SAP BW Query in CR2008: only tech names displayed when query is changed

Hello Experts,
we have the following constellation / problem:
SAP Query BW 7.0
a report built upon this query with Crystal Reports 2008
the report is currently not using any of the Database fields, is just consists of the layout
Now we want to change / add the underlying query. But either if we add the new query or replace the old query by the new query, the result is the same:
only the technical names of the query structures (UIDs) are shown, neither the descriptions nor the technical names (concerning SAP BW) are shown.
The 'new' query is a slightly changed copy of the old query, I don´t think that is has to do anything with the query.
As mentioned, everything seems to be perfect as long as we just do 'Create Report upon query', then the descriptions and technical names (not the UIDs) are shown, but not if we add / replace the existing query through another.
Many thanks for your help in advance !
Frank

So the solution seems to be:
Open the Query Designer and tick 'Allow External Access to this Query' on the Advanced Tab to allow access with OLE DB for OLAP to the query.
Then the query appears in Crystal Reports under the source system and 'Queries' whereas before it is only accessible directly under the source system.
If a query is accessible under the source system, the BW Query Driver is used, which seems not to be able to cope correctly with the technical names.
If accessed via 'Queries', the BW MDX Driver comes into action and not only the tech names but also the description etc. is displayed.

  • How to Name Fields when querying database?

I am trying to query a database and then use "Split Fields" from data manipulation. The table I am querying has 100+ columns which has details about a User. I am able to automate perfectly the way I want.
The only annoying piece is that when I try to query the published data from split fields, I have to look into the database and find the number and then add it here. Is there a way to name these fields in a friendly way - like Username, phone number, DOB,
    etc etc

  • Date should be displayed on query execution

    hello all
when v execute a query date should display when query is executed.like if i execute query on 01/06/2006 this date should be displayed and when execute query on 01/02/2006 this date should be displayed?,like that so on?
kindly anyone let me know how it should be done?
    how this should be done?
    many thanks

    hi Balaji,
in bex analyzer, you can display the date with menu business explorer -> display text elements -> general, you will see some info, 'author'... 'last refreshed'.
in web (WAD) you can use web item 'text element' and choose element type 'general text' and
    element id 'SYUZEIT'.
    element id can be used
    general text elements:
    - technical name of the query (REPTNAME)
    - description of the query (REPTXTLG)
    - InfoProvider (INFOCUBE)
    - key date for the query (SRDATE)
    - validity of the data (date and time) (ROLLUPTIME)
    - the person who wrote the query (AUTHOR)
    - the last time the query was changed (date and time) (MODTIME)
    - the last person to make changes to the query (MODUSER)
    - current user (SYUSER)
    - the last time the query was refreshed (date and time) (SYUZEIT)
    hope this helps.

  • SAP Variable Tech Name in MDX

    Hi Friends,
I have a question related to SAP Variable usage in MDX statement.
I have a hierarchy node variable, which is mandatory and has a default value..
When technical name of this variable is something like ZXYZ_SM, it appears differently in MDX, as !V0000017..
Problem is, i have to use this variable in two seperate queries and this MDX technical name changes query to query..
Eg.: when it is !V0000017 in Query A, it is !V0000015 in Query B.. I need them to be identical across queries, because this is a global filter of a huge dashboard..
Can you please help me how to proceed? I need solution on Bex side..
    Thanks in advance,
    Sunil
    ====================================================
SAP Variable tech name needs to be shorter than 10 chars in order to be supported by MDX. So, changing variable name fixed the issue...
    ====================================
Edited by: SunilKmr on Nov 29, 2010 1:27 PM

What Rohit is trying to say is that the technical name of the BEX variables is not shown to an end user,
and also not used to combine user input, only the prompt text is.
(BTW, the technical name is determined by the position of the variable prompt in the BEX query,
so the first variable shown will be !V000001, the second !V000002, etc.
So in your case the order in the two BEX queries is different)
So if you have two BEX queries, this means two universes.
Now when you want to report data out of these two universes you will build a query in the WebI report on each universe.
Both queries will ask you for input for their respective BEX variables,
but to do that they using the prompt text, not the tech name.
By default this prompt text will be the name of the BEX variable,
but you can change the text in the universe without implications.
As long as the two prompt texts are the same for these two different tech name variables,
BO will give just one prompt and feed it to !V0000017 in the query on the universe for BEX query A
and !V0000015 in the query on the universe for BEX query B.
    Hope this is clear enough,
    Marianne

  • BW query tech name changes

    Hello Experts,
I have crystal report created on top of BW query, the report works good, but some how its technical name is getting added 1 in the end, example : my query technical name is : FI_q01 but it got changed to FI_q01_1.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Kirsh

