SAP data files

Hi
My SAP version is ECC 5.0 with oracle 9.2.0.7 on SOLARIS 10.
My current DB size is 300GB where i have 23 data files on my oracle/<SID>/sapdata1...4
I have implemented MM,FICO,PP,QM modules.My monthly DB growth rate is 30-35 GB.
My Questions
01.Is this growing rate is acceptable.If not how can i find the error.
02.PSAP<SID> table space is the place where my data is written.I have to keep on monitoring the space on this table space and i have to manually extend that once it is filled.Why do i need to do this whwre i have enable "AUTOEXTEND ON" and why it is not automatically extend.
03.Table reqorganization/Index Rebuilding  is not giving me any gain and why?
Pls give me your feed back.
With the current growing rate i can go for another 1.5 yrs but after that what should i do..

Hi,
Including the brtools,
>> we are using Oracle 10g on RHEL5.4 64Bit i want to move all my sap data files along with Temp are there any specific notes that i need to follow apart form 868750 and there is no mention of Temp file in this note.
You can move all the datafiles including TEMP tablespace, by the statement, below;
ALTER DATABASE RENAME FILE '<old_full_path>' TO '<new_full_path>';
>> Apart from this i want to know what changes need to be done in the control file for the information of the new file system,so that the database can be started using changed control file having information of the renamed and moved file system.
You will not change anything on control files, manually. It will be updated after you executed the statement, respectfully
>> Are there any oracle parameters or profile parameters that needs to be changed and how much downtime is required.
No you don't need to change any database profile parameter after you move the datafile(s). If you prepare a script and execute it, it will be done in a few seconds. This is because only configuration will be updated. The datafiles will not be created from the scratch.

  • Timeouts increased after we moved USR, SAP data files and TLogs to new SAN

    We are having issues with timeouts after we moved our USR, SAP SQL Datafiles and SAP Transaction Logs from our old SAN to a new SAN.
    Timeouts for SAPGUI users are set to 10 minutes.
    We are running Windows Server 2003 with SQL Server 2005.
    The SAP database has 8 datafiles with a total size of about 350GB.
    Procedure we used to move SAP to new SAN:
    1. Attached 3 new SAN Volumes
         -a. USR
         -b. Data Files
         -c. Transaction Logs
    2. Shutdown SAP and SQL services
    3. Alligned the new volumes with a 1024kb offset and gave the Data files and Transaction log volumes a 64kb allocation
        size. (The alignment and 64kb allocation size were not setup for these volumes on the old SAN)
    4. Copied the 3 volumes from old to new.
    5. Changed the new volumes drive letter to the drive letters of the old volumes.
         -a. I had to restart in order to change the USR volume.
         -b. Because of this I had to resetup the sapmnt and saploc shares.
    6. Started SQL services and then SAP services and everything came up just fine.
    The week before we had anywhere from 1 to 9 timeouts per day.
    This week: Monday had 20 and Tuesday had 26.
    On Monday we saw that MD07 was the only transaction that was timing out, but Tuesday had others as well.
    The amount of users in the system is about the same.  The amount of orders going in are about the same.  No big transports went in right before we switched.
    Performance counters that I know about for disk look a lot better on the Data Files.
    - PAGEIOLATCH_SH ms/request is about 50% better
    - Under I/O Performance in DBACOCKPIT:
      - MS/OP is now anywhere from 5 to 30 - Old SAN: 50 to 300
    - The Hit Ratio is over 99% - same as the old SAN
    Looking at Wiley Introscope graphs:
    - The "SAP Host: Average queue length" is about 30% to 40% lower then the old SAN.
    - the "SAP Host: Disk utilization in %" is about the same.
    Questions:
    1. Did we do anything wrong or miss anything with our move procedure?
         a. Do we have to do anything in SQL since we changed volumes even though we kept the drive letters the same?
    2. What other logs or performance counters should I be looking at?
    Thank you,
    Neil

