Same Library-Different Computer

I recently received a laptop for my birthday. I want to have my itunes account on my new computer but I don't want to have to start all over in terms of songs and such. Is there anyway to sync my ipod to two computers and have two different libraries or is there anyway to move my library onto my new laptop without purchasing all those songs over again?
-Desperate for help

Personaly, I use the same library on my desktop computer and on my Netbook.
The music files and library are located on my desktop, and I access it on my Netbook with a mapped "network drive" (\\Desktop\Music)
It's really simple. Start iTunes on your laptop while holding the "Shift" key. iTunes will ask you to specify where is located the library you want to use. Browse to your library located on yout desktop computer (Network Places or a mapped network drive), and select it (iTunes library.itl).
You'll be able to sync your iPhone on both machines without having to deal with two libraries and multiple copies of the same music files.

  • Same library different user

Am I able to have the same itunes library under different user accounts on the same computer? ie, we have set up an account for the children on the computer but would like to have the exact same itunes library when connecting the ipod etc.

I have done as suggested ie moving the itunes file to my public folder
actually, my instructions were to move the entire iTunes folder, not just a file
'library is locked, from a locked disc or you do not have write permission'
check if you have read & write permissions for your music folder. in the finder, right-click on it and get info. unlock the little padlock (you may have to enter your admin password) and change the permission settings if necessary. next, click on the little gear-shaped icon and apply to enclosed items like so
you might as well give everyone read & write access for good measure. the important part is to apply to enclosed items !
if you moved the iTunes folder to the public folder, perform above operation on that folder instead of the music folder.

  • 2 iPods same Library different syncronizing results

My partner and I have 2 iPod 30Gb w/video that we syncronize with the same iTunes on the same computer. All of our settings are the same. He just plugged his in to rpdate and charge his iPod and it has deleted ALL of the 39 music videos and over 100 songs that we have purchased from iTunes. How does he get all of this back and is it safe for me to plug mine in, or will the same thing happen to me? All of the music and videos still show up in the Library!

    This didn't work.
It is coming back with an error that says that there are 68 files that could not be copied because you are not authorized to play them on this computer. They are all files that we purchased from iTunes as well.

  • Old outlook file and New one...Same Job, different computer.

    Hey Everyone -
I got kind of a unique situation (I think?) that I couldn't find an answer for.
My old work laptop (just for work email) had a graphic card meltdown and so I had to purchase a new computer.  I was able to pull the hard drive out of it and salvage everything, including the outlook file.
Now on my new pc, when I set up my email (POP3) that is linked to some webmail website, I have everything that was online (at that website) in my current outlook.
I was thinking I could just take my old outlook file (7gb worth), bring it into outlook and combine them but I had no such luck.  The other issue is, its still referencing the old outlook file off the old hard drive I have and it happens to be the same
exact name as the new one because its my name @ company name.com
Is there anyway to combine them or maybe even just import the new one, and THEN link it to the website?
    Here's some screen shots:
They won't let me post screen shots.... If I can get "verified" I'll post them up...
    Thanks!
    AJ

What happens when you try to combine them? How did you try to combine them?
Copy the pst file to your new pcs hard drive. It can go in any folder - backing it up is easier if its in My Documents - rename it if the new data file has the same name. Open it in Outlook using File, Open, Outlook Data file. You could set it as default
and move all of the mail that arrived in the new pst into the old one or you can use both pst files.

  • Same skypeaccount, different computer

Recently I bought another computer. First I had a desktop but now I have a laptop.
I'm trying to get skype on my laptop with my current account (witch i just payed for a year subscription). I can't find out how I can make it work. What can I do?
    My skypename is ennovyco08

Me too.. I actually have two different accounts/names. When I try to enter into my macbook my iPhone account name, it says that the name is already taken.
Ideally I would like to delete my account on the macbook or change it to match the iPhone and iPad account.

  • Fillable forms don't look same on different computer

Thanks in advance for fielding my question.  I have created a patient empowerment tool that allows patients to develop and maintain a personal copy of very extensive health records.  I created the forms using LiveCycle and Adobe Pro Extended.  The forms look great on my computer, which is only a couple of years old.  When I opened forms on an older computer I could still fill in the forms, but some of the lines in the tables were missing, which makes the forms more difficult to navigate.  What should I do?