    Thanks Amit,
I am creating through file->new and connection type sap bw mdx query.
this is happening for some reports only.
Its adding 1 for all the objects:example sales document : its looking like sdq1_1.0doc_num instead of sd_q1.0doc_num , like this its doing for all the objects if the query technical name is changed to sd_q1_1 from sd_q1.
Also, another strange behavior is it is pulling technical name of one query and description of another query.
example: if i have a query on MM with name MM_q1 and description as material mgm and FI query as FI_q1 and description as Finance qry then its pulling for MM query as FI_q1 and description as material mgm instead of MM_q1.
    Thanks,
    Krish

  • Multi Row Selector using Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only)

    Hi,
I created a tabular report which had a multi row select in it - got the deleting working fine.
Am now creating a second tabular report, but because of the SQL:
    select
    "ID",
    "ID" ID_DISPLAY,
    "RESNUMBER",
    "RESDESCRIPTION",
    decode(RESTYPE,'R','Right Party','W','Wrong Party'),
    decode(DMCFLAG,'Y','Yes','N','No'),
    decode(SALEFLAG,'Y','Yes','N','No')
    from "CALL_RESULTS"
I have to select the option Use Generic Column Names (parse query at runtime only) otherwise I cannot save the form.
My problem is I am now unable to add a multi row selector to the tabular form. If I do and run the form I get the following error - failed to parse SQL query: ORA-00904: "COL11": invalid identifier. Also when I go back and edit the form the multi row selector has been removed.
Can anyone tell me why I can't add a row selector like I previously could?
    Regards
    Simon

    Arie,
I added aliases and to the decode columns, and I can now add a row selector to the form without any problems.
Thank you very much for your help.

  • Make appear technical name and name of a query in separates columns

    Hello everybody,
I have a question about menus of the Bex explorer (but maybe it's related to any menus of SAP).
I would like to show the technical name of a query or a workbook in a single column, something like :
Technical name | Name of the query/workbook | Last modification
For now, I can only the technical name or the name (or both side by side) but I can't have three separated columns.
Is there any mean you know to do this ?
    Regards,
    Julien DERIOT

Thanks for your quick answer but it's not exactly what I'm looking for.
When I speak about the bex, I mean when you click on the icon to open a query/workbook, you see all of them inside a window.
    Actually, I can see :
Name workbook | Last changed on
And I would like to see :
Technical name | Name workbook | Last changed on

  • Authorization in BEx Query Designer: "read only" for definitions of variables

    Hello,
I`m developing a concept of authorizations for key user who should be able to maintain certain
objects in the query designer. For other objects they should have access “read only”.
The users have authorizations  to  design new queries.  They should be able to use existing variables
(SAP Business Content ( 0*) and customer variables (z*). On this point, I have a problem: in the selection window of the query designer there are only buttons to create, to delete and to edit a variable.
The user must have authorizations for changing, although he just wants to look for the definition
of a variable (if he wants to see their basic or global settings before using the variable).
I can´t find a possibility to switch from “edit” to “read only”.
The users should only see and apply variables from others (SAP, collegues), but he mustn´t be able to
    change them.
The user needs the following authorization objects:  S_RS_COMP , activity =02 (change), also
authorization object S_RS_COMP1. If I give the users only activity 03 (display),
the user get the message: “display not allowed”.
Is there any possibility to give a key user the authorization to display all variables with
    their definitions?
    Best regards
    Ricarda Seyb

    Hi raghukan,
This is may be due to the authorization but still you can check the consistency check for these queries using RSRV.

  • Bex Query: Too many table names in the query The maximum allowable is 256

    Hi Experts,
I need your help, Im working on a Query using a multiprovider of 2 datastores, I need to work with cells to assign specific acconts values to specific rows and columns, so I was creating a Structure with elements from a Hierarchy, but I get this error when I'm half way of the structure:
"Too many table names in the query. The maximum allowable is 256.Incorrect syntax near ')'.Incorrect syntax near 'O1'."
Any idea what is happening? is ti possible to fix it? do I need to ask for a modification of my Infoproviders? Some one told me is possible to combine 2 querys, is it true?
Thanks a lot for your time and pacience.

    Hi,
The maximum allowable limit is 256 holds true. It is the max no. of characteristics and key figures that can be used in the column side. While creating a structure, you create key figures (restricted or calculated) and formulas etc.. The objects that you use to create these should not be more than 256.
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/EN/4d/e2bebb41da1d42917100471b364efa/frameset.htm
Not sure if combination of 2 query's is possible.  You can use RRI. Or have a woorkbook with 2 queries.
    Hope it helps.
