Hi,
BIW is mostly on reporting side
The reporting, analysis, and interpretation of business data is of central importance to a company in guaranteeing its competitive edge, optimizing processes, and enabling it to react quickly and in line with the market. As a core component of SAP NetWeaver, the SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) provides data warehousing functionality, a business intelligence platform, and a suite of business intelligence tools that enable businesses to attain these goals. Relevant business information from productive SAP applications and all external data sources can be integrated, transformed, and consolidated in SAP BW with the toolset provided. SAP BW provides flexible reporting and analysis tools to support you in evaluating and interpreting data, as well as facilitating its distribution. Businesses are able to make well-founded decisions and determine target-orientated activities on the basis of this analysis.

The following graphic shows how the SAP BW concept is structured. Data Warehousing, BI Platform and BI Suite represent the core areas of SAP BW.
Integration
The following graphic shows where SAP BW is positioned within SAP NetWeaver. Furthermore, those subareas that incorporate SAP BW are listed. These are described in detail below.
Integration with Other SAP NetWeaver Components
BEx Information Broadcasting allows you to publish precalculated documents or Online links containing Business Intelligence content to SAP Enterprise Portal (SAP EP). The portal role Business Explorer illustrates the various options that are available to you when working with content from SAP BW in the Enterprise Portal.  For more information, see Information Broadcasting.
You are able to integrate content from SAP BW in SAP EP using the BEx Broadcaster, the BEx Web Application Designer, the BEx Query Designer, KM Content, the SAP Role Upload or the Portal Content Studio. For more information, see Integration into the SAP Enterprise Portal. For an overview of the ways in which BI content can be integrated into the Enterprise Portal, see Overview: Ways of Integrating and Displaying BW content in the Portal.
The documents and metadata created in SAP BW (metadata documentation in particular) can be integrated using the repository manager in Knowledge Management in SAP Enterprise Portal. The BW Metadata Repository Manager is used within BEx Information Broadcasting. For more information, see BW Document Repository Manager and BW Metadata Repository Manager.
You can send data from SAP and non-SAP sources to SAP BW using SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI). In SAP BW the data is placed in the delta queue where it is available for further integration and consolidation. Data transfer using SAP XI is SOAP-based. For more information, see Data Transfer Using SAP XI.
Integration with SAP BI Content Add-On
With SAP BI Content, SAP delivers pre-configured role and task-based information models and reporting scenarios for SAP BW that are based on consistent metadata.  SAP BI Business Content offers selected roles in a company the information they need to carry out their tasks. The information models delivered cover all business areas and integrate content from almost all SAP and selected external applications.
SAP BI Content is delivered as an add-on to SAP BW.

Description
Data Warehousing
Data warehousing in SAP BW represents the integration, transformation, consolidation, cleanup, and storage of data. It also incorporates the extraction of data for analysis and interpretation. The data warehousing process includes data modeling, data extraction, and administration of the data warehouse management processes.
The central tool for data warehousing tasks in SAP BW is the Administrator Workbench.
BI Platform
The Business Intelligence platform serves as the technological infrastructure and offers various analytical technologies and functions. These include the OLAP processor, the Metadata Repository, Business Planning and Simulation, special analysis processes such as Data Mining, and the Reporting Agent.
BI Suite: Business Explorer
The SAP BW Business Intelligence Suite, the Business Explorer (BEx), provides flexible reporting and analysis tools for strategic analyses, operational reporting, and decision-making support within a business. These tools include query, reporting, and analysis functions. As an employee with access authorization you can evaluate past or current data on various levels of detail, and from different perspectives, not only on the Web but also in MS Excel.
You can use BEx Information Broadcasting to distribute Business Intelligence content from SAP BW by e-mail either as precalculated documents with past data, or as links with live data. You can also publish it to the Enterprise Portal.
The Business Explorer allows a broad spectrum of users access to information in the SAP BW using the Enterprise Portal, the Intranet (Web application design) or mobile technologies.
Development  technologies
·        BI Java SDK
With the BI Java SDK you can create analytical applications with which you access both multidimensional (Online Analytical Processing or OLAP) and tabular (relational) data. You can also edit and display this data. BI Java Connectors, a group of four JCA-enabled (J2EE Connector Architecture) resource adapters, implement the BI Java SDK APIs and allow you to connect applications that you have created with the SDK to various data sources.
·        Open Analysis Interfaces
The Open Analysis Interfaces make various interfaces available for connecting front-end tools from third-party providers.
·        Web Design API
The Web design API and table interface allows you to realize highly individual scenarios and demanding applications with customer-defined interface elements.