  • HT1535 I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my i

I don't want to sync what is on my iPod to my iPad. (I have a 32gb iPod but only 16gb on iPad. The iPod I use mostly for music.) I can't seem to add the films I have downloaded onto iPad to iTunes. If I could do that, I could erase them from iPad to create more storage.
    This is intensely confusing, sorry.

    Question.....
"I own an iPhone4, an iPod 3rd generation and an iPad 2. I use the same iTunes library but unfortunately synced iPad with a different computer before syncing to my own. Do I risk losing the films/apps I've downloaded onto my iPad if I sync with my iPod?"
    Answer.....
Yes you will lose the films that you downloaded to the iPad when you sync with your own iTunes unless you transfer the purchases into your own iTunes library. Were these movies that you purchased? If so, you might be able to download them again for free. Do you have multiple computers that you sync from or is this someone else's purchased content?
You can select whatever you want to sync to all of your devices in iTunes, you do not have to sync the same content to all device.

  • Can iTunes from 2 different computer use the same library?  (from wireless data storage device)

I purchased a wireless data storage device.  My iTunes content will be moved there and I'm planning on moving my wife's iTunes data to the wireless device.  Can both our iTunes share the same library?

One Apple ID can be shared for store purchases. On the iPhone go to Settings>Store and put in the ID. Then all the songs purchased with that ID can be downloaded from the iTunes store on the phone.
I hope that is what you were asking?

  • HT1364 I used these instructions to move my i-tunes library to the external hard drive that two different home pc's access. My playlists do not show on both Is it possible to have one i-pod synch amid two different computers that use the same library?

I have a sole i-pod and two pc's, used the instructions for "iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder" in the hope that I could synch my one i-pod between two different computers that are sharing the same library. Is it possible to have two seperate computers that only share an external hard drive (one wireless, one not) ? When I am looking at a shared library should it appear the same on both machines (ie: playlists/ purchased list etc)?

If it is moved correctly, playlists will display on both computers and it should be possible.
    Close iTunes.
    Hold <SHIFT> and launch iTunes.
When prompted to create a new or open an existing iTunes library point iTunes to the iTunesLibrary.itl file on the external drive.
The entire library should now show up with all playlists and playcounts.
    Do this on both computers.
Keep in mind that only one computer can access iTunes at a time, otherwise errors will occur when each computer attempts to write to or update the iTunesLibrary.itl file.
Syncing may work seemlessly with both computers, but honestly syncing is designed to work with one and only one computer.

  • Missing files using the same library on two different macs and other minor problems

    Hi everybody,
I'm working on a long documentary and I'm new to FCPX (coming from Avid NC and Edius)...I have and external HD where I stored all the media I'm working with (about 1/2T - 1000 clips)...The library (about 100gb) is stored on the internal drive of my iMac and into the iCloud.
Yesterday, I received my new MacBook and today I tried to work on it. I followed this steps: I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with, I put it on the same folder (movies) it was stored on my iMac and I connected my external HD with all the media...Results? All the clips where gone and the red missing file warning was all over the place.
FIRST QUESTION: How can I work on both computer overcoming this missing files problem? I know I should have put the library on the same external drive but It was a move aiming to
    SUB QUESTION 1:
I went back to my iMac and everything worked fine except for a warning about one of my events (the exclamation point) as you can see from this pic:
I tried to relink the file...but no files to be linked popped up in the relink file window....HOW CAN I KNOW what's wrong in that event in order to fix it?
    SUB QUESTION 2:
I checked the Library info and - as you can see in the pic below - there are 43mb of media in my internal HD...is this maybe the problem preventing me from working on different macs? I tried to consolidate everything to the external HD but still the 43mb thing persist in being on the internal HD. How can I find where exactly it is located? How can I move it to the external HD given that the consolidate option isn't working?
Thank you in advance for your help
    Nico

