Samba 3.0.14 on Solaris 10 issues

Hello All,
I am facing a wierd problem with the Samba 3.0.14a on Solaris 10 and CUPS (1.1.12) printing.
First of all am not sure if this combination works well. If someone could throw some light, it would be of great help.
Samba is setup with security=server, and it is currently a member of the NT4.0 Domain.
When I use the smbstatus command, I get the following error message, even though the clients are connected.
sessionid.tdb not initialised
/var/log/samba/lock/connections.tdb not initialised
This is normal if an SMB client has never connected to your server.
Failed to open byte range locking database
ERROR: Failed to initialise locking database
Can't initialise locking module - exiting
The permissions on the lock directory seems fine.
Looks like something is broken. The files sessionid.tdb and connections.tdb, don't seem to be exisiting on the server at all.
Has anyone come accross this problem. Any help is most appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Vasanth
Can you share how you resolved the problem.

  • Samba 3.3.3-1 i686 issue

    i just upgraded samba on my 2 boxes and ran into this problem when restarting the service
    [root@$$$ hasan]# /etc/rc.d/samba start
    :: Starting Samba Server                                                 [BUSY]
    /usr/sbin/smbd: error while loading shared libraries: libavahi-client.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory [FAIL]

    Hi all, I run into the same problem. I tried to `pacman -S --asdep avahi`, but that listed almost 30MB in dependencies:
    dbus-core xcb-proto xproto libxdmcp libxau libxcb kbproto libx11 libice libsm dbus libdaemon glib2
    While on my desktop Arch Linux this is ok, on another Arch (mini and GUIless, used with CoLinux) this is a no-no.
    Is this dependency really necessary? Or it just "slipped" out of control? I'm curious, since I see many GUI-related libraries among these new unchecked deps, and I've never configured Samba in any other way than `nano /etc/samba/smb.conf`, so I suspect this avahi has to do with some leaked requisites from a Samba GUI config tool?

    Hi,
    Can I get samba version 4.x in Solaris 10 1/13 SPARC?

    As we don't provide this version, the only ways to obtain it is to compile directly the code source or find a package in Internet that works with Solaris 10.

    Hi 799713,
    The ideal solution would be to apply patches 119757-19 & 146363-01 to update Samba to 3.5.5 as advised by bobthesungeek76036. Unfortunately, this is not an option for us since one require a software contract with Oracle to get patches these days. As a result, below are some of the steps that I have attempted but still needing further advice to complete:
    ( i ) Neither do Windows XP / 2008 clients can connect after excluding port 445 with 139. Keeping port 445 would end up with “transport endpoint” errors but I will try to live with it for now.
    ( ii ) Downloaded Samba 3.4.2 (samba-3.4.2-sol10-sparc-local.gz) from Sunfreeware but having trouble installing it with “pkgadd –d /tmp/samba-3.4.2-sol10-sparc-local with the following output:

    /tmp/samba-3.4.2-sol10-sparc-local[17]: 1:  not found
    ……..( iii ) Is it still necessary to install all these dependencies as stated on Sunfreeware even though samba-3.4.2-sol10-sparc-local.gz is already 257MB:
    popt,
    libiconv,
    libintl,
    readline,
    ncurses,
    kerberos,
    openssl-1.0.0d,
    openldap,
    sasl2,
    zlib,
    and either the libgcc-3.4.6 or the gcc-3.4.6 packages.
    ( iv ) How to turn off existing version 3.0.37 before replacing it with 3.4.2 once it is successfully installed? ? The current version install samba files in /usr/sfw, /etc/sfw and /var/samba. Where will the new installation files go to?
    ( v ) Couldn’t find anything on samba from Blastwave. Do you have an URL that I could try?
    It would be simpler to do a single bundled install as opposed to adding dependency libraries individually where possible.
    Many thanks again,
    Crystal