  • SAP Netweaver/General settings/Set Countries/Set Country-Specific Checks

    Hi All,
    following the customizing navigation:
    SAP Netweaver/General settings/Set Countries/Set Country-Specific Checks
By the flag "Other data", I can activate the check of tax numbers.
So, SAP gives me an error message if a tax number filled in master data of customers or vendors is wrong.
I'd like to change the message in warning...
I've tried to do it, but without unsuccessfully.
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks

    Hello,
This is a cross client activity which is not directly available in the system in OBA5.
The error message that is AR191
You need to go to transaction code OBMSG and enter the message number in application area.
In case if you get a warning message at this time stating that: "Changes to Repository or cross-client Customizing are not permitted". In that case you need to check with your basis administration to allow the cross client settings in SCC4. Until you make necessary changes in SCC4, your OBMSG transaction code is in ONLY DISPLAY mode.
    Application Area: AR
    Message No.191
    Allowed: W
    Standard: E
    Save your entries.
Now this is available in OBA5 and give the application area AR and enter the message number.
In Online and batch put the message number to W.
    Save your entries.
    Hope this solve your issue.

  • SAP Certification - general

    Hi Everyone..
I wanted to know if there is a general SAP Certification I could obtain without doing or learning about the modules in SAP?
    Regards,
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew
you could look at doing technical certifications relating to System Administration (Basis), HANA area.
Go to https://training.sap.com/g/en/ and search by Role (Certification) to see what is available. There are categories of roles such as System Administrator, Technical Architect, etc that you can drill-into to have a better look at options. HANA certs are under System Administrator.
The SAP Certifications map out the courses you need to cover to obtain the knowledge. You could look at enrolling in them or you could look at SAP Learning Hub Subscription to get access to all the training material. A key challenge you may find is access to a system to practice (unless you have access).

This step should be performed only after ECC people complete the configuration of fiscal variant, unit of measure and currency key on ECC side right??? Please confirm.

  • SAP/Java General Help

I am Java/J2EE Developer with 5 years of exp, looking for career shift to SAP.I am specifically interested in learning SAP modules involving Java so that I can leverage my existing skills. Looking for advice on what modules to choose and how to and where to startThanks in advance.
PS: i am new to SAP forums have not explored all forums yet. If iam posting in the wrong place, please point me to right forum

    Hi,
You are about to follow the path which every Java developer in SAP goes through.
Broadly , Java is used wherever there are web based intefaces forming the UI layer over the SAP module.
SAP CRM module is one them. It covers ISA, B2B BD apllications that utilise a lot of java coding and language to design the UI screens and jsp using the struts framework.
Since you are a technical guy, I would suggest you to start learning about ,
    1. NWDS - Netweaver Development Studio, a IDE to build and run java applications. ( Though it does a lot more than this)
         http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/ae/f0b1ee32a040d98b111915b23fb66e/frameset.htm
         http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwce10/helpdata/en/ae/f0b1ee32a040d98b111915b23fb66e/content.htm
    2. Core CRM applications -ISA and Webshop. ( Its internet sales where Java has an edge)
       http://help.sap.com/saphelp_crm40/helpdata/en/72/7681532ca9d3119b4c0060b0671acc/content.htm
       http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/crm/internetsales/featuresfunctions/index.epx
    3. SAP Java connector  - Required at all places where your java programs wants to "talk" with SAP.
         http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/6f/1bd5c6a85b11d6b28500508b5d5211/content.htm
There lot more in store - IPC( Internet Pricing module, used in ISA), Java Web Dynpro , Enterprise Portal, little bit of ABAP programming ( you need to learn it to have a deeper understanding)  etc
    Wish you luck n success.

  • SAP BCM - General Forum

    Hello All,
I was trying to find a specify forum for SAP BCM - Business Communications Management.
Please correct me if I wrong but SDN don't have already a SAP BCM forum. Normally people put the questions under CRM components.
It would be useful to have a specific forum for this topic since BCM is another world... with a very different architecture.
It is possible to create this?
Waiting for your comments / corrections.
    Best Regards,
    Erick Ilarraza

    Hello Erick,
You are correct, there is no SAP Business Communications Management specific forum yet.
We have identified a clear need for it and have already started our plans toward that.
Our goal is to have more BCM specific contents available in SDN in the future.
    Kind Regards,

  • Interconnect SAP-Adapter generall questions

    Hello,
we run Application Server Forms & Reports standalone.
Can I install SAP-Adapter in the same Oracle Home?
Do I need a infrastructure database, if yes, for what?
    Thank you in advance.
    Regards
    Frank

    Frank,
You can have the interconnect components in one Oracle home, and the adapters in another; or have all I/C components in the same home. It is up to how you wish to manage these components. You just need to ensure that they are on the same physical server if you want to it to be performant and managed.
The Infrastructure database is usually both these two things:--
    * the metadata store (i.e. the "Design Time" part of the InterConnect - managed by the use of iStudio), and
    * the "Run time" message hub, store and forward facility using the Hubs queues.
There are a few topologies that Oracle suggest, have a look at their Installation Guides for Integration, but if you already have Oracle Homes on your server (e.g. for Oracle Applications) then you must NOT install InterConnect there. You MUST put InterConnect component in another home(s).

