Satellite A205-S4777 - XP does not recognize HDD

Hi!
I recently have buyed a new Toshiba A205-S4777 satellite with Windows Vista home premium installed
and i noticed too many errors in Windows Vista and the pc is very slow so i decided to downgrade to XP
I want to install directly Windows XP but the installer does not recognise the hard drive or more exactly the controllers!
I nLited the Sata drivers in the Windows Xp Sp2 i have bought in the microsoft.com site!
Everything worked fine.
The installer recognised the Hard Drive and the installer finallased fine!
But here' s the problem when windows loads and try to switch on it gaves a kind of blue screen unreadable one!
And restarts and if you let it it does all the day the same!
I am afraid i do not nLited the correct drivers.
Is there anybody that heve downgraded this model ?
Thanx

Hi
Possibly you used not right SATA driver ?:| Who knows
The point is that there are two different Intel Matrix Storage Manger versions which support different chipsets.
I dont know what chipset your notebook supports but you should check this and should check also the Intel Storage Manger description and should check what chipsets are supported.
Additionally you should take a look here into this Toshiba doc:
[How to integrate a SATA AHCI driver in a Windows XP Setup CD|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB85017Z0000R01.htm]

  • Satellite C55T: Win 7 does not recognize LAN and WLan card

    I have a problem.
Ive downgraded my Toshiba Satellite C55T-A5222 to Windows 7 64-bit and he didn't install many drivers.
The windows didn't recognize my network connection and he didn't install my wireless driver.
Maybe I need a chipset driver but I didn't find any drivers for windows 7.
    Please help me!

If Windows 7 did not recognize the LAN and WLan card, you did not install proper drivers.
Satellite C55T-A5222 is US notebook model.
The drivers can be downloaded from this Toshiba US support page: [Satellite C55T-A5222|http://support.toshiba.com/support/modelHome?freeText=1200005866]
Here choose Drivers /& Updates and the filter by Windows 7 64bit (on the left)
Now you should get all Win 7 64bit drivers for the Satellite C55T-A5222

  • Satellite Pro A300-1DZ does not find HDD after BIOS update

    Hi everyone,
I have recently purchased a secondhand Satellite Pro A300 1DZ.
Put a fresh copy of Windows xp home on it.
I then went on to install all the drivers needed from Toshiba's own site and at the end of this I thought it may be a good idea to update the bios????
OH DEAR what a big mistake.
Now the netbook will NOT start windows.
So I thought thats ok I will just start from the begginning and reinstall windows again, but it is telling me it cannot find a hard disk on my netbook?
    aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I am going crazy,
Could someone please tell me how to fix this? Thank you x

    Hi
I think the option SATA mode has been set to AHCI and therefore the Windows XP cannot find the HDD.
This is because of the SATA controller.
You can set the SATA mode from AHCI mode to compatible mode and this will allows you to install the Win XP on the notebook without the usage of SATA drivers.
So, youve got two options if you want to install Win XP:
AHCI mode -> but you have to include SATA drivers
Compatible mode -> Win XP installation possible without the SATA drivers

  • Vista PC does not recognize HDD?

    Hello,
Windows Vista don't find the external HDD from Toshiba.
I find it with Paragon "Backup & Recovery" and in control panel - device manager - drives
but the HDD isn't visible in Desktop - Computer.
    What can I do?
    Thank You fpr answer!
    Hilli

I had an similar issue with my USB flash memory stick.
The USB flash memory stick was visible on device manager but I did not appear in MY Computer.
I could solve this using following workaround:
    1) start the console (back DOS box) using the command CMD (type in RUN or Search window)
    2) Now type: diskpart
    3) Now type: automount enable
Then exit the windows and reboot the notebook.
After new reboot try to connect the HDD once again and check if the external USB HDD would appear in My Computer

  • Satellite P50-A-12Z does not recognize 500GB SSD

    Hi,
I have installed a new ssd evo 840 500gb and the bios dosen't recognized it.
The state in bios of the hdd/ssd is not present.
When I start with a disc of Windows 8 installer, setup recongnizes the ssd and I can create partitions, but I can't install it.
    The error is:
Windows cannot be installed to this disk.
This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk.
I have the last bios version (1.50) for this model.
    Someone can help me?
    Thanks.