  • Samba timeout when trying to connect to a computer in a workgroup

    Hello, seems like the best section to post this in...
    Right after I installed my Archlinux setup, I spent a bunch of time trying to get samba running perfectly, mainly, it was just so that other (window$) computers could access mine. Upon getting it working perfectly, both ways, I didn't use it for a while (which is typically the case).
    So today, I need to transfer lots and lots of data, but via Dolphin, browsing the workgroup (which I clicked), lists all the computers that are there, including my own (this).
    That's good so far, but after I browse to one of those computers (even my own!!), shortly thereafter, I receive a timeout error.
    I have tried restarting the samba daemon, netfs, I also tried stopping network manager, and starting the network daemon myself, hoping it was network manager's brokenness that was the problem. Nope.
    Still left in this situation...and nothing that I can remember, has changed since the last time, I didn't screw with config files or anything. Although, I do think I changed routers between this time, I also remember seeing some updates for samba-related packages.
    All out of ideas, I posted here.
    I can post my smb.conf file..or anything else for that matter, if you want. I just want this problem to be solved, and currently am forced to boot into window$ to transfer lots of data. Naturally, I can't do anything during this time, when not in linux....and it kills me a little bit more each time I have to see it
    EDIT: Also note that, I tried using the default config, but I still get timeouts(and restarting samba daemon of course). With 'smbtree', it lists all of the shares available on the workgroup also. I also use the gamin program, as opposed to FAM. Originally, I followed the wiki, and that was how I get it working in the first place, but no longer does it work correctly. The logs in /var/log/samba/ do not show anything interesting, and in fact, only show about 1-2 lines, just saying that it started..
    I also had it say about a firewall possibly being in use, but on a reload/retry, it returns to a timeout error. I do not have any firewalls that I am aware of, on.
    Update: Well I figured out if I run the following command: smbclient '\\NAS\Data' that I will then be taken to a prompt where I can do ls, cd, etc, and browse that share perfectly. What's going on here? Dolphin still times out on it and I would prefer to use a GUI for this..

    Well I decided to try to use 'smb4k', which I just recently found, it also sees all of the computers on my network, but it also sees their shares after I browse into it. Unfortunately, it fails to mount any of them...
    "mount error: could not resolve address for NAS: Name or service not known
    No ip address specified and hostname not found"
    That is the message I receive after clicking (mounting) on one of the shares of the 'NAS' computer, the one on my network.
    Perhaps this error will make things a bit more clear?
    I've been even looking at the docs at samba.org, trying to debug this issue...
    UPDATE: Seem to have limited the problem down, at least now I can mount a share on a computer but *only* if I specify the IP address manually.
    So it appears that it cannot resolve the name of said computer/share, to an IP... what could be causing this, and how can I fix it?

  • Samba configuration on solarisintel 8

    hai i heve downloaded and installed samba server on my intel solaris 8 .. can any one help me to configure the server so that i can login from a widows desktop.
    help.. appriciated.
    konkani

    Modify the configuration file that resided in /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf
    For example:
    [global]
         workgroup =WORKGROUP
         netbios name = yourhostname
         default = global
         security = share
         encrypt passwords = yes
         server string = Samba V2.2.2
    [Shared_Folder]
         read list = guest,@guest
         writable = yes
         valid users = root,@root
         hide dot files = no
         path = /usr/local/src
         public = yes
    Of course, if you are want to join in Windows Domain, addional configure is necessary.

  • Using Solaris 10 on VMWARE WORKSTATION 5.5BETA

    HI .
    Can anyone help me?
    I have got the Solaris CD's and need to install all of them in VMWARE but after the booting of Solaris 10(Experimental) it give s an error of the CD ROM.
    I wanna install Solaris on my laptop SONY VGN-A195HP with WINDOWS XP PRO.
    Best Regards.

    Sounds more like a VMWare than a Solaris issue, I suggest contacting VMWare support. At best you could try using the ISO images directly.