    Our new SAN Vendor is Compellent.  They have been fantastic.  I would highly recommend checking them out.
    The reasons for the timeouts had nothing to do with the SAN...Well kind of anyway.
    I decided to check t-code SM20 to see what users were doing when these timeouts were happening.  What I found was the program R_BAPI_NETWORK_MAINTAIN was being called thousands of times in a matter of 10 to 15 minutes at random times through out the day.  It would take up about 50 to 80 percent of the amount of programs being executed during these times.
    So, I sent this information to our developers and they found out that R_BAPI_NETWORK_MAINTAIN was being called from another program that was looping thousands of times. The trigger to stop the loop wasn't happening fast enough.  They made a change and we haven't seen the timeouts since.
    I think that the performance increases allowed the loop to run faster which caused the slow downs and timeouts to happen more often.
    Thank you to everyone for their help!

  • SAP Data File size considerably reduced after Unicode Conversion

    Hello Experts
    I have just performed a CUUC (Upgrade along with unicode conversion) from R/3 4.7 to ECC 6.0 EHP5. The data size that i earlier had was close to 463 GB (MSSQL MDF, LDF Files), after the data export to be converted to unicode the size was 45 GB (10% of actual data size, i feel this is normal after heterogeneous system copy), but after the import again the DATA file size is only 247 GB, is this normal ? or have i lost some data ? For ex, I tried checking tables like MSEG and the number of entries have reduced from 15,678,790 to 15,290,545.
    Could you kindly let me know if there is a way to check from Basis perspective if i have not lost any data ? I have followed all the procedures as per SAP Standards.
    Waiting for your quick reply.

    Hi Nicholas
    Data is compressed during the new R3load procedure is understood, but why number of table entries have reduced is something which is still a question to me (in some cases increased as well) ? For example
                                 Source          Target
    STPO                  415,725          412,150
    STKO                 126,710          126,141
    PLAF                 74,671                   78,336
    MDKP                 193,487          192,747
    MDPB                 55,329                   63,557
    Any suggestions or ideas ?

      I have used function module "GUI_DOWNLOAD" OR "DOWNLAOD" to download the data from SAP table to XLS file. But now I need this XLS file to be get opned automatically after finishing the Download, so that user can make changes into XLS file and can save the changes into it. After saving I have to upload this modified Data into SAP table again.

  • Altering program files from SAP Data drive to C drive

    Dear Forum,
    I am trying to alter the 'program files' in SAP Data drive folder that was created during installation to free up some space. In this case the SAP Data drive is the 'E' drive and the 'program files' folder is altered to 'C' drive.
    Here are the steps:
    1.     stopped SAP, then all SQL services
    2.     regedit to look for registry entries pointing to the E:\ drive:
    3.     Copied over from E:\ to C:\ drive all non-duplicate folders contained in E:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DW
    4.     renamed the registry entries to reflect their new location.
    So, for example in the registry 'My Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Folders' the entry 'E:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DW\' is altered to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\DW\'. All entries are altered one by one.
    So far the first trial works. Is it secure to do it in this way. Will it be a problem when the SQL needs to be patched, for example?
    Please kindly advice.
    Regards,
    Agoes

    With DATA files it´s VERY different. They are pretty isolated seen from an operating system perspective, you can put them anywhere and just point the database to the right path.
    However, everything on "C:" must reside there, especially %SYSTEMROOT% and %PROGRAM FILES%. On Unix system you could copy them somwhere, create a soft link and you were done, on Windows, this is possible because depending on the installed software (SAPGUI, Backup software etc.) you will have LOTS of registry entries pointing to "c:program files", including the COM and ActiveX objects (e. g. a SAPGUI registers > 2000 ActiveX objects in the registry).
    Since almost no vendor has documentation about which piece of software is installed where and what is put where in the registry the only way of safely relocating something from C: (if C: is your system drive) is to reinstall the OS and do a homogeneous system copy.
    Welcome to the world of Windows

