular and annoying HD click noise (mostly in idle mode)

    Hi there,
do you know the "click" noise your MacBook HD makes when you shut down your laptop? Yes?
Well, it seems my MacBook HD makes just that noise at irregular intervals, especially in idle mode (i. e. when no programs are running and nothing much is happening on my Mac ...). It's quite an annoying tick and especially at (quiet) night time can drive me up the wall.
From Activity Monitor, I can't see any disk access happening which coincides with the "click". Sometimes, shutting down the MacBook, waiting a couple of minutes and then restarting it makes the "click" disappear for a while, but it always comes back eventually.
I really would like to know what is happening here ...
Yes, I know that there are a few other threads here about just that topic, however, I don't think anyone has yet identified the true source of the "click":
It's definitely not a hardware problem since I have observed the "click" on now three different MacBooks, all using different drive models and makes (Seagute, Fujitsu etc.).
Any insight into this issue would be highly appreciated.
    Kind reagrds from Berlin,
    jan

    Hallo everybody!
after having managed to solve the problem on my own the whole night and after a morning visit to the nearest Apple Service point, I got a solution, which I hope is not a mere "workaround".
Just to summarize: at the Apple point they told me immediately that such a noise would be absolutely normal; in particular, they told me about the "journling" of the HD the System is used to perform periodically in background (that sounds me strange, as I noticed no real activity when the noise was present). They suggested me verify the hd, initialize it and reinstall the system.
I did so and magically the disturbing noise was gone: as I anticipated above, I hope this struck at the root of the problem but I'll wait and see what is going to happen when my HD will be almost full again...
In conclusion, I thing the reason of the problem could really be some bad piece of software continuously causing "fake" HD accesses... it should be nice to know which piece of software it is.
    Bye

  • IPhone 5 Safari Faking "Private Browsing" Mode

I recently posted in another forum about how suspicious click-through ads were appearing on my iPhone 5 within certain media web sites. Since I have never run Safari without “private browsing” mode being on; have always had “limit ad tracking” turned on; third-party cookies blocked;  and have geolocation and location services (for Safari) turned off, that should have been impossible. While the discussion participants had come up with some interesting possibilities, I realized that I had neglected to check the “Website Data” screen in iPhone’s Setup. So I just checked the web site storage. Got an unpleasant surprise when I was greeted with a screen-full of URL’s beginning with www.stayinvisible.com and carbonite.com. Tapped on “show all sites” and 100 or more URL’s scrolled by, among them many Apple web sites. Even found a competitor’s web site URL that should not have been there, since I’ve never visited their web site, nor any legitimate web site that would have hosted anything that would have set a cookie on this device.
Apple’s privacy policy with the current version of Safari for iPhone 5 (within IOS 7.1.2 11D257) is very clear:
    "Private Browsing
When Private Browsing is enabled, Safari doesn’t remember the pages you visit, AutoFill information, and your open tabs aren’t stored in iCloud. Safari will also ask sites and their third party content providers (including advertisers) not to track you. Websites can’t modify information stored on your device, so services normally available at such sites may work differently until you turn off Private Browsing."
Apple stated that, “Websites can’t modify information stored on your device,…” yet I have in front of me proof that web sites CAN and DO modify information on my device while Safari’s “private browsing is on. This is very deceptive and a nasty way to treat customers who bought one of the most expensive PDA/smart phones on the market and now find that they have no web browsing security (Safari ignoring secure web site security certificate revocations, can’t detect bogus or malicious secure web sites), and apparently zero web browsing privacy, after Apple promised exactly the opposite.
Has anyone else finding that their web browsing security has been compromised with a recent vintage iPhone?

