Sapinst error backup/restore phase create controlfile

Hello experts
I am doing a homogeneous system copy using database specific tools backup/restore.Oracle 10.2.0.5, HP-UX, ECC 6.0
Source = ZD1 and Target = ZD1 (Yes they are both same) Source was a fresh install with brand new Export data (SID = ZD1) and now we are replacing the database with a copy of our existing Dev system (also SID = ZD1)
Restored the backup over target using OFFLINE backup. Have not run any "recover database ...." or "alter database open resetlogs" yet because sapinst is suppose to do this.
My control script looks like this: filename = CONTROL.SQL
STARTUP NOMOUNT
CREATE CONTROLFILE REUSE SET DATABASE "ZD1" RESETLOGS ARCHIVELOG
    MAXLOGFILES 255
    MAXLOGMEMBERS 3
    MAXDATAFILES 254
    MAXINSTANCES 50
    MAXLOGHISTORY 23371
LOGFILE
  GROUP 1 (
    '/oracle/ZD1/origlogA/log_g11m1.dbf',
then all the data file paths (which I verified to be correct)
ends with:
'/oracle/ZD1/sapdata4/sr3_61/sr3.data61',
  '/oracle/ZD1/sapdata4/sr3_62/sr3.data62'
CHARACTER SET UTF8
Now here is the issue:
1) When I manually run the CONTROL.SQL and then just do a alter database open resetlogs everything is fine. Database mounts and opens fine. However when I run the sapinst it tries to run the CONTROL.SQL again and messes up everything. I would like to skip this phase in sapinst and change ERROR to OK in keydb.xml file. Question is when should I do this ? Before starting sapinst so that it skips this or during the phase it stops and asks for backup/restore ?
2) Instead creating files manually I also let sapinst do this. But it throws an error during control file creation. When I used the above CONTROL.SQL it says must use resetlogs to open database. Then I restored all over again and added the line alter database open resetlogs at the end of CONTROL.SQL
'/oracle/ZD1/sapdata4/sr3_61/sr3.data61',
  '/oracle/ZD1/sapdata4/sr3_62/sr3.data62'
CHARACTER SET UTF8
ALTER DATABASE OPEN RESTLOGS;
And then ran sapinst again from scratch and now it throws error file 1 needs media recovery.
This is weird and I don't know why sapinst acting smart here and wont let me do it and when it does it by himself it messes up.
Is my CONTROL.SQL scripts correct ? Whats the best approach here.
Thank you

Hello Nicholas
Thank you. I have replaced the CONTROL>SQL in the installation directory itself. Its in /tmp/sapinst_instdir/ERP/LM/COPY/ORA/SYSTEM/CENTRAL/AS And yes it IS picking up the control.sql that I provided and not the default.
DatabaseSAP
Thank you. I have never commented  anything in keydb.xml before. But sounds like a good idea because if I can restore it myself I really want to skip this step. Should I just do it before start of sapinst  and what exact lines to comment ? Which keydb should I edit ? I found several but looks like ./ERP/LM/COPY/ORA/SYSTEM/CENTRAL/AS/keydb.xml is the right one.
root@zepsapa1 # find . -name keydb.xml
./NW04S/LM/AS-JAVA/ADDIN/ORA/CENTRAL/DB/keydb.xml

./ERP/SYSTEM/ORA/CENTRAL/AS/log_18_Dec_2011_08_05_17/keydb.xml
Also what exactly am I commenting here ? I see step RunControlScript is the one causing problems and I dont want it to create any control files. Please advise what exactly I need to comment and when. And what about changing the ERROR to OK ?

  • SAPinst error during phase Create DB statistics (sapcheck)

    Hello all,
I am currently installing an SAP ERP 6.0 EhP4/NW7.01 Java system when I enncountered this error during the phase Create Database Statistics.
    Error says
    BR0801I BRCONNECT 7.00 (40)
    BR0805I Start of BRCONNECT processing: cefukrjh.sta 2011-05-03 12.29.57

    BR0804I BRCONNECT terminated with errors
I've checked this directory and I did not find the folder sapcheck. that is because my sapcheck is located in a different drive (E:). why is sapinst looking at the wrong directory and how can i point sapinst to use drive E instead?
i was thinking maybe i could copy the folder sapcheck from drive E to drive d and continue with the installion. what will be its impact if i do this?
by the way, my OS is windows 2003.
    please advise.
    thank you very much!
    regards,
    cha cha

BR0252E Function fopen() failed for 'D:\oracle\EA1\sapcheck\cefukrjh.sta' at location main-11
BR0253E errno 2: No such file or directory
BR0121E Processing of log file D:\oracle\EA1\sapcheck\cefukrjh.sta failed
It seems that while defining the Path of SAP and Oracle there is something wrong that's the reason it is looking somewhere else. If you will copy from E Drive installation will continue but it will be keep searching on D drive everytime. As you are on initial stage to install a new System i would suggest to stop the installation Master and start it from Scratch and define the FIle System Directly once again as you want.