  • Solaris 11 responds to IPSEC VPN traffic ONLY one direction

    I have established a IPSEC VPN tunnel between my remote solaris 11 and office Sonicwall router using Site to Site. Everything works fine if the traffic initiates from the Solaris side. However when I try to ping or any network services like nfs,ssh, samb, etc. on the remote solaris box from our office. The server does NOT respond to the incoming packets but packets are going through the tunnel and appears on the remote end when I do snoop –d tun0 and snoop –I vnic0. What I do notice is that snoop –d vnic0 shows no packets and it doesn’t seem to get any traffic at all (see netstat –rn). Could it be my routing table? Ip zones? Any ideas? I followed the Oracle Documents very carefully and with extra help from other extern Solaris 11 admin sites. I know people would suggest using OpenSwan or OpenVPN but this setup should work.
    Here is the network info on my IPSEC VPN setup. Tunnel is configured in Transport Mode and IPSEC/IKE is working fine.

  • Solaris 10 NFS client with FreeBSD server

    Hello,
    I have an issue about Solaris 10 and a FreeBSD server (currently running 5.4-STABLE). This server exports several NFS shares (3TB each) to various machines including Linux (which works fine) and Solaris (which worked fine on 9 but not 10).
    The last progress was that if you link .sunw in the /home/$USER
    directory to /tmp on Solaris 10, you can then use applications and ssh out from the server. It looks to me like a pure Solaris issue but i still have failed to find a way to fix it.
    The mount options i currently have on solaris are :
    rw,bg,nosuid,nfsver=3,tcp,intr,-w=32768,-r=32768
    Also modified /etc/default/nfs to force NFS3 thinking it might have been the issue : NFS_CLIENT_VERSMAX=3
    I have searched forums and search engines hoping to find an answer but have failed to see anything yet. As far as i can tell, it is a Solaris 10 issue but have no idea how to fix it.
    Thanks for any help,
    Steph

    I also have this problem with FreeBSD 6.2 and Solaris 10 (was OK with Solaris 7 and 9).
    The file system shared is about 30GB, and is FreeBSD on Sparc64.

  • Application Migration from HP-UNIX to SUN Solaris

    Hi Gurus,
    Need help on the application migration from HP-UNIX to Sun Solaris . Copied the filesystems APPL_TOP, OA_HTML, OA_JAVA, COMMON_TOP/util and COMMON_TOP/_pages from SOURCE( HP) to TARGET SUN-solaris as per 238276.1
    Now trying to clone Autoconfig XML context file on the TARGET System
    perl adclonectx.pl migrate java=\opt\java1.4 \
    contextfile=\ul01\app\applmgr\lasrx\admin\LASRX_fiapd4.xml
    Error: source context file ul01appapplmgrlasrxadminLASRX_fiapd4.xml does not exist.
    Questions:
    ======
    1. we still need to install jdk in the TARGET or copy the file system from source(HP) to target( Solaris) bring the JDK and how to check jdk on Solaris?
    2. In clone autoconfig XML, contextfile=? Is the location of SOURCE or TARGER?
    3. I think running above with root permission.
    Please help somebody on this issue.

    Regards,

    Hello Thomas,
    It looks like a Solaris issue. Check if the home directory
    /home is reserved in the Solaris configuration.
    Check if this fix the problem please perform the following steps:
    1. modify /etc/auto_master file to change the entry for '/home' to say
       '/autohome' instead
    2. reboot
    3. rmdir /home
    4. ln -s /export/home /home (make sure /export/home exists)
    Also you could create soladm manually in advance.
    Hope this helps,
    Dolores

  • Don't know if Solaris is installed

    Hello,
    I am total new comer to Solaris so please bare with me. I know that the Sunfire V100 comes with Soalris 8 pre-installed. However I want to be 100% sure.
    How can I tell if Solaris installed?. I can do basic commands on it like cd and ls.
    Ok I know this going to sound fancy however where do I get Samba to install onto the Solaris please?.

    If you can boot the thing and are able to do basic commands, you obviously have some flavor of Unix.
    Try the uname command and it will tell you what version you are running. Do a man uname to see what the switch setting will show you.
    For Samba try:
    www.sunfreeware.com
    or
    www.samba.org