I’ve wiped the web cache several times since then. Several times I found more cookies in the web cache, at least once found over a hundred items, mostly for web sites I didn’t visit even once, but were all in my Safari bookmarks. Apparently, in addition to everything else going on, Apple appears to be rooting through my bookmarks without my permission.
Using Steve Gibson’s Cookie Forensics web page (https://www.grc.com/cookies/forensics.htm) I confirmed that web sites are able to save and retrieve cookie data from my iPhone with Private Browsing enabled. That violates Apple’s stated privacy policy.
The cookies that keep reappearing in the web cache, which also violates Apple’s stated privacy policy, apparently are leftovers from Safari crashes. I see five crashes in the past month, and crash logs for Safari going back to last year. Per my earlier post, after tapping the "delete" button, the cookies immediately disappeared, but then all came back at least once within a few seconds. That means IOS was hiding, and not deleting, the web cache when the "delete" button was tapped. The reappearing cookies are also only being hidden from the user, and become visible when a device crash prevents IOS from keeping the cookies hidden, since they've been in the web cache all the time.
I also see that other apps, like Podcasts, Stocks, and Weather are also writing or accessing items in the web cache, while “Private Browsing” mode has supposedly been “on.” The only thing “private” about “Private Browsing” mode is Apple deliberately hiding this activity from users.
Safari on IOS will allow web sites to track iPhone users regardless of an iPhone user’s device settings. Anyone who merely minimizes Safari between sessions, rather than killing the active Safari task, will find their device will act exactly the same whether “Private Browsing” is on or off. Safari might not prompt for, for example, a user name for a login, but if the web site stored a cookie with login info, it might already have you logged in (if a login were required for a particular page). And if a cookie were saved to the web cache after a device crash, Safari will again violate Apple's privacy policy and allow web sites to read and modify the cookies that were stored in the cache while "Private Browsing" mode were on. I confirmed that more than once.
Apple’s privacy policy for is a lie. Mobile Safari has no “Private Browsing Mode.”

  • I use a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a printer and my Safari always put 150% size as default. Wy not 100%?

I have a MacBook (the white one) and use a HP Officejet Pro 8500 A909a printer and my Safari always put 150% size as default. Wy not 100%?
When I use Firefox the default size is 100%. When I use Pages, also runs good (100%). Only in Safari, and Mail too, appears 150% as the default size.
How can I change it to 100% in both?
    THOMAS

    Hi,
The problem seems to lie in the installer, which has an unusual bad behaviour.  The installer puts the 8500 a909a in the list of USB  bootable devices.  (Not good!!!)
When the printer is disconnected it isn't a problem.  When the printer is connected the computer tries to boot from the printer and the computer hangs.
When I found the printer in the BIOS list of USB bootable devices I DISABLED that item in that list. Then it booted normally.
But now the BIOS takes an extra 30 seconds or so but boot up seems to be preceeding normally.
The guys on the CHAT and PHONE lines didn't even imagine the installer might be a problem so their advice was useless. They were blaming the computer.  More importanly, they didn't have a way to escalate the problem. They  had no capacity to respond in a flexible manner. It was like dealing with unhelpful staff in the county clerk's office.

  • HT4628 My iMac loses its connection with my home wi-fi network when it goes into "idle" mode.  That is, if I don't use the Mac for a few minutes, it goes to idle, kind of like sleep. The wi-fi connection disappears and the clock upper right stops working.

I think it's a Lion problem.  I had this problem with an old Dell True Mobile wireless router, and hoped it would go away with a new Airport Express router.  Same problem.  I checked online and saw a lot of message boards featuring questions from people that suffered the interruption of their wi-fi connection, some with Macbooks others with iMacs like me.  The problem happens when I don't use the computer for a few minutes. It goes into the Idle mode, kind of like sleep.  The connection is severed and the time clock upper right stops.  It's weird.  There was supposedly an Apple update that addressed this issue, so at the Genius bar two days ago I updated to 10.7.3, downloaded and installed the update. Didn't work.  Is it Lion? Is it a wireless card issue?  Very frustrating.  I subitted a genius bar work authorization with another Apple Genius Bar support tech the next day. He ran some tests. Cryptically said he knew that Apple knew about this and was working on a solution but couldn't tell me what it was. Submitted my info and said I'd be contacted by an Apple tech within 48 hours and provided with a link to another download of another update that should "fix" the problem.  I don't know what to do.