  • Access SAP Data Archival file from outside SAP

    Hello Everyone,
    I have a requirement to archive the SAP data, dump that outside SAP in some other system like ILM or BI and build a reporting tool on top of that data.
    So, basically customer want to shutdown the SAP and want to retain data for legal and audit pourpose.
    I was doing some RnD and done archiving of MM_EKKO using SARA. the file got generated with extention .ARCHIVE. I donwnloaded teh file but it is encoded file with all special character in it.
    My question is:
    1. How can I read the archieved SAP data from outside SAP system.
    2. Can we decode the .ARCHIVE file to get it in .DAT format?
    3. Or Is there any other way to access the SAP data outside SAP in a report format.
    Thanks,
    Chintan SOni.

    Hi Chintan,
    1. How can I read the archieved SAP data from outside SAP system.
    For this you could refer SAP Note   460620 - Migrating archive files
    2. Can we decode the .ARCHIVE file to get it in .DAT format?
    As per my knowledge,it's not possible to decode or move to .DAT format.
    3. Or Is there any other way to access the SAP data outside SAP in a report format.
    Refer my first response & the SAP note.
    Hope this will help you.
    Good luck !!

  • SAP Naming Conventions for DB Data Files

    Hi Everyone!
    We are about to install a SAP ECC 6.0 SR3 ABAP on Windows Server 2008 (R2) & SQL Server 2008 SP1 and we want to name the DB data files as follows:
    <sid>DB_Data_001.MDF/NDF
    Do you see any problem with this or think this could lead to a problem in the future?
    We were unable to find a SAP note or SAP recommendation about this, we only found SAP Note 27428 but itu2019s for Oracle.
    Thanks in advance!
    Best Regards,
    Nicolas

    Hi Nicolas,
    I thought about all corners where this could possibly lead to a problem (e.g. monitoring, DB13, ...) but couldn't think of a single report or transaction where this would cause problems.
    To the database itself the names of the files do not matter at all and in the SAP transactions the datafiles are only read to display them in monitoring transactions like DB02 or RZ20. These transaction do not expect a certain naming convention so I don't see anything that would count against using different filenames.

  • XML data file links java and sap

    Hi ,
    Please help me this
    How to connect xml file to java into sap
    please send me sample scenario.
    in java i call the this sap function module  'BAPI_MAT_BOM_EXISTENCE_CHECK'.
    1. Check BOM existence with BAPI_MAT_BOM_EXISTENCE_CHECK
    2. Exit BOM diff if BOM doesn’t exist
    3. Read BOM structure with CSAP_MAT_BOM_READ
    4. Compare SAP BOM items incl. subitems to XML BOM items and subitems

    currently I use following methods tu opload and to transfor the xml into a string.
    * Method to create XML from data file
      CALL METHOD instance->import_from_file
        EXPORTING
          filename = gf_filename
        RECEIVING
          retcode  = ch_retcode.
    * Convert into XML-Stream
      CALL METHOD instance->render_2_string
    *  EXPORTING
    *    pretty_print = 'X'
        IMPORTING
        retcode      = ch_retcode
          stream       = lf_string .
    *    size         = .
    When I use read dataset the output of the xml is into an internal table where I have many lines depending on the XML data file, this means if my xml has 10lines the internal table of read dataset has also 10 lines but I need a string to make the transformation of the xml.

  • How to transport the CO and DATA file to SAP system

    Hello Experts ,
                          I want to know the procedure to import a transport request into an isolated SAP system ( which is not in the transport route ) using the CO and DATA files .
    I know that user should have adminstrator role to do this but i dont know how to do this .
    Regards
    Vivek

    Simply copy the source cofile and datafile from the source system to the target system and then import.
    Data file is located at /usr/sap/trans/<sid>/data with format R<transport_number>.<sid> and cofile is located at /usr/sap/trans/<sid>/cofile with format K<transport_number>.<sid>
    Copy them to the same location on the target system and then go to STMS -> Extras -> Add -> insert the name of the transport in format <sid>K<transport_number>, this will add the transport to the import queue then just simply import the transport.