  • General SAP advice

    Dear Experts,
First, sorry if I am writing in the wrong section. Please let me know the right place to post such a question.
I am a young accountant in an old distribution company which is currently catching up on the modern methods. We are implementing SAP.
No one around me has an idea about it and since I used to develop databases previously, it was decided that I would help people after their training period to use SAP and I would also generate ABAP reports.
Please be so kind as to point me to some recent valuable publications (paper or electronic). I would like to learn more about:
    SAP in general
    FI-CO modules
    ABAP programming for report generation
It is important for me to get up on it as early as possible because people would rely on me and I see no one else whocould help me or them.
Also, since I intend to master SAP as far as my tight working schedule allows, I hope I would be usefull to this community so by helping me, you'd be contributing to the community on the long run.
    Thanks.

    Hello Tod
Welcome to the BPX & SDN . You may want to consider following the FI-CO information to be found at http://help.sap.com and specifically the SAP ERP Central component at http://help.sap.com/saphelp_erp60_sp/helpdata/en/e1/8e51341a06084de10000009b38f83b/frameset.htm . The financials information can be found there.
I would also recommend that if you have already installed a development environment that you use your Installation key and register on http://service.sap.com . Of course you may already have that and be using that to access SDN. (The support portal has key information regarding Master and Install guides).
I would also review some of the documentation in the SAP best practice repository, if you have a good look around you will find solution scope, business blueprint and configuration information.
    http://help.sap.com/bp_wholesalev1500/wholesale_us/documentation/WS_v1500_Solution_Scope_EN_US.doc
For ABAP development I would have a good look around the SDN forums, make sure that you first search for answers to questions that you may have before asking them. Most questions have already been answered in one form or another. You are more likely to get answers if you can show a well thought out question and that you have already spent time trying to find the answer.

  • AD SSO with entry point for SAP users....

A client would like to use Active Directory (AD) Single Sign On rather than SAP for authentication purposes.  There are two potential scenarios we would need to support:
Scenario 1, access to SAP BW (General Ledger, Profit Centre Accounting) and relational systems.  There would be no security restrictions at the database level (OLAP and relational).  The majority of users would access data from this scenario.
Scenario 2, access to HR SAP BW OLAP cube.  SAP Security roles would be enforced.
Scenario 1 user and a scenario 2 user are not mutually exclusive.  Therefore an HR user could have the rights to query a relational system or a non HR SAP system.  Second, not all users in Scenario 1 will have an SAP account, but they will need to access non HR SAP data.  Valero does not want to create new SAP accounts for these people.
    I see two possible solutions:
    1.  Create two infoview entry points (eg different ports).  One for AD SSO, the other for a SAP challenge and response.  We used to have two infoviews in XIR2 when we deployed the SAP integration kit.  How would I do this in 3.1?
    2.  Use Server Side Trust and SNC.
Can anyone offer any opinions of ideas?
    Thanks,
    Steve
Edited by: Steve Bickerton on Dec 17, 2008 5:43 PM

    Hi Steve,
you are correct that SNC  for the client authentication and the server side trust (based on SAP Crypto. lib.) will solve this

  • Advantages of using BPR in an SAP project

    Hi
Could anyone tell me what are the advantages and significance of using the Business Process Respository (BPR) while starting an implementation Project (or template project). Lets say as opposed to NOT using the BPR. What are the pros and cons of the two approaches? And how reliable are these BPR contents?
    Appreciate your answers
    Drake

