Same SWF plays great in Flash but badly in QuickTime!

Hi,
I have created a movie in Flash that has a lot of bitmap images and published it as a .swf file. I am able to open it in QuickTime but the image quality is drastically reduced. When I open the same file in Flash Player it looks great.
Why does QuickTime reduce the quality so much and how can I avoid it? I need it to work good in QuickTime because I plan to import the movie into iScreensaver application that uses QuickTime to make screensavers.

Why does QuickTime reduce the quality so much and how can I avoid it?
Not sure it can be avoided at this point in QT. It is only an assumption, but I would assume the artifact pattern that bothers you is a product of the scaling algorithm as applied to the compressed data and rendered during playback.

  • SWF works great in flash, not in Flash player or web Browser

I am a flash neophyte and I am struggling with a strange problem. I have numerous swf files which work except one that is rather complex. When I debug the FLA of this problem file in flash CS4, it works fine. When I publish the FLA and open the subsequent SWF in Flash, it works fine. I open the same file in Flash Player or when I open it on a browser, the screen is white and nothing happens. When a right click on the browser frame and it offers me all the possibilities of a fully loaded movie, except that there is just a blank screen
The file is online at (if you can open it) and i have attached the swf and swd to this post

    Any ideas are very welcome.

i think i figured it out... i have instances of the
flvplayback component, and their autoplay was auto set to true. i
got so caught up in the actionscript side i forgot about the
component settings. even though my actionscript told them to stop i
guess the flv would load after the code and play anyways. but
locally it would work because the flvs would load instantly.

  • Swf plays in Windows browsers, but not in Mac ones

I'm trying to create a simple swf file containing an m4v file along with default player controls. I want to add this to a Web page.
I've successfully generated such a file, and using the HTML generated by the publish option, I've gotten it to play on IE, FF, Chrome, and Opera under Windows 7.
When I try to open the same Web page from the same location on my Mac, however, I see the player controls with an green animation that indicates loading. The movie itself never loads. I've tried this under Safari, Chrome, and Firefox on Mac, all with the same result. I've also had friends try this on other Macs, with the same result.
Is there some difference in how Windows and OS X deal with SWF files that I need to account for? Something else I could be missing?

Flash player debug version spits out this error:
SecurityError: Error #2148: SWF file http://quietly.fastmail.net/media/bfly.swf cannot access local resource \\VBOXSVR\Documents\Work\Cengage\HTML 5 Illustrated\Unit K\Author 1st\SV working unit files\media\bfly.m4v. This tells me you probably have the file located in the wrong location. Make sure when you are testing that you are testing the live version, not local.
You are pointing to a video on a local hard disk. When you are linking the video in Flash, make sure the path is relative to the swf file and make sure your server mirrors that. Organize your files and folders carefully.

  • Embedded swf plays in preview mode but not when loaded onto site

    http://delormdesigns.com/Oxen2008/2008Fair.html
I have created a swf by first creating an flv from an avi then publishing the swf in flash. I inserted into an html page and can see the video on preview. However, when I load the page and all of the assets onto the site, I get nothing.
I tried to view the swf directly, and it does not play. This may be an issue with how I converted the avi file or how I published the swf. I am starting in this forum just in case.
    Thanks!

Yes, I did exactly what you recommended. I swapped the swf with another, loaded the page, and tested it. It worked perfectly. So, even though the original swf worked fine during the preview test, there must be something about the file that does not work when loaded on the site.
I found an article about creating and inserting a flv file from an avi...that will get me 1/2 way there so I will be trying that. Perhaps there was a step in the avi to flv process that needs fixing...and then the swf creation would work.
    I appreciate your responses!

  • Moive plays in Finder preview, but not in Quicktime

Have several movies made using a REALBasic QT plugin. Most of the movies are fine, but a few refuse to play in QT. Double clicking causes a 10-second delay, after which the player opens with the controls (and it's playing) but there's no image area. However, the movie plays fine in the Finder preview.
I've tried using QT to export the bad movie, but QT hangs.
Any ideas on how to extract or repair the movie?

    It played for me but...
A couple of issues you should address.

  • TS1424 I can no longer purchase music or books. Visa etc up to date. Downloads sign just keeps flashing but not downloading

I have downloaded books and music for two years. Now when I try to the songs do not download. When I press green buy book it goes blank and nothing downloads. My visa is fine and details current. Also when I shut down and next day open up iTunes the same download light is still flashing but nothing downloading. I do not know how to stop or delete this.
    Can anyone help?

Ah yes school boy error there out of frustration and discontent..
My issue is with music/apps/films etc not downloading from iTunes / App Store.
They initially fail and message is displayed stating unable to download / purchase at this time, yet if I retry it says I've already purchased (?) or alternatively I go to the purchased section and there they are waiting with the cloud symbol..
However some items get frozen in the download window and cannot be retried or deleted. Message appears stating to tap to retry, but even if you stole every bath and sink in the uk you'd still not have enough taps.
I post here as the iTunes guys are useless in there 'help' and have only advised posting here or phoning apple, at my expense, to explain a problem that could be rectified by forwarding my original email to a techie. However the tech team apparently don't have an email address as they're from ye olde Middle Ages..!
    Anyways I digress.
So I tried sync to pc, but instead of showing the file as ready to listen/use/view, the iCloud symbol shows and I'm back to square one as the item is unable to download..
At frustration station waiting for a train from pain...
All my software is up to date, and had all worked fine prior to the last big iOS update that resulted in all the changes in display and dismay.