    Thanks in advance,

    Hello;
I read your post and here's the thoughts that came to mind : ( my largest concern is you might restore something that damages your current system )
    1. So you want to restore the whole DB back to 12/06/2012 to get some tablespaces from then right?
    2. Are you restoring to a different system?
    3. How did you start the database ( NOMOUNT, MOUNT )
    4. If you are restoring the whole DB back to 12/06/2012 how did you restore the control file?
    5. Your command shows :
    restore tablespace SYSTEM,UNDO_GEN01,UNDO_GEN02,TAB_80K_GENCON,TAB_25M_GENCON;
COMMENT : Generally I use recover tablespace for point in time recovery and use an auxilary destination.
Meaning I don't use restore at all, in fact using restore may cause an issue.
SUMMARY : I don't see how this will work as is.
It seems you want data from five tablespaces from about six months ago including the SYSTEM tablespace.
This is an Incomplete Recovery. I believe I would rethink this completely.
Give the time that has past I would consider restoring the whole database to a different server where cannot damage anything.
Once this is done I would decide how to get the data I need.
Or I would check for a daily export file and recover the tablespace data that way.
So you have some good details on your question but it seems the plan is either missing something or you need to add a few more details.
    Example
I'm recovering old tablespaces into a test system.
Here's how I'm not damaging my current production system.
I don't have an export from that date.
So take a step back and either rethink or give a few more details on how this is safe.
    Best Regards
    mseberg

  • System copy using oracle backup/restore - sapinst does not restart after re

I am performing a system copy of a BW3.5 system, using the system copy procedures and Oracle backup/restore. on the target node, I have installed the CI. I have run sapinst to install the database up to the point when it tells me to install the Oracle Server software, then restore the backup, and choose 'OK' in the dialog box. As I did not want to leave this dialog open, I chose 'cancel'. I have now installed Oracle, and restored the database, but when I try restarting sapinst I get the following error, and sapinst quits:

    Hi Angie,
You should always mention OS details while drafting message.
First, CHeck you must selected same SID as earlier while installation or Oracle and DB.
Secondly, you can skip this phase in SAPInst, bit technical for you.
    Alternatively,
    Recommendations
    - Set parameters as per SAP Note 356370
    - Change the swap mode from 'intermediate' to 'deferred' as described in
      SAP Note 97179.
    - Add /usr/sbin to the path of the user <sapsid>adm in the file
.cshrc, .login, .profile in the user's home directory. Enter the
following command(s) at the end of .cshrc, .login, .profile:
      a) If using a csh, enter:
           set path=(/usr/sbin $path)
      b) If using a sh, enter:

  • RMAN error when restoring controlfile from tape

    Hi,
We have a Production database with instance name PROD.
We use Symantec Netbackup software to backup this database to tape library.
We want to test some recovery scenarios on a test server. So we want to restore the production backups from Tape to this test server.
    We did the following:
Cloned the ORACLE Home to the Test Server.
Changed the db_name parameter to PROD and also set ORACLE_SID to PROD.
then we connected to RMAN and ran the following command to restore the control files:
    RMAN> run {
    set dbid 4155532403
    set controlfile autobackup format for device type 'sbt_type' to '%F';
    set until time "to_date('16/12/2012:10:13:37','dd/mm/yyyy:hh24:mi:ss')";
    allocate channel t1 device type 'sbt_tape';
    SEND 'NB_ORA_SERV=riysvbkp-001,NB_ORA_CLIENT=lh-erp';
    restore controlfile to '/testerp/dbexec/tmp/cf1.ctl' from autobackup;
    executing command: SET DBID

  • ECC5 installation error during phase "Create Database"

We are installing ECC5 on IA64 using Oracle 9207.
At phase 'Create database' the sapinst aborts reporting errors executing the oradim -NEW SID command.
The oradim.log contains one row only : "DIM-00019: error creating service".
The OracleServiceSID is created, but it does not start.
If we try to run manually the command "Oracle.exe SID", so the same command that is started by the OracleServiceSID service a popup appear saying:
"The entry point kdr9ir2_pop could not be located in the dynamic link library oracle  oracommon9.dll"
Any idea ? Are there problems with the oracle 920 sw installation or what ?
    regards

    Hi,
    Sounds like oracle problem.
    - Please post the last few error statement from sapinst_dev.log.
    - Check if the the following key is in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\system\currentcontrolset\services\OracleService
    - check oracle  alert<SID>.log, see if there is any significant errors.
    - see note #602843
    - if "DIM-00019: error creating service", does it mean that an Oracle service with the same SID already exist? if so, use command "sc delete [service name]" to delete the service and then restart the installation.
    Hope this helps.
    cheers,
    Vincent