    Hi Drake,
BPR comes from SAP and delivered via Software Component ST-ICO. Periodically, SAP keeps upgrading this component and in my view, one of the best enablers of Solution Manager.
From a Project point of view, if you use BPR provided content, at Scenario, Process level, it inherits all 'associated' assignments, like Transaction Codes, IMG nodes relevant for a given Process Step. Also, it loads any other accelerator documents from SAP in General Documentation Tab.
These contents are helpful for Business Process Monitoring (BPM) too when you want to 'inherit' the Processes and Process Steps defined in Project into Solution. There are standard metrics that SAP provides for process steps in BPM that would be more easily compatible if a project had got the same terminology.
BPR, however, isn't as comprehensive as we may like it to be. It's rich on some areas and frugal on certain others.
In terms of 'reliability', well there is no specific aspersions that could be cast  on it
If it's rich, it's visible and useful; where it's not good enough, we can always add some content and still make some good use of it.
Another advantage of using BPR is that when a new version of BPR is downloaded and applied, using SA_PROJECT_UPGRADE transaction, the system will offer a chance to see areas which are impacted by a change and those can accepted in SOLAR01/02.
So, BPR-led content can always be kept up-to-date.
In my personal experience, I have realised that 2 consultants can easily have 4 opinions! On ever fluid concepts like Scenario, Processes etc. to attain a convergence of thoughts and minds is a difficult proposition. BPR allows for a project to close the gap and adopt SAP ways of definition and helps jump-start the project. The time saved is better used in value added areas or in rigorous testing and training !
The only firms/ projects which may want to shy from BPR could  be those:
    - who have a fairly well established vocabulory of defining their day to day processes and where retrofitting SAP definitions can be counter productive
    - who have traditionally used advanced platforms like ARIS or other tools
    - who work in industries inadequately represented by SAP

  • ISO code 3 character - usage in SAP

    Hello experts,
There is field "ISO code 3 character" which can be customised under t-code : OY01 [alternatively - SAP NetWeaver >> General Settings >> Set Countries >> Define Countries in mySAP Systems ('New Entries')]
It possibly can be entered in transaction OY07 also.
Can anyone tell about its usage in SAP? Once this is entered in customisation, where is this field available for entry/or where does this field show up? (e.g. once document type is configured, it is available for entry in FB01 header data/once trading partner is configured, it is available for entry in vendor master data)

    Hi All,
I am working in Sales & Marketing in a Logistic Service Provider Company.
Our Product is Container (in which RMG & other commodities are transported
via ship from/to all over the world). Our Sales Target is planned in yearly
basis on Quantity of Containers, Number of Buyers, Different Corridors,
Different Commodities etc etc. How we can map our Sales Target Planning in SAP?
    Regards,
    Syed Waseem Reza

    Sir,
Can you please let us know the high level process flow you have already mapped? I am facing the same problem.... I am here delivering my existing process flow.
We didnu2019t go for any other special module of SAP
The General modules of SAP including
    u2022     SD(Sales & Distribution),
    u2022     MM(Material Management),
    u2022     WM(Warehouse Management),
    u2022     LE (Logistic Execution),
    u2022     FI(Finance), CO(Controlling),
    u2022     FA(Fixed Asset)
    Basic Process Mapping:
u2022     SO(Sales Order) may create directly or against Qut(Quotation)
u2022     All SO line item will create the PR (Purchase Requisition)
u2022     Warehouse does the GR (Goods Receive) against PR indirectly SO.
u2022     Empty and Laden Container enters to Warehouse as a material received.
u2022     TO (Transfer Order) of Goods to the Bin Location
u2022     Creates the Outbound Delivery against GR.
u2022     Picking of Goods from WH Bin to Deliver Place
u2022     Packing of Goods to the Container as per Shipment.
u2022     Outgoing Invoice for collection against Outbound Delivery
u2022     Incoming Invoice for payment against Shipment Cost.
Management wants to give one sales target such as...
    Year -SO-----Material Group---Material Group
    --(20' Container)-----(40' Container)
    2009-----10,0004,000--
    2,000
and in the end of the year, Management wants to see the see the following report.
    Year      Targeted      Achieved     Target(20') Achieved(20')  Target(40')  Achieved(40')
    --SOSO-----
    2009-----10,0008,0004,0002,0002,000--
    1,500
For this I have to store my sales target in any of SAP document, because i have already all the Achieved information in my existing system, because material groups are keeping in the Shipment/Packing phase of the process, So i can easily make the report, but i cant get the Target as I don't have any place to store the same.
Can anybody help me to proceed?

  • OpenDocument URL for SAP BW query

    Hi,
We have built universe on top of SAP BI query and created the variable for Fiscal Year. When I run any WebI report created from the same Universe it automaticaly pops up the window to pass the parameter for Fiscal Year.
I have created two reports one Parent and other one is child. For the child report I am passing the Fiscal Period value as Period 05 2010. When I click on Parent report link to show child report it shows me the MDX error instead of report. (The report works fine without link)
    Prompt Name: Fiscal Year
    Values: Example Period 04 2010,Period 05 2010, Period 06 2010 etc