    > In BIOS, the state from hdd/ssd is "not present" and at boot menu, hdd option is first but empty, no description.
The problem can be related either to BIOS or to the SSD drive.
You have no many options: the BIOS seems to be already up to date. So BIOS update isnt a option in this case What you could do is to set the BIOS to default settings. You could also try to use the UEFI mode but thats all what you can do at the BIOS level.
Additionally you can try to update the SSD drives firmware.
Ive got an SSD drive too and I could update the firmware. Therefore this might be another option for you
But in case this would not work, I think you will need to test another SSD drive, probably from another manufacturer.

  • Satellite M40: Sonic RecordNow does not recognize Mat****a CD/DVD drive

    Hello,
I have a satellite M40. The sonic recordnow (version 7.31) software cannot found cd/dvd recorder.
I check in the support from toshiba and found a new update for Mat****a dvdram UJ 841S. So I downloaded it. But when I run it, an error message appears: "the target drive is not connected". How can I fix it ?
The thng is my cd/dvd drive is working ok: i can read videos and music cd. I can burn dvd with dvdx soft. Bu I want to fix sonic.
    Thank uou for your help.
    nat

    Hi
The firmware update will NOT fix the sonic issue!!!
The firmware has nothing to do with this problem the firmware contains details and further informations about supported and compatible CDs/DVDs.
I presume some registry keys or sonic files are corrupt and therefore the drive cannot be recognized correctly by Sonic software.
I would recommend reinstalling the Sonic software!!!
But why you dont use the Nero burning program? In my opinion its the best burning software. I use it too and Im very happy!!!
    You should try it

  • Dv4-2045dx Win 7 does not recognize hdd

I have a dv4-2045dx with Win 7 and a 320GB hdd. I was reading a web page when my screen went blank, tried to re-boot but got Windows Error Recovery then Windows Boot manger screen with "The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". I moved and can't find my recovery disks, but want to avoid paying HP for more. When I slave the hdd to another Win 7 machine, Win explorer doesn't show it, and the disk management utility shows it but with an "X" and says "unreadable". When I slave it in a Linux machine, in the disk utility, I see a 1 MB partition listed as “unknown”, a 209 MB NTFS partition listed a s “SYSTEM” and flagged as “Bootable”, then my 80 GB NTFS Win 7 partition, and 240 GB NTFS file partition (after I first got it, I shrank the OS partition, and created the additional partition). Any help will be appreciated, Thanks!

I forgot to mention, I can see and access the data on all three NTFS partitions under Linux. Thanks!

  • T-61 Visat Prof. 32bit does not recognize internal 1TB SATA HDD

    Hi,
I just bought 1TB WD internal SATA 2.5" hard drive and connected to USB of my laptop via SATA external adaptor but my laptop does not recognize this driver.
I have Windows Vista 32bit OS.
Any advise how I can fix this? My intent is to transfer all data from internal HDD to the new HDD and then replace old HDD with new one and upgrade to Windows 7.
    THanks,
    Ash

There are a few problems regarding the way you are trying to do this. First is that your new drive won't be recognized by windows until it's partitioned and formatted. Also, since you're upgrading the OS, you'd be better advised to install the new drive in your laptop and install the operating system, windows will setup the new drive for you then you can connect the old one and transfer any of it's data onto the new drive. If you do it this way it should be effortless, but if you attempt the way you described you could run into problems being that you have an advanced format drive replacing traditional sata drive. Also if you allow windows to initiate and format the drive you know it will be done properly for the type of drive you have.
Another suggestion would be to have windows setup the drive with at least two primary partitions. With a drive that large it's nice to have more than one and if you ever find the operating system badly corrupted you could wipe that partition and reinstall without losing any of the data in other partition/s. You can also install multiple operating systems. I can be very handy to have a backup operating system in case something goes wrong so you can be up and running immediately upon rebooting. There is nothing more frustrating than having a non-functioning computer when you badly need to get some work done and this can allow you to continue working and worry about fixing whatever went wrong at a time of your choosing.