    1) Don't know why this is happening. It may have something to do with
I downloaded from iCloud the same library I was working with
I'm not clear what procedure you're using here. Using a cloud for storage might change some file tags. Generally users I think keep the library on the same drive as the media, keeping the library backups on the system. There is no real benefit in keeping the media in a separate location. Often users will keep the library in the same folder as the media. It makes backing up using tools like Carbon Copy Cloner very efficient.
1a) This can be difficult to find as there sometimes is no obvious indicator. It might be a missing element in a compound clip, a missing or altered layer in a graphics file, a missing font, a missing effect. These will show up inside the item involved, but may not be apparent in the browser. A missing transition for instance will not be seen until you skim over the project or try to export it.
    2) The 43 MB is a small amount of optimized media. This never prevents relinking. The library is always looking for original media, or proxy media if you're in proxy playback. It never looks for optimized media. If it has it, it uses it, if it doesn't, it uses the original media. If you are using original/optimized playback, you must have the original files. The optimized files are not enough.

  • Need help with transferring iTunes library to different computer

My old iPod stopped working so I bought a new one.  For my older iPod I use a different computer but I want to use a different computer for my new iPod.  I have all my songs on an external hard drive and I want to use that for my other computer.  How do I keep the same library stats such as play count, last played, date added etc. on the new computer?  When I am looking through the iTunes files there are multiple library databases and I don't know which one contains all my stats data that I want to transfer over to the new computer.  Also, how do I transfer all my playlists to the other computer?  Thanks!

Copy the entire iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.

  • Can several members of a household use the same library with different log ins

Once you have downloaded the latest version of iTunes to a computer, can different members of the same family use the same library but with different log ins or do you need different computers?

exactly:) you first gotta transfer the apps from your devices by connecting them and going to file and "transfer purchases" and it should bring the apps over
PS: do make sure that the computer is authorized for all of the purchases do this
-go to store at the very top of the page (usually up there with file, edit, view, and controls)
    -choose authorize this computer
-enter the email address and password associated with the purchases you are transferring and hit authorize!!
-quick transfer and done, you guys can share whatver you transfer to the library
    hope this helps:)

  • Using my iTunes library momentarily on a different computer

Hi everyone... I have a special case for you... Hopefully, it hasn't been answered before.
Let's say I have my iTunes library on a iMac (in users/music/iTunes). And all my music is stored on an external HD and is kept organised by iTunes.
3-4 times a year I organise parties and play music from my library. Of course I don't want to take my iMac with me, I'd rather use my old MacBook (black edition) which still perfectly works.
Question is: for one night, could I copy my iTunes library files from the iMac to the MacBook (in the users/music/iTunes folder). And simply connect my external HD to the MacBook.
Given the location of the library is the same and the music ist externally stored, would it work?
I would use it for one night, then simply go back to using my iMac.
What do you think of this? Thanks in advance for your input and experiences.

Question is: for one night, could I copy my iTunes library files from the iMac to the MacBook (in the users/music/iTunes folder).
I'd copy the entire \Music\iTunes\ folder, not just the library file(s) but yes, it should work fine.
    Alternately, you could...
1 copy the \Music\iTunes\ to the external.
2 Hold Option and launch iTunes.
3 Select *Choose library* and select the _iTunes library_ file in the iTunes older on the external.
4 iTunes menu File -> Organize library - Consolidate.
This will copy everything into the iTunes folder on the external.
Then you can use it with any Mac (including the original) and everything will work fine.
Do step 3 above whenever you connect the external to a different computer.

  • HT4914 My wife and I both have iPhones and iPads. Can we both have access to the same iTunes Match library or do we have to have separate subscriptions?  Our devices are synced to the same computer and we currently download titles from the same library.

My wife and I both have iPhones and iPads. Can we both have access to the same iTunes Match library or do we have to have separate subscriptions?  Our devices are synced to the same computer and we currently download titles from the same library.  We both use separate apple id's on our devices.

You need to reconfigure your phone for use with your Apple ID. I suggest you restore yours as new then reconfigure it with your information and Apple ID. Be sure to disable Find My Phone, if it's enabled, before proceeding.