Glad you got it all working! Good job!
Just a note (for yourself and anyone else using Flash) on the rumor that all Flash files must be in the root folder... simply not true. In my opinion, as with any other type of files on your site, I'd suggest putting them in organized folders.... all the images in one folder... then subfolder for diff categories of images, flv video files in another folder, maybe keep all the .swf files in another, the xml data files in another, etc. Flash asset files can be just as organized as any other type of files.
From an old article.... for review:
    Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.

  • Using embedded SWF, get a white flash when its to play

    Hi,
We develop e-Learning content using swf files embedded in
DCRs. We have started noticing a problem with the new Shockwave
player 10.1+ in that there is a noticable flicker or white flash
before the swf plays or is told to move on.
Has anyone had a similar problem? Does anyone know a
    solution?
We are using Director 8.5 and Flash 8.0. files published for
    Flash Player 5.0.
    Simon

Well dont all fall over each other trying to post a possible
    solution ;-).
Seems that we found the problem. We use shared script
libraries (cst & cct). It appears that there is a line in our
lingo code that sets the flash sprite cast member automatically
direct to stage. Shockwave player 10.1 + does not seem to like this
on standard speed machines and causes a flickering border around
the flash animations, which is really noticable. The line of code
    reads as so:
    sprite(channelNo).directToStage = true
We simply commented this out and the page functions fine.
Incedently, if I manually set the flash cast member as direct to
stage, we get the same issue, only more exagerated. This must be a
bug in the 10.1+ player as we don't get the issue at all on
    machines running the 8.5 player.

  • Embed same SWF file multiple times in Flash file

I want to include the same SWF file multiple times in the same flash file. I have a plain box that is clear, that becomes visible when clicked. I want to create a grid of them (about 50+). If I copy the layers and actions, they interfere with each other so I want to embed multiple SWF files into one file and then save it to embed in an interactive PDF. If I save one square and embed it into the PDF multiple times, the file becomes too big to work. How can I embed interactive SWF files over and over into 1 SWF file? I don't have a ton of knowledge with Flash....

you edit your html file to embed multiple copies of your swf.
it's generally easier to control the layout if you use swfobject (but you can just copy the code published by flash pro) to embed the swf.

  • SWF plays in preview but not when published

I have seen similar issues posted but none dealing with this
precise problem. I have two SWFs, one of which loads at the end of
the other. When SWF 1 is played back in Flash or when published in
HTML format, SWF2 plays as is should. When SWF is exported to
another program (e.g. Frontpage or Ektron, CMS), SWF2 will not
play. Interestingly, when SWF2 is exported to the other program on
its own, it plays fine so font support is not an issue.
I have also tried altering the level in the LoadMovieNum
script (0, 1, 2) as well as republishing both SWFs from the
original FLA file. So far zippo.
    Any ideas??

At least on my side it only plays the first video and does not progress.  There are twenty-five videos after this, they are all very short  but they progress.   Is this progressing for you?  Perhaps it is my computer if so. Please let me know.
    Thanks again,
    Mark.

  • Flash Plays in Google Video but not in You Tube

I have Explorer 8 -  latest Flash Player is enabled but it only plays in some sites but not in others - and for the sites it plays in it doesn't load automatically - i have to click on that bar that appears at the top of the browser window to allow it to play - other site tell me that i need to download Flash Player - pain in the neck - any one else have this problem? is there any way to fix it?
PS - i have been looking at adobe products for possible purchase but this is not a good showcase for their products -

I've been having the same problems only with different web sites. It's been happening to me since the end of March...I'm getting really sick of it. I've changed my internet security settings, checked that I had all the latest program updates, uninstalled and reinstalled Flash, and so many other things, nothing has worked! I really hope this gets resolved soon.

  • MKV x264 Movie plays great on QT X but choppy at Front Row

When I playing 720p .mkv (x264) files with QT X (with Perian) at fullscreen there is no problem, movie plays at great speed. But when I tried to play with them Front Row it is always choppy (I waited for buffering ending).
I uninstall Snow Leopard and install Leopard but the problem is unsolved (QT 7 Pro plays movie without a problem at fullscreen).
What is wrong with Front Row? It uses the same Quick Time Framework.
I can not use my Mac Mini 2.1 as a home theatre system because of that.
My conf: Mac Mini 2.1 2 Ghz Core 2 Duo 4 GB RAM Superdrive

It could be a 'difficult' form of Matroska file. FYI Matroska is just a container like MOV or AVI, and some mkv have the video encoded with Real Video Codec (RV9 RV10). Perian+QT can't decode this, but VLC will play .mkv files just fine on OS X, as long as they don't use H.264!
It's a bit of a lottery until Matroska decide to support the Apple platform. I have found this:
    http://mkv4mac.free.fr/index.php?lang=en&p=lec
    which may help.
But there may be another workaround: 1. Get Info the mkv file
    2. Change to extension to wmv. Save as wmv and that could work better.
Or this link may be helpful:

Yes .. it is a little different .. got some extras and has

There is a separate section on mobile devices (in the Adobe