  • Satellite A100 does not recognize new CD/DVD drive

I purchased a new CD/DVD drive for my four year old Toshiba Satellite A-100 as the old one went crazy and did not want to work.
Unfortunately I bought a Toshiba Portege A100 DVD/ CD-RW Combo Drive which is not exactly what I had before hopping that it will work anyway.
Unfortunately I got surprised because it does not recognize the CD/DVD drive at all :/..
It seems to work and the light is flashing so I believe that it is not broken.
I just plugged it in as that's the way I was told to do it.
Do I have to download drivers to make it run?
Will it work on my laptop or is it a "newer" CD drive which will not cooperate with my laptop?
I would appreciate any help. Thx

    Hi
I think I agree with Jimi. For me it sounds like that your CD/DVD drive isnt compatible with the notebook. Note: Not all drives are compatible to all notebooks.
Normally the best option would be if you check the user manual before you buy a CD/DVD drive. On the first pages you can find a list of compatibles drives they were pretested from Toshiba in this notebook. So these drives should definitively work.
Alternative you can contact the ASP as Jimi said. They also sell compatible drives.
And by the way, here you can search for the nearest ASP:

  • Re: Satellite A205-S5825 - DV Camcorder not recognized by firewire

I have a Satellite A205-S5825 and I cannot get it to recognize my Canon DV camcorder connected by a firewire cable.
The same camera works perfectly with my desktop PC. My wife also has a Satellite, an A215 and this does not recognize the camcorder either. All 3 computers are running XP service pack 3.
Can anyone throw any light on this? I would really like to use my laptop for video editing as my desktop is at another location.
    Thanks in advance
    600

It is really strange. I would like to know if this will happen with factory settings.
I have camcorder too and I have tested it now with Vista preinstalled P200 and WXP preinstalled Satellite Pro P300.
On both notebooks the cam is recognized properly and I was able to record short movie.
I really don't understand what is wrong there but try to remove firewire port from device manager and restart your notebook.
The firewire port will be recognized and installed automatically. After doing this connect your cam and test it again.

  • MSI x48c platinum does not recognize 2 PCIe boards

    Hello,
I had the same recycling boot problem as others have noted.
It occured with the Antec Phantom 500 power supply and the Antec Signature 850.
Swtiched to a Cool Master Pro 650 and no more recyling boots.
However, I have 2 PCIe cards that this system board does not recognize in the POST (quick boot disabled) and no new hardware is found under win XP.
    Boards are:
Black Magic Design Intensity (HDMI board)
    http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/techspecs/
United Audio UAD-2 Quad (audio DSP)
    http://www.uaudio.com/products/uad/uad2neve128/index.html
Does not matter if they are together, alone or which PCIe slot.
These bpards are needed for my work.
anybody else have baords that the x48c can't see?
These same boards are fine with other motherboards.

i just remember     i had once similar problem with a sata driver. the issue is this you can not adjust everything in bios in one go and expect mobo to know about it. what i mean is this for instance you disable the raid then you save it and exit and then when it reboot you go back to bios and reset another another parameter,  you save and exit and on reboot you go back to bios and reset another parameter. i got round the prob that way and it worked and mobo saw the sata HDD. give this a shoot good luck and finally make sure raid is disabled
this is what i would do
1- make sure the jumper setting on your IDE Hdd is correct (Y may have to try this twice as there are two different setting on jumper setting for Master)
    2- connect the sata HDD
    3-click on power
4-go to bios and disable raid save exit
5-on reboot go back to bios
6--on first option click on it then you should see all devices that can be seen by mobo if you do not see sata HDD you have to click on enable for the auto to see the device once it sees the device save and exit. REMEMBER THE JUMPER SETTING  ON IDE HDD CAN CAUSE PROB . SO try the other jumper setting for master, repeat this procedure once more hopefully you get it right

  • Does not recognize bootable usb

My HP laptop does not recognize some bootable usb devices in the boot menu.
I have a HP tower and the laptop in my office and the tower will recognize and boot the a USB device that the laptop will not recognize in the boot menu.
    Laptop: HP Pavilion dm1z-4100, BIOS HP vF.19 2/4/2013, Windows 7 Pro 64bit
    Tower: HP HPE-480t, BIOS American Megatrends v6.10 9/16/2010, Windows 7 Pro 64bit
Example of non recognized device in laptop (OK in tower): USB HDD WD60 OUE-22 HCTO
The external HDD reacts the same as some memory sticks. All the boot devices appear to be syslinux bootable
I have never found a non recognized bootable device in the tower PC boot menu, but several in the laptop PC.
No problem with laptop using external CD/DVD drive
The problem appears to be in the BIOS, because the boot menu occurs prior to the operating system.
Latest BIOS listed in the updates is F.19 (same as installed)
    Any comments?