    I FINALLY SOLVED THIS ISSUE!!!!
New routers have "mixed" modes for your network; this means that it will automatically choose the best option between wireless-B, wireless-G and wireless-N network modes. I used to experience this issue using the 2.4 GHz. mixed mode wireless network.
Thankfully, my router can create 2 networks: a 2.4 GHz. network and a 5 GHz. network.
When I randomly changed this value to "use only wireless-B and wireless-G" trying to fix an issue with a wi-fi expander, the iMac wi-fi  issue dissapeared! I tried it with wireless-N only, but it didn't work.
So, finally, I have a 2.4 GHz network with only wireless-B and wireless-G modes which works PERFECT with the iMac, and a 5 GHz. network with a mixed* wireless mode for everything else mode.
*PD: by "mixed" mode it means that the router will automatically choose between B, G and N network modes as it fits better.

  • Safari always opens on a tab

I didn't use my computer for a few days. Now that I started using it again, I noticed that Safari always opens on a tab. I have Safari set up to open to a blank page and when I open Safari the blank page opens on a tab. I like tab browsing when opening links or browsing multiple pages, but if I'm only looking a one site, I don't want it to open on tab. I have looked in Safari's preferences and there is no way of removing this. Like I said, I don't want to disable tab browsing because it is useful when browsing multiple pages, but I don't want Safari to open on blank screen on a tab. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    P.S. I'm using Safari 3.1.2

So when you start Safari, you get the Tab bar automatically, right? If so, then you invoked that by accident. To get rid of it, press Command-Shift-T.

  • Safari always opens at the last web page viewed. How can I make google the default opening page?

On my iphone 4, safari always opens at the last page viewed. Does anyone know how I can set it to always open at google?

You can't but you can navigate to Google and add that to your homescreen as a shortcut.  Press the arrow on the bottom.

  • Safari always opens a linked file rather than download it.

Safari always opens a linked file rather than download it. Can't always Right Click for menu option as the web page is not setup that way.
Have tried trashing the Downloads.plist from the user library. Still no joy.
    Thanks anyone

    Hi guys
Thanks for suggestions. Carolyn, I did as you suggested but didn't solve problem. KeeChan, as explained in original post, that is my usual fallback but not all web sites work like that. Try downloading Safari - right click (Ctrl Click) on download button and all you get is the "Download.png" image.
I finally found the answer. A long time ago I had downloaded and used "SpeedDownload" and had deleted it. Somehow, some trace of the app was left behind and the mime association with dmg files was messed up.
You can not get rid of Speed Download by throwing its files away or by using an app cleaner product. You MUST run the Speed Download installer program and select the "uninstall" option to remove it.
My browsers now download dmg files correctly.

  • Safari in 64-bit mode on Snow Leopard does not play YouTube videos

Recently Safari stopped playing youtube videos while Safari is in 64-bit mode. The entire page renders correctly; however the area where the video is supposed to play remains a black box without controls. I can watch video from other sites, or I can watch video from youtube if I use another browser like firefox. Additionally, I can go to the youtube video owner's channel and view videos there just fine. It's only when I try to view videos that use the "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=" method of displaying a video using Safari in 64-bit mode that it fails to play -- it plays fine with Safari in 32-bit mode.

I am running Safari 6.0.5 on a Macbook Pro running OSX 10.8.5
The problem that I am having is that every time I use the back button to my previous page it always takes me to the top of my previous page. All of my other Macs running Safari always take me to the point in the page I left from. It is a real headache to always have to search for where I was on my last page. I have gone through every preference I can think of that would be relevant and updated several versions of Safari with no change. This issuse is only on my laptop
Anyone that has had this issue I would appreciate the help.

Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