  • Download SAP data to Excel file in Presentation server

    Hi gurus,
    I need to download SAP data to excel file. for that im using SAP_CONVERT_TO_XLS_FORMAT   function module. I have to download with column header and also date should be in YYMMDD format. Im changing the format in ITAB but when populating to excel leading zero's were removed.(EX. 12102007 is converted to 071012 and it was populated as 71012). can someone explain how to use this function module or give someother solution for this....And if possible explain the parameters of the function module SAP_CONVERT_TO_XLS_FORMAT. Is there any function module for converting date as required format?
    Thanks,
    Amal

    Hi Amal...
    The Problem you are facing is because of Display properties of Microsoft Excel itself. I believe this can not be solver with in SAP. Instead I would suggest you to go for a .csv format. which can also be viewed in Excel.
    In any case if you get to find a different solution for this, I would appriciate if you can share it with me :).

    It is sure your file is corrupted or not present.
    Check in cofiles and data directory under /usr/sap/trans your transport request number.

  • SAP GoLive : File System Response Times and Online Redologs design

    Hello,
    A SAP Going Live Verification session has just been performed on our SAP Production environnement.
    SAP ECC6
    Oracle 10.2.0.2
    Solaris 10
    As usual, we received database configuration instructions, but I'm a little bit skeptical about two of them :
    1/
    We have been told that our file system read response times "do not meet the standard requirements"
    The following datafile has ben considered having a too high average read time per block.
    File name -Blocks read  -  Avg. read time (ms)  -Total read time per datafile (ms)
    /oracle/PMA/sapdata5/sr3700_10/sr3700.data10          67534                         23                               1553282
    I'm surprised that an average read time of 23ms is considered a high value. What are exactly those "standard requirements" ?
    2/
    We have been asked  to increase the size of the online redo logs which are already quite large (54Mb).
    Actually we have BW loading that generates "Chekpoint not comlete" message every night.
    I've read in sap note 79341 that :
    "The disadvantage of big redo log files is the lower checkpoint frequency and the longer time Oracle needs for an instance recovery."
    Frankly, I have problems undertanding this sentence.
    Frequent checkpoints means more redo log file switches, means more archive redo log files generated. right ?
    But how is it that frequent chekpoints should decrease the time necessary for recovery ?
    Thank you.
    Any useful help would be appreciated.

    Hello
    >> I'm surprised that an average read time of 23ms is considered a high value. What are exactly those "standard requirements" ?
    The recommended ("standard") values are published at the end of sapnote #322896.
    23 ms seems really a little bit high to me - for example we have round about 4 to 6 ms on our productive system (with SAN storage).
    >> Frequent checkpoints means more redo log file switches, means more archive redo log files generated. right?
    Correct.
    >> But how is it that frequent chekpoints should decrease the time necessary for recovery ?
    A checkpoint is occured on every logswitch (of the online redologfiles). On a checkpoint event the following 3 things are happening in an oracle database:
    Every dirty block in the buffer cache is written down to the datafiles
    The latest SCN is written (updated) into the datafile header
    The latest SCN is also written to the controlfiles
    If your redologfiles are larger ... checkpoints are not happening so often and in this case the dirty buffers are not written down to the datafiles (in the case of no free space in the buffer cache is needed). So if your instance crashes you need to apply more redologs to the datafiles to be in a consistent state (roll forward). If you have smaller redologfiles more log switches are occured and so the SCNs in the data file headers (and the corresponding data) are closer to the newest SCN -> ergo the recovery is faster.
    But this concept does not really fit the reality because of oracle implements some algorithm to reduce the workload for the DBWR in the case of a checkpoint.
    There are also several parameters (depends on the oracle version) which control that a required recovery time is kept. (for example FAST_START_MTTR_TARGET)
    Regards
    Stefan