    Hi lrclost,

  • Oracle vm 3.1.x : does not recognize local storage

    Hi There
My VM manager does not recognize the local storage however I have a second HDD on my VM server:
    [root@myserver ~]# fdisk -l
    Disk /dev/sda: 320.0 GB, 320072933376 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 38913 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    /dev/sda1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
    /dev/sda2 14 405 3148740 83 Linux
    /dev/sda3 406 536 1052257+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
    Disk /dev/sdb: 160.0 GB, 160041885696 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 19457 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
    Also the Multipath is running:
    [root@myserver ~]# service multipathd status
    multipathd (pid 2735) is running...
    [root@myserver ~]#
The version of OVM is 3.1.1.305
I have used the default partition layout.
I was able to create a server pool without the cluster option but there is no storage bind to it since I could not utilize the local storage and my NFS (which is on a IOMEGA DATA CENTRE external HDD) for some reasons gets timed out while I am adding the server pool with NFS ( NFS was added to the storage no problem but once I try to add a pool on this NFS it gets timesd out)
I am new to OVM and also Linux so please go easy on me :) , Your help is much appriciated.

Very likely "multipath -ll" doesn't show up any path to sdb from the device mapper (neither it is in /dev/mapper)
    - Make sure you've rescanned disks from OVM Manager (Select the ovm server disks page) ;
    - try to perform "multipath -d" to see if it takes the path from sdb into account. If it is, run "multipath" no option
    - try to reboot the OVM server since it's not too late ;-)
Other than that I'm afraid you'll have to figure out why device mapper doesn't map your disk; the ovm server should have "script" install on it. Do the following :
    cd /root
    script figureoutwhyitsucks.log
    multipathd -k
    show config
    <ctrl>+D
    exit
That file would be helpful to figure out.

I have Photoshop CS3 which I have used successfully for a number of years.  I now shoot pics with a Nikon DSLR D7100. When I try to open NEF files the following flag appears: "Could not complete your request because PS does not recognize this file".  What do I need to do to open my NEF files??  Thanks.

Thanks for the quick reply, CP
FYI, the file is a photographic panorama based on several .CR2 photos taken in July, 2012 and processed in CS5's camera RAW/Photoshop.  Beyond the metadata, here are no fonts or text in the file.
    1.  I changed Maximize ...File Capability from "Never" to "Always" and the flattened file saved and loaded OK, though I can't figure why given Adobe's description of this option. "If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file...".  The file saved in this manner is ~8% larger and is not my preference as a routine since I've TB's of photo files.  By the way, out of thousands of .psd/.psb files, the one being discussed is the first to give me the error.
    2.  I've tried saving/reloading the file on another computer with Win XP Sp3/CS5...again with Maximize Capability OFF.  Same problem.  Turn ON Maximize Capability and it works.  As with the Win 8 machine, Bridge could neither create a thumbnail or read Metadata.
    3.  I've purged the Bridge Cache, made sure there were no old PS page files, reset PS preferences, and disabled my 2 plugins with no change in the problem.  Windows and Adobe progs are all updated.  Saving to a different HDD has no effect.
The problem occurs on 2 computers (Win XP/Win 8), two versioins of Photoshop (CS5/CS6), and "Maximize" On/Off togles the problem.  My guess it is a bug in PSD processing routines.
If I can't find a fix, will keep with Maximize ON and deal with the larger files that result...the cost of insurance, I suppose.
    Thanks again

  • ThinkVantage does not recognize online backup

I am using Lenovo onlinebackup. ThinkVantage carries a red X in the tray and tells me I haven't been backed up for 85 days even thought it is backed up 5 times a day. Apparently it does not recognize this form of backup. How to get rid of that X?
P.S. The spell checker here does not recognioze the word Lenovo.

    Hi,
in general I don't test this tool, as the way on how it is reading the system configuration is from half part unknown to me.
It might sound strange, but I would just ignore it, or deactivate this check.
The problem is, that sometimes it cannot recognize, if you place the backup on a USB HDD and sometimes not.
