Safari slow on menu click

I am, at times, getting very sluggish response time between control>click and the menu appearing to copy/paste or other choice when browsing in Safari. I am on a very slow connection in the Philippines, but is that necessarily the reason? I think not. It only began after Mavericks upgrade. Anyone else seeing this slowdown to about 10 seconds or so?

Your internet connection speed is not related to control clicking > contextual menu.
Try a Safe Mode boot. That will delete some system caches that may help. A Safe Mode boot does not depend on an internet connection.
Startup your Mac in Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot takes much longer than a normal boot so be patient.
Once you are in Safe Mode, click Restart from the Apple () menu.
Then try control click / copy paste.

  • Safari pull down menu click to select fails

Safari on my Mac Pro running 10.8.3 has suddenly stopped allowing me to select items in pull down menus with a single click. It was working earlier today but after my lunch when I woke the Mac Pro from sleep I can select anything in a pull down menu with my trackpad.

Glad I have insisted, you are on the most buggy CP-release ever. Please, install ASAP the bug patch that was released in October 2012! In the list with fixed bugs, were at least 30 bugs that I reported myself.

    Hello Wontsey & Welcome
On 6-4-06 I installed Norton Internet Security 3.0.1 for Mac. I thought maybe my problem was related to the firewall part so I unistalled it and turned the Apple firewall that came with the computer back on.
This did not help. In fact, when I try to open “Help” from the desktop menu the program opens and then immediately closes so I can’t access it.
I hate to have to tell you this Norton is the problem, looking into uninstalling it, the uninstallers that came with it are not effective so no matter you do not have the CD/DVD go to their site to get the Uninstaller
UseCocktail or OnyXto find the invisable files. Just follow Macjacks directive.
This is covered in this Topic thread, abandoning Norton Internet Security see the files Macjack speaks of in the topic thread. If you have questions post in the same forum a new topic this thread is archive, click on the link and then click"back to topic list". This is why i first came to Apple discussions, to get help with the mess Norton can make on Panther and found help as you will. It is not a Safari issue per say, rather a Norton problem.
    Best of luck.

When I'm using Safari, ocasionally the menu bar just disappears. I'm running the latest version of Lion and the latest version of Safari. This is not a full screen app problem. I have multiple windows open. This happens all the time! Firefox is fine! What the ****? Please help!

Right, like I'm trying to say, THERE IS NO SAFARI MENU bar. Example: I have multiple applications open, I click on a Photoshop window, the correct menu or title bar or whatever changes. Every other application window I click on brings up the correct "whatever" bar. If I click on the desktop, the "Finder Bar" shows up.
Everythiing else, BUT SAFARI, works the same way since OS X came out.  This is ridiculous.
I'm getting the vibe that Apple is trying to get rid of the finder.... this is the way wrong direction.

I inserted changes to the the information below in Terminal a month ago on the (very sound) advice of a fellow discussioner (sorry can't find the post know). This was because since upgrading to Tiger my Safari was crashing very often, and this fix prevented it from checking an RSS feed (I think). It stopped it crashing Anyway, but since then when checking my NHS secure e-mail it takes five minutes plus to down load a page, instead of the few seconds. golden grape - Welcome to the discussions!
DNS problems are very irritating - and some of the hardest to figure out.
Let's start gathering some information to see how things are set up. Open the Network Utility and go to the "Lookup" tab. Pick one or two addresses and look them up. How long does the server report it took to do the lookup (query time). How long did you wait from clicking go?
P.S. sometimes the best thing is to ignore these things for an hour or so - it's often a temporary thing while your DNS server works out the addresses you need. Also - mac OS will cache the addresses - so once you have them - you don't need to wait anymore on DNS to find things. Try to leave your mac on as long as possible - unless you have some bad software or corruption on a disk - the longer it runs, the faster things will get.

7ms! Your DNS server is a lot faster than mine.
I can confidently say that you don't have DNS problems. If you had DNS problems - firefox and Network Utility should be equally slow. This really has nothing to do with mini hardware either.
It would be best to ask a new question titled "Safari slow - FireFox fast" in the Safari group. I'm sure a lot of people there will have good ideas to find out what causes safari to go slow when firefox can browse the same site with speed.

One things I can suggest is:
    * Temporarily change your Safari preferences to open the bookmarks or a blank page. You will know if safari is waiting on something locally or the web page is drawing slowly. I doubt this is it - but you never know until you try to narrow down what exactly is slow.

I am using school's network now.
Does the same thing happen if you connect to the internet through 'normal' means, such as a home internet connection (broadband, dialup etc), or does it just happen at school?

  • Safari-slow in loading web pages and getting beach all effect quite often today, have checked Internet connection is ok

Hi, I am having problems with Safari loading web pages as I am getting beach ball effect quite often today.  I have checked that the Internet connection is good, I have also removed webpages in history.  Can anyone give me advice please as I am fairly new to iMacs and not young?

    1. Reset Safari.
Click Safari in the menu bar.
From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
Uncheck the box next to  " Remove saved names and passwords".
      Click  "Reset" button
    2. Empty Caches
        Safari > Preference > Advanced
Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
    3. Turn off Extensions, if any temperorily.
        Safari > Preferences > Extensions
        Try Safari again.

I'm looking at the godaddy hosting plans, and it asks Linux or Windows-based, not giving a choice for Mac OS. I presume that it still works with Mac. Which one should I select? I intend to make pages with iWeb on a mac, and then host them outside of
