Safe to unplug display when computer is running?
Hi,
I have a Cinema Display 27", connected to the mini DVI port of my graphics card. Is it safe to plug and unplug the cable, when the computer is running? I frequently need to connect my MacBook Pro to the same display.
Should be ok. Most displays just think they lost their video signal and will "light up" when they get reconnected.
If you are going to do this frequently however, my concern would be on the wear and tear on the connecters. They may get loose or wear out over time. You should consider using some kind of KVM or at the very least adapters or extension cables since they are far cheaper to replace if they wear out.

Images not displaying when JAR alone running

I apologize for not having an answer to your question, but I'm envious that you've successfully configured mod_jk. I've read several different versions of how to configure this, but nothing has worked so far. I wonder if you could either point me to some correct instructions on how to integrate Apache and Tomcat so I might try to duplicate your success.

Video icon in buddy list does not display when iChat not running?
I have my father-in-law's computer setup to automatically log into iChat when he turns on the computer. However, it does not say he can video chat (the icon does not display) until he actually opens iChat. Is there any way around this? The only thing I thought of was to get iChat to open at login and just not display the buddy list.
Basically, I want him to be available to video chat with his grand daughter...but he doesn't need to see the buddy list or the app for that matter. She would initiate all chats.

It is possible to have iChat as a Login Item.
It is possible for iChat to start Up with the Buddy Lists hidden.
From there Chats can be started from the File menu or Apple key and N together.
To do it this way you have to know the Screen Name of who you are calling.
You should be able to accept incoming A/V chats.

Iam trying to run a "weblogic integration-process application" on server to test the application.
It is giving me the below error:

Panel field display when process is running
I am developing a program that needs to update the panel to give status information about a process that is running. SO far the panel only appears to repaint when the process completes - is there a way to force a repaint without a break in a process?
I have tried setting teh field any issuing a repaint instruction, but this only seems to take effect when the program reaches its end point.

Repainting the panel while the process is going on is tricky. In the single threaded model, which I guess you are using, the panel will get repainted only when the process is complete.
You can use a multithreaded model.
You can assign two threads, one thread for repainting and another for doing the process. But we cannot predict exactly when the thread will be called.
A better idea would be to have a timer variable. A variable which goes on counting and say, every 10000 counts , calls the repaint method. -
Unplugging Display While MacBook Is Running?
Hi,
I just got the 24 inch Cinema Display and am using it with my MacBook using the standard mini display port/usb/power cable. If I want to detach the MacBook to move it around, do I have to switch it off first before unplugging the cable? Or can I just pull the cable out while it is still on?

Java Web Start error message when trying to run vSphere1.2 compliance checker
It installed fine but a javaws usage message displayed when attempting to run. Seems like this might be some kind of Java environment problem on the Windows 7 Pro desktop. Not very familiar with Microsoft, any ideas and/or suggestion?.

One assumption I made is since the install completed without incident the program was able to locate any needed resources.
Another assumption is since I received an error message from javaws then itself was being located - just lacking something else it needed.
Ran javaws from command prompt, received same usage message. Apparently using 64 bit 1.7.0_13, didn't see a Java folder in the 32 bit Program Files so would that be the problen? That 32 bit Java version is needed to run this? Java Web State 10.13.3.20-fcs.
I'm the administrator of the system, so privilege is not an issue
In Properties/Shortcut, verified that the .jar file was pathed correctly

Why does my iMac display keep shutting off? Computer still running in the background. I've tried unplugging and restarting, to no avail. The computer is well out of warranty - about 7-8 years old, running 10.6.8
Checked.... the settings had not been inadvertently changed, but I did move the scroll and reset them back to the original. Hasn't shut off again.... yet. Will re-post with follow-up one way or the other. Thanks.

I'm also having a music issue. When my phone is attached to the computer (mac running 10.6.8) it looks like my music is there but its gray and I can't play anything. I've tried to delete it and it won't let me but it does not show up on my phone.
By the way, I have tried shutting of the display switching in the power settings. That was basically the only real answer I found anywhere. It didn't work.

Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
(Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
netsh winsock reset
Hit "ENTER" key
Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Everytime I tried to click something on my computer screen, this thing would jump over to the reading list. Then, after awhile, my computer was running really slow. So, I decided to shut down my computer. Then, I turned it back on. When I tried to log on, everything was on caps. But, my keyboard was not on caps lock. I thought that it might work, but then I had to put a dot. And instead it gave me a >, as if I was holding down the shift key, and I wasn't. The Etrecheck report clearly shows that SylvieRose has a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Air and that there are only 2 GB RAM installed. The Etrecheck report can be very informative if one takes the time to examine it.

Foxfire automatically loads when I boot up my computer after all the other essential programs boot up. I'd like to know how to disable the start-up menu link that allows the program to load up when the computer first starts up because the Foxfire browser isn't needed when I first start the computer. Besides, when I first start my computer, it's inevitably not hooked to the internet and it's just a bit annoying to see foxfire load when it's not needed. Furthermore, it takes up precious memory in the RAM when it's running, thus slowing down my machine. Please, someone show me how to keep this program from booting when I start up my computer. By the way, my system is Windows Vista and Foxfire does not show up in the start-up folder. Only by going to the default program page and clicking on Foxfire does it show that Foxfire has a hidden default that makes it start when the computer starts. All I'm looking for is to not see it when I boot my computer.
Thanks for pointing me to the link about the startup programs changes. I found the solution there. Foxfire was hiding in the hidden startup menu. Once I found it using msconfig, I was able to stop it from loading when I started my computer. Again, thanks for the help.