  • File System error while restoring a backup from analysis server to another

    Hi
I have restored an analysis database backup to from server 1  (sql server 2008) to server 2(sql 2008) and its working fine
and now am trying to restore another database from analysis server server 3 (sql 2005) to  server 2 (sql 2008 )but its giving error that
File System error occured while opening the file G:\ProgramFiles\MSAS10.MSSQLSERVER\OLAP\Backup\Workordermodule.0.db\WomDW1.7.00 ..etc

    Hi Maverick,
According to your description, you are experiencing the error when restoring the SSAS 2005 database on SSAS 2008 server, right?
In your scenario, how do you backup your SSAS 2005 database? Please ensure that you backup and restore steps are correct. Here is a blog which describe how to migrate a cube in SQL Server Analysis Services 2005 to SQL Server Analysis Services 2008 step by
step, please refer to the link below.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/mdegre/archive/2010/03/31/migrating-a-cube-in-sql-server-analysis-services-2005-to-sql-server-analysis-services-2008.aspx
Besides, you can import SQL 2005 AS database in SQL 2008 BIDS Project. Then fix AMO warnings and deploy that database on SQL 2008 Server.

Is your backup got completed succesfully?

  • Windows Server 2012 Windows Backup failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).

The Volume Shadow Copy service initially was running under the context of System, so we thought that ‘System’ doesn’t have permissions to access network shares.
When the Volume Shadow Copy service was running under the context of System, this was the error logged:
“failed with following error code '0x8078014B' (There was a failure in creating a directory on the backup storage location.).”
Which is likely due to not having permissions to write to the network location.
This is a scheduled backup trying to write to a network location, so we changes the service to run under the context of an account that does have permissions to write to the network share.
Then the error changed to this:
“failed with following error code '0x8078006B' (Windows Backup failed to create the shared protection point on the source volumes.).”

We are attempting to back the files up to a Remote Shared File (and there is 100+ GB free space out there).
If we try another network location, we receive the exact same error.
This is Windows Server 2012, not running Hyper-V and is a physical server not a VM.
    Thank you for the link.

  • When to use REUSE/SET, NO-ARCHIVELOGS in create controlfile in HOT BACKUP?

I am a trainee Oracle DBA and have the following queries. Kindly reply with detailed explanation as I want to get my concepts cleared!
Q1>> While doing a user managed hot backup, when we are creating a control file(CREATE CONTROLFILE) from trace for recovery when do we use the create control file with the following options:
    *1. REUSE / SET*
    *2. ARCHIVELOGS / NOARCHIVELOGS*
Q2>> In what scenarios do we re-create the control file while recovering datafiles from a hot backup??
    Thanks a tonne!
    Regards,
    Bhavi

1.1 It is not "REUSE/SET". These are two very different clauses.
REUSE is when you want the CREATE to overwrite the existing controlfile(s). If the controlfile(s) {as named in the instance parameter file, initSID.ora or spfileSID.ora} is/are already present, the CREATE fails unless REUSE is specified.
SET is when you want to change the database name. Oracle then creates the controlfile(s) with the specified database name and updates the headers of all the datafiles. If you run a CREATE with a database name that is different from that in the datafile headers, the CREATE fails unless you include a SET to specify that the name must be changed. Note that this also means that the name in the instance parameter file must already have been updated.
1.2 ARCHIVELOG/NOARCHIVELOG is to set the database state. The same is achieved by issuing an "ALTER DATABASE ARCHIVELOG/NOARCHIVELOG" when the database is MOUNTed but not OPEN.
    2. You'd run the CREATE CONTROLFILE if you do not have a binary backup of the controlfile.
Optionally, you can also use CREATE CONTROLFILE to rename all the datafiles by specifying the new locations of the datafiles -- the datafiles must already be present in the new locations, else the CREATE fails if it doesn't find a datafile that is included in the list of datafiles included in the CREATE statement.
RMAN is the correct way to run Backups. User Managed Backup scripts are used in cases like Storage-based Snapshots / SnapClones / BCV.
Hemant K ChitaleThanks that was really helpful..One last question when to use the resetlogs/noresetlogs clause in the create controlfile statement. I have noticed that at times it accepts resetlog while at times it accepts noresetlogs

  • Error in creating controlfile

Is the information to create the controlfile held in a context file and if so is it possible to edit the file and remove the offending line?

it is true the actual file does not exist and is not essential for the running of the database.
Is the information to create the controlfile held in a context file and if so is it possible to edit the file and remove the offending line?It is possible (as mentioned above) but this may not guarantee that the script would work for the other database files which may not exist.

The best approach to fix this issue is by running preclone again on the source nodes, copy the files and run postclone then.
